Mr. Shome,

You do represent the youth of Sahbag; they were just as confused as you are for 42 years. But, when our back hits the wall, we find the way to get out. In '60s, as a young fellow in Dhaka University, I was diehard Marxist also. I did not find anything wrong in the theory. As I started to earn my living, nature started to teach me lessons, and I started to find out faults in Marxism. I am glad that you found the source of your confusion, which I could not at your age. That's a sign of smartness; obviously, you are a talented person.

Your teacher, Paulo Fiere, was an inspiring educationist, and a social reformer. Most American Universities are following his model for a long time. In fact, that was the very first contrast, I noticed, when I started my educational journey through that system. I was amazed to see teacher student interactions in the campus. As a research fellow, like you, my own students' attitude started to impress me.

Unfortunately, no system is perfect for the most intelligent species on earth; they will find loopholes to bend the system to make it work only for a particular class or people. That's the part missing from all those model theories. This is the part we have to add to the library of our knowledge of those theories.

As students graduate from the education system, they meet an alien world out side the campus. They find roadblocks along the way; they learn to navigate in course of time. There is no theory to represent the reality of the modern world. You need to learn it from the nature. That's the best teacher on earth. So, please keep your mind open to receive lessons from the nature. In American language – it is called - being street-smart -  I call it being practical-minded. If you are confined in a particular cocoon of ideology, you are guaranteed to fail; Nature is much more complex, unfortunately.

Regards,

Dear Sir,

You are right that I have "mixed up too many issues". I am not able to make a decisive stance on this. My opinions are tentative.  I am sorry that I am still "confused". However, all these confusions are not specific to Shahbag movement only.

I think course of a revolution can not be predicted before hand, but atleast we can reflect at every stage. I get scholarship from Department of Atomic Energy (Government of India) but I am against Nuclear power and take part in protests. I am against present developmental model in India. And I think we must reflect what we are heading at.

I do not have any alternative to "communist" ideology. Actually, more precisely, I borrowed my philosophical position from Paulo Freire.

Thanking you.

With best regards,

Saurav

You said: Finally, are Shahbag participants are willing to sustain their movement for a just society and start practising a sustainable livelihood? Will the next Shahbag echo M. K. Gandhi's famous statement "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."?
Mr. Sourav,
Unfortunately, you have mixed up too many issues in your write up. It is hard to understand what you are trying to say. In some parts you appeared to be supportive of Sahbag movement, in other parts - you are not sure. You are confused. You need to find your conviction going forward. And achieve one at a time; don't try to dwell on too many things at once; nothing will get done. Sahbag movement is only about one issue, and that is - to demand due punishment for the war criminals. Don't get bogged down into thinking - if this movement will bring the world peace or not.
Oh, yes, don't listen or follow too much quotes from the past. Most of them are outdated. Those are quotes from the bygone days; time has changed. Be practical; otherwise, you will lose.
You quoted – Gandhi; let me ask you - what would you do if someone wants to take your eye out? If you start feeling for attacker's eye – you will lose your own. You seem to be young, but timid-hearted. Do you know why? Your liberal upbringing – that's why. Get the utopian communist ideology out of your head as soon as you can; it won't work in this world - try that in the heaven.
