[ALOCHONA] Re: Hasina and family's lifelong security

Dear Alochok Omar

My comments were dripping with sarcasm. You should have known it the moment you read the preposterous use of the term 'sovereign integrity' : )

You should have been one of those who laughed loud or smiled wryly or shook his head knowingly.

But more important than my poor sarcasm and your poor intuition is the fact that:

The majority of ministers in the government of Bangladesh believe what I have written to be true. Some of it is spoken only in grand public gatherings of the party faithful. Some of it is spoken only in private meetings of the party leadership. Some of it is spoken only in bed to a supportive spouse some it is never spoken but stays silent within amongst the insecurities, vulnerabilities and hypocrisies of many a mediocre man whose efforts at political greatness depend entirely on the mood of his Nethri.

Regards

Ezajur Rahman

[ALOCHONA] Re: BNP should also wipe out reformists.

Dear Alochok Mahathir

Bhai - you are a Khaleda/Tariq loyalist who cannot tolerate the fact that BNP (and the future of BNP via Tariq) have been dealt such a bad blow by the CTG. Thats it. Nothing more or less than that.

If you want to be perceived differently you need to shine your light on BNP too. But you won't. But you can't. But you don't know how.

But you should brother. You should.

[ALOCHONA] Tipai team to return without visiting site

Tipai team to return without visiting site
Nazrul Islam

Bangladesh’s delegation returns home today from India abandoning its planned field trip to Tipaimukh project site after heavy rains failed its attempt twice.
The 10-member team left Guwahati, from where it tried to reach the site by helicopter on Friday and Sunday, for New Delhi with a hope to visit the project site in India’s Manipur state sometime in dry season, officials who are in constant touch with the team told New Age Sunday.
Former water resources minister Abdur Razzak led the delegation that left Dhaka for New Delhi on July 29 to talk to Indian officials and have a close look at the Tipaimukh dam site amid uproar against the planned Indian structures on the cross border river Barak that flows into Bangladesh rivers Surma and Kushiyara.
The delegation members held talks in Delhi but failed to reach Tipaimukh because of inclement weather in the hilly terrain, according to officials.
On return, the delegation would decide whether it will visit again in the dry season or send an expert group to assess the impacts of the Indian planned multi-purpose dam on downstream Bangladesh.
‘The dialogue will continue at different levels,’ said one official adding that the delegation members will have a meeting tomorrow to analyse the data they have collected on the dam during the visit.
The team, comprising six lawmakers from ruling Awami League and Jatiya Party, three officials and one academic, is learnt to have proposed a similar visit to the dam project in November.
Lawmakers of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami refused to accompany the team, saying that such a trip would be a ‘picnic party’ without adequate presence of experts.
Choosing monsoon period was perhaps a wrong decision, the delegation chief Abdur Razzak told BBC in Guwahati.
The delegation during its stay in New Delhi held talks with Indian power minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and officials concerned. Bangladesh proposed a joint impact study on the project. But no clear signal was given from the Indian side as yet.
The Indian authorities only said that they would not take any scheme harmful for Bangladesh — an assurance given by Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh to prime minister Sheikh Hasina during a meeting on the sidelines of NAM summit in Egypt last month.
The project is a hydro-electric one and there is no possibility of diverting water from the common river, they said.
Environmentalists fear that the Indian project on the Barak river would restrict flow to the Meghna river and cause negative impacts on the ecology of the Sylhet region.
Leader of the opposition and former prime minister Khaleda Zia, in a letter last month, requested the Indian prime minister to drop the project.
The $1.7 billion project, cleared by the Manipur government, is awaiting approval by the Indian cabinet committee concerned. India says the project is designed to produce 1,500 megawatts of hydroelectricity.

[mukto-mona] Re: Please shall be united for fighting against minority repression and state torture in Bangladesh.

Dear Akash,

As a Human Right activist a fully endorsed your views that members of the religious and ethnic minorities should be protected from all kinds of aduses. My sympathies are with Ms. Radha Rani Halder and i demand that the criminal be brought to book.

About the same time I request researchers and Human Right activist like you to find out how many cases of Human Rights abuses have occurred during and around the period of Halder's abuse. Such an investigation will help us to find out if helpless people of all communities, inclusive of majority and minorities, are suffering from abuses of all kinds or abuses are directed only against the members of the minority communities. Such an investigation is necessary to understand the psychic of the Bangladesh community as a whole.

