[ALOCHONA] The Right Diet can Reverse Hardening of the Arteries

The Right Diet can Reverse Hardening of the Arteries

(NaturalNews) A recent two-year international study demonstrated that a long-term weight loss plan featuring the reduction of calories and processed foods with an increase in vegetables can reduce blood pressure and reverse atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).

The subjects, mostly men, included 140 overweight workers at Israel`s Dimona Nuclear Research Center. Head researcher Dr. Iris Shai, from Ben Gurion University of the Negev in Israel, said the study sought not only to restrict calories, but also to educate subjects and their spouses on healthy eating regimens for weight loss. The research center`s cafeteria managers cooperated with clinicians and nutritional advisors to provide healthy meals, changing the food service program in accordance with each of the three diet regimens. The spouses cooperated on the home front to provide the same required foods.

Probably because of such cooperation at work and at home, the study achieved an unprecedented result in the adherence rates. The first year achieved 95 percent adherence; after the second 85 percent stayed with the diet.

All three diets, which featured an increase in vegetables and the omission of trans-fats and processed foods, combined with calorie reduction, led to weight loss. In most diets, the dieters lose weight at first and start re-gaining after six months. This regimen showed that there might be some weight gained back, but a long-term change to one of these diet strategies can reduce carotid atherosclerosis. This is most true for those who are mildly obese and experience a decrease of more than ten pounds in weight and more than seven mmHg in systolic blood pressure.

The main diet changes call for reducing the amount of red meat, eating more fruits and veggies and eliminating as many sugars as possible, including alcohol and fruit juices.

The five most critical foods to avoid are doughnuts, chips, fried non-fish seafood, soda and French fries. If these items could gradually be replaced by dark green and cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, collard greens, kale, mustard greens, turnip greens, Brussel sprouts), spinach and Swiss chard, over time, weight will come off and arteries will become less clogged.

The scientists measured changes in carotid artery vessel thickening caused by plaque. At the end of the two years, there was a five percent decrease in average carotid vessel-wall volume and a one percent decrease in carotid artery thickness. Dr. Shai was especially interested in the finding that the changes to the vessel wall volume, caused solely by diet changes, could actually be seen and measured in the arteries.

Mediterranean and low-carbohydrate diets were the most effective for inducing weight loss. More favorable effects on lipids were obtained with the low-carbohydrate diet, while glycemic control (fasting glucose levels) among the study`s diabetics improved with the Mediterranean diet. The weight loss itself is what brought about the changes in blood pressure and plaque.

A major factor in the study was the cooperation of the workplace. It clearly can be seen that such health-improving changes as artery wall thinning and lowering of blood pressure, along with weight control, involve the cooperation of both the subject`s home and work environment.

The importance of the study is not only in regard to the ramifications for weight loss, but also in the fact that atherosclerosis and blood pressure are direct risk factors for strokes and heart attacks. Even though atherosclerosis increases with age, there are tools which can reverse the process.

[ALOCHONA] Ruling quarters need to abandon bureaucracy cleansing operation

THE call by Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, deputy leader of parliament and senior presidium member of the ruling Awami League, for the prime minister's intervention in removing supporters of the opposition political camps from the administration tends to betray, once again, the tyrannical tendencies of the ruling quarters. According to a report published in New Age on Sunday, Sajeda Chowdhury, while speaking on Saturday at a discussion to mark the second anniversary of the prime minister's release from jail, alleged that the BNP-led government had 'filled different tiers of the administration with their people' and that 'the government's efforts are not succeeding because of them.' She also urged the prime minister not 'to show kindness', but 'to be strong and remove them.' Simply put, she seemingly wants a relentless cleansing operation until the administration is completely rid of civil servants who are perceived to be either supporters or sympathisers of the opposition camps.

The sentiment that her statement betrays is indeed shocking, as it runs counter to the very concept of pluralism. A democratic society is supposed to accommodate people of divergent political views. It is only expected that bureaucrats will have their own ideological and political inclination. What needs to be ensured is that they do not allow their political and ideological inclination to get in the way of discharging their responsibilities as per their service rules. However, the ruling quarters seem to want the bureaucracy populated with only those who are loyal to them. Such tendencies of the ruling quarters are, needless to say, not quite surprising.

Ever since the AL-led political camp rode to power on the back of a resounding victory in the December 2009 general elections, the ruling party and its associate organisations, especially the Bangladesh Chhatra League, have been on a 'cleansing mission'. While they systematically drove away their political opponents from the campuses of different educational institutions, markets, bus and truck terminals, and what have you, the government went after the pro-opposition officials and employees, real or perceived, in the civil administration. Scores of bureaucrats were either handed down punishment postings and transfers, so to speak, or forced into retirement. At the same time, bureaucrats who are deemed loyal to the ruling party were rewarded with promotion in excess of available vacancies. In the process, while some meritorious civil servants fell by the wayside, their infinitely inferior colleagues got promotions to posts that they neither deserve nor have competence for.

The question is when such partisan tinkering with the civil administration will end. It is true that the BNP-led government did carry out its own 'cleansing operation', but the AL-led government seems to have taken the practice to an altogether different level, both in terms of frequency and ferocity. So much for its promise for change in politics and governance. What it has seemingly failed to understand is that it was gifted a golden chance by the people, to really make a difference and restore merit, competence and skill as the yardstick, instead of favouritism and cronyism, for reward in the administration. Not only does it seem to have spurned the chance but it has also infused unprecedented vengeance into the pernicious practice. In doing so, it may have created the 'justification' for the next government, whichever party it is led by, to push the practice even further.

In the end, the country stands to suffer the most because it needs a competent bureaucracy, the strength of which will lie in the personal and professional integrity as well as competence and performance of its officials. The government needs to realise that the path it has set the bureaucracy on will only hurtle it down to its doom.

[ALOCHONA] BSF kills 28 in 4 months and 108 in 13 months

BSF kills another Bangladeshi

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) killed one more Bangladeshi along Fotehpur frontier under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj early Monday as the killing spree on Bangladesh border continues unabated despite India's repeated pledges to stop such killings.(TBT Report)

According to UNB News Agency, BSF shot a Bangladeshi national to death at Fotehpur frontier under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj early Monday. The deceased was identified as cattle trader Safiqul, 22, son of Belal Uddin of Fatehpur village.

