Rogue politics of Bangladesh ex Prime Minister

by Preeta Memon
Khaleda Zia, the widow of Bangladesh's former military ruler Ziaur Rahman though seen as the next Prime Minister of the country, with her party winning in the general election of 2014, Indian intelligence sources have identified a number of her recent efforts, which not only are extremely unfavourable to the national interest of Bangladesh, but in most cases, are even devastating for the nation. In past seven months, she travelled to Saudi Arabia twice under the disguise of performing Umrah pilgrimage at Mecca, had been particularly aimed at convincing Saudis in expelling approximately two million Bangladeshi workers from that country, with various allegations. Indian intelligence sources claim that the recent decision of the Saudi authorities in sending back half-million Bangladeshi workers is a partial respond to the plea of Khaleda Zia, who enjoys special affection in Saudi Royal family.
Khaleda-Tarique meeting:
During last month's Saudi tour, the former Prime Minister of Bangladeshi and leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) met her self-exiled eldest son Tarique Rahman in Jeddah, who travelled from London to meet the mother. During the meeting, Khaleda Zia signalled nominating Tarique in the next general election in one of the parliamentary constituencies in Bangladesh and assured him returning to the country, once Bangladesh Nationalist Party is able winning the election.
Tarique Rahman runs businesses in United Arab Emirates and London through third parties and has been living luxurious life in London with his wife and children. He holds secret bank account with Singapore based OCBC Bank as well as banks in United Arab Emirates and United Kingdom through some of his aides. Indian intelligence agencies indicate Tarique Rahman of having significant amount of money in all of the secret bank accounts.
Koko's fabulous wealth in Malaysia:
Youngest son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, Arafat Rahman Koko, who also is on self-exile in Malaysia to avert legal consequences is running multiple business ventures in Kuala Lumpur and other cities in Malaysia and has been living luxurious life with his wife and children. Koko's name came as the top culprit behind several bribe scams, including WorldTel and Naiko, wherefrom he received huge sum of money as bribe in exchange of special favor from his mother's government. Arafat Rahman Koko became extremely infamous in Bangladesh similarly as his elder brother Tarique Rahman, who had been engaged in ruthless corruption and looting of public wealth during the 2001-2006 rule of Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
Saudi offer for Khaleda Zia:
During the recent past meeting of Bangladeshi former Prime Minister, the Saudi authorities reportedly suggested her to stay in Riyadh for couple of years for treatment of her knees, while the Saudis also told Khaleda Zia that her sons would also be allowed to stay in Saudi Arabia, if she would agree to go for a short pause in her political career. She also was told that the ruling party in Bangladesh were determined in convicting her along with her sons in a number of corruption charges, including the Zia Charitable Trust scam. Khaleda Zia refused the Saudi offer stating her party would be in power "soon", which would be "much before the scheduled election", and the ruling party "won't have sufficient time to push the trials towards conviction".
Rogue policy of Khaleda Zia:
According to Indian intelligence agencies, Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman played vital role behind the August 21 grenade attack at the rally of Bangladesh Awami League with the nefarious goal of assassinating Sheikh Hasina. The grenade attack conspiracy took place at the residence of a junior minister of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party led government, which was attended by Tarique Rahman and some other top officials of the country. The junior minister was assigned main role in implementing the blue-print, as Tarique Rahman strongly believed assassinating Sheikh Hasina would create uninterrupted opportunity for Bangladesh Nationalist Party in continuing in office for indefinite period.
ULFA connection of Khaleda Zia:
Khaleda Zia's anti-Indian policy had prompted her in adopting policies in extending logistic and otherwise supports to various separatist groups from India, including United Liberation Front of Assom. ULFA leaders had been accorded safe shelter within Bangladeshi soil, while anti-Indian Islamic terrorist groups were also provided supports from the Khaleda Zia government.
During the rule of Ziaur Rahman, due to his anti-Indian stand, Indian high commissioner in Bangladesh, Muchkund Dubey was stopped and humiliated in a street in Dhaka by the intelligence agencies at the directives of Zia. In the public meetings, Ziaur Rahman had been spreading venom of hatred against India.
Next Mission of Khaleda Zia:
Following couple of visits to Saudi Arabia and subsequent partial success in convincing the Saudi authorities in expelling Bangladeshi workers, which would put tremendous pressure on the ruling Bangladesh Awami League – she now is preparing for Beijing and Washington tours with some agendas of using American and Chinese influences in putting extended pressure on the government in Dhaka. Her political aides have also sought help from Grameen Bank founder Dr. Yunus is setting few important meetings for Khaleda Zia with US politicians and policymakers. Similarly, pro-Chinese block within Bangladesh Nationalist Part are actively pursuing Chinese diplomatic contacts in Dhaka in finalizing meetings for Khaleda Zia with key-figures in Beijing. Indian intelligence agency sources feel that the Bangladesh ex Prime Minister may go for these trips during October-December 2012. Khaleda Zia's aides are also contacting mainstream media in United States with the hope of getting her substantial media coverage. Khaleda Zia is expected to be interviewed by a number of US newspapers and television channels during her forthcoming trip.

