Re: [mukto-mona] Re: [muktamona] Israel, Kashmir and Tripura - My Comments on Partha Chatterjee's Article

1. Partha Chatterjee has not said that he does not want a two-State solution. Only thing he said is that Israel should stop further settlements in the occupied area. There is already an international pressure on Israel.

2.  Looks like like many intellectuals like Arundhati Roy, he is in favor of allowing Kashmiries self rule. This is an option which some politicians want to consider. Kashmir has become too costly for india.

3.  It is a fact that the original tribal people of Tripura have been reduced to minority because of mass exodus of Hindu refugees from Pakistan. He has expressed his emotion out of a guilty feeling although it was human tragedy that caused this migration. It is like apologizing many years after commitment of crimes by a past generation. Think about what we have done to the Chittagong Hill Tracts. What has been done to the Santhals? And to many small tribal and indigenous peoples? History is replete with such invasions. Aryans came to India as invaders. To whom did the Americas belong?

Well, Dr. Roy, let me be the first to say here, who am I to judge the expertise of a Columbia Professor of Anthropology? But when he puts Israel, Kashmir and Tripura in the same category, I am not much impressed with his expertise on his subject. His views are not based upon historical facts; he probably wanted to serve the purposes of the sources that put him in that position.

Professor may be an expert on his own discipline, but - being a professor in a reputed university will not make someone expert on everything. Well, Dr. Das, unfortunately, Partha Chatterjee is also a regular Professor at a very prestigious school (Columbia University) in the USA. Looking at his stature and that of many others, I sense that to find funding sources, one probably needs agenda that serve some unjust interest group(s). An unadulterated mind for human dignity and rights is great; but it is not sponsored by rich interest groups, including governments.

As far as I know, Mr. Chatterjee's family had to migrate to West Bengal (India) from East Pakistan after 1947 partition for safety and security. Many Hindu Bengali families had no choice but to go Assam or Tripura for their safety too as Mr. Chatterjee's family moved to West Bengal. So, how Mr. Chatterjee would rationalize his family's migration to WB was legitimate whereas others' is illegitimate? Mr. Chatterjee's attitude is pretty much contradictory to what he practices vs preaches. This is a typical problem for many Indian useful idiots who never took a stand to stay where ever they belonged but they blame the victims for being ethnically cleansed.  Pure hypocrisy!

Partha Chatterjee's likening of Kashmir and Tripura with Israel is hardly rational.
The non-Muslims of other parts of India did not consider Kashmir anything like a 'promised land' to settle in, the way the Zionists of the world did to Palestine. In fact, there is an Indian law that prevents non-Kashmiris to buy land there. If the Kashmiri religious majority had an opportunity, that land most likely would have been something like a Pakistan or Bangladesh today, with the non-Muslims of that land totally expelled/marginalized. Even with all the Indian military presence there, the Muslim majority there have driven out the minority Hindu Pandits from the Kashmir valley. The Muslims of that land have all the power there, except for making that land an Islamic nation of injustice and atrocity. The Muslims of Kashmir certainly have a lot more sovereignty than what the Arabs have in Israel.
Similarly, Tripura was not considered a 'promised land' by the settlers from East Bengal (today's Bangladesh). The persecuted Hindus of East Bengal went to India, including Tripura, for shelter, not for ruling, not for subjugating the local population. Being more educated, they had an advantage over the local population of Tripura. Being too many in number from the densely populated East Bengal, they also became a majority in the land that had been sparsely populated. But their intent was never like what the Zionists wanted to do to the Palestinians. As Mr. Chatterjee has also observed, the Bengali dominated government has been trying to build bridges between the Tribal and the Bengali populations. There is no policy of settling more Bengalis from other parts of the world in Tripura; quite unlike what is going on in Israel.

So, you are another fake fighter? 11 years old child fighting 71 war? On what front? In dreams? This is hilarious! Can you explain to us why Abid has been lying about his war credentials? Can we expect the truth from this liar?

It is good see liars like Bahar gets caught with his own stupidity. I always knew that this man is a creep and congenital liar. He generally boasts about his credentials as a freedom fighter during 71 war. If he is a 55 years old (see the link) (http://www.canada.com/story.html?id=575003a7-4539-4ace-ad12-0dd1bf7a293f) now, he must have been a 11 years' lad in 1971. So how many 11 years did get military training during 71 liberation time, let alone carried heavy Kalashnikovs? Where is fake certificate, dear?
