[ALOCHONA] NE militant camps still exist in Bangladesh

NE militant camps still exist in Bangladesh
Despite the change of guard in Bangladesh, a few hideouts of North East insurgent groups still exist in that country, said Director General of BSF ML Kumawat.

Kumawat, who arrived here on April 23 to take stock of the situation along the Indo-Bangla border, said that the BDR has taken solid action against the Indian ultras hiding in Bangladesh since the Awami League assumed power.

The present government in Bangladesh is very cooperative in dealing with the insurgents, he said while addressing a press conference at Salbagan, headquarters of BSF Tripura Frontier here on Saturday.

According to Sinlung News Kumawat said that BDR authorities were also requested to act against the Indian rebel leaders sheltering in Bangladesh.
But still, a few hideouts of insurgents are operational in the neghbouring country.

Pakistani intelligence agency ? ISI is helping the anti-Indian forces there, he said refusing to elaborate on the matter. In the wake of the Mumbai carnage, the Centre has decided to strengthen the border vigil along the 4,096 km Indo-Bangla border.

Giving details about the plan, he said that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sanctioned a project to arrange flood-lights along the 718 km Indo-Bangla border. This will certainly help the BSF jawans to ensure full-proof border guard along the border, he said adding that the number of Border Out Posts (BOPs) would also be increased from 206 to 245 within next three years in the Tripura Frontier.

Regarding BDR mutiny in the neighbouring country, Kumawat said that the BSF role was praised by the BDR authority. We had rendered all possible help to our Bangladeshi counterpart whatever they wanted from us, he said.

Kumawat also voiced concern over the existence of terror infrastructure in Pak Occupied Kashmir (POK).Training of terrorists and launching pads of insurgent groups remain active even after the Mumbai carnage (26/11), he said.He admitted that Pakistan had made heavy reinforcement in its territory after the Mumbai carnage.

Now the situation has cooled down in the eastern frontier, he said."We are ready to give befitting reply to any misadventure along the Eastern frontier", he said adding that 29 new BSF battalions would come up to ensure better border management, Kumawat added.

[mukto-mona] RE: Davdas is a malignant enemy of Islam

Respected Dr Abu Sayeed,

Assalamu Alaikum. I essentially agree with you. Let me explain my
position. Sometimes I feel that these people may confuse a large part of
internet users as if their questions have no answer. Then I respond
selectively once or twice.

Another thing ,new figures go on emerging. Old lot are silent except one
or two. This Davdas and one other have emerged recently .I felt that I
would give a harsh reply because of his total perfidy unlike my
character.

He in this letter is trying to say that Islam allows lying.Lying is
number one Kabira sin. Some Ulama have only accepted some exceptions for
saving life. This fellow,s study is all un-systematic. I am not answering
his petty questions this time. One can consult any un-biased history book
and get the answer.

Shah Abdul Hannan

[ALOCHONA] Re: [khabor.com] PM planned to do office from Canada

Mr. Chowdhury, you are right about Khaleda Zia and her two sons. BTW, Khaleda Zia is not my favorite as I am not a supporter of any of the political parties for obvious reason. A former minister stayed at our house a couple of years back. When asked about the corruption in the government, he said none but only one minister can be termed as honest in their cabinet and the PM was 100% corrupt.
FYI, I am not a felon as I don't have any drunk drivng record and I never carried illegal guns. But your leader Joy has a multiple convictions of drunk driving and was charged with carrying unlincenced gun. As he never held a job except working as an adviser to his mother, how can he be a self made man?

Mr. Enam Haque, fabrication is your lifetime passion. I know about you personally, what I wanted to know whether you are felon or not. Media debunked your favorite Khaleda Zia and great hero Gen. Zia's two rotten children for many years for their great robbery of our national wealth. These two rotten kids Taraque and Koko who could not cross the high Scholl floor and got kicked out from every school they been admitted while receiving millions of BD taka since their father died from poor Bangladeshi to cover up their educational expenses.

Go and ask any student from Saint Joseph High School who studied their in late seventies, they will tell you why Taraque Zia was kicked out of school during his fathers presidency. If you living in US (and you are) and have access to Mr. Khalilur Rahman of Maryland, Gen. Zia's brother go and ask him why he had to call Khaleda Zia and ask her to take her rotten son (who was in Maryland at that time) back as he was out of control.

