[ALOCHONA] Lack of transparency in Warid-Bharti deal alleged

Lack of transparency in Warid-Bharti deal alleged

Allegations of lack of transparency have surfaced over the telecom deal between Bharti Airtel and Warid. Indian mobile telecom giant Bharti Airtel in 2009 bought 70 per cent stake in Warid, the sixth telecom operator in the country, almost at no price.

Chief strategy officer of Robi (formerly AkTel) Koji Ono has openly questioned the deal saying: "Docomo bought 30 per cent stake in Robi (formerly Aktel) at a price of $350 million and paid $20 million as tax to the government in 2008, but we don't know how much tax Bharti paid to the government to get the 70 per cent stake in Warid," he said.

The telecom regulatory authorities should make the whole deal clear so that everybody knows about the exact status of the deal and that Bharti was not given any undue favour for any reason, he said.

The parliamentary standing committee on planning has recently asked the telecom regulatory authorities to spell out the deal as the agreement has deprived the government of about Tk 1.35 billion in tax."We have sought an explanation on the deal as there is allegation that the government lost some revenue over the agreement," the committee chairman Oli Ahmed said.

Warid was registered with the Registrar of Joint Stock Company in December 2004 with a paid-up capital of Tk 2.0 million and authorised capital of Tk 100 million. It changed its name from Warid Telecom BD (Pvt) Limited to Warid Telecom International Limited in 2006.
It raised its paid-up capital by Tk 9.25 billion in January 2007 and again by Tk 10.73 billion in March 2009. It struck a deal with Bharti Airtel and sold a part of its ownership to the Indian company.Warid Telecom transferred over 114.47 million shares to Bharti Telecom at a price of Tk 0.06 per share on February 25 this year against its face value of Tk 100. The Warid telecom showed over Tk 27 billion in losses before the share transfer.

The government, however, withdrew 5.5 per cent telecom share transfer tax just before the handover of Warid share to Airtel. On February 25, 2010, 207m new shares were created and transferred in the name Bharti.AT present, Bharti Airtel owns 321.879 million shares and Warid Telecom International LLC owns 137.948 million of the company, whose paid-up capital stood at over Tk45 billion..

Bangladesh Telecom Regulatory Commission (BTRC) chairman Zia Ahmed said, "We have asked Bharti to submit its investment plan. It gave us a plan of $300 million for business expansion," he said.He admitted that Bharti gave Warid $100,000 as "token money" and then it brought $300 million for investment in the company."Now Bharti owns 70 per cent stake in Warid and the $300 million investment has already arrived in the country," the chairman said.

Dhabi Group, promoter of Warid, was looking for a strategic partner as the operator had negative equity and eventually it struck the deal with Bharti, he said. When asked about the tax loss to the government, he said, "I am against the 5.5 per cent tax imposed on transfer of telecom shares and I am happy that the tax was waived in February this year."

Mr Zia claimed that the commission allowed the Bharti-Warid deal after consulting with the government.Under the Bangladesh Telecom Act, 2001, BTRC is empowered to take any decision and it does not need to consult with or inform the telecom ministry or any other government agency for taking any decision.

A post and telecommunication ministry official said the government was not aware of the deal as under the existing laws the BTRC does not need to discuss with the ministry for taking decisions."We cannot poke our nose into BTRC matters as the ministry's hands are tied," he explained. He, however, said the cabinet has already approved the amendment to the telecom act to clip powers of BTRC and hand over certain authority to the government. "The amendment is likely to be placed in the budget session for the approval of parliament," he said.

The amendment will empower the government to become the licencing authority and it will also fix tariff rates and revenue, he added.
When asked why the government has taken the decision to trim the regulatory authorities' power, he said the cabinet is the highest decision making body of the government and it must have a role in tariff and revenue matters of the telecom sector."The regulatory authorities will only be the implementing agency after the amendment to the telecom act," he added.