Sources said Indian border troops of Subghati border camp near pillar no. 13 opened fire on Safiqul late at night as he crossed the border to purchase cattle, leaving him dead on the spot. Commander of 39 Rifles Battalion Major Nazrul Islam confirmed the incident. He said they have sent a letter to their Indian counterparts protesting the killing and demanding immediate return of the body.

The killings of unarmed Bangladeshis by the BSF on the border are continuing in clear violation of the spirit of good neighborliness as well as international law and despite repeated pledges by the Indian authorities to stop it. In every meeting between BSF and BDR and also between the higher level officials of the two countries, the Indian side assures that killing of Bangladeshis by its forces on the border would come to an end immediately. But this pledge is seldom implemented.

With this BSF killed 28 Bangladeshis in last four months and to 108 in last 13 months. The number of Bangladeshis killed by BSF during the nine years period from January 1, 2000 to June 14, 2010 stands at 833. BSF also injured 860 and abducted 903 Bangladeshis in the same period.

[ALOCHONA] US puts Bangladesh, Thailand on human trafficking watch list

US puts Bangladesh, Thailand on human trafficking watch list

The United States on Monday put Bangladesh, Singapore and Thailand as well as Vietnam on a human trafficking watch list, accusing them of failing to prevent women from being forced into prostitution.(Agence France-Presse.Washington)The move opens the way for the United States to cut off some civilian assistance, although it usually functions as a symbolic means to pressure countries to take action.

In an annual report, the State Department added a growing number of Asian nations to its watch list — Afghanistan, Brunei, Laos, Maldives, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Bangladesh, China, India, Micronesia, the Philippines and Sri Lanka remained on the list, unchanged from a year earlier.

The State Department recognised improvements in Malaysia and Fiji, keeping them on the list but removing them from the lowest category of countries that do not even meet the minimum standards on human trafficking.

North Korea, Myanmar and Papua New Guinea remained at that bottom level.Taiwan was upgraded and listed as fully compliant in efforts against human trafficking. Australia, New Zealand and South Korea were also listed as fully compliant.

Explaining the downgrade for Singapore, the report said that some women from China, the Philippines and Thailand are tricked into coming to the city-state with promises of legitimate employment and coerced into the sex trade. The report said that while Singapore launched 'some significant new steps' to fight forced labour, there were no 'quantifiable indicators' that the government was identifying more victims or prosecuting more culprits.

The State Department said that Thailand was a source, destination and transit point for trafficking, with ethnic minorities and citizens of neighbouring countries at particular risk of sexual abuse or forced labour.US senator Jim Webb, who heads the Foreign Relations subcommittee on East Asia, had made an unusually open appeal not to place Thailand on the black list.

Webb visited Thailand this month and said US embassy staff disagreed with the intended downgrade as it could curb assistance for democracy and human rights programs. The downgrade occurs 'at a time when this type of aide is desperately needed to bolster political reforms in Thailand and to promote political stability,' Webb said last week.

> Concerns about Safety of Mahmudur RahmanThe chronology of events that lead to the arrest of Acting Editor of Amar Desh is scandalous by the very nature by which government has abused executive power and misused legal instruments. This will create serious problem in the efforts of the people to go by the rule of law and create a reasonable space within the present nature of power to practice democratic values. Silencing the dissenting voice is also embarrassing for Bangladesh development partners who often sermon on human rights, freedom of thought, conscience and press. As we could notice, from the media the diplomatic community has expressed their concerns within the paradigm of their foreign policy objective in Bangladesh. But it is also clear that the blatant interventions that we used to the see during the past regime for wrong causes, of which Mahmudur Rahman was critical and vocal, is now pathetically timid and shy.
> The government is filing one case after another against Mahmudur Rahman in order to keep him in the jail. A transparent judicial process free from the manipulation of the ruling regime could definitely conclude that all these allegations are simply fabricated, nasty tricks of politics. Nevertheless, what concerns us gravely is the repeated attempt to take Mahmudur Rahman for remand. Human Rights Defenders of Bangladesh are worried, because there was series of attempts on his life on several occasion. There is a culture of custodial torture and death in Bangladesh. In its latest update on Mahmudur Rahman the internationally acclaimed human rights organisation Odhikar in a statement issued on 6 June 2010 expressed their concern about the safety and life of Mahmudur Rahman. The Statement says:
>
> Mahmudur Rahman, the Acting Editor of the Bengali Daily Amar Desh, was arrested under sections 419, 420 and 500 of the Code of Criminal Procedure under the Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station Case No. 1(6)2010 and again under sections 143, 342, 332, 353, 186, 506, 114 of the Code of Criminal Procedure under the Tejgaon Police Station Case No 2(6)2010 on June 2, 2010. Mahmudur Rahman got bail in the first case but in the second case, which was filed after his arrest, he was not granted bail and sent to prison. However, today on June 6, 2010, a third case has been filed against him, Case No.5 (6)2010 at the Kotwali Police Station. He was charged for obstructing government officials in their function, while he was already in custody. The prosecution prayed for seven days remand. On top of this, according to newspaper reports, the government is preparing a sedation case against him. The chain of events is very alarming. It is to be noted that Mahmudur Rahman has been physically attacked a couple of times. Heavy stones and bricks have been thrown at his car in Bangladesh and he was also attacked with a sharp object during his visit to London, which could have fatally injured him. Given this history the repeated attempts by the government to take him to remand is of grave concern to us.
>
> Odhikar has always fought against custodial torture and death. Despite the fact that the government has made repeated promises to the international community regarding upholding human rights, gross violations of human rights have not abated in the country. In this context, Odhikar is deeply concerned about the life and safety of Mahmudur Rahman. We therefore, appeal to all the human rights defenders to write to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to ensure the safety of Mahmudur Rahman and to stop all attempts to take him into remand, against the fundamental principles of human rights and international norms.

