[mukto-mona] Fw: Pakistan's Hindu community irked by ‘forced conversions’

DAWN, Karachi, Pakistan

Hindu community irked by 'forced conversions'

KARACHI: "Can you accept your daughters forcibly being married to Hindu men?" said Rinkle Kumari's uncle Raj Kumar at a seminar titled 'Hindus in Pakistan — issues and solutions' held at the Karachi Press Club here on Sunday.
Calling a little six-year-old girl, Jumna, onto the stage, he said that she along with her 10-year-old sister, Pooja, was also being forced to change religion if the media had not raised their case. "What do children as young as Jumna and Pooja know about Islam and their own religion for that matter that they'd want to convert? This is the height of injustice," he said.
Jumna's parents, mother Marju and father Soma, were also present. Soma said that they were residents of Akhtar Colony in Mirpurkhas. "We are poor people. My little girls helped supplement our income by selling clay toys and utensils door to door. On Feb 4 they left home as usual with their basket of toys but didn't return. We raised alarm. "After several reports in the media about our missing girls it was found that they had been staying with a man named Rajab Pathan. The police of our area later produced them in court as Muslim children. "We were prevented by the police from seeing them, too.
"Then the court sent them to a Darul Aman over suspicions they may have been subjected to child abuse at home. Little Jumna has been given back to us now but Pooja is still at the Darul Aman.
She seems to have been brainwashed into saying strange things about us. Her mind seems affected by the trauma," the girls' father, Soma, wept.
Mr Kishan Chand Parwani, chairman of the All Hindu Rights Organisation, the organisers of the seminar, said that it was sad to see the problems of minorities in Pakistan multiplying instead of decreasing.
"I have served as an MNA in this country five times now and know that the rights of Hindus have never remained a priority here. We came up with the Marriage Act for Hindus but it was never passed by the assembly as the government finished its term. So underage Hindu girls are being forcibly converted to Islam and married to Muslim men.
"Minorities are protected by law everywhere in the world but the Hindu community in Pakistan is facing harassment at every level," he said.
To prove this point several affectees from Sindh came to narrate their ordeal.
All present on the occasion agreed that people representing them in the assemblies were actually their parties' yes men.
Politician Dr Riaz Chandio said that they would have had no problems with their daughters converting to Islam if they did so of their own free will. "But we know that this is not so. Rinkle Kumari's case is before us," he said.
Former minister Jai Prakash from Quetta said that he had found his party and government supportive to his community. "For instance, an old Hindu temple was falling within the area marked out for the Hingol Dam in Balochistan but the map was changed to avoid destroying it after I raised the issue with government," he said.
Karamat Ali of the Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research said that minorities should make themselves as visible as possible in order for the country to think about them, too. "When you need to go to court to change your name then how can you be changing your religion without any legal proceedings?"
Writer and poet Fahmida Riaz said that she only wanted to thank the Hindu community to finally come on a platform to raise their voice for their rights. "Looting and plundering is going on everywhere but when it happens to members of the Hindu community it is done especially knowing that you won't fight back. So get up and fight for your rights," she said.
Former senator Safdar Abbasi said that it was a sad reality that not just Hindu temples but also mosques, Imambargahs and churches were not safe in Pakistan these days.
Iqbal Butt of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan was of the opinion that one had to raise an issue to be able to solve it.

Re: [mukto-mona] Re: context needed to understnad life of prophet Muhammad PBUH

Nothing is more blasphemous and moronic to think that a passionate and almighty God sent his best and last messenger to a community of desert oasis and forgot about his best creation since then.  Even a blind could see that the last messenger was a failure till he adopted dacoits, blunder and mayhem of the weak Jewish communities from the hideout of Yatrib.   It was the collapse of the Persian Empire due to war of succession that made Islam the winner.  But again, the Ummayads, the archenemy of the Hashemites in which the Prophet belonged, was the winner.  As Ms. Majid is a closet fundamentalist, she gets irritated by a correct analysis of Islamic history.

The talk of 'context needed to understand Mohammad' is essentially nonsense talk.

There is no need to understand a man who lived on Earth some fifteen hundred years back. What the world needs to do is to see the actions of people today, and reward, stay indifferent or punish those actions, depending on the virtue, innocence and criminality, respectively, of those actions. Mohammad does not need any such reward, indifference or punishment.

The problem with the soft-sellers of the Islamic doctrine is that they would call the absolutely non-criminal objective looks at Islam as 'not knowing the context', 'ignorance' and even 'hatred against Islam'; while at the same time they remain inactive and soft-supporters of Islamic criminals that act upon their use, misuse, abuse, 'not knowing the context' and 'ignorance' of Islam. While the soft-sellers of the stupidity and hatred of Islam remain mostly inactive and soft-supporters of hatred and atrocities against non-believers of Islam, they hardly ever push for serious punishments against the real criminals who do their crimes proclaiming to be on behalf of and for the protection of Islam.

I think mukto-mona, being a thinkers' forum (as opposed to blind-believers' forum), should mostly expunge the slavish, brainwashed, and illogical soft-selling of religion by people like QR.

Life of the last prophet -PBUH

Following the expulsion of the treacherous Jewish tribes of Banu Qainuqa' and Banu Nadeer for breaking the treaty with the Muslims, Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam exiled the remnants of these to Khaybar on the outskirts of Madinah.
Awaiting a decisive defeat of the Muslims by the Quraish which didn't materialise, the deceitful Jews grew in discontent and hatched a new conspiracy against Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam in the fifth year after hijrah.