[ALOCHONA] Genetically Modified

Genetically Modified

By Layla Anwar

Some years ago, I knew a Western woman...she was was not exactly a friend, more like an acquaintance, a friend of a good friend of mine. Anyways, this woman I will call her Marion, was newly wed and she and her husband were very much looking forward to having a baby.

When Marion got pregnant, after careful planning, because Westerners love to plan everything right down to the last cent -- she had all the medical care she needed. Tests, ultrasounds and the rest....and during her 4th month of pregnancy she underwent the usual exam to determine that her baby was a healthy fetus.

Marion was devastated when her doctor informed her that her baby had some genetic deformity and she had to undergo an abortion. Marion then lapsed into a severe depression despite the fact that her doctor assured her that she can still have healthy babies in the future, she'd panic at the thought of getting pregnant again and her marital relation suffered a severe blow which ended up in a divorce...

During her grieving period, her friends and family showed her the utmost support...everyone sympathized with her losing a 4 month old fetus, empathy overflowed, so did the pampering, and the endless sessions with specialized psychiatrists who tried their best to help Marion overcome her grief...

It was a big deal...very big deal...how could nature deal such a fate to Marion - everyone wondered...and I saw heads shake in disbelief at this cruelty...and heard the exclamations of horrified indignation, for one pregnancy gone awry.

I felt - well yes it is sad, but it is not the end of the world. She's lucky she found out in mid pregnancy instead of waiting till delivery and she's still young and in good health, she has access to medical services, she lives in a healthy environment, she has a good diet, she has support, and she can get pregnant again...

The fuss was overdone in my opinion...but then Westerners care so much about life, healthy babies, healthy families, and their absolute right to have all of the above in the best conditions possible...

Years passed, I don't know what happened to spoiled Marion, maybe she conceived again, maybe she's still getting over the fact that she had to terminate a pregnancy because of some nature's mishap...but what I do know on the other hand -- is that thousands of Iraqi mothers are being asked not to get pregnant at all...

The latest I heard and it is unofficial, is that in Basra, doctors are advising women not to get pregnant for the next 25 years. Basra being an enclave of the shiite government, no one dares publicly announce that. It just circulates in secret among the newly wed...

In Falluja on the other hand, it is official --women are publicly advised not to have any babies, no number of years are indicated -- it is assumed for a long, long time...

The reason for this pregnancy dissuasion stems from the fact that the West who cares so much about its own little infants, had absolutely no qualms into pouring tons of lethal chemicals as in Weapons of Mass Destruction over the people of Basra and Falluja --to name but a few...chemical weapons like depleted uranium and phosphorus which caused cancer rates to soar among children and which produced the most ugly looking monsters -- genetically modified by "freedom and democracy"...

The mothers of Falluja and Basra don't have the luxury of some Marion...and their little Frankensteins are not a product of some odd nature's mishap.. no. Their little ones have been planned and conceived in Washington DC and 10 Downing Street. Their are the fruit of the West. The West's labor...and our pangs.

No one will fuss over the Iraqi mothers, nor will they receive the satin gloved support and empathy like Marion did...they will just lie in that delivery room, assuming there is one...and expel one monster after another...made in America and Great Britain.

But you see there is one thing that probably escapes you...these monstrous infants, these deformed babies -- not of nature but of your "civilization" -- are only a reflection of you own ugliness...in themselves these infants are beautiful...and in yourselves, you are just plain hideous.

[ALOCHONA] UK gets first Bangladeshi MP

UK gets first Bangladeshi MP

Rushanara Ali

Rushanara Ali made history on Friday when she became the first Bangladeshi to make it to the British parliament.

Besides, for the first time, two Indian-origin women have been elected to the House of Commons, setting a new record for representation of ethnic minorities in Britain.

The Labour Party candidate Rushanara Ali took Bethnal Green and Bow, the seat previously held by George Galloway. The 35-year-old Oxford graduate won with 21,784 votes, an 11,574 majority over Liberal Democrat Ajmal Masroor, who got 10,210 votes. Respect's Abjol Miah got 8,532 votes.