> According to the reports published in today's newspapers, another case has been filed against Mahmudur Rahman in Uttara police station, and the petitioner asked to take him to remand for 10 days. The repeated attempts to take Mahmudur Rahman to 'remand' is a very bad sign Unless human rights defenders mobilise opinion and protests we might be guilty of allowing a repressive government to indulge in grave human rights violation.
> We have below recall the chronology of events that led to the arrest of Mahmudur Rahman to dispel government's claim that Amardesh has violated existing law regarding press and publications.
>
> Chronology of Events
>
> 26 April, 2009: Amar Desh Publications Ltd informed the District Commissioner of Dhaka by a written letter stating that according to the decision of the Board of Directors the chairman of the Company Mahmudur Rahman is appointed as the Acting Editor of Amar Desh. It may be mentioned here that according to the Printing Press and Publication Act, 1973 the Ditrict Commissioner must be informed about appointing – withdrawal of Editor of Newspaper.
> 16 June, 2009: The Special Police- Super of Dhaka on behalf of District Commissioner informed Amar Desh Publications Ltd. that the District Commissioner has No Objection to the appointment of the Acting Editor.
> 3 September, 2009: The Amar Desh Publications Ltd applied to the District Commissioner to change of the name of Publisher, as per the Printing Press and Publication Act, 1973 and declared that in the court. At the same time, the replacement of the old publisher with the name of Mahmudur Rahman as the new publisher was formally notified to the District Commissioner in accordance with the law.
> 11 October, 2009: The Publisher Hasmat Ali Hashu went to the District Commissioner's office and signed the appropriate form stating his resignation as the publisher. This information was given by the District Commissioner in BBC interview.
> 5 November, 2009: The Film and Publications Directorate gave a No Objection Certificate for the change of publisher. The letter signed by Deputy Director Masuda Khatun stated, "The name of Alhaj. Hashmat Ali, publisher of Daily Amar Desh can be replaced with the name of Mahmudur Rahman".
> 15 March, 2010: The District Commissioner of Dhaka enquired to Amar Desh Publications Limited why the name of Hashmat Ali Hashu is still on the printer's line of the newspaper? In reply, Amar Desh informed that they were still waiting for the reply from the District Commissioner's office for their letter of notification to the District Commissioner. So they were compelled to continue the name of the earlier publisher according to the Printing Press and Publication Act, 1973. Accordingly, the company requested the DC office to expedite their decision.
> 1 June, 2010: The Tejgaon Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) raided the press of the daily Amar Desh with armed forces and declared its closure by sealing the Press. They reported to the news media that since there was no legal publisher of the newspaper the declaration has been cancelled by the District Commissioner. However, they could not produce any paper in this regard. The papers were not even received by Amar Desh authorities from 1 June to 2nd June.
> BBC (Bangla) Radio interview of the District Commissioner Mr. Muhibul Haque on 2nd June, 2010 is the only government version on the government action regarding the cancellation of the Declaration of Amar Desh.
> The english translation of the transcript of the BBC interview
> DC: Actually there is no publisher of Amar Desh at present. It means, there is no legal publisher. According to the Article 5 of the Press and Publication Act, 1973, any news paper must have a publisher and according to article 7, he must sign a declaration in our office. The publisher of this newspaper has signed a paper about his resignation as the publisher.
> BBC: when did he do that?
> DC: He signed on 11 October, 2009. The publisher was Alhaj Md. Hashmat Ali.
> BBC: 11 October, 2009 ... and now it is 2010. So what happened all these days. Did you ask the Amar Desh the reason ......
> DC: Yes, we wanted to know; we have given an official letter. They responded to us. They informed that there was no publisher; so this newspaper cannot be allowed ...... So I cancelled the declaration. I have done that.
> BBC: So when you sent a letter to Amar Desh, did they agree in writing that that they did not have any publisher?
> DC: yes, they did not have any publisher; they told us that they did not have a publisher.
> BBC: And when did they inform you?
> DC: They have informed us few days before
> BBC: But who responded to your letter on behalf of Amar Desh. If they did not have a publisher?
> DC: The Acting Editor
> BBC: Amar Desh has told us that they sent a letter to you for your approval of the change of the publisher's name. Then what happened?
> DC: Not for the change of publisher. The earlier publisher signed a form of resignation. Then another person wanted to become the publisher, but it did not fit into our criteria, therefore was refused. So now there is no publisher of Amar Desh.
> BBC: What does it mean that it did not fit into your criteria? If you could explain the process of your refusal of the request for change of publisher's name...
> DC: The process is that according to the Act, they have applied for approval, then we gave it for investigation. There was a negative response from the investigation. So we could not give approval to the publisher who has applied. Mahmudur Rahman has applied, but we could not appoint him...
> BBC: Why was his application rejected? Can you please tell us, what was the problem found against him in the investigation...
> DC: We have given an official letter regarding this. There are many issues here. This cannot be explained in such a short time....
> BBC: When did you let him know about it?
> DC: Today, we informed him....
> ..........................................
> Amar Desh's communication with DC
> We have the letters that Amar Desh provided to the district administration to go by the existing Press and Publication Act. Till today, 7 June 2010, the interview given by the District Commissioner to BBC Bangla is the only position one could guess as government's position, that could hardly stand the court of law. This is the reason why government is desperate to fabricate various other cases against him.
> In response to BBC's 1st question the DC admitted that in 11th October 2009 the ex-publisher resigned formally. But what he hided is, 3 months before the resignation of ex-publisher, in 3rd September 2009 the authority of the Amar Desh Publications Ltd. formally informed district administration by written letter that, the company has changed the publisher and it is applying for the no-objection letter from the administration in this regard. The Deputy Commissioner is conspicuously silent on this matter in order to justify fabricated charge against Mahmudur Rahman. The claim that Amar Desh dos not have a publisher implies that through administrative inaction the District Commissioner intended to efface the existence of an editor as well as the on going administrative and legal process to regularise the change of ownership and appoinment of editoror other matters. The DC should either have clearly notified to the authorities of Amar Desh that Mahmudur Rahman is not acceptable. In that case the Amar Desh could come up with different name.
> The DC said, "They informed that they (Amar Desh) have no publisher". Nevertheless, in response of administrations 15th march's letter there is no such word in Amar Desh's letter. Furthermore, the newspaper authority reminded the administration that as they did not say anything at all about Amar Desh's 3rd September 2009 letter regarding the alteration of publisher, they are writing the name of their old publisher. According to the Press and Publication Acts this was the only option available to Amar Desh.
> The farce of the whole drama reaches the apex when DC told that, "we informed today (1st June)". What it implies? It means by sending riot police into newspapers office to shut down the press and illegally breaking and entering into newspapers office without any warrant, beating journalists and later snatching the editor, the govt. indeed brutally communicated to Amar Desh authority that, "we could not approve Mahmudur Rahman to be the publisher".
> Reporters from Chintaa were present throughout the night along with other reporters from various media to witness the midnight raid and the brutality with which a dissent voice has been silenced. There was no official letter sent to Amar Desh's office. It was blatantly an operation to demonstrate that government does not care about the rule of law, and have absolutely no hesitation to violate human rights, particularly the violation of the constitutional guarantee of freedom of thought, conscious and expression.
> Prime Minister took charge of District Deputy Commissioner!
> The information minister told parliament in 2 June, "It is the duty of DC to postpone newspapers declaration". According to 1973 Printing Press and Publications act it is the duty of DC indeed. But, after the application of Amar Desh to the Film and Publication office of the government, although the intelligence agency gave clearance, the DC office was not giving clearance on the ground that Prime Ministers office did not give clearance. Off the record, the DC office officials admitted the fact that this issue was under judgment in prime ministers office. Our question is that when did the Prime Minister take the charge of Deputy Commissioner?
> The fact might be that exclusively in the case of Mahmudur Rahman the prime minister has degraded her to the office of District Commissioner, a shame for both the government and the country. As if that was not enough she had to finally send police, disconnect satellite TV connection and escalator, create blockade, refuse food and water to be supplied to the people in the Amar Desh office, beat the journalists by batons, and vilently snatch the editor Mahmudur Rahman without any papers or warrant. Defiance of all constitutional rights, law and international norms of human rights the act of the government is hardly different from any armed criminals or terrorists. Proving again, that the state terrorism is the first and foremost evil people must confront if they are determined to create a democratic polity.
> Whereas the police was supposed to be tried because of breaking and entering into a private establishment of newspaper illegally, the police filed new case against Mahmudur Rahman on the ground, what they call preventing police from their duties.
> The closure of Amadesh and arresting Mahmudur Rahman signals the rapidly deteriorating political scenario of Bangladesh. It is urgent that the grievous threat to democracy and freedom of speech and media is condemned globally. It happened in a row of the closure of 2 TV channels and Facebook for so called sensitive reasons. This govt. did ban YouTube in the February 2009 as well.
> Arresting the editor of Amar Desh by Riot Police and trying to take him to remand for the so called 'interrogation' at any cost demonstrate elements of virulence within certain section of the government and it is urgent that government is warned of this move. The remand system is notorious for inhuman torture and sometimes it makes lifetime trauma. The journalists and other democratic activists fear that the repeated remand application by a section of the people in the government is only to brutally assault Mr. Mahmudur Rahman, rsponsibility of which consequently will have to be shoulderd by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government as a whole.

