Very interesting observation. This "Expert" has fans all over the world...

Salahuddin Shoaib Choudhury is still in our hearts

We should congratulate our fearless journalist Salahuddin for going to Israel and sharing his genuine concern about religious fanaticism in BD. Surely Israel does not know anything about religious fanaticism.

I am a little confused about our "Hero" journalist. He was working for well known anti-liberation warmonger in "Inqilab" groups { Of Maulana Mannan}. Which also tried to spread propaganda for "Butcher of Baghdad" Saddam Hussain for some time. Then he became best friend of Israel and the US. Then his "Love affair" with Dr. Belkin ended and "Respected Dr. Belkin" called his stories "Bogus". I want to be proud of this fellow Bangladeshi but I am left confused. Anyone want to clear it up for "Less informed" people like myself?

Shalom.

Alarming rise of Tablighi Jamaat

by Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury
Last week annual congregation of Tablighi Jamaat took place in Bangladesh and for the first time since secularist Bangladesh Awami League formed government in 2009 in Bangladesh, now the Tablighis have announced to hold the congregation in two phases with a pause of four days instead of single congregation, which has been taking places since past few decades. Reason behind such enhancement of congregation period is due to tremendous increase in number of attendees in the Tablighi congregation, which has already crossed two million.
Tablighi Jamaat [TJ], a fanatic Muslim organization, which is already known in the world as one of the instigating elements of Jihad and terrorism is not only spreading its wings in South Asia, but it is also gradually gaining strength in a number of Western countries, including United States and United Kingdom. It is also alleged that, Tablighi congregation and activities of this suspected outfit is funded and sponsored by several Islamist militant groups such as Al Qaeda, Hamaas, Lakhkar-e-Taiba etc.
The Tablighi Jamaat [Group for Preaching] movement was established in Mewat, India, in 1927 and stems from the Deobandi brand of the Hanafi Sunni school of jurisprudence. Deobandi is the most commonly practiced form of Islam in South Asia, and TJ is but a small subset of the larger Deobandi community. TJ was designed to be an apolitical, pietistic organization that sends missionaries across the globe on proselytizing missions intended to bring wayward Muslims back to more orthodox practices of Islam. TJ followers [Tablighis] are mostly of South Asian origin, though there are Tablighis from many different ethnic and national backgrounds. In fact, TJ operates in 150 countries and has an estimated 70 million to 80 million active followers, making it the largest Muslim movement in the world. Its annual gatherings in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh reportedly bring together the largest congregations of Muslims in the world outside of the Hajj. The group's stated mission is to work at a grassroots level, reaching out to Muslims across the social and economic spectrum. Tablighis do not solicit or receive donations, but rather are largely funded by senior members. It is also alleged that The TJ organization also serves as a de facto conduit for Islamist extremists and for groups such as al Qaeda to recruit new members.
At face value, TJ is a peaceful, egalitarian and devotional movement that stresses individual faith and overall spiritual development. In a sense, TJ is a widespread training system that urges average Muslims to examine their own lives and become involved in calling their fellow Muslims back to orthodox Islam. Because of TJ's tactics, some Islamist groups refer to its members as "Muslim Jehovah's Witnesses" and accuse them of abandoning politics and jihad. Upon joining the movement, Tablighi recruits are given the option of attending the Tablighi center in the Pakistani city of Raiwind, near Lahore, Pakistan, for four months of additional religious training to equip them to preach the Tablighi message.
It is important to understand that TJ is a loosely controlled mass movement rather than a centralized group, as some would maintain. Although TJ operates mosques, it has no fixed membership and Tablighis are free to leave the movement. The mosques are used to support the efforts of the independent jamaat [groups of 10 preachers] that undertake preaching missions. The type of work performed and the duration of that work are left solely to the discretion and conscience of the individual jamaat. Some jamaat choose to serve a short period of time while others preach for months or even years. Although TJ is Deobandi, it allows any Sunni Muslim to join in its missionary work as long as that person accepts the group's austere creed.
Because of the large number of South Asian Muslims in the United Kingdom, TJ is very strong in that country. The Tablighi-run Markazi Mosque in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, is the group's European headquarters. The organization's strength in Britain was demonstrated in 2007 when it announced plans to construct an 18-acre mosque complex in STRATFORd, East London, on a site near the 2012 Olympic Park. According to some reports, the new complex would have a capacity of up to 70,000 people, making it the largest religious building in the United Kingdom and the largest mosque in Europe. The construction of such an enormous mosque has raised some concerns and more than a bit of controversy among the British people.
The organization, however, also has a presence in most other European countries, while French authorities have claimed that 80 percent of the radical Islamists they have encountered have had some sort of contact with the TJ movement.
In the United States, the FBI believes some 50,000 people are associated with Tablighi Jamaat missions, while Tablighi mosques currently operate in several U.S. states, including California, Texas and New York. The Al-Falah Mosque in the Corona area of Queens, N.Y., apparently is the group's North American headquarters.
With the rise and expansion of Tablighi Jamaat in the world, particularly in South Asia, there is disturbing news of rise of a Jihadist outfit in Bangladesh named Hizbut Towhid. According to vernacular daily newspaper The Manabzamin, a group of Hizbut Towhid activists attacked an anti-Jihad rally at Uzirpur village on January 25, 2011. It may be mentioned here that, Hizbut Towhid members are actively spreading Jihadist notion in Bangladeshi society for years under the leadership of one Bayejid Khan Panni alias Selim Panni. During such instigative activities, villagers at Uzirpur brought out a demonstration procession against the pro-Jihadist propaganda of Hizbut Towhid and demanding immediate banning of this outfit. Hearing the news of such procession, Hizbut Towhid members attacked the rally of the villagers with lethal weapons thus injuring a few dozens of people. Following this attack, though police arrested a few members of this notorious group, there was no action taken against the main kingpin of Hizbut Towhid for reason unknown.
For the sake of global peace, it is extremely important not only to check the activities of any pro-Jihadist group or organization in the world. Massive expansion of Tablighi Jamaat as well as other pro-Jihadist groups should come under strict surveillance of every government and peace loving masses in the world.