Poverty is a curse.  True.  No one caused it, is not.  No one will lift it, is not either.  In the past, geopolitical situation has raised millions out of poverty.  Besides, Dr. Roy, your pro-republican bias  does not mix with anti-religious stance.  I hope you have noticed it.  Unregulated capitalism has made the bankers rich and bankrupted the institutions which created wealth.  Should you defend the people who earn five times more bonus than salary (which might be as much as fifteen times as yours).  If you should, that would be a manifestation of an identity crisis.

"Are you better off now than 4 years ago?"   This is a question raised by that old demented presidential candidate named Ronald Regan against the peanut vendor one term President Carter.  Regan's lack of comprehension was legendary.  He, during one of his campaign speech, blamed China for having bombed Pearl Harbor.  Republicans ask for less Government and ask for bail out when in trouble The economic mess that the republicans have created would need a Stalin to cure.  "Poverty is a curse, and it is individual's responsibility to lift it. No one caused it or no one will lift it for anybody. This is half truth at best.  Not even the leading Capitalists with a bit of common sense would subscribe to such ideas.

Hello Dr. Jafforullah,

How have you been? Long time no talk. Boy, you are a seasonal bird; you only sing in the election season. Yes, I remember our exchanges before the last election cycle 4 years back. Time flies fast. Let me ask you, my friend - "Are you better off now than 4 years ago?"

Sorry, I know, we are not friend, not enemy either; just happen to belong to two different camps. I am for a smaller government; you are for a bigger one. I am for capitalism, you are for socialism. But, we are not a rival – are we? If not, why do you need derogatory terms to make your point?

The fact is - I am not as partisan as you are. So, I won't compete with you for political nonsense. You can go ahead and elect your president. I did not support him last time, and it will not be any different this time. I knew then – he was not the right doctor for the kind of disease the country was suffering from. And I was right.

He did not cure the disease. How could he? His expertise is in a totally different field, so he has prescribed a wrong medicine. Can dentist fix your heart problem? Definitely not, but – politically ignorant mass were impressed by his sweet-talks and promises for the cure.

Here we are 4 years later; problem is still here, and our sweet-talking leader is back with a different rhetoric. First time he was for uniting everybody, now he wants to divide - rich vs. middle-class and the poor. It seems like – politically ignorant people will again go for the promises, instead of seeking alternate therapy. I knew it 4 years back, when I called him – the pied piper of USA.

The fact is - I do not like sweet-talking politicians, who come right before elections and stand before the cheering naive crowd and through some political rhetoric, such as - I am for the poor, and feel your pain, etc., etc., and the crowd is moved with tears. After that - their condition becomes worse year after year.

I am not indebted to anybody. I want to change the doctor. I want results, not sweet-talk and excuses. I want cure, not promises. If you can't do it get out of the way. This is my view. If naive Americans did not learn anything during the last 4 years, they will get what they deserve in the next 4 years. This will not affect me significantly in either way. Let them have a test of the third world country. Please refer to the Rush Limbaugh quote below.

As for myself, by your grace, this country has given me much more than I deserve, and I am quite successful in what I do. Thank you very much for inquiring about it. I love this country very much, and I want its continued success.

As for me being a king, it's all about perception. Money can help somewhat, but the real king-maker is the perception of being a king. I have seen many rich people leading very simple life; they are not king. When I was a student in Dhaka University, there were many days when I did not know where my lunch money will come from, but - never thought of myself as a poor fellow. I thought of it as a temporary hurdle, which I need to overcome at that moment. I did not blame anybody for my economic hardship. In my book, there is no pride being poor. Poverty is a curse, and it is individual's responsibility to lift it. No one caused it or no one will lift it for anybody. Yes, I know many places it cannot be done due to lack of opportunity. But, you cannot say that in the USA. I laugh at those who blame rich for their poverty and distress. If you blame others for being poor here, you will forever remain poor. Rich and poor go through more or less the same system. When I came here, I had $150 in my pocket. I did not know anybody; nobody gave me a lift; I had to earn all I have.

