[ALOCHONA] Bangladesh Politics and its leadership Excellence! - Part 1: Awami League

Bangladesh Politics and its leadership Excellence! - Part 1: Awami League

By Mohammad Gani , USA

SCOPE: It is almost time to say all good about Bangladeshi politics. No wonder why Awami League & BNP has been burgeoning in US, Canada, Europe and many other countries. Finally, their challenging journey to foreign lands has come off with flying colors, with new hopes, spirits and direction under the tutelages of Madam Hasina and madam Khaleda. Just look at what the “un-Common“ has happened in British House of “Commons“ only last Friday (07 May 2010)! Imagine an elected “Awami League MP in British Parliament that generated powerful Tsunami of democracy all over the world.

The fact is, Madam Hasina’s “Awami League candidate“ Rushanara Ali made an unprecedented history by securing decisive victory over Khaleda’s “BNP candidate Ajmal Masroor and “JAMAT candidate Abjol Meah! Another Awami League candidate, grand daughter of our Bongabondho, Tulip Siddiqui easily won a position of City Councilor (at Regent Park Ward in London).

AL MEMBERSHIP INTERVIEW: All these amazing AL resurgence and political success ( in England) has prompted me to become a member of Awami League (US Brigade). So, no time to waste! I then had an “urgent walk-in interview (last weekend) with a powerful Screening Board of Awami League, US Central Command in D.C for its membership enrollment. A three-member delegated Unit (AL) asked me to “briefly explain on what I had known about the background “radiation(history) of Awami League. You know, my heart has been pumping original Bangladeshi blood by all means! So colloquially, I should have known exactly how to make these top notched AL interviewers pleased! What I mean, exactly the way they themselves & all other “Level II leaders deliver the same “stuffs to Madam Sk. Hasina to make her happy!

BRIEF HISTORY OF AWAMI LEAGUE & SK. MUJIB: I respectfully narrated them from the beginning of “All India Muslim League“, then Pakistan Awami Muslim League (23 June 1949) to Awami League (1955), its founding President Mowlana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani along with H. S. Suhrawardy, his visionary disciple, “father of this nation Sk. Mujibur Rahman………..and his uncompromising struggles for the creation of our fatherland Bangladesh as an Independent Nation.

As the follow up, I also proudly mentioned how “Bongabondhu Sk. Mujibur Rahman fought side by side with Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose from his Head Quarter in Yangoon (Rangoon) in Burma (Myanmar) in order to free India from the rogue British imperialism in 1943. I have not forgot to mention that our universal “Kobi-Guru Robindranath Tagore was an aggressive supporter of Awami League and a good friend of Sk. Mujibur Rahman. This nation proudly honor “Kobi-Guru almost 24/7 and Bongabondhu himself gladly accepted one of his poems as our glorious national anthem with thanks. (It was initially introduced in the AIR by Shree Deb Dulal Bondopadday of “Akas-Bani Calcutta/ Kolkata).

SK. HASINA: During her entire life, our honorable Prime Minister Sk. Hasina has been a lady of extraordinary leadership excellence with volcanic patriotism . She is also an unremitting “New-clear War fighter against all digital terrorism & violence, religious fundamentalism and corruptions world wide. Besides so many PhDs those still are unaccounted for, she has become the only proud recipient of “Indira Gandhi Peace Prize, an internationally recognized award from our only “Good & Friendly neighbor India for her unique peace mission in Kashmir, Asam and Chittagong Hill Tracts. Madam Hasina is so popular in India, especially in “Indian occupied West Bengal that a huge majority population there have publicly demanded to draft her as the “Chief Minister of West Bengal in addition to keeping her as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

SK. REHANA: During our 9 months liberation war, Hasina’s younger sister Sk. Rehana successfully chased “Pakistani-General Rao Forman Ali and later butchers Tikka Khan deep into the river “Burigonga who were later found dead in the Yamuna (Zomuna) river.

