Even few years back, I had the same opinion about Assad. Just another ruthless Arab dictator, who will go on until he is dead or killed by another dictator. But, now, I do have a different opinion about this man. He is bad but who will replace him? Some Jeffersonian democrats like in Egypt and Libya? I am not sure about US dropping few bombs and all Syrian problems will be solved magically? That has not happened in any Arab countries yet. Would Syria be different?

Subject: [mukto-mona] [Politiconomy] Syria's surrender of Chemical Weapons Stock Piles.
Syria's mass killer and "Thug" Bashar AL-Asad's foreign minister welcomes a Russian proposal to place the nation's chemical weapons under international control.
This is an inadvertent admission of guilt from using chemical weapons -- isn't it. It is also a ploy to buy more time from being bombed.
Hopefully, the Obama administration will not be deterred by this ploy. I would urge the administration to drop some canisters of chemical weapons to all of Asad's palaces.
It is so unfortunate that rulers of almost all Muslim countries are thugs.
Thank you all,

Syria welcomes Russian chemical arms arsenal proposal
Reuters, Moscow
Syria welcomes a Russian proposal to place the nation's chemical weapons under international control, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem said on Monday after talks in Moscow, praising the Kremlin for seeking to "prevent American aggression".
Moualem, who spoke to reporters through an interpreter after Russia expressed hope the proposal could avert military strikes against Syria, stopped short of saying explicitly that President Bashar al-Assad's government accepted it.
"I state that the Syrian Arab Republic welcomes the Russian initiative, motivated by the Syrian leadership's concern for the lives of our citizens and the security of our country, and also motivated by our confidence in the wisdom of the Russian leadership, which is attempting to prevent American aggression against our people," he said.