Being too cowardly to face the Muslims in battle, 20 Jewish chiefs went to Makkah to draw the Quraish into a negotiation by forming a "coalition". In return for the Quraish attacking Madinah, full support would be provided to them by the Jews and both parties thereafter would be rid of Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam and his followers once and for all. Smarting from successive humiliating defeats at the hands of the Sahaabah radiallaahu 'anhum, the Quraish jumped at the offer.

The Jewish delegation toured Arabia inciting the various tribes to take up arms against the Islamic State of Madinah. In Shawwaal, the Confederates (various tribes from Arabia under the leadership of the Quraish) converged on the outskirts of Madinah boasting a combined force of 10,000, which outnumbered the total Muslim population of Madinah at the time.

Based on surveillance reports of impending attacks, Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam ordered the digging of trenches to protect Madinah based on the advice of Salman al Farsi radiallaahu 'anhu. The period spent digging the trenches was one of the most difficult times endured by the Muslims in defense of Islam. The digging took several days and during this time, Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam and the Sahaabah radiallaahu 'anhum endured fatigue and near starvation. At the completion of the trenches, 3000 Muslims came out to guard Madinah against any advances by the kuffaar (disbelievers).
Witnessing the trenches was a great psychological setback for the kuffaar and although they tried to cross it was to no avail. Apart from the exchange of volleys of arrows, there was not much in the way of physical combat. This was more a battle of nerves as the Confederates grew more frustrated with each passing day.

The examination was even greater for the believers as the third Jewish tribe of Banu Quraidha, who were still resident within Madinah, launched operations against the Muslims internally, especially against garrisons that housed Muslim women and children. Due to the firmness of the Sahaabiyaat like Safiya bint Abdul Muttalib radiallaahu 'anha, who killed a lurking Jewish man, the rest of the Jews became discouraged as they thought that the Muslim garrisons were well fortified. However, they continued to provide full support to the Confederates.

It was not long after, when Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam sent some Sahaabah radiallaahu 'anhum to investigate this internal breach, that Banu Quraidha openly announced the breaking of the pact with Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam.

With the Confederates before them and their backs vulnerable, the Sahaabah radiallaahu 'anhum were being taunted by the munafiqeen (hypocrites). Allah Azzawajl describes this event along with the feelings experienced by the Sahaabah in the Qur'an: "When they came upon you from above you and from below you, and when the eyes grew wild and the hearts reached to the throats, and you were harbouring doubts about Allah. There, the believers were tried and shaken with a mighty shaking. And when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is a disease (of doubts) said: "Allah and His Messenger promised us nothing but delusions! And when a party of them said: "O people of Yathrib (Al Madinah)! There is no stand (possible) for you (against the enemy attack!) Therefo re go back!" And a band of them ask for permission of the Prophet saying: "Truly, our homes lie open (to the enemy)." And they lay not open. They but wished to flee." (TMQ Surah Al Ahzaab:10-13)

The siege lasted for over a month after which the Confederates were defeated by the Will of Allah Azzawajal: "O you who believe! Remember Allah's Favour to you, when there came against you hosts, and We sent against them a wind and forces that you saw not [i.e. troops of angels during the battle of Al Ahzab (the Confederates)]. And Allah is Ever All-Seer of what you do." (TMQ Surah Al Ahzaab: 9)

As with all incidents in the blessed life of Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam.

Re: [mukto-mona] Re: context needed to understnad life of prophet Muhammad PBUH

I mostly agree with Ms. Farida Majid.

As for her first sentence, there is no logical reason to talk about why, how and in what context a religion or its founder was good or bad. The point that needs to be talked about is what people actually practice. In other words, people are the problem, religions are not. A religion has whatever it has, but people are the problem when, for example, they think that women are supposed to be like properties/possessions of men, irrespective of what religion/philosophy preaches that.

As for her second sentence, while the reason for the seemingly crude and not-so-crude 'Islam-bashing' is due to the fact that too much of the hatred and injustice in the world is being done with the proclamation of following, promoting and protecting Islam, I think we need to try our best to not talk about Islam. Rather, our focus needs to be on people's thoughts and actions, as I said above.

But ordering how a discussion should be moved forward is not really a Muktomona motto. You got your pet subjects and you are totally free to push forward whatever you think right for your taste. Please stop browbeating others in regards to what should be discussed and what not. That is called censorship. If I remember correct, we were equally critical about the authentic Marxism of Sankar-da when he tried to feed us with a different cool-aid.

Please STOP posting this religious stuff in mukto-mona.  We've had this crude Islam-bashing type of writings day after day, month after month, year after year.

Subject: [mukto-mona] Re: context needed to understnad life of prophet Muhammad PBUH

Dear all,

I welcome your initiative to critic Islam and prophet Muhammad (PBUH). However when you take out of context events, it may confuse and misguide a lot of people. I am forwarding a part of history which is important to know to be able to UNDERSTAND some of the decisions taken by the last messenger of God Muhammad (PBUH).

Specifically he gave multiple chances to Jewish tribes who not only broke singed treaties with the state of Medina but conspired to murder Muslims of that city (By becoming traitors during war).

If you have questions, feel free to ask.

Shalom!