I know Sajeeb he has only one house in the US , however even if he has not one but hundred that is not in the expense of poor peoples tax money. Whatever Sajeeb Wajed Joy is today is he made himself.

Khaleda Zia widow of NO MONEY man Gen. Zia belongs to the wealthiest women club of the world. In recent days, his son Koko been sued by US government on charges of money laundering. Khaleda and Gen. Zia's older son Taraque is known to every Bangladeshi as Mr. Ten Percent.

Khaleda is occupying the cantt house illegally since her husbands Gen. Zia's killing in the hands of freedom fighters because of his association with thousands of killing including a great number of freedom fighters (including sector commanders) and his ultra association with anti liberation forces,. Even before that, her husband Gen. Zia was occupying this house illegally. She had 15 government paid employee serving her and her family since then including a car with a cha and free fuel. This house belongs to Chief of Army Staff, the day he sworn in as President he should have vacated this house, but he did not because Zia the first military dictator of our country essentially showed his middle finger to the rule of law.

Thanks

After her first term, Putul got another baby, but she did not come to see, because she was not PM and who will pay for that. Now again she is doing the same thing. This time in Canada. According to Ittefaq report, she will stay two weeks in Canada to see how Putul's third putul come to this world. This time she might stary in 6 or 7 star hotel or may be she will ask Canadian government to make 10 Star hotel for her because she got more seats in the parliament and she is more popular and populous. Is it not a corruption? How do BAL supporters explain this? When millions of people do not have money to see doctor or millions of moms do not have any money to go to

Mr. SA Hannan, what happened in the Taliban controlled land of the Swat Valley is unthinkable to happen in this world. This is very sad that Pakistan and it's inhabitants of Swat Valley will be subject to sharia law which reflects such brutality. I really wants to know not just if this incident really took place or not but more importantly if this really could happened under Sharia law?

In your own comments on Swat Valley incident, you said:

Everything can be made up by acting and digital camera photography

Your comment was in support of Pakistan and Taliban authority rejection of this barbaric tortures video tape as phony propaganda. Mr. SA Hannan, trust me, for the first time I really wish you are comments turn right otherwise my faith will have difficulty, especially if this is allowed to happen under Sharia rule.

Mr. SA Hannan, you seems to share your religious opinion here and there often, will you please help me to understand, please!

  • Is there any country in the world which implemented Sharia as the only law of the land
  • Does Taliban's follow authentic Islami Sharia Law?
  • Does Sharia law allow married or unmarried women to be beaten if she found away from her house such as shopping mall without her husband or accompanied by a male member of her family.
  • If the Sharia law really does allow beating women for this reason then can you please locate the law  in its entirety.

  • Does Sharia law allows girls to go to regular school not the religious school

I truly feel sad for people of Pakistan and Swat in particular who now been lawfully controlled by Taliban and their so-called Islamic Sharia law. I pray to almighty Allah to save the women of Pakistan and Afghanistan from Taliban brutality in the name of Islam.

Story courtesy of CNN
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) – Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari signed into law Monday a peace deal for the nation's violence-plagued Swat Valley, according to a presidential spokesman.
Women wearing burqas in North West Frontier Province.
The deal implements Islamic law, or sharia, in the Swat Valley region of North West Frontier Province.
Last week, pro-Taliban cleric Sufi Mohammad announced he was pulling out of a peace deal for Swat Valley, saying the government was not serious about implementing Islamic law, or sharia, in the region.
Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik said Saturday the peace deal remained intact.
Mohammad brokered a cease-fire in February between the Pakistani government and his son-in-law, Maulana Fazlullah, who commands the Taliban in Swat Valley.
Although details of the deal were not immediately available, it was understood that the area will come under the Taliban's strict interpretation of sharia.
The central government has little control in the area, but it launched an intense military offensive in late July 2008 to flush out militants from areas of the North West Frontier Province.
As retaliation for the military presence, the Taliban carried out a series of deadly attacks, beheadings and destruction of girls' schools. They also continued to gain ground, setting up checkpoints throughout the area.
Pakistan is under enormous pressure to control the militants within its borders. The militants are blamed for launching attacks in neighboring Afghanistan, where U.S. and NATO forces are fighting militants.

