<<< তবে এর ব্যতিক্রমও রয়েছে। সাতক্ষীরায় নির্বাচন পূর্ববর্তী সময়ে ব্যাপক সহিংসতা চালিয়ে আসা জামায়াতের সঙ্গে আওয়ামী লীগের ঘনিষ্ট সম্পর্কের অভিযোগ পাওয়া গেছে। স্থানীয়দের মতে সাতক্ষীরার রাজনীতিতে দুই ভাই দুই দলের রাজনীতিতে সক্রিয় হওয়ায় জামায়াত-শিবির এলাকায় গত পাঁচ বছর ধরেই একছত্র আধিপত্য বিস্তার করতে পেরেছে। সাতক্ষীরা জেলা আওয়ামী লীগের সাধারণ সম্পাদক নজরুল ইসলামের ভাই হাবিবুর রহমান জেলা জামায়াতের রোকন। এ ছাড়া সাতক্ষীরায় সাবেক মন্ত্রী আফম রুহুল হক এবং জেলা আওয়ামী লীগের সভাপতি ইঞ্জিনিয়ার মুজিবর রহমানের মধ্যে প্রকাশ্য গ্রুপিং রয়েছে। গ্রুপিংয়ের কারণে আওয়ামী লীগ ওই সাংগঠনিকভাবে দুর্বল হয়ে পড়েছে। যাতে জামায়াত-শিবিরের হামলার প্রতিরোধ তো দূরের কথা প্রতিবাদও করতে পারেনি। স্থানীয় আওয়ামী লীগ জামায়াতের ঘনিষ্ট সম্পর্কের করণে প্রশাসন চাইলেও জামায়াতের বিরুদ্ধে কঠোর ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ করতে পারেনি। এ ছাড়া বিএনপি আমলের আলোচিত ৮২০ সাবইন্সেপেক্টরদের অনেকেই সাতক্ষীরায় দায়িত্ব পালন করায় সহিংসতার ব্যাপকতা বেড়েছে। তবে সাতক্ষীরায় নতুন জেলা প্রশাসক এবং পুলিশ সুপার নিয়োগ করার পর এখন অনেকটাই শান্ত হয়ে এসেছে। >>>>>>

Deeldar, I gave the benefit of doubt to Awami League, but you seem to disagree. I can see your point also; people have lost faith on everything.

I know that many people think Awami League is playing politics with the safety and security of religious minorities. If that is true, they are putting ax on their own foot. When religious minority group is reduced to an extent that they become politically irrelevant, the existence of Awami League will be threatened, and the future of Bangladesh will be at stake.

I do not see this as a "Strategical issue"  or political issue. It is the right of every citizen to expect protection from the state. We are not a basket case anymore. We made progress in many areas, if their is political will we can start persecuting criminals as well.

I feel it is a fundamental issue and a moral issue for Bangladesh. Both Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina lost family members and it is obvious they know first hand how it feels to lose a family member for politics. Despite many criticism people of our country respect both leaders (As they have elected them several times). I hope at this stage of their lives, they will take the moral high ground and establish some ground rules for justice in future Bangladesh.

We are left with no choice but to be hopeful for future Bangladesh.

Deeldar, I gave the benefit of doubt to Awami League, but you seem to disagree. I can see your point also; people have lost faith on everything. Last 42 years has been nothing but betrayal of their trust over and over again, and they have given up hopes.  

 

My feeling is – country's religious minorities are demoralized, otherwise they could have created a strong resistance against such onslaughts on them. If we assume about 10% religious minorities in Bangladesh, that comes out to be 16 million of them in a tiny country, like Bangladesh. I know – there are millions of people from the religious majority group, who will come forward to stand behind them in their fight for survival. If we assume another 10% religious majority join hands with religious minority, the strength of that group could be more than 30 million, which is not an insignificant figure.

 

I think – all that is missing is the initiative to organize a strong resistance group against communal onslaughts. Minorities need to resist; no other alternatives left. Just crying for help will not do it; it needs organizational motivation and preparedness to fight back.