Take me to confidence

But why, now there is a Democratic government have. So, what and where is the problem to stop minority torture and extra judicial killings? Re: [ALOCHONA] Reply to Shamim Chowdhury on Tipaimukh Dam

Tipaimukh Dam is not a AL or BNP issue. This is an issue of our survival.
I don't think Bongo Bondhu would sit idle when some thing big like this is going on.
India will take care of their interest and that's normal.
We should do the same. If we think as a nation that we can do it, then we will.

Mr. Bahar,
During her India visit as Prime Minister, Khaleda Zia forgot to raise "WATER SHARING ISSUE" with her Indian counterpart!! This is called HEADBOWING towards India. You have attended the so called Fobana in DC!! You are not with the main stream ( Houston Fobana ), always with the loosers ( BNP )!! So, your arguments do not carry any value!

Reply to Shamim Chowdhury on Tipaimukh Dam:

Abid Bahar:

It is true, political parties are engaged more in making profit by selling privileges than promoting the national interest. This could be said for both the major political parties of Bangladesh . Having said this however, Shamim Chowdhury's argument below to blame BNP than India for the Tipaimukh dam is preposterous. It is done either from his ignorance or at best from his political mindset. He says:

Shamim Chowdhury:

"It is obscure to believe India did not informed (sic)  Bangladesh about their Tipaimukh project, therefore there is a possibility that BNP-Jamaat alliance gave a secret green signal to go ahead with this illegal unilateral decision and India took a chance on head bowing BNP-Jamaat government."

Abid Bahar:

How can Shamim Chowdhury be so sure when he is just assuming and saying "there is a possibility", "it is obscure"? How does he know for sure BNP did the "head bowing." to the Indian project? It is the BNP government that raised the Farakka problem to the United Nations. Moreover, we have seen in the Farakka dam project that India does these projects through extreme secrecy. Farakka was completed during the liberation war. We only know about these from Indian sources

Shamim Chowdhury:

People of Bangladesh learned about Tipaimukh Hydro Electric Project on river Barak, the second largest river in the region in Manipur as well as river Tuivai after Awami League led alliance came into power. For the month and half we have seen numerous seminar symposium making attempt to create awareness among common people as well as government.

Abid Bahar:

I myself as the member of the International Farakka Committee knew about the dam project in 1994. Then we were asking for both the equitable distributions of the Ganges water as well as to stop Tipaimuk dam.  This Indian dam project with many others was identified in a map drawn by B.M. Abbas during the 70's. We have done many seminars on Indian dam projects during the 90's and later; including one in Dhaka in 2003 at the China -Bangladesh Friendship centre where local and foreign experts and BNP ministers were also present while we narrowly escaped AL's call for nationwide strikes. It is said that hese presures led India to sign a deal with Hasina.

Unfortunately, Shamim Chowdhury came to know about the Tipaimukh project only recently when India is asking the AL government to approve the deal including to give transit through Bangladesh .

Indian policy here is fooling us and rule and here we have politicians and socalled experts like Shamim Chowdhury working as  the AL analyst.

I will not go any further to waste my time to point out Shamim Chowdhury's type of propaganda or spreading of ignorance as fact but will leave the readers to find out his base on "obscure" information and his understanding of  the Tipaimukhdam problem..

_________ ______

Shamim Chowdhury's article below:

BNP-Jamaat alliance was in power when Indian government finalized Tipaimukh Hydro Electric Project in Manipur in 2003. The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (neepco), the government agency entrusted with the responsibility of building power projects in the northeast, has been handed the project. In November 2005, it floated a global tender for the project. In July 2006, the pre-bid qualification of the tender for the first phase wasd opened. Initially Indian government budgeted five thousand crore for this project.

The ball was finally rolling from Indian side in 2003 while the BNP-Jamaat alliance government in Bangladesh was sleeping. Irresponsible, incompetent Khaleda government did not utter a single word about Tipaimukh from 2001 to 2006 while in power. It is obscure to believe India did not informed Bangladesh about their Tipaimukh project, therefore there is a possibility that BNP-Jamaat alliance gave a secret green signal to go ahead with this illegal unilateral decision and India took a chance on head bowing BNP-Jamaat government.

