RE: [mukto-mona] Please read this touchy blog post of Dr Puspita--we have to fighy poverty, particularly save the street children

I like what you just said. Thank you.

I think both Netries are the problem. Whenever they go to power, their sons/daughters/sisters/etc., etc. get richer and richer, and people become poorer and poorer. You will see - those who die for the so called leaders (Netries) are all destitutes. I always wonder why people in Bangladesh worship their leaders so much. Wherever Netries go, I see thousands of people around them. For what – I wonder? What do they get in return? I know, some of them get kick-backs, but not all those people. In USA, when President comes to a town, the way people know is that roads are blocked off for traffic. Why can't we do that in Bangladesh? Stop worshipping Leaders; demand something from them.

Thanks again.

Attn: Mr. Jiten Roy,

I agree what you mentioned in your reply.
The most important factor in Bangladesh's democracy is that we could not establish truely independent Judiciery, Anti Corruption Bureau as well as independent powerful Election Commission. Without establishing this reality election under any government won't fulfill peoples expectation. Seperation of Judiciery and administration is still a dream for Bangladeshis. Our both Ladies refused to do that until now. In addition to that, autonomy for state run Radio and Television still not alloweed after 40 years of our liberation. Out TV  becomes like Bap-Betir Baksho or Shaheb Bib Golamer Baksho. While in power both Awami League and BNP use Police/RAb as their party cadre and syuppress the opposition voices.
Both Hasina and Khaleda did not  learn modern democracy even if they knew,  they donot want to establish this in Bangladesh for their own interest. As a result peoples suffering continuing for more than 40 years. Even powerful 1/11 government failled to establish that. Still there is no hope as long as our two dominant lady politicans contrls the destiny of our nation. We donot see any George Washington nor Mahatir Mohammad to guide the nation toward a truely demoicratic prosperous Bangladesh
Morever, our intellectuals are also divided they support either Awami League or BNP. There are very few truely independend intellectuals in Bangladesh.
Lastly our peopoles represntatives specially MP's are the most privilged seactiuon of the nation. They grab everythinhg forgeting the interest of the voter's who voted them to the Pareliament.

Sincerely,
Mohiuddin Anwar

I knew that you will say – I am an Awami League supporter because I am criticizing BNP. I think of myself as politically independent. If BNP takes right steps, I will support them.

The concept that some people could be apolitical or independent is absent in Bangladesh. May be - there is no politically independent people in Bangladesh, which is very unfortunate. Without a large politically independent segment of population, a democratic system cannot work. This may be the situation in Bangladesh because democracy is not working there. Opposition party (BNP or Awami League) never takes part in the democratic process, and this is quite apparent in the recent activities of BNP.

Some objections you raised I also heard from Awami League when BNP was in power. I heard that BNP/Jamat was putting all their people in the key positions. So, I have no sympathy in this regard.

As far as caretaker government, I do not like it. It leaves a bad impression on the political system about its trust-worthiness. That is why - this type of system is not present in other democratic countries. The election commission should be independent of political affiliation. BNP should make sure that it is independent.

Mr. Jiten Roy,

In your reply you already proved that you are anti-BNP and pro-Awami. You don't see misrule of current Hasina regime. Change the lens correctly you will see everything.
Do you know why Hasina removed the caretaker provision while High court advised for two more election under caretaker administration. She knew it very well under caretaker administration 'election engireeing' in favor of Awami league is not guranteed.
Do you know current Hasina regime Awamized every sector of the government like Supreme/Hugh court, Adminstration. Supreme court judges acting  like ruling party cadre and declaring all verdicts in favor of the ruling party?
Police/RAB killing and abductiong oipposition activists withjout any recess.
RAB became notorious Rokkhi Bahini of the past.
Open your eye, you will see everything.
I donot think Hasina's policy of conductiong next election under her rule will  be accepted by the peopole (except some kottor Awami/Baksalis).
After our liberation no sitting government ever defeated in any election, do you know that plain truth?
Entire adminstration, Police, EC obidiently support ruling party agenda in all election, thertefore, election under powerful Caretaker administration and powerful EC(Like India) is the solution.
Many thanks again,

M.Anwar

You may call this an advice from a friend. I like you personally, and I have no stake in this game. I am not a politician; all I want is - what is good for the country, and what I am witnessing is not good.

When you say – Khaleda good - Hashina bad or BNP/Jamat good - Awami League bad, day-in and day-out, what you are doing is painting yourself as partisan communicators. When you do that – you lose your credibility as a communicator. After that - even if you make a valid point, no one wants to believe you. Some of those points you are making are quite valid, but when your credibility is in question, your message gets lost.

We know Bangladesh is one of the poorest country in the world, and there are thousands of such heart-breaking stories, like the one Dr. Pushpa (I doubt it's a genuine name) has painted in her article. To tell you the truth, I could not read it; it is too painful to read. But, if you blame Awami League for that and want to accuse AL for not lifting Bangladesh from the poorest nation status, when your party was in power, to the prosperous one in a few years of Awami League tenure, it becomes a political rhetoric.

As a political bystander, I will say this much to you, what BNP/Jamat is doing in Bangladesh is totally destructive politics. If you really love your country, above and beyond your hunger for power, you could not have taken those steps.

Tell me, Mr. Mohiuddin and Mr. Hannan, why you want to bring down a government during the mid-term of their tenure through demonstrations, when you have a democratic process available to do so in a few years; can't you wait for a few more years for the next election to take over power through peoples' verdict? Bangladesh has a pretty good functioning democratic system, and the next election is not very far. Try to motivate people through proper communications, not demonstrations. How can a government do anything good for the people, when the opposition is hell-bent to create obstacles after obstacles on their way with destructive politics? You are not living in a dictatorship, like many middle-eastern countries. You can rest assure - when you go to power through demonstration, you will be taken out off power through demonstration also. It's a viscious circle.

Please don't tell me, you are not being treated properly by the ruling party. You were not saints when you were in power either. Do you still remember what happened after your party's election victory in 2001? You were victor then, you should have been humble and gracious to people. Instead your people unleashed vindictive venoms on opposition, and on innocent religious minorities in the country. It was a living hell on earth. That was totally necessary. How do you justify that action?

Please don't take it otherwise; it is my personal view as a public observer.

Thanks.

Jiten Roy
