[ALOCHONA] BSF killed 922 Bangladeshis since 2000

Indian BSF killing spree continues-922 Bangladeshis killed on border since 2000

Meanwhile, with the latest killing on August 24 the number of
Bangladeshis killed by BSF in the year of 2011 rose to 18 and the
total during the last 15 months to 79

In clear violation of Indian government's pledge, its Border security
Force (BSF) has killed yet another Bangladeshi along the border taking
the total of such killings to 922 till 2000.

According to a UNB report: A Bangladeshi youth was stoned to death
allegedly by BSF along Dabri border in Haripur upazila on Wednesday,
August 24.The deceased was identified as Babul Hossain, 28, son of
Shukur Uddin of Geruadangi village of the upazila.

Quoting witnesses, Haripur thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Humayun Kabir
said several people, including Babul, went to frontier Nagor River for
catching fish.

As they unknowingly entered into the Indian part of the river, BSF
members of Indian Phulbari camp tried to catch them and at one stage
threw stones at them.Being hit by stone, Babul sustained injuries in
his head and drowned while others managed to escape leaving behind
their fishing nets(UNB). Babul's father alleged that BSF killed his
son by throwing stones.

Meanwhile, BSF shot and injured a Bangladeshi man at Hijaldi village
in Kolaroa upazila on Thursday morning. The injured was identified as
Laltu Hossain, 35, a cattle trader and son of Saker Morol of Sultanpur
village of the upazila.

In sequel to the incident, a clash took place between BSF and Indian
and Bangladeshi cattle traders at Hijaldi border in the morning,
leaving an Indian cattle trader injured in bullet fired by BSF.

The injured Indian cattle trader was identified as Abdullah, 30, a
cattle trader by profession and son of Samsher Morol of Gonorajpur
village of 24 Pargana of West Bengal of India.

Angered at the incident Bangladesh and Indian cattle traders engaged
in a clash with BSF who shot at them leaving Abdullah injured. The
clash also left two BSF members injured. One of the injured BSF men was
identified as Akhel Ishwar Sing.

Meanwhile, with the latest killing on August 24 the number of
Bangladeshis killed by BSF in the year of 2011 rose to 18 and the
total during the last 15 months to 79. The BSF killed 907 unarmed
Bangladeshis between1 January 2000 and 31 March 2011, Odhikar, a human
rights body said .

It may be recalled here that during his visit to Dhaka on July 30
Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram had assured that no border killing
will take place in future. Replying to a question about the killing of
Bangladeshi civilians by the Indian BSF, Chidambaram said strict
instruction has been given to the BSF jawans not to open fire on the
people crossing the border from either side under any circumstances.
