Re: [mukto-mona] Re: Four cattle smugglers killed by BSF

I was playing with the following pairs of possible headlines to report incidences:
1. 5 Hindu women were raped by XYZ party cadres vs. 5 humans (men can also be raped, right?) were raped by miscreants
2. 10 houses and 1 temple were burnt down in village V by XYZ caders vs. 10 houses and 1 place of worship were burnt down by miscreants
3. The chief of a political party P instigated his followers to attack the members of a perceived rival group vs. Narendra Modi (Khaleda Zia) instigated his (her) cadres to attack Muslims (Hindus) in Gujarat (Bhola)

I could have come up with more pairs. But the message is this: We are not perfect yet. We still have prejudices and sectarian, religious, and racial biases, let alone the political motives. We have seen reports that law enforcement agencies sometimes take part in communal riots. We have seen a recent news item sent by Mr. Parmer. A SC man's hands were chopped off as because he drank water out of the pitcher of a caste hindu. Sometimes some news items are sensitive and may provoke violence. In those situations it becomes necessary to tailor the news. A human rights activist cannot remain indifferent to such possible biases. It is his duty to shed light on it. Otherwise, the reporting will be incomplete. It will, however, be necessary to investigate and find the real truth. Even if the investigation reveals that no particular religious or racial hatred worked as the motive, the basic fact still remains that 2 muslims and 2 SC men were killed brutally by BSF. We still live in a world where a hindu is killed only because he is hindu, a muslim is killed only because he is a muslim, and an SC man is killed only because he is an SC man.

Let us learn not to be too obsessed with possible appeasement policies adopted by "pseudo secularists."

To me the headline means - those kids were killed by BSF just because they were scheduled caste and Muslim. You can believe this story, but don't ask me to do so. I will wait until Kirity Roy learns to report news (or stories) without any hidden agenda. I was referring to a very particular headline that I have quoted in my comment, which was the hallmark of BNP/Jamat.

>>>>>>>>>> I understand where you are coming from. HOWEVER it is like "Corrupting" news as per individual will. I also find it amusing that, you think "Kirti Roy" has a "Hidden" agenda to help MUSLIMs.

Why is it so hard to imagine there are Muslims who suffer like rest of the population?

There are plenty of theories about "Hidden agendas" but sometime explanations are the simplest of all. BNP/Jammat are POLITICAL parties and they are no different than political parties in this planet. They want to go back to power!!

That is all. I do not know why Indian authorities are so careless about suffering of poor Bangladeshi and Indians? We are good neighbors (Based on Sub-continent standard) and have a lot of similarities. So what is stopping us from acting like genuine partners?

Guess Indian policies are the biggest enemies of India...

If a subject-line reflects emotion of the sender then we can criticize that emotion, or the motive of the sender. But changing the subject line is not a good 'netiquette'.  Sukhamaya Bain changes the subject line of even renowned writers, not just the posts of BNP/Jamaat cadres. I find that extremely annoying and it is tantamount to trespassing.          If I may point out a mistake (perhaps deliberately made for extra emphasis) by Jiten Roy --- the title of the previous post was sent to me by Kirity Roy of MASUM, not BNP/Jamaat, and it was arbitrarily changed by Bain by his own sweet will. I had forwarded the mail to mukto-mona without any touching up or correction of punctuation or anything. It was: Subject: [mukto-mona] FW: Four teenagers from SC & Muslim communities were killed by BSF without using bulletst; Impunity continued                                                      Who decides what the "real news" of the story is? Four teenagers cruelly  killed is not REAL enough news?  Kirity Roy and his team of Human Rights workers on the ground, at the spot in the villages, gathering relevant information are dumb morons.  And for the "real news" at the India-Bangladesh border we have to get it from the big boss-man, the Chief "sompaadok mohaasoy" living in Markini-muluk, right?

First of all - title like: "BSF Hayenas killed innocent Bangladeshi" does not reflect the real news of the cattle-thief and smugling stories.  It only serves as disinformation outlet of the BNP/Jamat propaganda machine. You should know this.
Shukhamoy Bain did the right thing by changing the headline to reflect the real news in the story. I have opined on the story before to expose the facts behind the headline. Yet, BNP/Jamat gong keeps sending the same cattle-thief stories using the same heading again and again. I thought - only BNP/Jamat people would be annoyed by the change of headline. I guess - I was wrong.