SAJEEB WAZED (JOY): Our national pride, tenacious Sazeeb Wajed Joy is one of the smartest “Digital Thinking Machine in the history of Bangladesh and could easily make Bangladesh like Singapore in 2 years (as Prime Minister). “Not only that“, I added, “You might wonder, I myself saw JOY leading ‘Bengali Language Movement’ Procession held on 21 February 1952 when our other heroes Salam, Rafique, Barkat and Jabbar were killed by police fire and luckily, JOY narrowly survived except a minor bullet wound in his left feet“.( P.S: I have NOT mentioned anything about JOY’s 7 times arrest records in US that could ruin my AL memership).

MY QUESTION TO THE BOARD: Looked like my “Interview went pretty well! I was then asked if I would have any question! Recognizing with dignity, I only inquired about the “Mission & Vision of Awami League in USA. One of the distinguished team member then said to me, “At this time, our MISSION is receiving all visiting AL leaders from Bangladesh at different US Airports with rancorous welcome; honoring them with red carpet, laudatory reception and surely with standing approbations. Then flooding them with flowers & gifts for their wives & children. However, our ultimate “VISION is still focusing on to and sending Awami League candidates for the US Congress (Senate & House) as we just have done to British Parliament.

INTERVIEW RESULTS: At the last leg of my interview, the Board members profoundly regretted my admissibility as AL member (US) at this time! While they found my Awami League back ground and political wisdom “IMPRESSIVE & PROMISING , I was still falling “way behind on AL extra-curricular activities. They asked me to go to Dhaka University ASAP for 6 months comprehensive FIELD training and re-apply.

CITATION (FACTS): But why? Listen to what our Prime Minister Hasina has said only last week! Immediately after her policy speech on global terrorism, a stupid reporter foolishly asked her, “Madam, who did bomb in Pearl Harbor? A visibly angry Hasina instantly replied, “Didn’t I tell you on the same day that it was the cowardly act of BNP-JAMAT culprits? She was “honestly mentioning of the “bomb explosion at the 6th floor of “Boshundara Mall that caused huge fire and extensive damage to PEARL & JEWELRY Stores there! She reiterated that our Pearl industry should survive Insha-ALLAH. On energy crisis, Hasina firmly said, “We may not have sufficient ENERGY but we have necessary POWER to buy it! Digital energy is coming from India soon. Please have patience. On liberation war, she added “War plans were made as early as 1969.

Why only Hasina! Disgruntle AL Brigadier Sajeda Chowdury recently said, "Khaleda was in the Cantonment under Pakistani Army during 9 months liberation war. She was a informer and a war criminal." [Does any one know what sector Brigadier Sajeda Chowdhury was fighting in 1971?]. If Khaleda is a war criminal, arrest her now! Why waiting for?

Another churlish National Asset, Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir has made a scurrilous demand of apology from Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) ! It is indeed difficult to comprehend that such a genius character like MP Alamgir does not understand that ACC (Anti-Corruption Commission) was only obeying the Commands of then Care Taker Government during the “State of Emergency with suspended Constitution. Has this coward MP M.K. Alamgir any courage asking directly General MoenUddin/Dr. Fakruddin to apologize? I pretty much doubt! This list goes on and on....

SOLUTION(?): Sadly the people of Bangladesh knowingly continue to re-elect political "leaders" that have track records of rampant lying, cheating, stealing, pandering, broken promises and self-serving agendas. They tell us only what we want to hear from them, proselytize us and we vote for them. 160 million people, NOT Hasina or Khaledait are the only authority of bringing this nation’s mission of freedom to come. The two party system that has served only politicians and their intractable lieutenants for almost 19 years must be winding down to a halt now. These governments have lost the sight of what is good for this country, lost credibility and that is a dangerous and slippery slope.

When AL essentially is no better then the BNP, it is time to remove both parties from the playing field and elect another one. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. Let me put this way; we need a leader who must be honest, intelligent, charismatic, warm, genuine, and most importantly, seriously optimistic about the future of our country. The fact is that by now, Bangladeshi have reached at a point where they are mature and passionate enough to elect a stalwart leader for this job beyond Hasina and Khaleda and refurbish the prospect of their future destiny.

