In a free, moderate, democratic country people do "Evolve" in their thinking and religious (And secular) parties have "Opportunity" to evolve as well. As long they stay away from violence, we should embrace all people. If any of them can gain trust of mainstream population, they should be offered a chance to rule.
The beauty of democracy is people have reasonably fair chances to judge politicians based on their performances and judge them accordingly. This "Safe guard" will guard the safety of any community.

জামায়াতের সূত্রগুলো বলছে, আন্তর্জাতিক ট্রাইব্যুনালে দলের নায়েবে আমির দেলাওয়ার হোসাইন সাঈদীর মামলার যুক্তিতর্ক শুরু হয়েছে। ডিসেম্বরের মধ্যে এই মামলাসহ আরও অন্তত দুই নেতার মামলার রায় হওয়ার সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে। এ অবস্থায় বিচারের বিষয়ে সর্বোচ্চ প্রতিক্রিয়া দেখানোর সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে জামায়াত। তবে দলটি আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে বলছে, সারা দেশে বিক্ষোভ-সমাবেশ তাদের চলমান কর্মসূচিরই অংশ। পুলিশ শান্তিপূর্ণ কর্মসূচিতে বাধা দিচ্ছে। তাতে সংঘর্ষের ঘটনা ঘটছে।
গত বছরের ১৯ সেপ্টেম্বর রাজধানীর কাকরাইলে জামায়াত-শিবিরের কর্মীরা আকস্মিক পুলিশের ওপর চড়াও হন। এর আগে থেকে অবশ্য যেকোনো কর্মসূচি পালনে পুলিশের বাধার মুখে পড়ছিলেন তাঁরা। কাকরাইলের সহিংস ঘটনার পর বেশ কিছুদিন কার্যত চুপ ছিল জামায়াত-শিবির। কিন্তু গত সোমবার ঢাকাসহ ১২টি জেলায় একযোগে রাস্তায় নেমে শক্তি প্রদর্শন করে জামায়াত। গতকালও সেই ধারা অব্যাহত রেখেছে দলটি।
গত সোমবার সাঈদীর পক্ষের এক সাক্ষীকে আদালত এলাকা থেকে আইনশৃঙ্খলা রক্ষাকারী বাহিনী তুলে নিয়ে যায় বলে অভিযোগ তুলে ট্রাইব্যুনাল-১ বর্জন করেন আসামির আইনজীবীরা। এরপর বিকেলে রাস্তায় জামায়াতের কর্মীদের শক্তি প্রদর্শনকে তাই এর সঙ্গেই মিলিয়ে দেখা হচ্ছে। জামায়াতের আমির মতিউর রহমান নিজামী, সাবেক আমির গোলাম আযম, নায়েবে আমির দেলাওয়ার হোসাইন সাঈদী, সেক্রেটারী জেনারেল আলী আহসান মোহাম্মাদ মুজাহিদসহ দলের শীর্ষস্থানীয় নয়জন নেতা যুদ্ধাপরাধের মামলায় কারাগারে আটক আছেন।
দলটির সঙ্গে সংশ্লিষ্ট সূত্র জানায়, ট্রাইব্যুনালকে লক্ষ্য করে চূড়ান্তভাবে মাঠে নামতে বড়সড় প্রস্তুতি নিয়ে এগোচ্ছে জামায়াত ও ছাত্রশিবির। তবে তারা বলছে, আইনশৃঙ্খলা রক্ষাকারী বাহিনী ও সরকার-সমর্থকেরা তাদের কর্মসূচিতে প্রকাশ্যে অথবা চোরাগোপ্তা হামলা চালাতে পারে—এটা মাথায় রেখে পাল্টা হামলার প্রস্তুতি নিয়েই কর্মীদের রাজপথে নামানো হচ্ছে।
