A good article by Kaveri Gayen! Although secularism is concerned about people's cultural (religious) lives, in a democracy it is not a religious issue. It is a Constitutional issue. It may be said that secular democracy is the most religion-friendly system because it guarantees religious freedom to each citizen without prejudice. I support Ms Gayen's bitter complaint against the failure of this Govt. to secure the safety of the Hindu temples and residents. This Govt. has shown a disappointing insincerity towards its commitment to secularism. It is a SHAME!
Now, we have to be a little more intelligent and mindful. What do we want 'nishiddho'? Rajniti? No, of course not. You cannot 'ban' politics, and in a democracy, you cannot ban 'free association' or any politically oriented civic organization. Jamaat of Bangladesh has proved with repeated evidences that it is a CRIMINAL, anti-State fascist organization with an express agenda of Islamist terrorism, and NOT an innocent civic organization. Jamaat and all similar Islamist terrorist organizations must be strictly prohibited from taking part in active political life of Bangladesh.