ezajur...excellent comments.

1. when we will read the exciting book...on the " conspiracy of few CSPs in Bangladesh"......who looted
the public funds while in office, joined 1 of the two parties once retired and continued their corrupt
practises and greedy attitude???

2. why politicians are not tried/punished for their failure to complete the " razakar game"?
they kept people busy..with razakar-myth while they made millions.

3. Who have allowed extremists( religion/ philosophy/ agenda) to flourish in Bangladesh?

4. Why orphans are managed ONLY by moulovis, in Madrasas, while other secular rich, educated,
often corrupt citizens are busy to send their kids to overseas countries?

5. Why only 10% Bangladeshis are enjoying life in " digital Bangladesh".....long after Pakistanis have been
eliminated? Do you know...all the election promises of AL in 1970? Please read again.

WE, the greedy...selfish...corrupt educated and secular morons, have created a situation...that helped some people to practice violence.....in the name of religion.

best wishes.

This is nothing but a scaremongering piece with little if any substance.
It correctly points out the rise of TJ but fails to substantiate why this is such a terrible thing.
The only evidence it concocts is the liberal sprinkling of open ended terms in the second para - you know: alleged this, suspected that.
He writes as if at the end of two years of the secularist AL we should expect the growth of TJ to be checked. What nonsense. The TJ expands voraciously specifically due to the failures of centrist politics in Muslim countries - in this case Bangladesh. All the secularists mouth off without checking the excesses of the parties which they support and never daring to enter the battleground of the centre of Islamic thought. Our secularists sit around talking to each other, doing nothing practical, claiming no moral high ground, ignoring the criminality of their parties and pretending groups like TJ don't exist - just because its convenient.
TJ will continue to grow. As will Jamaat. There's not a damned thing any intellectually washed out political party in Desh can do about it.
JI and TJ can combine in the future. I hope they do. Because only then will the failure of AL and BNP to understand and manage political Islam be exposed.
But probably not. In 10 years Istema will have 4 gatherings - totalling 4 million. And the bums of AL and BNP will keep pretending the answer lies with Tareq or Joy.