Actually, what came up first was disgust at the incredible level of smugness that was on display as Matiur Rahman pretended that the change of government that took place on January 11, 2007 did not happen with his direct knowledge and collusion. But eventually, on a second and third reading, some questions did come up.
> >The intial point that struck me was the sheer disregard of journalistic ethos that Mr. Rahman puts on display here. If any of us bloggers had written this piece, our inboxes would be flooded by now with demands that we either back up what we wrote as facts or admit that they are baseless innuendo. I do not see why the standard should be any different for the editor of Bangladesh’s most widely-circulated Bangla newspaper. In his article, Matiur Rahman states:
> >    * After last year’s election, a powerful portion of the Army wanted Moeen’s tenure as Army Chief extended by another year.
> >    * Presumably the same part of the Army wanted Moeen to become either Defense Minister or the “Joint Chief of Staff.”
> >    * After the Pilkhana massacre, Army officers openly criticized Moeen, inside and outside the Army, for not being able to save the lives of his men.
> >    * The Government would still like to reward Moeen.
> >    * Diplomatic sources say that Moeen may be made the Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.
> >Let us take these points one by one. After Moeen toppled the caretaker government in 2007 and promoted himself to General, he spent a great deal of time and energy putting his men in as many key army positions as he could, and sending army officers who refused to countenance his authority into forced retirement. Thus, it is probably not a surprise that Moeen still has a constituency left in the Army, even though, ideally, the entire Army should be his constituency.
> >That there were ever any suggestions of Moeen being made Defense Minister or Joint Chief of Staff is quiet sensational news. If Motiur Rahman knew about this previously but did not inform us, his readers, he has done us a great disservice. As far as I know, Bangladesh has never had a Defense Minister, with the Prime Minister not being able to trust anyone else (unwisely, in my opinion) with this portfolio. For a very brief period of time, Khandoqar Mushtaq’s government did set up a Combined Chief of Staff, but that was more to keep Maj. Gen. Ziaur Rahman, as Army Chief, from having any real power, than anything else. Moeen has already permanently distorted our defense establishment by promoting himself to General rank, giving nations around the world one more reason to titter at us behind our back. Appointing the same man to one of the posts described above would have been a momentous step; one we deserved to hear about ahead of time.
> >The Pilkhana massacre laid bare the full extent of the damage that Moeen had done to the very institution he was supposed to protect and safeguard: the Bangladesh Army. Barely two years after he had stormed into Bongobhaban,  the Presidential Palace, and forced President Iajuddin Ahmed to retire as Chief Advisor, a democratic government barely two months old could scarcely trust him to again lead an operation in the heart of Dhaka. And so it was they fifty-plus of our officers were tortured and killed, while the government sat and dithered before, first allowing enough armour units to enter Dhaka, and then letting them approach Pilkhana. Moeen has undone the work of thousands of honest and dedicated officers who obeyed the constitutional dictate that our armed forces stay subservient to the civilian government, through his coup in 2007 and the torture he inflicted on a broad swathe of politicians from all across the political spectrum the next two
> years. Going forward, it will take years to mend the damage he has wrought.
> >Therefore, we do not see how Matiur Rahman can now claim that Army officers have criticized and blamed Moeen for the loss of lives in Pilkhana. Why was Matiur Rahman silent when the government instituted an Army-probe into this massacre under the same person who was blamed for letting it happen? How could such a probe have any credibility with members of our armed forces, let alone the general public?
> >Even after making these incredible allegations, Matiur Rahman then turns around and claims that even after the Pilkhana massacre, the government would like to still reward Moeen. The question begs to be asked, what is the government rewarding Moeen for? Providing the incompetent leadership that allowed so many of his men to be killed? Indirectly causing the mutiny â€" by green-lighting the BDR into Operation DalBhaat? Or, as Matiur Rahman hints near the end, because of the election held in 29 December, 2008? Do we really want to become a nation that remains in thrall to its Army Chief for allowing elections to go through?
> >And do we really want our United Nations representative to be a wannabe military strongman? Asif Ali Zardari and Pervez Musharraf made a far more explicit pact after the Pakistani election. But even Musharraf did not have the gumption of trying to claim diplomatic immunity and representing our country in the world stage.
> >Of course, if Moeen ever leaves Bangladesh, we can rest assured he will never return again. His underling Brig. Fazlul Bari had the right idea when he decided he liked America too much. One can confidently expect Moeen to follow suit; he has already made his liking for the balmy climate of Florida well-known. Perhaps, once they are united there, advance accommodations could be arranged for Gen. Masud as well.
> >Fighting the rearguard battle to justify his own support for the overthrow of the CTG in 2007, Matiur Rahman claims that the new regime had “massive support” from the people. Yet, in the very next sentence, he is forced to acknowledge that Awami League only supported this move initially, until the true nature of the regime that followed became clear and Sheikh Hasina was herself thrown into jail after she spoke out against military intervention, through DGFI, in politics. BNP, of course, never supported the regime. Then how does Matiur Rahman find broad support for a regime which is not supported by BNP and AL, which together represent about 260 of the 300 seats in both the current as well as the former parliament?
> >The job of a newspaper editor is different from that of a gossip columnist. It is really different from that of a sycophant. Unfortuna tely, Mr. Matiur Rahman seems unclear about both these distinctions. The activities of our last regime left behind enough tar to cover most of its proponents and supporters. With this piece, Matiur Rahman just slapped some more tar firmly on his face.