When all the unthinkable was happening with Indian unilateral decision only few miles from Bangladesh soil, two successive government, Khaleda-Nizami and Iazuddin-Fokhruddin failed to raise the issue with India and failed to inform people of Bangladesh about its danger.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government had already started bilateral talks with Indian counter part on Tipaimukh project. Government has rightly decided to form two-examination committee. Out of this two committee, one will comprise all party parliamentarians and the other will include technical experts. Both committees will visit proposed Tipaimukh Hydro Eclectic project as fact finding mission, from there report Bangladesh will make its case on how to place Bangladesh interest on Indian unilateral decision on Tipaimukh hydro electric project.

Interestingly, Khaleda-Nizami alliance government all off a sadden wakeup from their deep sleep and trying to  make some buzz ward for political reason against Tipaimukh project, the project that they gave secret green signal to Indian authority in 2003 selling the interest of Bangladesh for mere political gain.

The nation still vividly remembers, Khaleda Zia led her delegation to India on 26 to 28 May of 1992 to talk to her counter part P.V. Noroshima Rao then Indian Prime Minister. During this trip she forgot to raise the question about not getting due shares of water from Farraka Barrage. After coming back from the tour India , facing criticism from press then Prime Minister Khaleda Zia acknowledged that she forgot to raise the question with her Indian apart.

This is extremely sad for people of Bangladesh that Prime Minister Khaleda Zia can forget to raise a life and death question with Indian authority. Interestingly while Khaleda Zia forgot to raise the Farakka issue she signed a treaty with Indian government on June 26 1992 on Tinbigha corridor for 999 years lease. We know among many other problems Tinbigha is one of the thorns between India-Bangladesh relations, Khaleda getting a chance to be in power for three times could not resolve it.

We as a nation must find all facts about Tipaimukh Hydro Electric Multipurpose project before interest of Bangladesh is dashed out one more time. We must stand as a nation and not allow India to erect anything, which will be against the interest of Bangladesh . However, to do that we must first learn about all if and but about Tipaimukh project. I hope Khaleda Zia will disclose all facts about Tipaimukh projects and her government's actions and deeds with Indian government during her last stay in government 2001-2006. Nation need to know if there was any secret deal with Khaleda-Nizami, alliance government in 2003 before Indian government gave the final authorization on this project and formed The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (neepco).Shamim Chowdhury's argument below to blame BNP for the Tipaimukh dam instead of India is at best politically motivated. He says:

"It is obscure to believe India did not informed (sic) Bangladesh about their Tipaimukh project, therefore there is a possibility that BNP-Jamaat alliance gave a secret green signal to go ahead with this illegal unilateral decision and India took a chance on head bowing BNP-Jamaat government."

How can he be sure when he is just assuming. He says "there is a possibility. " How does Shamin Chowdhury know it was a "head bowing BNP-Jamaat government."

At least 20 employees of Proshika were injured on their way to office yesterday in separate attacks carried out in Mirpur by hired men of the NGO's expelled chief Qazi Faruque Ahmed.

Mohammad Abdur Rob, director of microcredit programme of Proshika's new management, however claimed that around 50 Proshika employees sustained injuries in the attacks.

Two of the severely injured were admitted to city's Samarita Hospital and others to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

The employees said the attackers were mostly unknown faces.

They alleged that police played a silent role during the attacks. "So many people would not have been hurt had the police played due role," said Lutfunnessa Helen, senior programme officer of Proshika.

Senior Accounts Coordinator of the NGO Md Alauddin alleged that Faruque's followers including former Proshika employees Nargis Jahan Banu, Abu Sayeed, Arun Saha, Rita, Sheikh Shahid and Dulal Chandra Dey moved to Proshika office from the Mirpur section-6 kitchen market under police protection.

Talking to The Daily Star yesterday, Qazi Faruque said his men would continue the "agitation" until they take over the office.

He claimed himself to be the legal chairman of the NGO. "I became chairman of Proshika at the AGM [annual general meeting] held on June 6. I got 39 out of 55 votes," he said.

Faruque, meanwhile, suffered a heart attack around 1:00pm yesterday and was admitted to National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh at Mirpur.

Proshika's Senior Accounts Coordinator Md Alauddin said Faruque's men had been waiting at the Mirpur section-6 kitchen market, Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium at Mirpur-10 and other points around 7:00am. "They injured at least four employees on their way to office at that time," he said.