Swat Valley was once one of Pakistan's biggest tourist destinations. It is near the Afghanistan border and is 186 miles (300 kilometers) from the capital, Islamabad.

Swat girl flogging video fake, official says

By Fasihur Rehman Khan - April 05, 2009

Islamabad: A top government official of Pakistan's Taliban-controlled
Swat region has made a surprise claim that the amateur video clip shown
by television channels of a 17-year-old girl being flogged was
fabricated, media reports say.

Malakand Division Commissioner Syed Mohammad Javed was quoted by local
media as saying that the incident shown in the video clip had not
happened in the Swat valley and that the accents of the people heard
speaking in the video were not those of the region.

"This fabricated video clip is a conspiracy to sabotage the Swat peace
deal between the Taliban and the NWFP government," the commissioner said
after his visit to the Kala Kalay village where the incident is alleged
to have taken place.

Swat Taliban Spokesman Muslim Khan echoed his sentiments, claiming the
tape was the handiwork of pro-West organisations.

Bangladesh Court Nullifies Election of Islamist Deputy

Associated Press, Arab News

DHAKA, 15 September 2003 — Bangladesh's High Court yesterday nullified the election of a national

lawmaker from the ruling coalition after ruling that he broke campaign rules. High Court Judge Iman

Ali declared void the election of Delwar Hossain Saidee of Jamat-e-Islami, an Islamic party that is part

of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's four-party coalition. The ruling came two years after a petition was

filed by Sudangsu Sekhar Haldar, a former lawmaker from the opposition Awami League party and

the runner-up for Saidee's seat in the 2001 parliamentary elections. Yesterday's ruling said Saidee's

election was invalid because he had spent more money in the campaign than the allowed maximum

of 500,000 taka ($ 8,600), and used banned campaign materials such as color posters and leaflets

and denigrating propaganda against his [Hindu] opponent.

4. On Writers & Journalists

Delwar Hossain Sayeedi recently called for banning Professor Humayun Azad's books under the

Blasphemy Law.

[Author & Professor Humayun Azad was later stabbed multiple times by unknown assailants in an

attack alleged to be inspired by Sayeedi's hate speech. Azad later died in Germany.]

Journalist Mithu attacked: Was Sayeedi responsible?

"At the same time, Maulana Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, Jamat-e Islami Member of Parliament,

threatened Shafiul Haque Mithu, correspondent of Dainik Janakantha, and asked him to leave

Pirojpur (south of the country). The journalists wrote articles about the participation of the

fundamentalist leader in massacres during 1971 Independence war."

The hatred generated by Sayeedi and others fundamentalists has contributed to the milieu of

fundamentalist arrogance and hatred for free speech in Bangladesh. Professor Azad had received

death threats for his writings. A "call" for punishing him came during one of the recent anti-Ahmadiyya

mob meetings in Dhaka.

[ALOCHONA] Swine Flu: Facts and Prevention Tips

Swine Flu: Facts and

Prevention Tips

The recent outbreak of swine flu in

Mexico and the United States is of great

concern to the World Health Organization

(www.who.int/en/) and the Centers

for Disease Control and Prevention

(www.cdc.gov). On Sunday, April 26, 2009,

the federal government declared the

illness a public health emergency.

Swine flu is a respiratory virus that

typically occurs in pigs. Like the many

forms of influenza virus that occur in

humans, it mutates constantly, creating

new strains, and can sometimes be

transmitted to human beings who have

close contact with the animals (such as

farm workers). The strain that is causing

the outbreak in Mexico and the U.S.

(called swine influenza A or H1N1) has

mutated so that it can now be transmitted

from person to person. Symptoms

associated with swine flu include:

• Fever

• Lethargy and lack of appetite

• Coughing

• Nasal congestion

• Sore throat

• Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea

While the initial source of this outbreak

appears to be Mexico, multiple countries

are now reporting confirmed cases,

including the United States and Canada.