CONCLUSION: No, I am not adjudicating AL/BNP nor my anger is against Awami League /BNP as political Party; these 2 major political parties are indeed too broad in Bangladesh and also that politics for them could have been a nobler profession too! This poor nation is disappointed with the ineffective leaderships of Hasina and Khaleda about the way they behave, respond and manage constitutional duties and obligations to 160 millions blue moons of Bangladesh. So, public and media scrutiny are essentials to wake them up! Just imagine them as our national role models who have been whacking this nation from all frontiers with their illusory cronies. I only like these iniquitous bums legitimately thrown out and also pay heavy price.

God doesn't give leader(s) a position of authority to abuse and exploit it but to make their own nation better. Both of them ran/ run the country from their party holes only. See, you can't sacrifice what you don't have! They hide their ugly faces behind the huge billboards of patriotism and pro-liberation force. I find them value deprived buffoons with empty upper chambers (mindless). They will forever remain testaments to the stupidity, arrogance, greed and narrow mindedness in spurious Awami League/ BNP leadership along with their insatiable lieutenants those shall also share the toasty quarters in the hell of eternity (for unjustly depriving this poor nation).

[ALOCHONA] Sweatshop girl

Asma at work

Why Asma, 10, regularly risks her fingers to make safety pins.

As part of a series assessing whether Bangladesh is on track to meet the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015, the BBC's Alastair Lawson visits a safety pin factory in the capital, Dhaka, which employs children.

The electricity supply in the sweatshop in the crowded part of old Dhaka where Asma, 10, makes safety pins for a living is so dangerous that the foreman can only turn on the lights using a broomstick.

"If I use my hands I may get an electric shock," he explains. Asma is one of about 10 workers in the dingy factory - in the heart of the crowded and maze-like alleyways of this part of the city - who are under 14. Sitting on a bench alongside her co-workers, Asma operates a powerful cutting device in the poorly-lit premises for up to 12 hours a day. The safety pins are thinly cut and the machine she operates is cumbersome, heavy and dangerous.

Despite being blessed with nimble fingers and remarkable manual dexterity, if Asma makes one mistake she could easily lose a finger to the gigantic metal puncher she handles so professionally.

Isolated

There is no first aid in the factory and no lunch break. None of the children know what happens to the pins once they have been made and none knows exactly who is employing them. Like many other child workers in Bangladesh, she does not complain of her plight, remaining resolutely cheerful throughout the morning I spent with her.

THE EIGHT MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Asma
Eradicate extreme hunger and poverty
Achieve universal primary education
Promote gender equality and empower women
Reduce child mortality
Improve maternal health
Combat HIV/Aids, malaria and other diseases
Ensure environmental sustainability
Develop a global partnership for development

Asma usually arrives at work at eight in the morning and leaves at eight in the evening. She often works six days a week and is paid about $2 a day.

"I used to study in school then all of a sudden my mum took me out and put me into work. I want to go to school but my mum said I would go again after Eid [the Muslim religious festival]. "So far that has not happened."

Asma explains that as one of six children in her family she and her siblings have no choice but to work. Her father is a bicycle rickshaw puller and does not earn enough money to feed his family. Her mother runs the family's home.

"I was not forced to work here," she says shyly. "The trouble is that if I didn't my family would not have enough money to buy vegetables and we cannot live only on rice."

Asma is one of thousands of Bangladeshi children who work in the informal sector - which includes factories, workshops, home-based businesses and domestic employment. She and others like her are are mostly outside the reach of labour controls, being isolated in the factories and households where they work.

This isolation, combined with the child's dependency on their employer, lays the ground for abuse and exploitation for which they are so poorly protected. To make matters even more complicated, many children in this sector do not have birth certificates, making it harder to validate their ages.

'Unending problem'

UN children's fund spokesman Syeedul Milky says that Asma is part of the 1.3 million children in Bangladesh who work full-time to support their family.

Asma at work
Asma daily risks her fingers in poorly lit hazardous conditions

"For her work is just a way of living - she doesn't know any other kind of life," he said. "I don't think she understands the safety part of her work - neither she nor her workmates wear any safety gear and she seems totally unaware of the hazards.