Conservative Priti Patel was declared elected from the Witham constituency while Labour candidate Valerie Vaz sister of Indian-origin Labour MP Keith Vaz was elected from Walsall South.

Vaz himself retained his seat in Leicester East though his vote share got reduced by 5 per cent from the last elections. It is the first time a brother-sister duo is being elected to the House of Commons.

To tumultuous applause Rushanara Ali, who has been subjected to attacks by Galloway, said: "You, the voters, decided it was time to pay our final respect to Respect. This is a victory for people here who chose hope over fear, unity over division. "To millions of Bangladeshis around the world, it will mean so much to them that somebody of their background has been elected to the mother of all parliaments."

More Asian candidates are expected to be elected as results come in. Keith Vaz told PTI that the election results were expected to break the previous record of 15 Asian MPs. Shahid Malik, Communities minister in the Gordon Brown government, lost his seat in Dewsbury.

A record 89 candidates of Asian origin contested the elections this time. In the 2005 elections, there were 68 candidates and the highest number of ethnic minority MPs 15 were declared elected.

Simon Woolley, OBV's director, said: "Never before in British history have our communities been so strategically well placed and mobilised to push for an agenda of racial justice."

The 15 ethnic minority MPs elected in 2005 were: Diane Abbott ( Labour), Adam Afriyie (Conservative), Dawn Butler (Labour), Parmjit Dhanda (Labour), Mark Hendrick (Labour), Piara Khabra (Labour), Sadiq Khan (Labour), Ashok Kumar (Labour), David Lammy (Labour), Khalid Mahmood (Labour), Shahid Malik (Labour), Mohamed Sarwar (Labour), Marsha Singh (Labour), Shailesh Vara (Conservative), and Keith Vaz (Labour).

[ALOCHONA] Delhi was handed over 30 terrorists while Dhaka gets none

Delhi was handed over 30 terrorists while Dhaka gets none

The Bangladesh government is yet to bring back anyone officially since signing extradition treaty between Bangladesh and India after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to India in January. More than 400 listed terrorists are reported to have taken shelter in the safe havens in different parts of West Bengal.(The Daily Star)

However, the incumbent AL government has handed over at least 30 citizens of India to its government including top ten leaders of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) after signing the extradition treaty.

In return, what Bangladesh gained is a big zero. India has not handed over any of the most-wanted criminals to Bangladesh.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) police of Bangladesh wrote letters to the West Bengal CID police and the Delhi CID police asking them to hand over the terrorists to Bangladesh, the sources said.

A human rights organisation of India said at least 500 Bangladeshis are languishing in different Indian jails.

The Bangladesh government has so long failed to bring back Harkatul Jihad Al-Islami Bangladesh (HIJAB) activists, Morsalin and his brother Mottakin, who were involved in the August 21, 2004 grenade attack on the Awami League rally in Dhaka.

The Harkatul Jihad men are currently lodged in Tihar Jail in Delhi while some top listed criminals are now being kept in different jails of West Bengal.

Police sources said Shahadat Hossain, Dakat Shaheed, Khandakar Tanvir Islam Joy, Haris Ahmed alias Haris, Montu, Khorshed and Zisan, Halim, Rony, Mohammad Ali, Jeshin, Ashik, Nabi, Mosarraf, Chanchal and Shahin are among the 42 top terrors reportedly hiding in India.

Recently the most-wanted terrorist from Bangladesh who hid in India, Shahadat, told reporters on telephone that he helped the Indian law-enforcement agencies arrest Halim, Haji Decon, Ashik, Ali and many other criminals.

Indian authority claimed they had sent back home Rony, Montu, Piyal, Halim, Haji Decon, Ashik and Nobi but they were reported missing from custody, sources said.

Though the Indian media quoted the Indian authority as claiming that they had deported at least 20 criminals to Bangladesh but Dhaka did not confirm it. The human rights organisations also found them missing from custody.