Some of the confirmed cases have been

mild, but others have resulted in serious

illness and death. Given the nature of

international travel, flu can spread

rapidly throughout the globe in a

relatively short period of time.

Health officials are concerned about the

potential for worldwide spread of the

illness (also called "pandemic") because

this strain is new to humans. As a result,

the flu shots that were issued over the

winter provide no immunity to the illness.

In addition, the virus appears to be resistant

to some of the antiviral drugs that

are typically used to treat the flu. The

number of young, seemingly healthy

people who have been affected by the

illness in Mexico is also cause for concern

as the typical flu virus is rarely fatal

except in the elderly or those with

weakened immune systems.

The CDC's recommendation for avoiding

swine flu is to take standard flu season

precautions. These include:

• Avoid touching your eyes,

nose, or mouth. Person to person

transmission of a virus can result

from touching another person, then

absorbing the germs into yourself.

Wash your hands frequently.

Use warm water and soap (if no warm

water, use alcohol-based soap) and rub

vigorously for at least 30 seconds.

• Keep hand sanitizers in your

car or purse. Use after handling

money, touching items that others also

use (such as a gas pump), and before

eating restaurant food.

©2009 NEAS, Inc.

• Eat healthy. Eating foods rich

in vitamins A, C, and E will

strengthen your immune system.

Try to start each day with a

healthy breakfast.

• Take vitamins and supplements.

A good multi-vitamin can

help strengthen your immune system,

as can drinking green tea.

• Drink at least eight glasses of

water per day. Water flushes

out your system and keeps you

hydrated.

• Practice stress management.

Too much stress can weaken your

immune system. Exercise and find

ways to relax, such as listening

to soothing music, meditating,

practicing yoga, reading, or

watching a comedy show.

• Get plenty of rest. Adults need

at least seven hours of sleep per

night, children more. Insufficient

rest increases your chances of

getting sick.

• Don't share drinking

containers. Shared drinking

containers spread germs fast.

Use disposable paper cups in the

bathroom, and wash water bottles

before refilling them.

• Use a separate set of towels

for each family member.

Give everyone a different color

or pattern.

• Disinfect. Clean doorknobs,

phones, computer keyboards,

bathroom sinks, kitchen counters,

and any other items that are

frequently shared.

• Wash your child's toys with

soap and water regularly,

especially if he or she tends

to chew on them.

• Avoid party dips and food

trays that do not contain

utensils. Others may have

touched the food with their hands

but not taken it, or you may have

had a chip double-dipper in front

of you.

• Keep a scarf or mask over your

nose and mouth. If you are

worried about the spread of germs,

you may want to keep your face

covered in crowded public places.

• Stop smoking. Smoking kills

cilia — the fibers in your nose

and lungs that prevent mucus

from clogging these airways.

Please note: You cannot get the

swine flu by eating pork or ham.

Like other forms of flu, swine flu is a

respiratory illness that is transmitted

by person to person contact.

If you or a family member come down

with flu-like symptoms, it is recommended

that you take the following

steps to care for yourself and prevent

the spread of the illness.

• Stay home. While it may be

difficult to miss time at work or

school, keep in mind that being

out in public when you are

contagious increases the odds

that others will get sick. The

CDC is requesting that anyone

with flu symptoms isolate

themselves by staying at

home, even if they are only

experiencing mild symptoms.

• Cover your nose and mouth

with a tissue when you cough

or sneeze. Throw tissues away

immediately after use.

• Wash your hands after blowing

your nose or coughing. Make

this a consistent habit to avoid

spreading germs.

• Don't share a bed with another

person if you are sick. Wash

bedding and blankets after the

sick person recovers.

• Spray garbage cans with

disinfectant to kill germs and

keep those who handle the garbage

from getting sick.

When to Seek Medical Attention

If you are experiencing flu symptoms

(especially if you live in an area

where swine flu has been reported),

contact your health care provider. He

or she will determine if you need to

come in for testing for swine flu.

Flu symptoms that indicate an urgent

need for medical attention (regardless

of what form of the illness you have)

include:

• Difficulty breathing

• Discomfort or pressure in the

abdomen or chest

• Dizziness

• Confusion

• Persistent or severe vomiting

Children who are ill need immediate

attention if they:

• Have a bluish skin color

• Refuse liquids

• Are irritable and refuse to be held

• Have a fever with a rash

• Can't wake up or are lethargic or

unresponsive

When in doubt, contact your

physician.

