Why Malala should be left alone, Ms. Majid? Malala's cause is monumental; it needs world attention and she needs a forum. The Nobel Peace Prize will give her that opportunity. I am not sure why Farida Majid is bringing her personal problems with Tarek Fatah into this discussion. The issue here is women's right, isn't it? Ms. Majid said – "There is nothing the world -- Ban Ki Moon, Gordon Browne, Zardari, et al -- cannot accomplish now in the realm of girls' education that would be made easier with a Malala Nobel Peace Prize." What type of talk is this? Jiten Roy

Thanks for the history search on the other brave Malalas of Afghanistan. The signature campaign is madness, myopic and hides beneath the hype certain special interests not all of them very obvious or honorable. I dread to think the many ways a Nobel Peace Prize hung around the neck can hamper the normal growth of a young person. It seems Malala eked a life out of the Taliban bullet only to be added as an ammo to Tarek Fatah's personal political arsenal. I have a certain inkling what Tarek Fatah is on about because we clashed in March, 2012 on NYPD surveillance: Fatah - for surveillance of NYC Muslims; me - against. From being a leftist Pakistani writer he has turned into a very right-wing zionism-supporting Canadian commentator. People (Mother Jones report) have traced a flush of right-wing finance to the Fatah-Zuhdi Jasser group from the usual neo-con Jewish line-up.
My fear is that the publicity will bolster Taliban resolve. There is nothing the world -- Ban Ki Moon, Gordon Browne, Zardari, et al -- cannot accomplish now in the realm of girls' education that would be made easier with a Malala Nobel Peace Prize. I hate to sound like one of those 'conspiracy theorists'. But my gut feeling: Leave the sweet girl alone to grow up in her own way. Farida Majid

She is known for her education and women's rights activism in the Swat Valley, where the Taliban had at times banned girls from attending school. In early 2009, at the age of 11/12, Yousafzai wrote a blog under a pseudonym for the BBC detailing her life under Taliban rule, their attempts to take control of the valley, and her views on promoting education for girls. On 9 October 2012, Malala was shot in the head and neck in an assassination attempt by Taliban gunmen while returning home on a school bus. In the days immediately following the attack, she remained unconscious and in critical condition, but later her condition improved enough for her to be sent to a hospital in the United Kingdom for intensive rehabilitation. On 12 October, a group of 50 Islamic clerics in Pakistan issued a fatwā against those who tried to kill her, but the Taliban reiterated its intent to kill Yousafzai and her father, Ziauddin. Former British Prime Minister and current UN Special Envoy for Global Education Gordon Brown launched a United Nations petition in Yousafzai's name, using the slogan "I am Malala" and demanding that all children worldwide be in school by the end of 2015. Brown said he would hand the petition to Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari in November. UN secretary general Ban Ki-Moon has announced that November 10 will be celebrated as Malala day. Malalai Maiwand of Afgan Freedom Fighter The famous shouting of Malalai of Maiwand; "Young love!, If you don't fall in the battle of Maiwand, By God, someone is saving you as a symbol of Malalai Kakar (1967 – 28 September 2008) was the most high-profile policewoman in Afghanistan after the ousting of the Taliban in 2001. A Lieutenant Colonel, she was the head of Kandahar's department of crimes against women. Kakar, who received numerous death threats, was assassinated by the Taliban on September 28, 2008. Kakar joined the police force in 1982, following in the footsteps of her father and brothers. She was the first woman to graduate from the Kandahar Police Academy, and the first to become an investigator with the Kandahar Police Department. Her suspension in May 2007 has generated protest internationally and appeals for her reinstatement have been signed by high profile writers, intellectuals such as Noam Chomsky, and politicians including Members of Parliament from Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain. She was called "the bravest woman in Afghanistan" by the BBC. In 2010, Time magazine placed Malalai Joya on their annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world Foreign Policy Magazine listed Malalai Joya in its annual list of the Top 100 Global Thinkers. On March 8, 2011, The Guardian listed her among "Top 100 women of Asia." *************************************************************************************