"It's very saddening to see her working in such terrible conditions, it's also sad that she doesn't know of any alternative life. She has now spent at least a quarter of her life doing this."

The government of Bangladesh and Unicef are at pains to point out that 90% of children of primary school age in the country are in education even though 1.5 million have never enrolled in school.

They say 66,000 poor urban children are now attending a basic education programme run jointly by the two agencies.

Yet Mr Milky concedes that the numbers of children working in the country still remains so large that the Millennium Development Goal of universal primary education for all is unlikely to be reached by 2015.

"The problem is that employers like to take on children because they can pay them less. The parents like children to work because their earnings can help pay household bills. It's a vicious cycle from which it's very hard for children to be extricated."

The UN says that the most common reason for a child not to be enrolled in school is an inability to bear educational expenses. The second most commonly cited reason is the child's participation in household economic activities. "Until this problem is dealt with, child labour in this country is never going away," Mr Milky says.

[ALOCHONA] Four killed in ‘crossfire’

Four crime suspects were killed by the Rapid Action Battalion and the police in 'crossfire' at Ganderia and Mirpur in Dhaka and in the Kushtia district headquarters early Wednesday.
Wednesday's incident took to 181 the total number of extrajudicial killing in incidents such as 'crossfire', 'encounter' or 'gunfight' after January 6, 2009 when the Awami League-led government assumed office.
Twenty-seven people have so far been killed in extrajudicial incidents after the High Court on December 4, 2009 asked the authorities not to kill any more
people in 'crossfire' or 'encounter' until it hears a rule it issued suo moto on the government in connection with extrajudicial killing.
The men killed in 'crossfire' on Wednesday were Mohammad Alauddin, 32, and Suman Rahman, 27, residents of Gendaria, Rahat Ali, 30, a resident of Mirpur while ultra-left outfit operative Milon Fakir alias Jibon, 30, a resident of Shimulia in the Kushtia district headquarters.
In Dhaka, the battalion said its team raided the Albert High School ground at Gendaria about 3:00am on information that some miscreants were holding a meeting there.
'The gangsters fired into the law enforcers, who fired back, leading to a gunfight,' said the RAB 10 commanding officer, SM Kamal Hossain. He said the gunfight had continued for more than half an hour.
Suman and Alauddin, who were wounded in the gunfight, were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where they were pronounced dead soon after their arrival, Kamal Hossain said.
The battalion seized three revolvers and two bullets from the place after the gunfight, the battalion official said.
The police said Alauddin and Suman had been engaged in criminal activities such as murder, abduction and extortion in the city.
They were accused in several cases related to murder and extortion filed with the police, the battalion claimed.
In the other incident in Dhaka, Rahat Ali, suspected of being involved in snatching, was killed by the police in 'encounter' at Pallabi of Mirpur.
The police claimed Rahat Ali was involved in killing assistant subinspector Shah Mizanur Rahman of the Ramna police, found dead on a road in Tangail on May 4, and ATN Bangla cameraman Shafiqul Islam Mithu, found dead by the River Turag on May 9.
Based on the statement of a suspected mugger arrested earlier, the police said they had raided the Pallabi Eastern Housing area about 2:45am. As the lawmen approached, the gang who were inside a car fired into the lawmen, who fired back.
After a gunfight for half an hour, the police found Rahat dead. The police also seized a pistol from the place.
The police also seized the car. Rahat's associates, however, managed to get away, the police said.
In Khustia, a Gana Mukti Fauz operative was killed in a 'shootout' with the police at Shimulia in the district headquarters.
The deceased, Milon Fakir alias Jibon, 24, was an operative of the ultra-left outfit, the police said.
A police team raided Shimulia on information about a gathering of at least 25 operatives at a place about 4:00am.
As the lawmen approached, the gang fired into the lawmen, who fired back. Milon was caught in the 'crossfire' and died on the spot and his associates managed to get away, the police said.
The policemen seized a gun and six bullets from the spot.