The scope of the swine flu outbreak

is still being determined. Until more

information is available, it's best to

stay calm and take appropriate

precautions to prevent illness. If

All Dhaka rivers left 'dead'

Industrial pollution goes unabated on docile action

POISONED BURIGANGA…A boat carries passengers, top, on the murky waters of the Buriganga. Wholesale dumping of industrial waste, sewage and garbage left the river, touted the lifeline of the capital, in this sorry state. The photo was taken from Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge-2. Inset, the photo taken at Lalbagh shows the filthy water of the Buriganga.Photo: STAR

Soft attitude of the government towards polluters and lack of awareness among city dwellers have literally left dead all the rivers and other surface waters in and around the capital.
Over the years the government agencies conducted small-scale drives against the polluters without yielding any major success. The polluters have meanwhile continued polluting the rivers side by side with city dwellers linking excreta discharge to the storm sewerage that ultimately falls into the rivers.
The immediate past caretaker government had earlier directed industrialists to install Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) at their respective industries by October 31, 2007. But most of the industrialists defied the directive and the government also did not go for action against the violators.
Even the Department of Environment (DoE) does not know exactly how many of the industries have ETPs installed.
"Some industries set up ETPs but don't use those as they need to spend additional money to treat their water," says a DoE inspector.
According to a study jointly conducted by the World Bank and the Institute of Water Modelling (IWM), there are over 300 various effluent discharge outlets from nine major industrial clusters including Tongi, Hazaribagh, Tejgaon, Tarabo, Narayanganj, Savar, Ashulia, Gazipur and Ghorashal.
Of these, 19 outlets carry the major discharge of domestic and industrial waste.
Of the discharged untreated liquid waste, 61 percent are industrial and 39 percent domestic waste, the study shows. The lone Sewerage Treatment Plant (SWP) in Pagla in Narayanganj can treat only 10 percent of the industrial waste.
The primary estimates made in this study show that nearly 330,000 kilograms of BOD is discharged from various polluting sources every day in Dhaka watershed.
"This gives an indication of the extensive pollution loads from various domestic and industrial sources. The situation is extremely precarious particularly during the six months of the year from November to April," the report states.
Over the last 10 years major industrialisation in the Dhaka watershed has been observed, especially in dyeing, washing and textiles sectors. It is estimated that there are over 7,000 industries in Dhaka metropolis located mostly in three clusters -- Hazaribagh, Tejgaon and DND area.
According to statistics from DoE, the number of polluting dyeing mills is 365, tanneries 198, pharmaceutical units 149, engineering workshops 129, chemicals and pesticide factories 118, jute mills 92, rubber and plastic units 63, food and sugar 38, paper and pulp 10, cement and fertilisers five each and distilleries four.
However, the real number is much higher than the statistics, and among all these the dyeing factories and tanneries are the main polluters of the rivers.
Asked why the industries don't use ETPs even if they have it, a DoE chemist explains the reason. He says, "If a dyeing factory produces one tonne of cloth, it discharges 100 cubic metres of liquid waste equivalent to 100,000 litres of water.
"A factory needs to spend Tk 300 to Tk 400 to purify one cubic metre of water excluding electricity and manpower costs.
"They just don't want to spend that money," the DoE chemist says.
Waste from these industries is connected to the sewerage system that directly leads to the rivers around the city. In fact, the rivers have become a dumping ground of all kinds of solid, liquid and chemical waste of bank-side population.
According to the Environment Conservation Rule, 1997, every industry should have an in-house ETP. Otherwise, they would not get from DoE the environmental clearance, which is mandatory to obtain power and gas connections.
Mahmud Hossain, owner of a washing plant in Gazipur, said their industry generated 150 cubic metres of waste water every day.
"We need to spend Tk 8-10 lakh per month for lime, poly electro lime, polly aluminium chloride and polly electro chloride to treat the waste," Mahmud added.
"If we are honest we can treat the wastewater before discharging and even make profit from the business," he commented.