[ALOCHONA] Mohamed ElBaradei: Globalist Pied Piper Of The Egyptian Revolt

Mohamed ElBaradei: Globalist Pied Piper Of The Egyptian Revolt

By Paul Joseph Watson

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss:
Soros and Brzezinski prepare to hijack the revolution

The revolt in Egypt is an organically driven people-power movement to oust a dictator, restore universal freedoms, and wrestle the country free from the clutches of the US military-industrial complex, but the man now being positioned to form a new government is a pied piper working for the very same globalists and NGO's that autocrat leader Hosni Mubarak has dutifully served for nearly 30 years.

Make no mistake about it, under the current regime Egypt is a vassal state for the new world order. Under Mubarak, the country receives some $2 billion in aid every year from the United States, second only to Israel. In addition, Egypt pays out $1.1 million annually to the Podesta Group, an organization closely tied with the Obama administration, to act as "foreign agents" for Mubarak's regime.

Mubarak's loyalty to the US empire was reciprocated this week when Vice-President Joe Biden ludicrously asserted that Mubarak's unbroken 30 year reign did not represent a dictatorship and that he was a close ally of the west.

"Egypt under Mubarak uses its billions in U.S. military aid to detain, beat and torture dissenters, opposition politicians and journalists; many have died in custody," writes Mark Zepezauer. "Thousands of political prisoners and pro-democracy activists are held in overcrowded, disease-ridden prisons, without charges or trials. Press restrictions, including newspaper shutdowns, are widespread."

Which is why it makes no sense whatsoever for the CIA to be involved in contriving a series of riots that would destabilize and threaten to topple a regime loyal to them. This is not the type of staged "color revolution" that we've witnessed before in places like Georgia, the Ukraine or Yugoslavia – orchestrated events disguised as spontaneous uprisings intended to remove rogue leaders hostile to the global elite's agenda for world government.

This is a grass roots movement being carried out by impoverished young Egyptians finally standing up in unison to a regime that toadies to the west yet allows its people none of the freedoms associated with living in a modern and prosperous nation. But that doesn't mean the revolution we currently see unfolding on the streets of Alexandria, Cairo, Suez and cannot be co-opted by the very same globalist forces who have been pulling Mubarak's strings for the past three decades.

The US military-industrial complex has known for at least three years that Egypt was teetering on the verge of regime change, and they certainly were not going to let anyone outside parties take control after Mubarak's fall. That's why the American Embassy trained rebel leaders to infiltrate opposition groups from the very beginning, as the Telegraph reveals today.

Enter former top UN official and staunch Mubarak adversary Mohamed ElBaradei, who recently returned to Cairo in a bid to lead the protest movement.

ElBaradei serves on the Board of Trustees of the International Crisis Group, who today issued a press release protesting the decision on behalf of Egyptian authorities to place ElBaradei under house arrest.

International Crisis Group is a shadowy NGO (non-governmental organization) that enjoys an annual budget of over $15 million and is bankrolled by the likes of Carnegie, the Ford Foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, as well as George Soros' Open Society Institute. Soros himself serves as a member of the organization's Executive Committee. In other words, this is a major geopolitical steering group for the global elite.

The fact that their man ElBaradei is being primed to head up the post-Mubarak government should set alarm bells ringing in the ears of every demonstrator who is protesting in the name of trying to wrestle Egypt away from the clutches of new world order control.

Indeed, even Mubarak himself is now seemingly catching on to the understanding that his usefulness to the global power elite has run its course, remarking during a national address Saturday that the protests were "part of a bigger plot to shake the stability and destroy the legitimacy" of the political system.

Even more ironic is the fact that another powerful globalist who sits on the board of International Crisis Group, Zbigniew Brzezinski, warned last year that the international hierarchy of which he is a key component was under threat from a "global awakening" that would be led by young radicals in third world countries. Having accurately predicted the wave of revolt now spreading like wildfire across the globe, Brzezinski and his fellow globalists are preparing to pick up the pieces in order to continue business as usual, while the people who risked their lives for real change will be the victims of a monumental deception. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

If the Egyptians are successful in toppling Mubarak, only to replace him with ElBaradei, they will have achieved nothing, and the eventual outcome will merely see Egypt remain as a subservient client state of the US military-industrial complex.

[ALOCHONA] Who Is Omar Suleiman?

Who Is Omar Suleiman?