[ALOCHONA] Saudi Arabia: We will not give Israel air corridor for Iran strike

Saudi Arabia: We will not give Israel air corridor for Iran strike

Prince Mohammed bin Nawaf refutes Times of London report saying Saudi Arabia practiced standing down its anti-aircraft systems to allow an Israeli bomb run.

Saudi Arabia would not allow Israeli bombers to pass through its airspace en route to a possible strike of Iran's nuclear facilities, a member of the Saudi royal family said Saturday, denying an earlier Times of London report.

Earlier Saturday, the Times reported that Saudi Arabia has practiced standing down its anti-aircraft systems to allow Israeli warplanes passage on their way to attack Iran's nuclear installations, adding that the Saudis have allocated a narrow corridor of airspace in the north of the country.

Prince Mohammed bin Nawaf, the Saudi envoy to the U.K. speaking to the London-based Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat, denied that report, saying such a move "would be against the policy adopted and followed by the Kingdom." According to Asharq al-Awsat report, bin Nawaf reiterated the Saudi Arabia's rejection of any violation of its territories or airspace, adding that it would be "illogical to allow the Israeli occupying force, with whom Saudi Arabia has no relations whatsoever, to use its land and airspace."

Earlier, the Times quoted an unnamed U.S. defense source as saying that "the Saudis have given their permission for the Israelis to pass over and they will look the other way. "They have already done tests to make sure their own jets aren't scrambled and no one gets shot down. This has all been done with the agreement of the [U.S.] State Department."

Once the Israelis had passed, the kingdom's air defenses would return to full alert, the Times said.Despite tensions between them, Israel and Saudi Arabia share a mutual hostility to Iran. "We all know this. We will let them [the Israelis] through and see nothing," the Times quoted a Saudi government source as saying.

According to the report, the four main targets for an Israeli raid on Iran would be uranium enrichment facilities at Natanz and Qom, a gas storage development at Isfahan and a heavy-water reactor at Arak. Secondary targets may include a Russian-built light water reactor at Bushehr, which could produce weapons-grade plutonium when complete.

Even with midair refueling, the targets would be as the far edge of Israeli bombers' range at a distance of some 2,250km. An attack would likely involve several waves of aircraft, possibly crossing Jordan, northern Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

Aircraft attacking Bushehr, on the Gulf coast, could swing beneath Kuwait to strike from the southwest, the Times said. Passing over Iraq would require at least tacit consent to the raid from the United States, whose troops are occupying the country. So far, the Obama Administration has refused this.

On Wednesday the United Nations passed a fourth round of sanctions against Iran in an attempt to force it to stop enriching uranium. But immediately after the UN vote, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad vowed the nuclear program would continue.

Israel hailed the vote – but said sanctions were not enough and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has refused to rule out a raid. Netanyahu's predecessor, Ehud Olmert, is believed to have held secret meetings with high-ranking Saudi officials over Iran.

Times OnlineJune 12, 2010
Saudi Arabia gives Israel clear skies to attack Iranian nuclear sites

Saudi Arabia has conducted tests to stand down its air defences to enable Israeli jets to make a bombing raid on Iran's nuclear facilities, The Times can reveal.

In the week that the UN Security Council imposed a new round of sanctions on Tehran, defence sources in the Gulf say that Riyadh has agreed to allow Israel to use a narrow corridor of its airspace in the north of the country to shorten the distance for a bombing run on Iran.

To ensure the Israeli bombers pass unmolested, Riyadh has carried out tests to make certain its own jets are not scrambled and missile defence systems not activated. Once the Israelis are through, the kingdom's air defences will return to full alert.

"The Saudis have given their permission for the Israelis to pass over and they will look the other way," said a US defence source in the area. "They have already done tests to make sure their own jets aren't scrambled and no one gets shot down. This has all been done with the agreement of the [US] State Department."

Sources in Saudi Arabia say it is common knowledge within defence circles in the kingdom that an arrangement is in place if Israel decides to launch the raid. Despite the tension between the two governments, they share a mutual loathing of the regime in Tehran and a common fear of Iran's nuclear ambitions. "We all know this. We will let them [the Israelis] through and see nothing," said one.

The four main targets for any raid on Iran would be the uranium enrichment facilities at Natanz and Qom, the gas storage development at Isfahan and the heavy-water reactor at Arak. Secondary targets include the lightwater reactor at Bushehr, which could produce weapons-grade plutonium when complete.

The targets lie as far as 1,400 miles (2,250km) from Israel; the outer limits of their bombers' range, even with aerial refuelling. An open corridor across northern Saudi Arabia would significantly shorten the distance. An airstrike would involve multiple waves of bombers, possibly crossing Jordan, northern Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Aircraft attacking Bushehr, on the Gulf coast, could swing beneath Kuwait to strike from the southwest.