RE: [ALOCHONA] Rabindranath:enemy of Bangladesh People n humanity

Thank you very much for the article. I am going to forward to all. I had read the article when it was published in the Daily Amardesh. It is very informative and all of us in Bangladesh should read it. Ibne Golam Samad write with refernces and authenticity. He does not write to show his personal emotions. About Rabindronath, whom I also call kobi guru, should not get what he does not deserve as non-communal, that is champion of non-communality.
Once again thank you.

There are a great number of people who tries to portray/make Rabindranath as 'Devta' a super human being. I acknowledge him as super kobi and shahittik but man Robindranath is always deplorable to the Muslim Community of Bengal. He was a die hard communal person therefore let's talk about his contributions to Bangla Shahittya only.
What we can see in Bangladesh by some people that they start Rabindra puja. Astagfirrullah.
The person who objected to the creation of Dhaka University as the people of East Bengal will benifit specially the Muslims, was deplorable then, deplorable now and will remain deplorable for all the time.
The same Rabindranath did not allow any muslims to be admitted to Biswa Bharati until Nezam of Hydrabad made a handsome contribution to the instituition with an attachment that muslims be admitted to the institution. Can someone still say person Rabindranath was non-communal?
The same Rabindranath opposed vehimently the creation of new Assam/East Bengal province by Lord Carzon 1905 for the benefit of backward Assam and East Bengal. He never liked to see that we the East bengalis florish though his livelyhood was from them.
Therefore, brothers and sisters please jump with joy for his creations (literature) but dot try to portray him as the champion of humanity and super champion of non-communal thinking.
If Bangladeshis have some reservation to the person Rabindranath, there is nothing wrong in it.

Back then treating Muslims like crap was "Business as usual". Not letting Muslims to touch Hindus, not letting Muslims into houses (Even kids), Not eating from Muslims and many other flavors of oppression was common.

However (My personal opinion) calling Rabindranath "Enemy of humanity" is a bit harsh. In many other respect, he had loads of good qualities as well. Ignoring your tax paying subjects was the norm than exception. If you look at our leading political parties of today,  they ignore tax paying people like us but I do not consider them enemy of humanity (Only cold blooded murderers are enemy of humanity). ;-)

I think core teaching of Islam is to be forgiving and having faith in Allah (SWT). Even when someone treated us like crap. Our history is victim of our political flavor of the day. One day Rabindranath is answer to all problems and next day everyone forgets him!!

I feel Rabindranath was a positive part of our history and culture. He was man of his day and his day was mostly hell for Bengali Muslims.

Considering everything happened to our forfathers. It is more important that, we learn from mistakes of the past. We should never use history as justification to treat fellow human being badly in our time. No matter what background he/she comes from.

May peace be unto all of you.

Dear All,
Do you know that Poet" Bshakobi " rabindranath

1 )compelled his Muslim subjects Giving Chanda For Puja
2) compelled his Muslim subjects  giving Tax for Bared ( Lari rakharv jonno kor Adai korto)
3)He never established a single school in  his jomidari in Bangladesh( silaidoh , shajatpur or potisosr)
4)He opposed and protested the establishment of Dhaka University
5)oppression on subjects by Rabindranath is a  well established Truth.
He was getting Khetabs , as supported the British colonial regime when nazrul was jailed for  his role against the British regime.
But sometimes some so called manobotabadi ask for establish the ideal of This rabindranath.

What kind of "Manobotabadi was Rabindranath n his supporters?

[ALOCHONA] Criticism of Tagore.

Every human being great or small can be criticized. Rabindranath Tagore can also be criticized because he was a mortal man with all the frailties of a human being. Tagore was harshly castigated by many of his contemporaries. But any criticism becomes ugly and unacceptable when this is done on a communal basis. I question the very basis of knowledge of any one who takes aim on any great personality without understanding and appreciating their contributions. Communalism is a mental illness not attached to any kind of human goodness. Socrates is criticized by many, Muhammad is criticized for marrying a 13 years old girl, Voltaire is castigated for his questionable moral character, and Poet Nazrul was sexually corrupted although he wanted to be buried near a mosque.