Also, I do not believe you that can help the poor, by destroying the rich. They did not make someone poor, no matter what your party politics dictates you. That's why - I love Lincoln's quotes so much. I know many of us are allergic to those quotes. As a result, the moment I circulated those quotes, they started to protest. Those are the proverbial partisan-political ideologues. I know they do not like to hear the truth for the sake of their political ideology.

As for answering to your party talking-points: Republicans are party of rich, and Democrats are party for poor, I will refer you to the Lincoln quotes below.

Thank you so much for facilitating me to vent myself. I feel much better now.

Jiten Roy

I am beginning to doubt the veracity of Abe Lincoln's comment which was posted in another thread by a blind supporter of Rush Limbaugh.

I fully agree with Farida Majid on Ronald Reagan. Reagan maybe a hero to millions of illiterate Americans but beneath his Hollywood demeanor he was a dimwitted politician. He made deals with Iran's Khomeini begging them not to release the American Embassy hostages before Nov 1980 election. He intentionally jacked up the interest to 12-14% so that his rich Southern California friends can loan the U.S. Federal government the money to cover the deficit. He blamed the Democrats for expanding the government and he promised to American voters that if he is elected, he will shrink the government but look what he did. He made the government big, infused money into Pentagon, and consequently ballooning the Federal budget. Of course, Reagan's rich friends were there to loan the money to the government because they purchased those bonds getting 12-14% return annually. How clever of Reagan to help out his rich friends!!!

Republican Party is for the upper income people. I hope this Rush Limbaughite in this forum is a rich guy rubbing shoulder with Bush, Romney, etc. He is more Royal than the King and more Pious than the Pope.

Is he not the same person who predicted the demise of Obama candidacy in 2008 in this forum? Talk about the shame? This headless Republican lover has none.

> The U.S. presidential election is less than 60 days from now. Both the Tampa and Charlotte conventions are history now. In a new Reuters/Ipsos poll released today (September 8, 2012) Obama-Biden ticket is gaining popularity among American voters despite a disappointing job growth stat published a day ago. A majority of American voters now agree that the job growth will be anemic going forward notwithstanding an economic meltdown brought on by George W. Bush's presidency in 2008. The tax code favored by Republicans since 2000 has helped the greedy rich at the expense of the middle class and poor folks. Americans are now cognizance of this truth and they don't want to put a Wall Street vulture by the name Mitt Romney to the White House.  This is the same guy who does not want to pay a fair tax. Some even say he is a tax dodger.
> In my view, as election time nears, more and more American voters of independent streak would side with the Democrats and will defeat the God-fearing Republicans. > In 2008, a small but vocal minority of Mukto-Mona forum opposed the candidacy of Obama by falsely thinking that Obama was a closet Muslim.  Obama's middle name gave them a jolt. One of the M-M forum-goers even made some boastful comment to the effect that his American friends in New York City have told him that a black man is unelectable for the highest political position. How wrong was he?
> I am very surprised that these folks are very quiet these days. One of them is however very critical of Michelle Obama.

> All the other first ladies of last thirty years such as Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush, Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, etc. were all dolled up never venturing out in the backyard of White House. But Michelle Obama is a different breed who dance to hear own tune. She is pushing for changing the food habits of grade school students. Her initiatives to feed the students more vegetables and fruits have been hailed by many nutritionists. Thus, she has a vision for America. Contrast this, if you will, with the demeanor of Anne Romney whose hobby is dressage (an equestrian sport of yesteryears). There is no comparison between Michelle Obama and Anne Romney, really. They exist in different realm!  One is a working mother and the other is a sheltered rich housewife. One is a visionary like her husband and the other is a dull housewife.
> I think since it is the season of presidential politics in America, Mukto-Mona forum-goers should discuss endlessly who they support and why they support one candidate over the other.
> All the poll results thus far indicate that Obama may beat Romney but there is no guarantee.  Political wind may change very fast.  Debate performance, economic data, etc. may have a profound impact on election results.  Therefore, do not pay much attention to what I write here.  Give your opinion and make this forum rich with your erudite remarks.

