Yes, it is an idea but it is totally flawed. The interest rate is the core issue for any bank. You simply can't have both ways. If Grameen becomes a totally donor funded non-profitable entity and manages the endowment (donor capital) as a hedge against the non repayment of loans, only then it can give loans to poor people for lesser than 5% interest. Otherwise, there is no difference between Micro or Macro loans. An average 25% interest loan is simply not good for any business. Dr. Yuonus has given many lectures but he can't provide a good answer to the interest problem.  If the idea is not working, then it needs to be modified. Why not talk about that?

Lets be blunt here with Dr. Younus's creation of Grameen Bank. It is a Bank, stupid! The math is truly troubling but our Islamist brothers and sisters are only going for his good Mohammed name... even though Islam is against all forms of interest on a capital. Hypocrisy? Greetings from Australia,

I used to think that Prof Yunus only deserves credit for micro financing which perhaps is not such a big deal at all. Recently Prof Yunus was visiting Brisbane as the local prestigious Griffith University has added a new department for social business and has named it after Prof Yunus. I had the good fortune to attend Prof Yunus's lecture - Three Zeroes - the hall was packed. His delivery of speech was spontaneous and gentle and His English was of the highest quality. I get embarrassed listening to both our lady leaders speak in English but Prof Yunus - every Bangladeshi had his heart swollen in pride so fine was his delivery, every Muslim was content that someone with the name of Mohammad was delivering such a power speech. Prof Yunus alone improves the image of Bangladesh which our leaders cannot even imagine. Despite direct questioning he spoke in favor of people in power in Bangladesh who try so much to harm him.

He is a very rare global hero whose unthinkable works will forever be etched in the memory of billions of folks worldwide. He says lending money is not charity. This is business: business with a social objective, which is to help people get out of poverty," He says "Charity only perpetuates poverty by taking the initiative away from the poor." Prof Yunus said one way to do that is to help them explore and use their own capability. Human being full of capacity, full of capability, is a wonderful creation." He once said, "In my experience, poor people are the world's greatest entrepreneurs. Every day, they must innovate in order to survive. They remain poor because they do not have the opportunities to turn their creativity into sustainable income." This man has unbelievably redefined poverty, and refuted the capitalist school of thought on poverty. He has given self respect and self esteem back to the poor.

As I mentioned, Griffith University has established " Yunus Centre" for social business. Olympic 2024 has adopted Professor Yunus's three zeros as the Olympic theme. Globally people respect Prof Yunus. We are lucky that he was born in our soil, May Almighty Allah bless Prof Yunus with good health so he can continue to do the good work.

Thank you,

Fatima

Dr Fatima Ashrafi

We heard such stories before. There may or may not be any truth in it. Bill and Hillary Clintons were great fans of Dr. Yunus' innovative Grameen Bank concept. As such, they became his friends. It is thus possible the Clintons supported Dr. Yunus' Nobel nomination. I believe Nobel is a serious matter and I doubt it is awarded at someone's whims and fancies, even though at times political considerations over weigh some decisions on "Peace" category.

According to some source, Dr. Yunus was a contender for Nobel for sometime in Economics. But the Nobel authorities were finding difficulty, for whatever reasons, to put him that category and kept postponing it. Finally, they decided to award the Nobel to him and his GB in the Peace category in 2006.

However Dr. Yunus received his Nobel, it is a prided for Bangladesh and should be treated as such.

Thank you,

Fatima

Both Clintons are proven liars and were caught red handed many times for their blunt lies including Clinton having an extramarital affair with Monica and Hillary coming under artillery fire in Iraq. It is not surprising that Clintons lobbied peace price committee for a quid pro quo from Dr. Younus. Dr. Younus has never published any scholarly article in any peer reviewed Economical journals for his scholarly thoughts and findings. Because he knew, his thoughts are not really publishable materials. And, obviously he was never been a candidate for a real Economic Nobel price. So, peace price was the only avenue open for Clintons to lobby and get Grameen money in Clitons' pocket. It is an absurd idea to contemplate... how could a Grameen loan could charge 22-30% interest from poor Bangladeshi ladies and farmers and alleviate their poverty? The math never made any sense. Even regular credit card interest with no collateral are far lesser than 20%. Dr. Younus can lecture about Grameen magic to some of his friendly audiences but he would never be able to answer how could Grameen bank formula is sustainable without a big donor like Bill Gates/Warren Buffet not standing as a collateral for the Grameen loans? Lets be blunt here with Dr. Younus's creation of Grameen Bank. It is a Bank, stupid! The math is truly troubling but our Islamist brothers and sisters are only going for his good Mohammed name... even though Islam is against all forms of interest on a capital. Hypocrisy? Yes, you guessed it right!