[ALOCHONA] Greed and its consequences

Greed and its consequences

Javed Ahmad

iqltdbd@gmail.com

Among all the activities we do in this life we spend most of our time in livelihoods trying to accumulate wealth and fortune as much as we can. Next we spend most of our time for friends and families. The least amount of time is spent on charity and good deeds.

Now imagine the consequences. Upon our death, all the wealth and fortune are left behind immediately that come to no avail to us anymore. The friends and family come to the grave yard to burry us in a grave and then leaves. What basically remains with us after death are the good deeds and rewards for the charities given. But alas! The amount is too small to count on as we never really bothered about it when we were alive.

Greed is a major problem in this life in all countries, cultures and religion, except for in Islam. Islam advocates for charities more than any other religions. The economic concept of an Islamic State is based on state charities. In Islam, believers are encouraged to live a simple or rather a poor life. Our Prophet (SM) and his companions gave away all their riches and wealth to adopt a simple life style to live an Islamic life to its fullest. Yet, under this condition Islam flourished around the world attracting people to adopt this simple life. Islam as a religion, culture and ideology flourished for over thousand years putting mark on every aspect of human splendors – literature, arts, sciences, expeditions, commerce, etc that was later absorbed by the West without any acknowledgments.

The glory of Islam began to fade after the decline of the Islamic empire (i.e., Khilafah) that ended in Turkey in 1924 following the WW1. The existence of the empire was already shaky and the control of was almost out of hand by then anyways. It was meant to die and fade away for a while.

What we have today is a 'secularized Islam' that has no resemblance to the original Islam as it used to be. The State is gone so has the actual practices of the religion. In this situation, the influence of Western culture and ideologies are rampant and accepted among the Muslims today compromising largely with Islam and its teachings; "greed" being one of them.

Western culture and ideology is based on 'lust' and 'greed'. Their disbelief in Islam has kept them in darkness making them to forget about the after-life and meeting with their Lord. As a result, they forgot that they would die one day and they would be resurrected again to face their Lord for accountability. Many do not believe in resurrection and after life and see this life as the only life they would live. Therefore, they seek to live this life to its fullest even if they have to deny and ignore others rights to achieve it. Their lust and greed for enjoyment in this life causes them to do pretty much anything to get what they want.

Muslims, following the Western culture are also victimized by the same illusions, dreams and expectations. As a result they no longer read the Qur'an and follow the Sunnah, instead they have chosen a midway between Islam and west thinking it is okay to be so. Thus hypocrisy has become their way of life – knowingly or unknowingly. The timeless Qur'an therefore declares -

"Say: "If the last Home, with God, be for you specially, and not for anyone

else, then seek ye for death, if ye are sincere." But they will never seek for death, on account of the (sins) which their hands have sent on before them. And God is well-acquainted with the wrong-doers. Thou wilt indeed find them, of all people, most greedy of life,-even more than the idolaters: Each one of them wishes He could be given a life of a thousand years: But the grant of such life will not save him from (due) punishment. For God sees well all that they do. Say: Whoever is an enemy to Gabriel-for he brings down the (revelation) to thy heart by God's will, a confirmation of what went before, and guidance and glad tidings for those who believe,- Whoever is an enemy to God and His angels and apostles, to Gabriel and Michael,- Lo! God is an enemy to those who reject Faith." (2:94-98).

Islam liberated mankind from many ill ideologies and deceptions of Satan. It showed mankind to make direct contact with the Lord Himself without any mediator like the priests and rabbis. The imam in Islam is just a leader who is also an independent being like others, just better than others, that's all. He does not mediate for anyone between them and God. He himself also does not need one. Therefore, a Muslim is in full control of his or her life establishing direct contact with God through their five regular prayers, or even outside the formal prayers. Many organized religion therefore do not like this concept as it does not allow them to manipulate people and usurp their wealth through donations that they receive. As a result they do not like Islam and hates it more than anything. Whatever hate and cruelty against Islam and Muslims we witness today as a result of that inherent hate. These folks would do anything to demonize Islam and Muslims to keep people away from accepting Islam as a way of life.