Later, the criminals took position near the Proshika office at Mirpur section-10 and attacked employees including women with sticks and brickbats when they were entering the office. They broke open the concrete boundary wall near gate no-1 of the Proshika office and other points.

Proshika employees also took position in front of the main entry and on the rooftop and retaliated the attacks with brickbats.

Habibur Rahman, an employee of the NGO, said he was going to office from Tongi when attackers waiting near the stadium swooped on him all on a sudden. "I recognised Afzal Sayeed, who was recently dismissed from Proshika, but rest of the goons were unfamiliar," he said.

"We informed the police immediately after our injured colleagues arrived at the office but the law enforcers did not show up in two hours," Habib said.

"The police arrived at the scene around 10:00am but the criminals continued their attacks in their presence," he said. "The police remained silent until the media arrived."

Proshika's Senior Programme Officer Anwarul Azim was found bleeding from the nose and lying unconscious on the first floor of the Proshika office. His colleagues could not take him to hospital fearing attacks outside.

Injured Azizul Haq, a central coordinator of Proshika, and Nazibul Haq were also languishing in severe pain at the NGO office.

A female employee from Moghbazar area reached the office at 9:30am. She said, "All hell broke loose around the Proshika office within minutes I entered the office." She also accused police of arriving late at the scene and remaining silent.

However, Chowdhury Monjurul Kabir, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, who is in additional charge of DMP Mirpur zone, said, "The situation would have been worse had the police not played its role."

Replying to a question, he said police did not arrest anybody in connection with yesterday's incident.

THE EXPELLED CHIEF
The governing body of Proshika, a leading NGO with 220 offices across the country and more than 5,000 employees, removed Qazi Faruque on May 24 and appointed advocate Abdul Wadud as the organisation's chairman.

Faruque filed a case with the first assistant judge's court on May 27 challenging the decision but the court rejected the petition on May 31. Faruque filed an appeal with the district judge's court on June 1, which was also rejected on June 6. He then filed a civil revision case with the High Court, which is scheduled to hear the case today.

Qazi Faruque unleashed yesterday's attacks in apprehension of losing the legal battle again, said Modasser Hossain of Proshika's education programme.

Chief executive of Proshika's newly formed management Mahbub Ul Karim said he had told the police of his apprehension of possible attacks by Faruque's men.

Faruque along with his son Rubayet Ahmed proceeded with a procession of around 40 men at 12 noon.

Wearing a helmet, Faruque was instructing his men to break open gate-2 of the Proshika office and enter. Employees of the NGO started pelting brickbats at the attackers from the rooftop. The mob got dispersed immediately while Faruque was running for a cover.

Around 1:00pm, Faruque was learnt to have suffered a heart attack and get admitted to National Heart Foundation.

Duty doctor Shajia Afrin at the hospital's coronary care unit said the state of Qazi Faruque was stable following a primary angioplasty. She said Faruque had reported with a heart attack because of a block in the heart.

Modasser Hossain of Proshika's education programme said they spent the last two Fridays at the office to protect the organisation from possible attacks by Faruque's men.

"Most of the attackers were hired goons and local slum dwellers, including teenage youths and even children who cannot be Proshika employees in any way," he said.

Some 300 men took part in the attacks. They include former Proshika employees Nargis Jahan Banu, Rubayet Ahmed, Dulal Dey, Afzal Hossain, Sheikh Shahid, Abu Sayeed, Arun Saha, Khadiza Siddiqa Rita, Anwar Hossain, Jalal Uddin, Mohibul Alam, Fouzia Khanam, Dasharath, Abul Bashar, Abdul Jabbar and former Proshika central coordinator Fazlul Haq.

Nargis Jahan, a former director and one of the close aides to Faruque, said, "We just wanted to take possession of the office, we did not hurt anyone."

Re: [ALOCHONA] Re: BNP should also wipe out reformists.

Dear Ezajur,

What a great reading ability you have got !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have i asked  for Mannan gongs to  unconditional and blind loyalty or i have critized them for being so ?

We have to make sure that army is not involved in any civilian affairs, particularly national election. If army is involved in national election, then AL will try to make it pro-AL, BNP will try to make it pro-BNP. This will have destructive effect like  freezing-thawing on our army

Dear Alochok Mahathir

You are more concerned about the guts of your 'so called' reformists than the guts of those who should be 'real' reformists. According to you no reform is required, you don't want it or expect it. Thats why you don't demand reform of BNP. And thats why you have never questioned anything about Khaleda or Tariq.