Omar_Suleiman_070731-D-7203T-010_0WX8I_opt.jpg

One of the "new" names being mentioned as a possible alternative to President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt, Omar Suleiman, is actually not so new to anyone who has followed the American policy of renditions for terror suspects. After dissolving his cabinet yesterday, Mubarak appointed Suleiman vice-president, and according to many commentators he is poised to be a potential successor, and an alternative to Mubarak's son and intended heir until now, Gamal Mubarak. Suleiman is a well-known quantity in Washington. Suave, sophisticated, and fluent in English, he has served for years as the main conduit between the United States and Mubarak. While he has a reputation for loyalty and effectiveness, he also carries some controversial baggage from the standpoint of those looking for a clean slate on human rights. As I described in my book "The Dark Side," since 1993 Suleiman has headed the feared Egyptian general intelligence service. In that capacity, he was the C.I.A.'s point man in Egypt for renditions—the covert program in which the C.I.A. snatched terror suspects from around the world and returned them to Egypt and elsewhere for interrogation, often under brutal circumstances.

As laid out in greater detail by Stephen Grey, in his book "Ghost Plane," beginning in the nineteen-nineties, Suleiman negotiated directly with top Agency officials. Every rendition was greenlighted at the highest levels of both the U.S. and Egyptian intelligence agencies. Edward S. Walker, Jr., a former U.S. Ambassador to Egypt, described Suleiman as "very bright, very realistic," adding that he was cognizant that there was a downside to "some of the negative things that the Egyptians engaged in, of torture and so on. But he was not squeamish, by the way."

Technically, U.S. law required the C.I.A. to seek "assurances" from Egypt that rendered suspects wouldn't face torture. But under Suleiman's reign at the intelligence service, such assurances were considered close to worthless. As Michael Scheuer, a former C.I.A. officer who helped set up the practice of rendition, later testified before Congress, even if such "assurances" were written in indelible ink, "they weren't worth a bucket of warm spit."

UPDATE: Further documentation of Suleiman's role in the rendition program appears in Ron Suskind's book, "The One Percent Doctrine." Katherine Hawkins, a sharp-eyed human-rights lawyer who did legal research for my book, points out that, according to Suskind, Suleiman was the C.I.A.'s liaison for the rendition of an Al Qaeda suspect known as Ibn Sheikh al-Libi. The Libi case is particularly controversial, in large part because it played a role in the building of the case for the American invasion of Iraq.

In late November, 2001, Pakistani authorities captured Libi and turned him over to U.S. officials at Bagram Air Base, in Afghanistan, for questioning. There he was questioned by two F.B.I. agents from New York who had worked on terrorism cases for years. They believed they were making great headway—getting valuable, actionable intelligence from Libi. But back in Washington, a custody battle broke out between the F.B.I. and the C.I.A. over who should get to lead his interrogation. Suskind writes,
The debate went up to [F.B.I. director Robert] Mueller and [C.I.A. director George] Tenet, and Tenet—appealing directly to both Bush and Cheney—prevailed. Al-Libi was bound and blindfolded for a trip to Cairo, where he'd be handed over to Omar Suleiman, Egypt's intelligence chief and a friend of Tenet's.
What happened to Libi in Egypt, while in the custody of the Egyptian intelligence service, is documented in detail in a bipartisan report released in 2006 by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. According to the report, Libi later told the C.I.A. that the Egyptian authorities grew dissatisfied with his level of cooperation, so they locked him in a tiny cage for eighty hours. Then they took him out, knocked him over, and punched him for fifteen minutes. The Egyptian officials were pressing Libi, who knew Bin Laden personally, to confirm the Bush Administration's contention that there were links between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein. In particular, the Egyptians wanted Libi to confirm that the Iraqis were in the process of giving Al Qaeda biological and chemical weapons. In pushing this line of inquiry, the Egyptians appear to have been acting in accordance with the wishes of the U.S., which wanted to document its case for going to war against Iraq. Under duress, Libi eventually gave in. Details from his confession went into the pivotal speech that then-Secretary of State Colin Powell gave to the United Nations in Feburary of 2003, making the case for war.