Before signing extradition treaty between Bangladesh and India two listed criminals, Babul and Jewel were handed over to the Bangladesh police in December 2007. The Kolkata CID police handed over two top criminals, Sanjidul Islam Imon and Tushar, to the Bangladeshi team in March, 2008. With Imon and Tushar, a total of seven listed criminals were deported to Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, the ULFA leaders, who were deported to the Indian authorities by Bangladeshi agencies at an outpost on the border in Meghalaya, are chairman of the banned outfit Arabinda Rajkhowa, his wife Kaberi Kachari and their two sons, deputy chief Raju Barua and Rajkhowa's bodyguard Raju Borah.

Two other top ULFA leaders, Chitrabon Hazarika and Sasha Choudhury, were detained in Bangladesh and subsequently handed over to India.

While the Bangladesh government maintained secrecy about handover of Arabinda Rajkhowa, the Indian media reported that at least ten top ULFA and NDFB 'terrorists' were handed over by Dhaka.

Moreover, according to Indian media reports, two other rebel leaders, Chairman of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) Ranjan Daimary and chairman of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) Biswamohan Debbarma, were also handed over to India. The two suspected members of the India-based militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), were also deported by Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, New Delhi wants Bangladesh to return Indian mafia don Dawood Ibrahim's close aide Abdul Rouf Dawood Merchant, who was arrested by the law enforcers in Bangladesh last year.

Indian Foreign Ministry has sent a letter to the Bangladesh ministry of foreign affairs for returning Abdul Rouf Dawood Merchant, who is accused of killing Mumbai music baron Gulshan Kumar.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Sahara Khatun denied media reports that the chairman of the Indian separatist group ULFA, Rajkhowa, had been arrested in Bangladesh and later pushed back to India.

Farida Apa

Munshi Bahar clown act being paid money to churn this.... They just pick this garbage from the stuff churned out by the ISI sponsored ZaidHamid/Ahmed Qureshi gang.

Some thing similar was written by the editor of Defence Journal the same mag where the briefless barrister Munshi is an honorary general in the Pak Army Cyber Warfare platoon..

As far as Bahar just look at the ratings that Bahar's students at Dawson College have given him at Rate My Teacher.com. Other than one or two very marginally favorable comments most of his students are on to him and his type of scholarship. The echo chamber in Alochona either clueless dupes or willing fellow travellers of these two clowns ofcourse think they are bunch of geniuses

Bangladesh Leader Admits India Conspired To Invade East Pakistan

Mujeeb's daughter admits her father was a traitor, says Indian helped him raise an Indian-backed terror militia that raped and plundered in order to malign Pakistan Army

India's advocates in Washington and London have argued for years that Pakistan is the source of tension with India. They conveniently forget where it all started: the unilateral and unprovoked and premeditated Indian invasion of Pakistan in 1971, preceded by careful planning over two years to recruit a terror militia and spread violence and mayhem to engage local Pakistan Army units in East Pakistan, paving the way for a direct Indian military invasion, which was a one-sided violation of international law.  India is an aggressor in the South Asia region.  Pakistan's policymakers are right in demanding a mindset change in New Delhi for peace to prevail. DHAKA, Bangladesh—For the past 39 years politicians and the 'Blame Pakistan first' crowd have blamed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto for saying "Humm iddhar tum uddhar" (a quote attributed to Mr. Bhutto that means, 'You stay there and we stay here, a quote which has since been refuted as bogus), and blamed the Pakistan Army for the attack on the Indian-backed Mukti Bahni terrorists on March 23 as the reason for the creation of Bangladesh.

Ms. Hasina Mujib the daughter of former East Pakistan politician Sheikh Mujib Ur Rehman has now confessed that her father Sheikh Mujib had planned to secede from Pakistan in 1969–two years before the March 23 'military action' against Indian saboteurs and their misguided supporters among disgruntled East Pakistanis.

General Mankeshaw wrote a book in which has claimed that he recruited 80,000 Hindus to create the Mukti Bahni. These terrorists were dressed up in Pakistan Army uniform and raped and pillaged Pakistani Bengalis. They also were dressed up as civilians carrying out acts of sabotage against the civil and military government of Pakistan.