সূত্র জানায়, 'আন্দোলনের লক্ষ্যে' জামায়াত-শিবিরের উল্লেখযোগ্যসংখ্যক কর্মী বাছাই করা এবং সাংগঠনিক নিয়মে তাঁদের প্রশিক্ষণ শুরু করা হয়েছে। গত মে মাস থেকে শুরু করা এই প্রশিক্ষণ কর্মসূচিতে কর্মীদের ছোট ছোট দলে ভাগ করে মানসিকভাবে উদ্বুদ্ধ করা হয়। রাস্তায় নামলে পুলিশের নির্যাতনসহ সম্ভাব্য পরিস্থিতি সম্পর্কে তাঁদের ধারণা দেওয়া হয়। কর্মীদের দীর্ঘ মেয়াদে কারাগারে থাকার মানসিক প্রস্তুতিও নিয়ে রাখতে বলা হয়েছে। 'অর্থ ও জীবন উৎসর্গ' করার মানসিকতা নিয়ে রাজপথে নামার আহ্বান জানিয়ে নেতা-কর্মীদের কাছে একাধিক পুস্তিকাও বিতরণ করা হয়।
আলাপকালে দলের শীর্ষপর্যায়ের একাধিক নেতা জানান, ট্রাইব্যুনালের রায়ে নেতাদের বড় ধরনের শাস্তি দেওয়া হলে তাঁরাও বড় ধরনের কর্মসূচিতে যাবেন। তবে ডিসেম্বরের আগে 'বড় ধরনের সংঘাতে' জড়ানোর ইচ্ছা নেই বলে জানান এই নেতারা।
জামায়াত মনে করছে, আইনি প্রক্রিয়ায় আটক নেতাদের মুক্ত হওয়ার সম্ভাবনা নেই। মাঠে কর্মসূচি দিলে লাঠিপেটা ও কাঁদানে গ্যাসের শেল মেরে তা-ও পণ্ড করে দেয় পুলিশ। এ অবস্থায় বিষয়টি রাজপথে নিয়ে যাওয়া ছাড়া তাদের বিকল্প নেই। গত দুই দিনে বেপরোয়া সহিংসতা, ভাঙচুর, পুলিশের ওপর চড়াও হওয়া বা গাড়ি পোড়ানোর পেছনে এই ভাবনাই কাজ করছে। তবে সামনে আরও বড় ধরনের সহিংসতা হতে পারে বলে পুলিশ ও গোয়েন্দা সংস্থাগুলোর পক্ষ থেকে আশঙ্কা করা হচ্ছে।
অবশ্য জামায়াতের কেন্দ্রীয় কর্মপরিষদের সদস্য আবদুল হালিম বলেন, 'আমরা কোনো সহিংসতায় যাইনি। শান্তিপূর্ণ কর্মসূচি ঘোষণা করে আমরা প্রশাসনের সহযোগিতা চেয়েছি। কিন্তু পুলিশ লাঠিচার্জ করে এবং টিয়ার গ্যাসের শেল ও রাবার বুলেট মেরে সংঘাতের সৃষ্টি করে। এর দায় পুলিশের।'
প্রায় এক বছরের মাথায় জামায়াতের কেন্দ্রীয় কমিটির পক্ষ থেকে গত রোববার জাতীয় প্রেসক্লাবে সংবাদ সম্মেলন করে জানানো হয়, ৫ নভেম্বর সব মহানগর, জেলা ও উপজেলায় বিক্ষোভ সমাবেশ এবং ৬ থেকে ১৩ নভেম্বর পর্যন্ত দেশব্যাপী গণসংযোগ করা হবে। কর্মসূচি অনুযায়ী, গতকাল গণসংযোগের কথা থাকলেও ঢাকাসহ দেশের বিভিন্ন স্থানে জামায়াত-শিবির বিক্ষোভ মিছিল বের করে সহিংসতায় জড়িয়ে পড়ে।
এ ধরনের কর্মসূচি কত দিন চলবে, জানতে চাইলে গতকাল ঢাকা মহানগর জামায়াতের সহকারী সেক্রেটারি জেনারেল শফিকুল ইসলাম (মাসুদ) প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, 'যত দিন এই সরকারের পতন এবং জামায়াতের নেতাদের মুক্তি দেওয়া না হয়, তত দিন কর্মসূচি চলতে থাকবে। জনগণকে সঙ্গে নিয়ে যেকোনো ধরনের পরিস্থিতি মোকাবিলায় আমরা প্রস্তুত।'
গতকালের বিক্ষোভ মিছিলের কর্মসূচি ছিল মূলত ছাত্রশিবিরের। আগামী সপ্তাহে তারা নতুন কর্মসূচি দেবে বলে দলীয় সূত্র জানায়।
জানতে চাইলে ছাত্রশিবিরের কেন্দ্রীয় প্রচার সেক্রেটারি আবু সালেহ মো. ইয়াহইয়া স্বীকার করেন, গতকাল সারা দেশে কর্মসূচি ছিল শিবিরের। তিনি বলেন, ট্রাইব্যুনালের কার্যক্রম বন্ধ করা এবং জামায়াতের নেতাদের মুক্তি না দিলে তাঁদের আন্দোলন চলবে।