You think that Manan and the rest should be blindly and unconditionally loyal to Khaleda and Tariq.

How sad it is to see BNP activists complain more about Manan than Khaleda - well more like NEVER about Khaleda!

You will have your way. The so called reformists only became such after extreme violence and blackmail. Now Khaleda and Hasina will replace old guard blind followers with a new guard of blind followers.

And in Bangladesh - only in Bangladesh - the word reformist becomes a swear word.

Re: [ALOCHONA] BNP should also wipe out reformists.

It is stupidity to make comment against the comment  of educated(??????????????) intellectual who got fire in his body  seeing my call for wiping out so called backbone  less opportunist(reformist) who did not dare to open mouth  neither against khaleda hasina , nor against Moeen - fakhruddin .

What ever I could understand from your  long periods of writes up, I think BNP should replace you in all the posts ( such as General secretary, president ...and....all....) thus you can reform the party as like as your GOD father Bloody and nasty Tarek Zia.  You man, do you know the difference between illiterate and educated people?? Do you know the difference between democracy and autocracy?? Are you really literate??  By the way, dont think only reading and writing capability is the definition of literacy???  What did the BAL in the council? Was it a council?  Is this democracy?? You are supporting and wishing to be happening in BNP too. Nasty and rotten!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! !!!!!  Criticism  is very important for every sector. But,  what are you doing????

Those people who became so called reformist  duringt he two year rules of  Moeen controlled Fakhruddin govt, made no sound against Khaleda adn hasina. Dr. Maqsud

Speaking of morons you need to be one to know one!

Nothing wrong with smoking ganja, there is always a 50 -50 chance it will open your mind ! The problem my friend is with the genious whose minds are totally fossilized yet think they are self important. Even ganja has no chance here!

Hasina and family's lifelong security

http://www.newagebd.com/2009/aug/01/oped.html#4

The expatriate who objects to the full security offered to Hasina and her family (July 30) fails to understand the importance of this family. Without this family there would be no Bangladesh, the Awami League would be in chaos and this government would collapse. This family, and all its descendants, must be given full security to ensure the sovereign integrity of Bangladesh, the unity of Awami League and the stability of the Bangladesh government.

[mukto-mona] FW: Mosharraf In Supreme Court Again--Asia Post editorial dated 1.8.09

Mosharraf In Supreme Court Again

Pakistani lawyers called Thursday for Pervez Musharraf to face trial despite the country’s top judge appearing to rule out
initiating a case of treason against the former military ruler.  The Supreme Court, headed by recently reinstated Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, is listening to an investigation into Musharraf’s imposition of emergency rule that saw dozens of judges sacked two years ago.
The court said notice had been issued for Musharraf to appear in person or through a lawyer, but the ex-president ignored the summons — attending neither in person nor through counsel at sessions on Wednesday and Thursday.  ‘He (Musharraf) suspended the constitution and the judiciary. All steps he took were to keep himself in power,’ senior lawyer Hamid Khan told the court. ‘All his actions should be declared null and void, and he should be declared a usurper,’ he said. Fellow senior lawyer Akram Sheikh asked the court to refer its investigation of general Musharraf to
Pakistan’s powerful army for court martial.  ‘They are demanding Musharraf’s trial under article six of the constitution, which relates to ‘abrogation or subversion’ of the constitution and calls for him to face trial for ‘high treason’,’ senior lawyer Khawaja Haris said. But the chief justice, who is yet to conclude the probe into the declaration of emergency rule, backed away from pursuing Musharraf in the courts. ‘We should draw a line between what he has done as army chief and what he has done as president,’ Chaudhry told the court. ‘We have to proceed very carefully... We are not here to destroy anything. We are here to stabilise everything,’ he said.

This is called turn of history.Mosharraf did every illegal thing possible for him in his different capacities. The worst was his dealing with the constitution ( its suspension to suit his purpose ) and his dealing with the judges, sacking about sisty judges of the higher courts. However the Chief Justice has shown no agitation and has decided to proceed  properly undet law.Musharraf should get the punishment due for him as a lesson for such people in Pakistan and elsewhere .In Bangladesh also we have a lesson in this.