Passing over Iraq would require at least tacit agreement to the raid from Washington. So far, the Obama Administration has refused to give its approval as it pursues a diplomatic solution to curbing Iran's nuclear ambitions. Military analysts say Israel has held back only because of this failure to secure consensus from America and Arab states. Military analysts doubt that an airstrike alone would be sufficient to knock out the key nuclear facilities, which are heavily fortified and deep underground or within mountains. However, if the latest sanctions prove ineffective the pressure from the Israelis on Washington to approve military action will intensify. Iran vowed to continue enriching uranium after the UN Security Council imposed its toughest sanctions yet in an effort to halt the Islamic Republic's nuclear programme, which Tehran claims is intended for civil energy purposes only. President Ahmadinejad has described the UN resolution as "a used handkerchief, which should be thrown in the dustbin".

Israeli officials refused to comment yesterday on details for a raid on Iran, which the Prime Minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, has refused to rule out. Questioned on the option of a Saudi flight path for Israeli bombers, Aharaon Zeevi Farkash, who headed military intelligence until 2006 and has been involved in war games simulating a strike on Iran, said: "I know that Saudi Arabia is even more afraid than Israel of an Iranian nuclear capacity."

In 2007 Israel was reported to have used Turkish air space to attack a suspected nuclear reactor being built by Iran's main regional ally, Syria. Although Turkey publicly protested against the "violation" of its air space, it is thought to have turned a blind eye in what many saw as a dry run for a strike on Iran's far more substantial — and better-defended — nuclear sites.

Israeli intelligence experts say that Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan are at least as worried as themselves and the West about an Iranian nuclear arsenal.Israel has sent missile-class warships and at least one submarine capable of launching a nuclear warhead through the Suez Canal for deployment in the Red Sea within the past year, as both a warning to Iran and in anticipation of a possible strike. Israeli newspapers reported last year that high-ranking officials, including the former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, have met their Saudi Arabian counterparts to discuss the Iranian issue.

It was also reported that Meir Dagan, the head of Mossad, met Saudi intelligence officials last year to gain assurances that Riyadh would turn a blind eye to Israeli jets violating Saudi airspace during the bombing run. Both governments have denied the reports.

[ALOCHONA] ‘What I Have Written Shouldn’t Surprise Indians’

'What I Have Written Shouldn't Surprise Indians'

Spanish author Javier Moro tells VAIBHAV VATS why the controversy surrounding his book on Sonia Gandhi, The Red Sari, is senseless

Your book has been out in the Spanish-speaking world since 2008. What has been the reaction?
The reaction has been great — it has been a huge success. Sonia Gandhi is a fascinating character, rising from rural Italy to rule over a billion people. Those generating the controversy have not read the book.

What sparked off your interest in Sonia Gandhi?
I'm Dominique Lapierre's nephew. He was a friend of Indira Gandhi, and used to visit her house every time he came to India. That sparked off my interest in India. The other interesting thing was the fact that Sonia was European. This was a very good vehicle to explore 60 years of the Gandhi family, in a book written primarily for European readers.

Is your book a fictionalised biography or non-fiction?
I wanted to write a biography of Sonia Gandhi, but I couldn't get access to her or her family. I did not invent any characters. I've invented dialogue for necessary reasons, but whatever I've written should not surprise Indians.

Why has the book generated controversy?
Because I have desacralised Sonia, and spoken of her as a human being. There is a culture of sycophancy within the Congress party, and people are jostling to score points.

'This is not just a book about Sonia. It starts with Motilal Nehru, and in 600 pages, covers the Gandhi family'

Sonia's lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi, has picked out instances in the book for the defamation case.
That's very easy to do. That's what all lawyers do — take a line out of context and manipulate the meaning. There is no defamation in the book.

You say it's a fictionalised biography, but in the Spanish press, you had said that it was a work of non-fiction?
I had told the Spanish media that it is a novel of non-fiction, a term used in Spain to differentiate between novels like the Lord of the Rings and novels based on a true story. To pick that line is to create a case out of nothing. The image of my book being burnt by the Youth Congress in European media resembles fascism. This is intolerance, and it's dangerous.

What drew you to the fictionalised biography format?
That word has been used by Singhvi — I never said it was a fictionalised biography. In no edition has it been written that it is a fictionalised biography, because it is not just the story of Sonia. It starts with Motilal Nehru. It's a 600-page book, but it's told through the eyes of a westerner. One can't understand Sonia Gandhi and the hard choices she had to make in life until you understand Nehru, Indira and Rajiv.

When did you realise the English version was in trouble? The Congress says they sent you a notice in November 2009.
Yes, that was the first one. We have been talking for six months, and I even accepted a disclaimer. Now they are saying this disclaimer is not in the book, which is a lie. My publishers sent me samples of the book, where the disclaimer is shown prominently. Singhvi is a manipulative man.

What research did you do for the book? Any sources in the political establishment that gave you information?
I was not looking for exclusive information. My sources were secondary — books, articles published in the Indian press, etc. The only sources I had were people who had befriended the Gandhis, and Sonia's neighbours and friends in Italy.

Do you plan to fight this till the very end?
No, for me, India is a small market. I'm more interested in the rest of the world.

[ALOCHONA] Rice is the worst enemy of mankind [1 Attachment]

[Attachment(s) from Dr. Bashir Mahmud Ellias included below]

Rice  is  the  worst  enemy  of  mankind

What  is  the  main  obstacle  of  our  country's (Bangladesh)  development (-prosperity- improvement-betterment) ?  If  it  is  asked,  certainly  different  people  will  give  different  answer.  But  if  you  analyze  it  from  the  view-point  of  medical  science,  then  I  will  say  rice  is  our  worst  national  enemy.  Rice  is  such  a  prominent  food  item  which  contains  excessive  amount  of  sugar (starch/carbohydrate).  So  it  hastens  our  physical  growth  &   we  become  adult (mature)  very  quickly.  That's  why  we  get  married  promptly  &  start  having  babies  more  speedily.  Sometimes  it  seems  to  me  that  just  a  few  days  ago  a  guy  who  himself  was  a  baby,  now  he  is  completely  exhausted (-fagged-worn-out)  being  a  father  or  grandfather  of  many  children.  That  means  eating  rice  is  the  root  cause  of  population  explosion  in  such  a  dreadful  manner.  If  you  don't  believe  you  can  look on  the  rice-eating  countries,  like  china-india-indonesia-Bangladesh-thailand-japan-korea,  all  of  them  are  going  through  population  problem  in  the  highest  degree.  For  the  unimaginable  explosion  of  population,  government  become  a  failure  even  spending  billions  of  dollar  annually  to  provide  our  basic  needs  like  food,  cloth,  residence,  education  &  health.