[mukto-mona] Fw: Re: Fw: [Dahuk]: Sunil molested me:Taslima

Hi all
I have seen many people alleging that Taslima Nasrin's writing caused communal violence in India and Bangladesh. Recently it has come out again on this topic, people are blaming her for all those and also making news every time by writing about her experiences. Can anyone please shed some light on me on the topic of correlation between Taslima's writing and communcal violence?

regards

Swakkhar

Re: [mukto-mona] Turkish Abortion Debate Renewed After Nevin Yildirim Beheads Alleged Rapist

Rape is ninety nine percent violence.  No rapist can do it to the same 'victim' without her tacit approval.  There is a famous book entitled, "The hazards in being born a male".  In it their is a chapter, "The wisdom of Penis", where the author insists that the male organ would lose erection if the female partner lacks the wish.

In sexual encounters among a man and a woman, the first signal is delivered by the female brain, the scientists say.  I hate to deliver the details.  Consider the brain as the most important organ in such encounters.

If she had no wish to be 'violated', how could the guy repeat the offence?  A murder might have been committed to eliminate the voice of the 'offender.

When state does not protect or defend your human rights, the victim may take law into her hands. By doing this the victim further endangers herself or himself. But it is good for the society as the society gets a jolt and makes it rethink about the laws it has.

A 26-year-old Turkish woman, who was impregnated by her rapist, reportedly shot and beheaded her alleged attacker to protect her honor. The case has forced the country into a new round in the intensifying debate over abortion.
Nevin Yildirim, a mother of two from Turkey's Yalvac district, faces charges of murder for the August killing of 35-year-old Nurettin Gider. Yildirim, according to CNN, is at least five months pregnant and claims she was rape-impregnated by Gider.
Yildirim told police that Gider, a father of two who was married to her husband's aunt, first raped her in January, when her husband left town to work a seasonal job.
Yildirim said Gider threatened to kill her children if she alerted anyone to the crime. The rapes allegedly continued over the course of the next several months and Gider reportedly threatened to publish photos he took of Yildirim's pregnant body if she did not do as he said, Turkish broadcaster DHA reported.
On Aug. 28, Yildirim claims spotted Gider climbing up a wall behind her house and grabbed a rifle that was hanging on the wall.
"I knew he was going to rape me again," Yildirim said at an Aug. 30 preliminary hearing.
Yildirim allegedly shot Gider twice and chased him from her property. She claimed in court he was armed at the time.
"He fell on the ground. He started cussing," she said. "I shot his sexual organ this time. He became quiet. I knew he was dead. I then cut his head off."
Witnesses told police they saw Yildirim walk into the village square, carrying Gider's bloody head by his hair.
"Don't talk behind my back, don't play with my honor," Yildirim allegedly told witnesses in the square as she threw Gider's head to the ground. "Here is the head of the man who played with my honor."
Authorities arrived on the scene shortly thereafter and Yildirim was taken into custody without incident.
"He kept saying that he would tell everyone [about the rape]," Yildirim told authorities, according to Doğan News Agency. "My daughter will start school this year. Everyone would have insulted my children. Now no one can."
"I saved my honor," she added. "They will now call [her children] 'the kids of the women who saved her honor.'"
According to CNN, Yildirim went to a health clinic for an abortion prior to the murder but was turned away because she was 14 weeks pregnant at the time. In Turkey, abortion is only permitted during the first 10 weeks of pregnancy. Anything beyond that requires a special circumstance.
Turkey's abortion debate has now been re-kindled as the public prosecutor's office considers Yildirim's request. Authorities are waiting for experts to weigh in on her mental stability.
"The extremity of Nevin's actions show the extent of the trauma the rape has caused," Dr. Gürsel Öztunalı Kayır, Foundation for Women's Solidarity, told International Business Times. "We shouldn't be distracted by the murder; if she wants to have an abortion following months of abuse, she should have the right."
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, however, considers abortion "murder" and wants the practice outlawed. Melih Gökçek, mayor of the capital, Ankara, supports the proposed ban, saying a mother who considers abortion should "kill herself instead and not let the child bear the brunt of her mistake," IBT reported.
Women's groups in Turkey consider Yildirim a heroine. The case also resonates in the United States, where abortion remains a topic of heated debate.