"Fain would they extinguish God's light with their mouths, but God will not

allow but that His light should be perfected, even though the Unbelievers may detest (it). It is He who hath sent His Apostle with guidance and the Religion of Truth, to proclaim it over all religion, even though the Pagans may detest (it). O ye who believe! There are indeed many among the priests and anchorites, who in Falsehood devour the substance of men and hinder (them) from the way of God. And there are those who bury gold and silver and spend it not in the way of God: announce unto them a most grievous penalty- On the Day when heat will be produced out of that (wealth) in the fire of Hell, and with it will be branded their foreheads, their flanks, and their backs, their flanks, and their backs.- "This is the (treasure) which ye buried for yourselves: taste ye, then, the (treasures) ye buried!"" (9:32-35).

Many deprive the orphans and the poor from their rightful shares out of greed around the world -

"Nay, nay! But ye honour not the orphans! Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, And ye love wealth with inordinate love! Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him?" (89:17-23).

Their limitless greed causes them to forget that this life would end one day and they would have to leave behind pretty much everything forever.

"But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, And gives the lie to the best,- We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit)." (92:8-11).

Believe it or not, a believer or not, the Qur'an declares in the above verse what would be the ultimate consequence of greed; would you not reflect and revert while there is still time? The Satan that deceives you was himself was a worshipper of God. He too believes in Allah and confirms that He exists. It was his rebellion that got him the curse, a curse he willing took for an open enmity against mankind knowing very well that he would never win the war against Allah. Do you consider him a better guide than Allah who whispers into your hearts and mind to follow his desires?

"God did curse him, but he said: "I will take of Thy servants a portion marked off; "I will mislead them, and I will create in them false desires; I will order them to slit the ears of cattle, and to deface the (fair) nature created by God." Whoever, forsaking God, takes Satan for a friend, hath of a surety suffered a loss that is manifest. Satan makes them promises, and creates in them false desires; but Satan's promises are nothing but deception." (4:118-120).

Re: [ALOCHONA] Rabindranath:enemy of Bangladesh People n humanity

Dear Alochok,

Maybe we should demad some data to support those claims against Rebindranth. However I am not a supporter of censoring. Freedom of thought, freedom to protest and preach is what makes this interesting. Like you I have been member of this forum since 98. I enjoy most postings even when I do not agree with them [ As long they have valid points to support those opinions].

This is one of the few places we can share our feelings without fearing gangs or police. Let us cherish this freedom and show respect for all opinions.

Dear Moderators of Alochona Group,

Is it necessary to publish this kind of rubbish write-up here in
Alochona group? I was a founder member of Alochona group since 1998.
Alochona is a Bangladesh centric forum encompassing topics related to
Bengali culture and Bangladeshi people. We have got over 16 thousands
different postings from different writers during last 12 years. We have
got knowledge in relation to Bengali culture, politics, philosophy and
socioeconomic topics; many of the intellectual personalities of Bengali
society have drawn us to the Enlightenment. But I can not take part in
this kind of stupid opinion that "Rabindranath Tagore is an enemy of
Bangladesh People".

Tagore's reputation as a philosopher and writer was established in
undivided India and in Abroad after the publication of Gitanjali. His
Song Offerings, in which Tagore tried to find inner calm and explored
the themes of divine and human love. His cosmic visions owed much to
the lyric tradition of human religion and its concepts about the
relationship between man and God.

Gitanjali published in 1912 with an introduction by William Butler
Yates, who wrote "These lyrics - which are in the original, my Indians
tell me, full of subtlety of rhythm, of untranslatable delicacies of
colour, of metrical invention - display in their thought a world I have
dreamed of all my life long." His poems were praised by Ezra Pound,
and drew the attention of the Nobel Prize committee.

Tagore is the composer of our National Anthem "Amar Sonar Bangla" and
if someone called him as an "enemy of Bangladesh People" than he is
definitely undermining our national and state sovereignty and playing
with the sentiments of all Bangladeshi people.

So I request you to read the post before approving it for 4000 readers
of this forum.
With best thanking.