In these days of 'information super-highway' we have a deluge of messages every hour, every day.             Does Sukkhamaya Bain propose to sit as a Sentry to the gateway of all 'messages' and be the sole judge of deciding which ones are "misleading" and which ones are not? He even has the audacity of changing the headline or the title of a subject-line according to his own  personal, arbitrary judgment. This is extremely annoying!         More objectionable than this annoying practice is his roundabout logic behind it.  He says in one breath:
<<Those boys were killed or tortured not because they were SC or Muslim; they were tortured and killed because they were smuggling cattle in the middle of the night across the India-Bangladesh border. >>
OK. So the Indian Border Security Forces were perfectly justified in torturing and killing the boys, in this instance, and in all the instances in the past and in the foreseeable future. Right? Bain wants to insist that torture, mutilation, humiliation and killings are on the books as lawful punishment for smuggling across the India-Bangladesh border to be executed on the spot at the arbitrary whim of the Indian Security Forces.                 But then Bain has another bout of thinking: ...  [T]he issue of cattle thieves being killed at the border should be raised as a human rights issue ...  he says in another breath. We agree with him on this point.
So why is the subject-line of the news bothering him so much that he has to EDIT it unilaterally? It really is an abhorent practice!  The cruel killings of people 'innocent until proven guilty', he says "should not be talked about in terms of how India or BSF treats Bangladesh or Bangladeshis in general". Awww! Isn't it toooooooooooooo bad!                     Go figure!

Here is another misleading news headline. This killing was not because the victim was a Bangladeshi, because he was a cattle smuggler/thief crossing the border illegally in the middle of the night.

See how aggressive the cattle thieves could be. They killed a police officer and seriously injured two of his colleagues in Dhaka.

Again, I think the issue of cattle thieves being killed at the border should be raised as a human rights issue, because in the civilized world, we provide a good deal of human rights even to criminals. It should not be talked about in terms of how India or BSF treats Bangladesh or Bangladeshis in general.

The title of the message was misleading. So, I have edited it a bit. Those boys were killed or tortured not because they were SC or Muslim; they were tortured and killed because they were smuggling cattle in the middle of the night across the India-Bangladesh border.

Now, I am not suggesting that torturing and killing of cattle smugglers is an acceptable behavior for a state paramilitary force. These acts are condemnable by any civilized standard, and the perpetrators should be appropriately punished. However, I have been unwilling to entertain the big talks of Bangladeshis being killed by the BSF.

Here is a case where four Indian citizens were tortured and killed by the border guards of India (BSF). There is no doubt that among the smugglers there are more Bangladeshis than Indians, and more Bangladeshis are likely to face the treatments of the jungle by the BSF. Yes, a lot of the law enforcement in our subcontinent is done via barbaric techniques. That is very wrong, and needs to be corrected; and looks like the Indian authorities are trying to do that for the cattle smugglers. The Bangladeshi news media and human rights group have been doing a disservice to their professions by portraying the criminals at the border as ordinary/innocent Bangladeshis.

RAW trained Crusader 100 in action in Bangladesh

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) April 22, 2012 --
Strictly scrutinized 100 armed cadres of the ruling Awami League in Bangladesh, who received 6-month long extensive commando training at Dehradun in India under the direct supervision of Indian espionage agency RAW are continuing various types of activities, including secret killing, abduction etcetera since June of 2010 with the mission of â€Å“clearingâ€ a large number of politicians, media personnel and members of the civil society in Bangladesh. The team codenamed â€Å“Crusader-100â€ went to India during end September 2009 and stayed there till mid June 2010, where brilliant commando trainers of Indian Army gave extensive training to these people under the disguise of â€Å“training few young commandos of Bangladesh Armyâ€. The entire project of â€Å“Crusader-100â€ was originally conceived by Indian Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and the project was coordinated directly by the Bangladeshi Prime Minister and her defense advisor Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Tarique Ahmed Siddiqui.
Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Tarique Ahmed Siddiqui maintains special connection with Indian RAW and British MI6 for decades, since he was in army service. Such relations of RAW and MI6 with him was because of his family relations with Sheikh Hasina. When Bangladesh Awami League formed government in January 2009, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Tarique Ahmed Siddiqui became extremely important in the government due to his official position as the defense advisor to the Bangladeshi Prime Minister as well as his personal identity of being the brother-in-law of Prime Minister’s younger sister Sheikh Rehana. The selection of the entire batch of ruling party cadres, who were sent to India for commando training were directly done by Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Tarique Ahmed Siddiqui and a few of his loyal colleagues and retired army officers, while on return of the members of the â€Å“Crusader-100â€ team from India, they were provided a hit list comprising names of opposition politicians, members of Bangladeshi media and some members of the civil society. According to information, the list contains names of more than 83 people, who are planned to be â€Å“clearedâ€ by the members of the â€Å“Crusader-100â€ gang. The members of these specially trained hitters are housed inside several buildings at Dhaka’s Gulshan and Baridhara areas. The Baridhara â€Å“basesâ€ of the hitters is maintained directly by Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Tarique Ahmed Siddiqui and each of such places are equipped with sophisticated surveillance equipments as well as entry of civilians are restricted within these premises. Leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, M Ilias Ali, who became victim of enforced disappearance recently, was also named in the list of Crusader-100 force. My New Delhi contacts disclosed few of the names of the hit list, which include, political leaders Amanullah Aman, Mirza Abbas, Sadeque Hossain Khoka, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, M Ilias Ali, Habibun Nabi Sohel, Abdullah Al Noman, Barrister Abdur Razzaque, Shafiul Alam Pradhan, ASM Abdur Rob, Mufti Fazlul Haque Amini and Moulana Fazlul Karim. Awami League and RAW have decided â€Å“clearingâ€ the listed names latest by December 2013, which they consider to be â€Å“vitalâ€ for the ruling party in Bangladesh in returning into power.
The gang of Crusader-100 is equipped with sophisticated small and medium range weapons, mostly with silencers as well as bullet-proof jackets, gas bombs and vehicles for their operations. Some of the members of this gang use satellite phones to skip interception of any of the Bangladeshi intelligence agencies. Each of the members of this gang received healthy financial package along side various types of extra benefits, including apartments in Dhaka city for the members of their families and small businesses. They are not allowed to show faces during the day-time and mostly required to stay inside their bases in Dhaka city. In case of emergency, when the members of the team are required to go on street during the day time, they are compulsorily required to wear black-tinted helmets, to hide their faces from the public. By rotation, members of the team are secretly taken to India for a break of 7-10 days for â€Å“amusementâ€ purposes. In such cases, they are allowed to cross Bangladesh-India borders without any travel documents.

