Re: [mukto-mona] Relationship between Bangladesh and India must be based on mutual respect [HASINA SELLING BANGLADESH. STOP HER!]

I bet, with some drinks and party foods under one roof everything is possible. My dear friend,  you have not convinced anybody.  Those party people were just polite.

I am sure Indians are desperately lacking your foresights and leadership quality. Brother, please start convincing Muktomona skeptics before you go for those damn Indians. Thank you.

>>>>>>>> I have done so and fortunately have been received well by the people I have spoken to. My face to face discussions were very effective. A country like India does not need to spend so much on defense. They should "Invest" some wealth to improve relations with neighboring countries. It will SAVE them more money.

Dysfunctional Indian policies "Allowed" China become so popular to India's neighbors.

Shalom!

You can do as much "Cheer leading" you want to but Indian policies in past decades did not serve India very well. Today hundreds of millions of Indians are not pleased with how Delhi controls them. A great number of them are "Fighting" the Indian government itself.

India is a huge country and we are a small country. But even small county like BD is very important to India in many levels. If they want to be like Israel and use force at every opportunity, they are going to miss a lot of opportunities to prosper with Bangladesh.

We are ahead of many social indicators from India. If we get a stable political climate we can improve even more. I like to see India prosper as well. It is in our interest to see a solid India. But right now "India" is not working out for "Indians".

Shalom!

Pakistan was brought as an analogy to show the "best example" of your inter country mutual respect BS. The BS does not exist unless both countries are equally civilized and wealthy.  The same goes with Greece vs Germany. If Germans ever get stronger than France, expect the same treatment. That is the nature of the beast. I am not sure what planet you are from?

"That is why India has to spend most of it's budget for defense."

Indians are not naive and they know exactly what neighborhood they have been living for last sixty years. They do not want to be squeezed from the North, West and East. I do not blame them. Gandhian philosophy has no place in this do eating dog world. Good day!

As Dr. Roy has already stated, it is the national interests that determine the so called "mutual respect" BS

>>>>>>>> Mutual respect works for all relationships. As I said, a stable prosperous Bangladesh is in the best interest of India. Similarly if we have good relations with India, it is good for us. We source a lot of products, raw materials from India. So it is good for both countries.

Kindly drop your favorite "Pakistan" from this discussion. I was speaking about China. This is NOT about Pakistan, it is about Bangaldesh.

You are either a bully or bullied country.

>>>>>>>>> That is why India has to spend most of it's budget for defense. Such dysfunctional policy cannot bring anything good to any people. NOT even Indian people!

If Germany and France can work as partners (Germans attacked France plenty of times) to advance their countries, why can't India work as a "Partner" with Bangladesh. As I said, India has disfunctional relationship with ALL regional countries. So no one wins except defense contractors in western counties.

Shalom!

As Dr. Roy has already stated, it is the national interests that determine the so called "mutual respect" BS. Groups, countries are not much different from individual traits. If you know you can dominate your neighbor, you do it explicitly or implicitly. Pakistan's all weather friend China is the perfect example. Pakistanis visit Beijing with a beggar's bowl and you can easily guess what exactly happens within the four walls of Beijing palaces. The world is pretty much messed up since countries evolved. You are either a bully or bullied country. The only exception is the Scandinavian countries. But they too get bullied by Russians and Americans

Only remedy is to stop blaming Indians for our problems. We need to grow up. We created our countries and we need to make to work assuming India as a foreign non friendly country. The same goes with Burma. Yes, life is tough.

If Bangladesh or Pakistan were stronger, they would be playing exactly the same role.

Good point SD.

However India is not exactly a paradise for human rights and many other vital areas.

India does it's "Bully routine" with all neighboring countries. That is why it has such dysfunctional relationship with countries within the region.

It is India's best interest to treat BD with due dignity and respect.

Respect will result in good relationship and bullying resulted massive distrust between countries.

Respecting other countries is not only "Good policy" it very "Effective" policy as well.

Shalom!

"2. The relationship between Bangladesh and India must be based on mutual respect."

I love your way of writing. It reminds me my structured school days of past.
What I do not like is the way you try to impose your fixed ideas and doctrines on others. How do you define your inter country mutual respect? Do US, EU and China have enough respect for our country when we are not even behaving like adults. We still beg for favor from these powerful countries. Should Somalia and Bangladesh get equal respects from the US? I think you know the answer.
Mutual respect should not be a demand, you need to earn it, brother!

Dear Readers,

Salam / good afternoon. Would you please join me to say:

1. It should be crystal clear to everybody that Bangladesh is a sovereign and independent country like India.
2. The relationship between Bangladesh and India must be based on mutual respect.
3. We thank India when their help to Bangladesh is unconditional.

There are times when India getting such contracts make sense. This is one of those cases. India has been requesting BD government to allow it to transport goods to eastern India. It seems this is part of that plan.

As far as India-phobia is concern, it does exist. Similarly Indians also have "Bangla-phobia". It is clearly seen in many of their policies and practices. As I said before these two relatively friendly countries have ONE major issues. Which is how to share water.

Rest can be solved within six months. However India seems forever unwilling to take progressive steps to make it happen. We had high hope with India many times (last time after BAL was elected and government was working with Tista water issue) and India burst our hopes most of those times.

So while we should not be denying the fact that, India-phobia exists. At the same time, we should point out it is failed Indian policies which causes most of such feelings. It is good to remind all of us that, all of India's neighbors share this "Phobia". You can talk to people from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan and you will get similar feedback.

As I said, once India realize it has to lead the region than bully the region, we can live harmoniously.

Shalom!

I have been scratching my head to find out what's wrong in the tender notice. I could not find anything unusual there. It seems like - India is building a container port in Narayongonj; nothing wrong there. They are seeking tender bids; nothing wrong there either. Then, why is it generating so much anxiety among some people? Then I realized - oh, yes – it must be the ghost of our past Pakistani mindset, the fear of India (India-phobia), still haunting many Bangladeshis.

Let me ask a question - who will build Padma Bridge? Must be built with funds from some foreign governments. Let say it is  Japanese or South Korean. There will be ads for tender bids in their own country to contract out works. It's like when USA does rebuilding works, it hires their own companies to do so. The question is - would that be as worrisome to these people as it is with this particular case? I don't think so; won't you agree? This is what I called India-phobia. It's still at work, especially, among BNP/Jamat supporters. This is why Bangladesh will never be a friendly neighbor of India, ever.

Let me know - where I am wrong here.

Jiten Roy
