RE: [mukto-mona] Documentary in English on mass killing & genocide by Bangladesh Govt.

This kind of false propaganda is truly disgusting!  Thanks Mahfuzur Rahman for your attempt to point out the outrageous lies.  Can you please put your piece in a 'blog' so I can post it on facebook? You should also try to  disseminate your piece as widely as possible.  Please post it on News From Bangladesh -- a 'pnaaR' BNPwallah web-mag but with a large circulation.

Re: Documentary in English on mass killing and genocide by Bangladesh Govt.

I watched the videos carefully. They are very well made. The ones on Youtube are presented remarkably well, in good English. They are a well-oiled Islamist enterprise.
They are also rotten to the core and packed with lies and deceptions. Here are a few of my observations. I am sorry at the length of this piece. But the videos talk about many things and deserve a lengthy rebuttal.
The videos give the impression of a massacre supposedly perpetrated by the Government of Bangladesh. One calls it "mass killing," with 143 people reported killed, "women and children among them" in the few weeks of February and March, 2013. It does not mention how many died at the hands of the marauding Jamaat-Shibir gangs. It does not mention how much public property has been destroyed by them. Perhaps most significantly, it does not mention that seven policemen were among the dead, all killed in direct assault by the Jamaat -Shibir thugs. The commentator does not mention Jamaat-Shibir activist brutalizing policemen in full view of news cameras. And these brutalities started after an express threat by Jammat leaders of a civil war if the trial of war criminals was not discontinued.
It is also astonishing that none of the videos as much as mention the latest attacks on the Hindu community. In the past few weeks scores of Hindu houses and their places of worship have been destroyed and their idols decimated by marauding Islamist mobs.
In the videos Messers Golam Azam-Sayeedee-Molla are widely "respected" Islamic scholars. The presenters do not mention the razakars of whom these scholars were the leaders. It matters not to them that under their leadership the razakars caused the death of hundreds of thousands of Bengalis in 1971, and made over eight million people homeless. It matters not to them that tens of thousands of women were raped by the Pakistani military and their collaborators.
We are told Golam Azam did not hold any military position, meaning he could not have been responsible for the crimes committed by the military in 1971. This would be laughable were it not so bizarre. The Jamaat collaborated actively with the military without being part of it, and committed great atrocities themselves. Bizarre too is the charge that the Pakistani military were allowed to go scotfree, while the Jamaat is held accountable. But the Jamaat collaborated with military, and the argument that the military was let go and therefore the Jamaat is innocent is sheer nonsense.
One of the astonishing deceptions in the videos is the point made that Sayeedee was twice elected to Parliament from a dominantly Hindu area. The suggestion, I believe, is that Hindus loved him and therefore elected him. Could it not be that the minority community simply abstained from voting out of fear, leaving the door open for a Sayeedee victory?
A major theme of the videos is the trials in progress at the International Crimes Tribunal. Apart from the unfounded assertion that the trials are not transparent and open, an international lawyer comments on these videos that these trials should have been undertaken 41 years ago. He is right. The reason for this not happening might have escaped him, however. It was the murder of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975, and the change in the political scene that was ushered in, including the rehabilitation of anti-liberation forces like the Jamaat, that prevented the trials from taking place. And who is to say that 41 years is long when it comes to bringing to book people who have committed crimes against humanity? There is no time bar here.
Talking about the Tribunal and the law guiding it, a presenter of the videos suggests that the government changed the law to "appease" a group of protesters at Shahbagh. It perhaps never occurred to her that the demand for the change did not come from "a group" of protesters. In Shahbagh alone a million voices demanded the change and, apart from the Jamaat and their ilk, the nation stood behind the protesters at Shahbagh. The absence of a provision for the right of the government to appeal against a verdict of the tribunal was a lacuna in the law in any case and was rightly filled, protest or no protest. The presenter of the videos seriously, and intentionally, underestimates the pro-liberation forces sweeping through the country.
The ugliest character in the videos is undoubtedly a man named Ajmal Masroor, said to be an imam, a true Islamist. He reports that he received a call from someone close to the present government in Bangladesh who is said to have told him that the trials are a mere political show. Perhaps the imam should name this person. Or does he feel that lying is not a major sin. The man calls the protesters at Shahbagh "foolish" "secular fundamentalists" who do not understand the difference between Islam and Jamaat-e-Islam. He leaves no room for doubting his hatred of the secularist. Well, the present writer is an an unabashed secularist who feels he does not need anybody's permission to be one. He believes the future of humanity lies in the strengthening of secular ideas in every society. Coming to the Shahbagh protesters, they have made it absolutely clear that they are not against Islam, and that they are against the Jamaat. You see, Mr. Masroor, they see the difference all right. So do many pious Islamic scholars of the country who too want to see the Jamaat abolished.