Your views should influence social and political conditions in the country; that's where we need them mostly, but - I still disagree with you on the point that a country should be run by a religious group.

I like most of what you have said in your attached article. I like the moderation in the approach to deal with the non-Muslim in an Islamic country, which is a progressive step in the right direction. This is in keeping with the situation in the modern world, but - my worry is - these are views and interpretations of the moderate Islamic scholars, like you, and these interpretations can change suddenly under the more fundamental (strict) interpretations of the Islamic-laws. The recent example is Taliban-rules in Afghanistan. I know you disagree with the implementation of the Islamic laws by the Taliban, and I commend you for that. I strongly agree with you that Taliban rules were dead on arrival; they were 100% incompatible with the modern world. I can't help but admire your efforts to bring moderate Islamic views into the main-stream. Your views should influence social and political conditions in the country; that's where we need them mostly, but - I still disagree with you on the point that a country should be run by a religious group.

I explain only one point.Dhimmi is a term used to denote protected minorities in conquered territory of Muslims .
All modern Muslim states have been achieved by joint efforts of Muslims and non- Muslims against colonial masters. So there will be no Zimmi now ) Please read Rasail wa Masail by Syed Abul Ala Maududi) .There was no Zimmi in Madinan state established by Prophet as it was not conquered territory)

Islamic political parties are totally different animals than the Christian Democratic/socialist or Muslim League. The reason is - Islamic parties ' goal is to run the country as per Sharia (Quranic) Laws. In india , Sangh Parivar has a goal also, and that is - to transform India into a Ram-Rajya, run by Sonaton Dharmic principles.
Do you see a similarity between the Sangh Parivar and the Islamic Parties? I do. The Sangh Parivar is not allowed to run for the political offices in India out of consideration for the religious minorities there. Can you imagine - what will be the condition of the religious minorities in India if that country is run by Sonaton Dharmic principles? Let's be logical here.
Yes, indirectly religion-based parties may influence the politics. That's normal. But, you do not want them to run for political offices overtly. All religious groups should enjoy the same treatment under a democratic system, which you cannot guarantee under a religion-based party rule. That's the difference, Mr. Hannan.
Smart people, in the past, has discovered this truth, and accordingly advocated separation of State and Religion. It is difficult to understand why many enlightened people still cannot understand this simple truth.
I know you will say that Islamic rule has provision for Dhimmihood to safe-guard the basic rights of the religious minorities. Let me suggest that - you go to India and advocate that India should also be a Ram-Rajya, run by the Sonaton Dharmic Principles, and all religious minorities there should be granted Dhimmihood. How many supporters you will find from the religious minority communities there? My guess is you will need security protection to get out of India . In my view – religion-based political party is a very selfish idea.

Best regards. In the western democracies even communist parties are allowed though communists do not believe in democracy, their theory is one party rule. Bangladesh constitution is now both democratic and Islamic as it has Islam as state religion. So no Islamic party can be banned here.
As far as I know there are Islamic parties in Britain and some other western countries. At least there is nothing in their constitution to stop Islamic parties.
Actually left and secular elements are trying to exclude Islamic parties as they think that these parties will ultimately overcome them.
One more thing, if Islamic party is banned, Islam will re emerge in politics in other names as happened in Turkey , Egypt , Tunisia etc.Seculars should stop their unnecessary and fruitless effort.

Your statement that - no party can be banned under democracy – would be correct if you are talking about a normal political party. But, the question is - does Jamat qualify to be a valid political party in a democratic system? Sangh Parivar, in India, cannot compete in the national/state elections; democracy demands separation of state (politics) and religion. Therefore, if a party uses religion for politics, it can be banned in a democratic system.
Jamat to be a viable political party, like the BJP in India, it needs to take out religion from the party political manifesto, like any other political party, and stop using religion for political benefit. That ' s not a fair political practice.

জামাতের আচরণ বজ্রসরিসৃপের মত। জামাতের আচরন দেখে মনে হচ্ছে এটা কোন সভ্য সমাজ নয়।এটা হচ্ছে প্রাগৈতিহাসিক যুগের সেই ব্রন্টোরাস নামক ডাইনোসর। বাংলায় যাকে বলে বজ্রসরিসৃপ।কোটি কোটি বছর আগে এই প্রাণী পৃথিবীর বুকে চরে বেড়াতো,প্রায় সাতাশি হাজার পাউন্ড ওজনের বিশাল শরীর টেনে টেনে। তার থপ্ থপ্ পায়ের চাপে থর থরিয়ে কেঁপে উঠতো মৃত্তিকার বুক।যেমনি ভাবে জামাত সদৃশ ডাইনোসরের সহিংসতায় কম্পিত হয়েছে সারা বাংলার বুক। আর এই সমাজটি নিতান্তই ঘিলুশূন্য,ঠিক বিশালদেহী ডাইনোসরের মত। তার মগজ ছিলো একটি মুরগীর ডিমের চেয়েও কম কিন্তু ভয়াবহতা ছিল বিশাল। তাই জামাত নামক এই মাকাল ফলটি বাংলাদেশের রাজনীতিতে প্রয়োজন আছে কিনা তা ভেবে দেখার সময় এসেছে। কারণ এই দলটি জাতিকে অপমান, লাঞ্চনা ছারা আর কিছুই দিতে পারেনি।স্বাধীনতাপূর্ব থেকে আজ অবদি এই দলটি বাংলাদেশের মানুষের কোন কাজে এসেছে কিনা তা গবেষণার বিষয় নয়। মোটা দাগে বলা যায় 'না'।