Several years later, however, after the U.S. invasion of Iraq turned up no such weapons of mass destruction, or ties between Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein, Libi recanted. When the F.B.I. later asked him why he had lied, he blamed the brutality of the Egyptian intelligence service. As Michael Isikoff and David Corn first reported in their book, "Hubris," Libi explained, "They were killing me," and that, "I had to tell them something."

[ALOCHONA] A word of praise for CTG, Bangladeshi style, from Pakistan

Interesting comments regarding Bangladesh from Pakistan:

"The 1971 debacle proved that Pakistan was a failed experiment," said Aamir.

Who will save Pakistan? Here is another suggestion:

Before we do anything, the present weak, inefficient and corrupt regime, has to be shown the way out.

A transitional/interim caretaker government of non-political technocrats (not exceeding 9), a cross-section of professional leaders, who are not even remotely affiliated with any political  party, have to be put in place with a very focused mandate and hard deadlines to pull the failed state out from the trenches and get it back on its tracks. This transitional team will get rid of the word Islamic before Republic of Pakistan as one of its first tasks and will also schedule and monitor fair elections, before it makes its exit.

There is nothing magical or Utopian about this. One should operate on the replicate the template methodology and follow the road-map of bro General Moeen Ahmed of Bangladesh. How many generals do we know in any developing country, who have executed the following:

  • come out of the barracks to save the county
  • not declare martial law
  • get the bull by the horns and throw a few stools around
  • neutralize the mullahs and reinforce law and order
  • schedule and hold elections
  • hand over the power to the elected party, restore democracy
  • appoint his successor while still holding office (General Mubeen)
  • retire on the stipulated day on June 15, 2009 and make a graceful exit
  • all signed, sealed and delivered in two years, without even seeking promotion

This is no lalaland but Bangladesh, a part of us, surgically amputated 40 years ago. Moeen too is not without controversy, but then when in the end you have something tangible to show to your countrymen, critics are smart enough to maintain the sound of silence.

Learning has no limitations. Its quite OK to take a course from the younger brother, (specially if he is smarter) before we get a real kick in the pants from the big brother and face the Tunisia/Egypt experience. The only difference is that the bloodshed in our case could be much worse, if this surgical operation is delayed any further.

RE: [ALOCHONA] Arial airport: No feasibility study, disastrous for environment

dear mr. sajjad,

I do not know your experience in Bangladesh before 1971.

Exaggerating facts  , distorting history, over-reacting will not make any leader ( or his soul) happy.

Nobody in Bangladesh denies the contributions of sk. Mujib.

That does not mean" Because of Bangabondhu we got this country, the flag, etc.".

There are many other reasons why we got Bangladesh-- lot of other people/leaders deserve
recognition/respect too.

That is not  matured / polished way to show respect to a leader..... by naming of buildings/airport/university.

How many will be enough .......to honour 1 leader will be sufficient?

Respect does not depend on the number of items named after him.

It can be expressed in many other ways.

Look around you......see what other people have done in other countries?

Best wishes.

 Because of him
we have got independence. People of Bangladesh are totally selfish. They are hesitating
to give away a small "Arial Bil" for an airport to be named after him. Those who are
against this, they are definitely Rajakars, anti-liberation forces and hatching conspiracy
to de-rail trial of the war criminals.

Re: [ALOCHONA] Alarming rise of Tablighi Jamaat

Very interesting observation. This "Expert" has fans all over the world...

Israel news wrote...

Salahuddin Shoaib Choudhury is still in our hearts

We should congratulate our fearless journalist Salahuddin for going to Israel and sharing his genuine concern about religious fanaticism in BD. Surely Israel does not know anything about religious fanaticism.

<>The Strange Case Of Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury

I am a little confused about our "Hero" journalist. He was working for well known anti-liberation warmonger in "Inqilab" groups { Of Maulana Mannan}. Which also tried to spread propaganda for "Butcher of Baghdad" Saddam Hussain for some time. Then he became best friend of Israel and the US. Then his "Love affair" with Dr. Belkin ended and "Respected Dr. Belkin" called his stories "Bogus". I want to be proud of this fellow Bangladeshi but I am left confused. Anyone want to clear it up for "Less informed" people like myself?

Shalom.

Subject: [ALOCHONA] Alarming rise of Tablighi Jamaat