Re: [mukto-mona] Fwd: a video: "HINDU BASHING IN PAKISTANI SCHOOL BOOKS"

As I wrote before, blaming America is an easy, cheap and irresponsible way of shifting the culpability from where it really belongs; in this case, Pakistan itself. Mr. Subimal Chakrabarty's assessment below is seriously flawed.

In a school textbook in the 1960s, in the then East Pakistan, there was a story where a cow wanted to be sacrificed for Allah in order to go to heaven. In my tender mind, I wondered, how hateful, cow is like a god to the Hindus, yet this is in the textbook that all children have to read! In another history narrative in a textbook, occupation and plundering of the Somnath Temple by Muslim invaders were described as Somnath Bijoy (winning of Somnath). Do these sound like American foreign policy in Afghanistan?

I would like to ask people like Mr. Chakrabarty to search their memory for facts like the following:

1)       The resignation of Jogen Mandal in 1950 from the position of Minister of Law, Justice and Labor in Liaquat Ali Khan's cabinet due to atrocities on Hindus in East Bengal. The government of Pakistan was hostile to religious minorities, not eager to uphold their rights – forcing Mr. Mandal to take a permanent shelter in India.
2)       The colossal scale atrocities on Hindus in Pakistan in 1965, during a war with India.
3)       The regular military of Pakistan killing Hindus, irrespective of political affiliations, in 1971.

Ayub Khan was the dictator of Pakistan from 1958 to 1969. It would be foolish to suggest that he had nothing to do with the 1965 atrocities, or with the mindset of the Pakistani military that methodically killed innocent and non-violent Hindus in 1971. It would be absurd to think that the character of Zia-ul-Haq sprouted out all of a sudden like a weed from a civilized/innocent Pakistan.

FYI: Jogen Mandal's Resignation Letter, if the hyperlink above does not work: http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Resignation_letter_of_Jogendra_Nath_Mandal

Mr. Chakrabarty really needs to do some reading, recalling his memory, and thinking, before making the kind of comments that he made below. If we can not speak truthfully and honestly, let us keep silent, let us just enjoy our life away from talking in the public forums.

Although only about a 2-mimute-long video, it is pretty informative and enlightening. I was a school student in a Pakistani (eastern wing) school in sixties and so was Tarek Fatah. In the Bengali anthologies that we had to read, there was nothing anti-hindu or anti-Christian. We had great pieces from all great Hindu writers including Bankim. [When the nationalist movement was crystallizing in the eastern wing, Monem Khan became worried and requested Abdul Hye to write Rabindra-sangeet although the selections in the anthologies remain unchanged.] Looks like it was a similar case in West Pakistan also. From the short but incomplete speech, one can find that every thing started with Ziaul Huque and Talibanization of Afghanistan. I will say that this has been one of the evil and harmful spill over effects of the foreign policy of America in Afghanistan. One may argue that cold war is the root cause. Thus communalism was bolstered in Pakistan indirectly because of the American foreign policy.

At this time it may be politically incorrect to say that Ayub Khan and his cabinet members were not fanatic Muslims like Ziaul Huque. As a matter fact in spirits they were pretty modern in their life style. Ayub Khan was found swimming with Christian Killer in a swimming pool! Mowdudi was given death sentence during his tenure for instigating riots against the Ahmediyas. For the first several years after birth, Pakistan was going through chaotic situation. Ayub Khan emerged as the "savior" of the politically unstable Pakistan, and with the dictatorial rule brought stability in the polititical arena of Pakistan for a while. He understood the then global politics in his own way and chose to be blessed by the Washington-Peking axis and as such resorted to anti-India policy to gather strength and thereby consolidate his position both internally and externally (SEATO-CENTO). He was too much a Panjabi and neglected East Pakistan (although it was a great source of the national earnings) and the other regions. He resorted to the policy of family planning and was greatly opposed by Jamaat and some other so called Islam-pasand political parties.

As a result of this filth, minorities have to suffer a lot in Pakistan. Minority Group Rights International (an international organization whose sole job is to raise awareness of minority rights issues worldwide) ranks Pakistan as the 6th most unsafe nation for the minorities.