Rice  not  only  make  us  adult (mature)  very  quickly,  but  also  rapidly  converts  us  to  old  guys.  As  a  result  we  become  incompetent (&  worthless)  for  any  jobs  and  turn  to  a  burden  to  the  family (&  thus to  the  society  &  country).  As  because  in  old  age  we  lack  energy  to  work  &  various  diseases  invade  our  body  &  mind.  It  is  true  that  sugar (starch/carbohydrate)  is  the  only  source  of  our  physical  energy  &  we  can  not  survive  without  it.  But  it  is  also  true  that  excessive  supply  of  sugar (starch/carbohydrate)  is  horribly  harmful  for  us.  It  can  be  reasonably  compared  to  water.  We  all  know  that  normal  water  is  the  root  cause  of  our  live  &  flood  (i.e.  excess)  water  causes  our  death.  In  our  country  almost  ninety  percent  of  people  found  to  be  have  gastric  ulcer  who  visits  doctor.  Excessive  amount  of  sugar (starch/carbohydrate)  in  rice  causes  flatulency (gas)  in  the  stomach,  gas  formation  tends  to  the  acidity  &  acidity  leads  to  ulcer.  Perhaps  nobody  will  deny  the  fact  that  rice  is  the  root  cause  of  diabetes (I  mean  from  the  imbalance  of  carbohydrate  produced  by  rice  in  our  body  for  many  years).  You  will  not  find  gastric  ulcer  &  diabetes  epidemic  in  those  countries  where  (wheat)  bread  is  the  main  food  item.  Now  I  am  to  say  that  this  poor  country  has  to  waste  millions  of  dollars  every  year  to  import  the  medicines  only  for  this  two  diseases.

Some  may  say  that  most  of  the  medicines  of  this  two  diseases  are  manufactured  in  our  country.  Yea,  that's  right ;  but  raw  materials,  machinery,  packing  items  all  are  have  to  import.  There  are  many  pathological  test  done  to  diagnose  these  diseases  and  these  diagnostic  machineries  &  chemical  reagents  are  also  have  to  import  spending  lot  of  foreign  currencies.  Yet  we  can  ignore  the  squandering  of  invaluable  time (working  hour)  in  the  doctor's  chamber,  hospital  &  sick-bed.  Not  only  these  two  diseases  but  hundreds  of  diseases  can  be  named  having  link  with  this  notorious  rice.  According  to  the  physicians,  there  is  no  difference  between  eating  a  handful  of  rice  &  a  handful  of  sugar.  You  may  say  that  laziness  is  the  main  obstacle  in  the  way  of  our  country's  development  rather  than  rice.  Then  I  will  say  that  rice  creates  laziness  in  our  body  &  mind.  The  excessive  amount  of  sugar/carbohydrate  in  rice  is  the  real  cause  of  laziness.  As  it  is  usually  seen  we  become  exhausted  from  least  exertion,  excessive  amount  of  sugar  in  rice  is  responsible  for  this  situation.

As  rice  contains  immoderate  amount  of  sugar  &  after  eating  rice  it  is  digested  quickly  &  the  principal  ingredient (sugar)  is  quickly  absorbed  in  our  bloodstream  &  the  sugar  level  suddenly  become  high,  so  we  begin  to  feel  drowsy,  weak  &  lazy  like  a  diabetic  patient.  You  can  say,  Japanese (, Chinese  &  Koreans)  are  also  rice  eater  &  still  they  are  not  lazy (like  us);  on  the  contrary  they  are  very  much  active  &  hardworking  &  they  don't  become  tired  from  little  labor.  Yea,  in  this  regard  they  got  some  climatic  advantage.  They  don't  sweat  so  much  even  during  hard  work  because  of  their  cold  weather,  as  we  do.  As  a  result  they  don't  break-away  easily  from  little  labor  like  us.  Moreover  people  of  Mongolian  origin (flat-nose)  are  anthropologically  very  much  energetic  &  industrious.  On  the  contrary  we  sweat  much  because  of  our  hot  &  damp  weather  and  that's  why  we  get  easily  tired,  exhausted  through  losing  essential  mineral  salts  with  sweats.  So  excess  sugar  in  rice  &  excess  sweating  both  are  equally  responsible  for  our  laziness,  debility  &  inactivity.  Some  pundits  oppose  that  not  rice  but  excessive  eating  of  rice  is  injurious  to  health.  But  the  problem  is  that  rice  has  such  a  peculiar  uncontrollable  temptation  to  eat  excess  that  few  of  us  has  the  power  to  knock out  such  seduction.  Contrarily  it  is  very  difficult  for  anybody  to  eat  excess  of  wheat  bread.  As  because  rice  is  soft  &  wet (that's  why  easy  to  eat)  and  wheat  bread  is  hard  &  dry.

Somebody  may  say  that  poverty  is  our  most  vital  problem.  If  you  think  little  deeply  then  you  will  realize  that  rice  is  the  basic  cause  of  our  incurable  poverty.  As  because  if  we  fill  our  stomach  with  rice  unto  the  nose,  it  will  digest  &  absorbed  so  quickly  that  within  two  hours  we  will  become  hungry  again.  So  we  have  to  eat  too  much  &  our  expenditure  on  food  purpose  become  high  &  it  force  us  to  reduce  expenditure  on  other  fields (like  health,  education,  infrastructure  etc) .  Look  at  our  physical  strength  or  (slender)  physical  structure ;  both  are  ridiculous,  pathetic.  And  the  notorious  (black  sheep)  rice  is  responsible  for  this  poor  status.  You  will  obviously  understand  the  demerits  of  rice  if  you  compare  the  physical  structure  of  rice-eater  Indians,  Chinese  &  Indonesians  with  wheat-eater  Arabian,  European  &  American.  You  will  certainly  notice  that  players  of  rice-eating  countries  can  not  do  much  well  in  the  strenuous  games  (like  football,  cricket,  marathon,  wrestling  etc).  The  reason  is  same  and  that  is  if  we  eat  rice  our  blood  sugar  level (energy)  rises  to  the  highest  level  for  a  short  time  &  then  it  again  reduce  to  an  alarmingly  lowest  position.

