I am passing on a statement from a Pakistani progressive cyber-friend. It is a bold stare in the face of reality -- a painful reality that the people of Pakistan have suffered bitterly. Let the morale of our andolon at Shahbagh get a boost from this and strengthen its resolve to press the Bangladesh Govt. to declare Jamaat as a Terrorist Organization.

JAMAAT-E-ISLAMI.
I feel really happy to see that Bangladesh, our former colony at the end of the day has finally decided to take the right path. Zero tolerance for the traitors who kill their own people in collaboration with the foreign powers especially in the name religion. Our own jamat has never accepted this state and its constitution by heart. It has always wanted to turn it into an islamic caliphate where our present constitution is replaced by their version of a medieval Islamic sharia law. It resists tooth and nail every attempt to secularise our polity in any true sense of the term. It has thrown hundreds of thousands of our innocents youths into the flames of war in Afghanistan in the name of jihad. It also supports Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, killers of more than fifty thousand innocent Pakistanis so far, in the capacity of being their political wing. It has always worked closely with our military establishment as a part of an unholy mullah-military alliance to turn this castle of Islam into a real hell. Almost every dictator in the history of this hapless state has enjoyed an open or a secret support of this party. It has perpetrated all these crimes in the name of Islam. Now a days it plays again in the hands of our military establishment being an ardent part of Pakistan Defence Council, to secure the corporate interests of our military vis a vis USA. Who in this land of the pure is there this time to start an initiative against this wicked band of fanatics with a stern hand following the example set by our former colony.
[Note: Mr. Butt's calling the present Bangladesh as 'former colony' is a sarcastic reference to the ill-treatment of East Pakistan by the former Pakistani regimes. That reference inadvertently supports the 1971 War of Liberation of Bangladesh from the brutal Pakistani military assault. ~ F. Majid]