Sheikh Hasina Mujib's confession [See report below] sheds new light on the events of March 23, 1971, because it proves that the Agartala Conspiracy was a real conspiracy sponsored by India against Pakistan and that the then President of Pakistan Ayub Khan had rightly described Sheikh Mujib Ur Rehman as a traitor.

After breaking up Pakistan and declaring independence thanks to direct Indian military intervention, the Indian-backed Mujib regime killed more than 30 thousand Pakistani Bengali patriots who opposed Indian takeover.  Mr. Mujib's first actions were to surrender the natural resources of Bangladesh to India. This includes water. These actions by the pro-Indian regime caused the man-made famine of 1974, in which three to five hundred thousand people perished, according to reports.

Mujib suppressed all democratic rights and unleashed a reign of terror. His main concern was to contain a population that was just waking up from the disaster and did not accept the breakup of Pakistan. In the above circumstances, according to some, Bangladesh faced extinction as an independent nation and was about to become a vassal state of Indian hegemonists.

The coup of 15 August 1975 saved the situation to a large extent and it was widely supported by the people. On August 14, 1975, Bangladeshi nationalists buried secularism deep into the Bay of Bengal. Today Bangladesh faces new threats from India. After failing to take over Bangladesh in real terms, India is forcing a transit policy on a defenseless Bangladesh.  The transit facilities that India is demanding would clog existing Bangladeshi road links and pose a security threat to Bangladesh.

PLANNED INDIAN AGGRESSION AGAINST PAKISTAN

Bangladesh's founding leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had made detailed plans for secession from Pakistan during a stay in London in 1969, his daughter and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said.

Sheikh Mujib discussed his plans at a meeting held a few months after his release from prison following a prolonged trial in the Agartala conspiracy case in which then Pakistan government had brought sedition charges against him and 34 others, Hasina told a meeting Sunday.

They were charged with conspiring to separate from the then East Pakistan with help from neighbor India. Agartala is the capital of Tripura state in northeastern India. Political analysts say her disclosure, reinforced by the claim of her own presence at the meeting, could be a scoring point in the ongoing debate on who actually declared the country's independence, or separation from Pakistan.

Mujib's role is disputed by opposition leader Khaleda Zia. Zia's supporters claim that it was her husband and then Pakistan Army major Ziaur Rahman who had first broadcast a freedom speech.

Referring to this debate, Hasina urged all to go through the reports of intelligence agencies and foreign ministries of different countries. Mujib, who became Bangladesh's president, was assassinated in August 1975. Ziaur Rahman, who became the army chief and later the president, was assassinated in 1981. Siffy News. Mujib planned separation from Pakistan in 1969.

Sheikh Mujib met an ignominious end on 14th August 1975, when Bharati conspiracies to absorb Bangladesh into Bharat were buried deep into the Bay of Bengal. On that day Bengali patriots killed the traitor who had declared himself "dactator for life" and banned all Bangladeshi political parties.

Bengali patriots killed Shaikh Mujib who was seen as an Indian agent and a sell out to Delhi. Bangaldeshis revolted against the Indian imposed "Rakhi Bahni" (run by a sitting Indian General) and rose against the so called "Treaty of Friendhsip" whose aim was to absorb Bengal into India. Shaikh Mujib's body lay in the streets of days. It was Awami League of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman that mortgaged the national independence and state sovereignty signing the 25 years long-term unequal treaty with India. By creating Rakkhi Bahini, Lal Bahini, Sheccha Shebok Bahini and other private Bahinis AWAMI-BKSALISTS unleashed an unbearable reign of terror killing 40000 nationalists and patriotic people with out any trial. Ishaan Tharoor in an article in Time magazine published on Nov. 20, 2009 "To outsiders, this celebration of a justice [death penalty for mutiny against Mujib) long deferred may seem a bit too rapturous. But it cuts at the heart of the political traumas that have plagued Bangladesh since its bloody independence from Pakistan in 1971. Mujib had been President of the new country for just four years before a coup hatched by disgruntled military officers, some of whom harbored Islamist or pro-Pakistani sentiments, led to his assassination and the installation of a military government. Since then, Bangladesh has endured a succession of army-run regimes, as well as a period of dysfunctional democratic rule marred by corruption and partisan bickering.