On  the  contrary,  if  you  eat  wheat (bread)  it  will  digest  steadily  taking  much  time  &  that's  why  your  blood  sugar  level  will  not  suddenly  jump  to  highest  level  for  a  little  while.  As  a  result  your  calorie/ energy  level  will  remain  in  standard  position  comparatively  for  longer  time.  Like  rice  it  does  not  suddenly  rise  to  the  highest  level  &  then  fall  to  the  lowest  level.  If  we  do  not  start  eating  wheat  bread  quickly  in  stead  of  rice,  then  the  millions  of  dollars  our  government  is  wasting  every  year  for  family  planning,  will  have  to  continue  for  how  many  years  Allah  knows !  On  the  contrary,  governments  of  the  wheat-eater  countries  (like  Middle  east,  Australia,  Europe,  America,  Russia  etc)  are  facing  failure  to  increase  their  population  even  offering  billion  dollars  bonus  to  their  couples.  Some  analyst  thinks  that  poverty  &  ignorance  are  responsible  for  overpopulation,  not  rice.  If  you  look  at  the  Arab  countries  you  will  see  that  their  education  rate  very  low  &  still  they  are  free  from  overpopulation.  And  there  was  no  population  problem  even  (a  few  decades  ago)  when  they  were  poor.

Some  people  think  that  illiteracy  is  the  main  problem  in  the  way  of  our  national  prosperity.  In  this  point  we  can  say  that  poverty  is  responsible  for  illiteracy,  over-population  is  responsible  for  poverty  &  rice  is  responsible  for  over-population.  Recently  many  people  are  claiming  that  corruption  is  our  chief  national  problem.  Think  in  this  way  that  poverty-illiteracy-unawareness  is  responsible  for  corruption  &  in  our  country  the  primary  cause  of  poverty  &  illiteracy  is  overpopulation.  Population  not  being  a  blessing  rather  has  become  a  curse  &  rice  is  mainly  responsible  for  this  kind  of  consequence.  Some  savant  says  that  Japan  is  an  overpopulated  country  and  still  there  is  no  problem  as  their  people  are  highly  skilled.  Really  Japan  is  an  exception  &  exception  can  not  be  taken  as  a  formula.  So  we  have  to  entirely  give  up  the  habit  of  eating  rice  from  right  now  &  start  having  wheat  flour  bread  in  order  to  build  a  healthy  &  happy  nation.  (Common  oat  (avena  sativa)  flour  is  more  healthier  than  wheat  flour.  Because  one  of  the  greatest  vitamines  are  usually  made  from  its  juice)  I  know  this  is  a  difficult  job  and  it  can  not  be  done  overnight  but  we  must  try  our  best.

Another  problem  is  that  our  women  community  are  more  interested  in  cooking  rice  than  baking  wheat  bread.  As  because  cooking  rice  is  very  easy  but  baking  wheat  bread  is  much  hard.  At  the  same  time  women  should  think  that  to  eat  rice  we  need  to  cook  many  delicious  curry  but  to  eat  wheat  bread  these  are  not  essential.  Only  potato  fry  or  pulse's  soup  is  enough.  At  this  cost  we  can  buy  seasonal  fruits  with  the  money  usually  spent  for  vegetables.  That  would  be  also  better  for  our  health.  As  the  vegetables  price  is  sky-high,  it  would  be  wise  to  consume  one  kilogram  fruits  in  lieu  of  three  kilogram  vegetables.  As  we  know  vegetables  contain  less  nutrient  &  yet  most  of  them  are  spoiled  by  heat  during  cooking.  To  save  our  women  from  the  hazard  of  baking  wheat  bread,  the  owner  of  hotel,  restaurant  &  food  industry  can  play  a  vital  role.  They  have  to  given  up  the  habit  of  preparing  incredibly  small  &  thin  bread  fried  with  six  month  old  burnt  oil  &  rather  have  to  begin  making  mega-size  wheat  bread  like  middle  east  countries,  one  of  which  is  enough  for  an   entire  family.  Moreover  we  can  make  wheat  bread  machine  available  in  every  family  like  Europe  &  America.  Some  may  argue  that  wheat  flour  is  more  costly  than  rice,  but  at  the  same  time  they  should  also  consider  the  facts  of  various  diseases  like  diabetes  &  premature  senility.

According  to  the  experts,  wheat  flour's  price  can  be  easily  reduced  by  mixing  corn  maze  with  it.  We  should  also  think  about  huge  amount  of  water  needed  to  produce  paddy (rice),  which  will  be  a  real  problem  in  our  country  in  near  future  (also  for  many  other  countries).  On the contrary  so  much  water  is  not  necessary  for  the  cultivation  of  wheat.  To  acquire  hundred  percent  benefit  from  eating  wheat  bread  we  have  to  consume  unfiltered  natural  flour ;  because  the  food  companies (market  packed  flour)  greatly  reduce  its  nutrient  quality  by  excessively  straining  it (to  make  flour  white).  So  our  request  to  the  government  is  that  govt.  should  encourage  people  to  produce  &  consume  wheat  every  way  (and  discourage  the  rice).  If  it  is  necessary  we  can  depend  on  &  produce  genetically modified (GM)  wheat.  As  GM  food  has  gained  acceptance  in  Europe  &  America,  then  we  should  not  remain  hesitated  about  it.  Moreover  our  holy  prophet (pbuh)  has  given  his  opinion  in  favor  of  genetically modified (GM)  food.  In  one  of  his  sayings  he  said,  'in  the  last  age  there  will  be  superabundance  of  food  grains'.  That  means  rice,  wheat,  onion,  garlic,  fruits,  vegetables  etc  of  mega-size  will  be  invented  &  people  will  be  obliged  to  consume  those (to  get  ride  of  famine).

In the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of night and day; in the ships that sail upon the sea with what is beneficial to the people; in the water which Allah sends down from the sky and with which He revives the earth after its death, and He spread in it from each moving (creation); in the movement of the winds, and in the clouds that are compelled between heaven and earth surely, these are signs for people who understand. [The  holy  Quran : 2:164]
