It is a nice idea. But how about existing cities? What BAL government has plan (s) to save from most worst conditions, please we need to discuss and tell people and Bangladesh government. There are no good transportation, and water supply and sanitation system. Education systems are in very bad conditions compared with neighboring countries.

আন্তর্জাতিক মানের সম্মেলন কেন্দ্র, বাণিজ্য মেলা, বিনোদন কেন্দ্রসহ ঢাকার নিকটবর্তী ওই এলাকা ঘিরে নগরায়নের বিষয়ে এরইমধ্যে অর্থমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে আলোচনা হয়েছে বলেও জানিয়েছেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী।
অর্থায়ন নিয়ে বিশ্ব ব্যাংকের সঙ্গে দীর্ঘ টানাপোড়েনের পর নিজস্ব অর্থে মুন্সীগঞ্জের মাওয়ায় দেশের সবচেয়ে ব্যয়বহুল অবকাঠামো প্রকল্প পদ্মা সেতুর কাজ শুরু করেছে সরকার, যা আগামী চার বছরের মধ্যে শেষ হবে বলে আশা করা হচ্ছে।
রোববার যোগাযোগ মন্ত্রণালয় পরিদর্শনে এসে মন্ত্রী ও কর্মকর্তাদের সঙ্গে বৈঠকে প্রধানমন্ত্রী তার পরিকল্পনা তুলে ধরে বলেন, "সেখানে আমরা একটা নতুন শহর গড়ে তুলতে পারি। অর্থমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে ইতোমধ্যে কথা হয়েছে। সেখানে একটা ভালো কনভেনশন সেন্টার করা হবে। পাশাপাশি বাণিজ্য মেলাটাও যদি ওখানে করতে পারি তাহলে ওই জায়গা উন্নত হয়ে যাবে। ওখানে এন্টারটেইনমেন্টের জন্য ব্যবস্থা করতে পারি।
"ওই জায়গাটা জিরো পয়েন্ট থেকে কাছে, মাত্র ২৫ কিলোমিটার। কাজেই ওই জায়গাটায় আমরা নতুন একটা আলাদা শহর গড়ে তুলতে পারি। যে শহরটা হংকং বা ওই ধরনের.... মাথায় রেখে গড়ে তুলতে পারি। কাজেই সেভাবে আমাদের কাজ এগিয়ে নিয়ে যেতে হবে।"
পদ্মা সেতু নির্মাণে ওই এলাকায় জমির দাম বেড়ে চর দখলের হিড়িক পড়ার আশঙ্কা জানিয়ে এ বিষয়ে সবাইকে সতর্ক থাকতে বলেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী।
এর আগে আওয়ামী লীগ সরকারের গত মেয়াদে প্রস্তাবিত পদ্মা সেতুর পাশেই মুন্সীগঞ্জের আড়িয়ল বিলে নতুন একটি আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দর করার পরিকল্পনা করা হয়েছিল। কিন্তু স্থানীয়দের বাধায় সে পরিকল্পনা থেকে সরে আসে সরকার।
মুন্সীগঞ্জের ওপারে প্রস্তাবিত পদ্মা সেতুর পাশেই ফরিদপুরের ভাঙায় নতুন বিমানবন্দর করার কথা তখন সরকারের পক্ষ থেকে বলা হয়েছিল।