Yes; my father did break Pakistan, confesses BD Premier

Daily Mail Monitoring

Sunday, 7 March 2010

Dhaka—Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid has confessed that her father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a traitor who formed a detailed conspiracy to break Pakistan into 2 pieces with the help of the Indian government during his stay in London in 1969.

Hasina was addressing a discussion in Dhaka to mark the 'March 7,1971' speech of mutiny, in which Sheikh Mujib called on the people of East Pakistan to prepare for the secession from the rest of Pakistan.

She said that her father made separation plans just months after his release from Kurmitola where he had been detained in the Agartala Conspiracy Case, in which the Pakistan government had brought sedition charges against him and 34 others.

"He went to London on October 22 1969, following his release in the Agartala case on April 22 that year. I reached London the next day from Italy, where I was living with my husband," she recalled.

"It was there that my father at a meeting made plans for separating West Pakistan from East Pakistan, including when the war would start, where our fighters would be trained and where refugees would take shelter."

"All preparations were taken there (London). I was serving tea and entered the room several times where the meeting between my father and some Indian officials was being held. I heard their discussions," the Prime Minister said.

Referring to the recent debate over who first proclaimed Bangladesh's independence, she urged all to go through the reports of intelligent agencies and foreign ministries of different countries.

She also said the Aug 15 1975 assassination of her father and family members, and the Jail Killings of four national leaders on Nov 3 the same year, were planned by those defeated in the war to take revenge for their defeat.

"Those who rewarded the killers had never expected Bangladesh's independence. They wanted to impose the principles of the defeated forces on the people," she added.

[ALOCHONA] Five Reasons You Need More Water

Five Reasons You Need More Water

NaturalNews) Water is the Elixir of Life. It comprises 80% of your body and is the most important element to your well-being and health, outdistancing all others. New readers to Natural News may not be familiar with the review Mike Adams did of the seminal water cure work of Dr. Batmanghelidj.1 That alone should tell you why you need to get enough water.

There is no "magic amount" that covers everyone. Some need more than others and most need more than they're getting now. It's estimated that 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. Even if you don't drink coffee, soda, or other diuretics and water-robbers, you may still be dehydrated. There is no such thing as too much water - you literally can't get sick or die from drinking too much (good) water. You can, however, if you don't drink enough.

Here are 5 reasons you need water:
  1. Your body needs water to make new cells of every type: blood, bone, skin, etc.
  2. When you have enough water, your lymphatic system operates at peak, removing wastes and toxins from your body at a healthy rate.
  3. Water lubricates your joints, helps bring nutrients to your nervous system, and helps keep your vision clearer and your teeth stronger.
  4. Water regulates your metabolism and aids digestion and temperature control.
  5. Literally every cell, organ, and system in your body requires water to function correctly.

Things to know about your water

Before you start drinking water, however, there are things you should know about it too. If you live in urban or suburban America, it's likely that your water is infused with fluoride. Municipal water sources (including most bottled water you buy in the store) put fluoride into water supplies to promote dental health.

There are a lot of reasons that this is not a good idea, however. Even the CDC's own study that gave fluoridation of water a glowing report admits that fluoride only helps teeth topically and doesn't do anyone any good when ingested.2 In fact, fluoride is listed by the CDC as a poisonous substance.3

Then, even scarier, there are the countless pollutants and trace pharmaceuticals that could also be in your water.4 Those are definitely not good either.

Getting good, quality drinking water for health and well-being
Luckily, it is possible to clean up your water or access clean water yourself, if your water is not already of good quality. That, of course, has also been covered here on NaturalNews.5

However you do it and wherever your choice in water comes from, make sure you drink plenty of it. Water is, after all, the Elixir of Life.