I think - this is the first time in the history of Bangladesh - Awami League is standing by the religious minorities, and taking some initiative to bring communal culprits to justice. Many News media were involved in arousing communal hatred against Hindus around the country. They were focusing mainly on Hindu girls in the polling stations. I saw a young girl, wearing vermilion on the forehead, being interviewed by nTV (the BNP/Jamat station) reporter. Right away, I said to my wife - this girl could be in trouble for this interview, and this interview is only serving one purpose - that is to show that mainly Hindus came to the polling station. Such efforts were seen in many other media outlets also.

 
I hope government - will introduce broadcasting guidelines for TV and print media banning dissemination of news with intent to generate communal hatred.

However, Awami League finally is trying to do something for minorities. It may be late, but – I am glad that - it's happening. Religious minorities are assets for secular Bangladesh, without them, Bangladesh is nothing but another Pakistan. Also, the survival of secular political parties are at stake in Bangladesh without substantial presence of religious minority; Awami League should remember that.

হামলার বিচার হবে দ্রুত বিচার ট্রাইব্যুনালে

সংখ্যালঘু সম্প্রদায়ের ওপর হামলাকারীদের দ্রুত বিচার করতে এ-সংক্রান্ত সব মামলা দ্রুত বিচার ট্রাইব্যুনালে পাঠানোর সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে সরকার। একই সঙ্গে ১৯৭৫ সালের ১৫ আগস্টের পর সংখ্যালঘু সম্প্রদায়ের ওপর নির্যাতনকারীদের বিচার করতে বিশেষ ট্রাইব্যুনাল গঠন করার সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়েছে।
স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয় সূত্রে জানা গেছে, স্বরাষ্ট্রসচিব সি কিউ কে মুসতাক আহমেদ গতকাল বুধবার সংখ্যালঘুদের ওপর হামলাকারীদের বিচার বিষয়ে মন্ত্রণালয়ের আইন শাখার কর্মকর্তাদের সঙ্গে জরুরি বৈঠক করে এ সিদ্ধান্ত নেন।
বৈঠকের সিদ্ধান্ত অনুযায়ী দেশের যেসব স্থানে সংখ্যালঘুদের বাড়িঘর ও ধর্মীয় প্রতিষ্ঠানে হামলা হয়েছে, সেসব এলাকার দ্রুত বিচারযোগ্য মামলাগুলোকে দ্রুত বিচার ট্রাইব্যুনালে পাঠানোর জন্য সংশ্লিষ্ট জেলা প্রশাসককে আজ বৃহস্পতিবার স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয় থেকে চিঠি পাঠানো হবে।
একই সঙ্গে সাতক্ষীরা, দিনাজপুর, রামুসহ বিভিন্ন স্থানে এ পর্যন্ত সংখ্যালঘু সম্প্রদায়ের ওপর হামলা, নির্যাতন, হত্যা, ধর্ষণ, বাড়ি লুট ও সম্পত্তি দখলের ঘটনার পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে দায়ের করা মামলাগুলোর দ্রুত বিচার করতে বিশেষ ট্রাইব্যুনাল গঠন করার প্রস্তাবও আজ আইন, বিচার ও সংসদবিষয়ক মন্ত্রণালয়ে পাঠানো হবে। 
জানতে চাইলে স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের যুগ্ম সচিব (আইন ও পরিকল্পনা) শওকত মোস্তফা গতকাল প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, 'আমরা সংখ্যালঘু সম্প্রদায়ের ওপর হামলাকারীদের মামলাগুলো দ্রুত বিচার ট্রাইব্যুনালে নেওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছি। এর জন্য গেজেট নোটিফিকেশনের প্রয়োজন রয়েছে। এসব মামলার ক্ষেত্রে জেলা প্রশাসক ও সরকারি কৌঁসুলিদের সহায়তা চাওয়া হবে।
এদিকে, সাম্প্রতিক সময়ে হামলা হওয়া সংখ্যালঘুদের বাড়িঘর ও ধর্মীয় প্রতিষ্ঠান পরিদর্শনে স্বরাষ্ট্রসচিবের নেতৃত্বে একটি প্রতিনিধিদল আজ দিনাজপুর ও যশোরে যাচ্ছে। এ প্রতিনিধিদলে প্রধানমন্ত্রীর পররাষ্ট্রবিষয়ক উপদেষ্টা গওহর রিজভী ও বর্ডার গার্ড বাংলাদেশের (বিজিবি) মহাপরিচালক মেজর জেনারেল আজিজ আহমেদ থাকবেন।
জানা গেছে, এসব আক্রান্ত এলাকা পরিদর্শনের প্রধান উদ্দেশ্য হচ্ছে, সংখ্যালঘু সম্প্রদায়ের ওপর হামলাকারীদের ও পুরো ঘটনার পেছনে কাদের ইন্ধন ছিল তা নির্ণয় করা। আক্রান্ত এলাকা নিয়ে বিভিন্ন জেলা থেকে স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ে যে প্রতিবেদন আসছে বা তথ্য দেওয়া হয়েছে, তাতে এসব ঘটনায় স্থানীয় কোন্দলের বিষয়টিও উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে। এ ছাড়া দায়িত্বরত পুলিশ কর্মকর্তা ও প্রশাসনের সঠিকভাবে দায়িত্ব পালন না করারও অভিযোগ রয়েছে। কিছু কিছু এলাকার প্রকৃত চিত্র নিয়েও দ্বিধাদ্বন্দ্ব রয়েছে। এ অবস্থায় পুরো বিষয়টি আক্রান্তদের মুখ থেকে শুনতে ওই সব এলাকায় যাচ্ছে এ প্রতিনিধিদল। এলাকা পরিদর্শনের পর পুরো অবস্থা বিবেচনা করে পরবর্তী ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হবে।
স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের সূত্রমতে, সাম্প্রতিক সময়ে হামলার ক্ষয়ক্ষতি জানাতেও জেলা প্রশাসকদের নির্দেশ দিয়েছে স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়। এ ছাড়া ত্রাণ মন্ত্রণালয়কে এসব ক্ষয়ক্ষতির হিসাব বিবেচনা করে সহযোগিতা করার কথা বলা হয়েছে।
স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয় সূত্রে জানা গেছে, যেসব এলাকায় এ ধরনের ঘটনা ঘটছে এবং ঘটতে পারে, সেসব এলাকা থেকে সেনাবাহিনী, বিজিবিসহ অন্যান্য আইনশৃঙ্খলা রক্ষাকারী বাহিনীকে প্রত্যাহার না করার নির্দেশ দেওয়া হয়েছে। ইতিমধ্যে দায়িত্বে অবহেলার জন্য যশোরের পুলিশ সুপারকে প্রত্যাহার করা হয়েছে। বিশেষ ট্রাইব্যুনাল গঠনের নথিপত্রও গতকাল চূড়ান্ত করা হয়েছে।
সরকারের দায়িত্বশীল সূত্রগুলো জানায়, ২০০১ সালের ঘটনায় হামলাকারীদের শাস্তি দেওয়া দূরের কথা, সবার বিরুদ্ধে এখন পর্যন্ত মামলাই করা যায়নি। বর্তমান সরকার ওই ঘটনায় দেশের ১২টি জেলায় ৩৭টি মামলা করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছিল। এখন পর্যন্ত মামলা হয়েছে ২৭টি। এর মধ্যে ১১টিতে সব আসামি খালাস পেয়েছেন, নয়টি বিচারাধীন। আরও ছয়টির ঘটনা তদন্তের পর্যায়ে আছে। আরেকটি মামলার কার্যক্রম উচ্চ আদালতের নির্দেশে স্থগিত আছে।