Re: [ALOCHONA] Re: Khaleda_ Delwar Must change their vindictive attitude

Dear Alochok Ezajur,

As long as we don't have  better leaders  to replace our present leaders  in proactive way , we have to try to change the attitude and  behaviour of our present leaders. In this  digital age, we can easily  reach  our leaders  or their close associates.

For example in facebook, you can easily say BNP " we  don't want to listen any more lecture untill and unless  you take any measures against the armed cadres of Sylhet"

I think asking questions  and saying something to the leaders (Whatever way  one can do that) can  make them change their attitude.

The test of patriotism is not a one-off event for anyone, let alone the political quarters, that once passed is passed for ever. It is rather a perpetual process, especially for the ruling political quarters that have to pass it every moment- Nurul Kabir , Editor , The NewAge

Dear Alochok Mahathir

We have often fought in the past and it is likely we will fight in the future.

But this is because I see a disconnect between your past statements and your statement below:

"Untill and unless we educated citizens of the country focus on how we can change attitude and behaviour of our leaders, we can not make country progress at a satisfactory pace."

Perhaps I was wrong in the past. But I am wholeheartedly committed to your statement above. It is encouraging indeed.

The question then is do we want our leaders to change or do we want to change our leaders? If we can't change our leaders why would we expect our leaders to change?

Democracy means being able to change your leaders. We can't do that. Because we don't really have a proper democracy.

Thank you for a wonderful email which is a fine example of hope and inevitable change.

Warm regards

Ezajur Rahman

They shouldn't say like that they would make BAL leaders to run in the corridor of court by suing them and winter of Mag would also come for BAL leaders. Firstly, because we want get rid of the vicious cycle of vindictive politics. Secondly, such statement will increase BAL's atrocity. They will think whatever happens later, they will see. Now they will try to torture BNP and it’s supporters to such a level that BNP does not have the ability to take revenge.

They will take law at their hand, this will badly damage the image of newly formed govt and anti BNP media like Prothom-alo, will high light it very badly though Alo didn’t mention the political identity of rapist who raped mother and daughter on the previous night of Vola-3 by election as they were workers and leaders of BAL.

For example, BNP leaders should not use the ambigous world like "selling of the country". rather they should use very specific world such as "sacrificying the interest of the country" so that BAL propaganda mechine can not interpret it differently and raise question about it . BNP can use council of advisers to Khaleda zia for forming such group.

Unless and untill attitude and behaviour of party workers and supporters change, violence and tender snatching , torture on women will not be reduced by administrative measures. The sooner our leaders understand that, the beterr is it for our Country and nation.

[ALOCHONA] Deoband fatwa: It's illegal for women to work, support family

Deoband fatwa: It's illegal for women to work, support family

Deoband Seminary

LUCKNOW: Darul Uloom Deoband, the self-appointed guardian for Indian Muslims, in a Talibanesque fatwa that reeked of tribal patriarchy, has decreed that it is "haram" and illegal according to the Sharia for a family to accept a woman's earnings. Clerics at the largest Sunni Muslim seminary after Cairo's Al-Azhar said the decree flowed from the fact that the Sharia prohibited proximity of men and women in the workplace.

"It is unlawful (under the Sharia law) for Muslim women to work in the government or private sector where men and women work together and women have to talk with men frankly and without a veil," said the fatwa issued by a bench of three clerics. The decree was issued over the weekend, but became public late on Monday, seminary sources said.

At a time when there is a rising clamour for job quotas for Muslims in India and a yearning for progress in the community that sees itself as neglected, the fatwa, although unlikely to be heeded, is clearly detrimental.

Even the most conservative Islamic countries, which restrict activities of women, including preventing them from driving, do not bar women from working. At the peak of its power, the Taliban only barred women in professions like medicine from treating men and vice versa. But there was a never a blanket ban on working, although the mullahs made it amply clear that they would like to see the women confined to homes.

The fatwa, however, drew flak among other clerics.

"Men and women in Sharia are entitled to equal rights. If men follow the Sharia, there is no reason why women can't work with them," said Rasheed, the Naib Imam of Lucknow's main Eidgah Mosque in Aishbagh.

Mufti Maulana Khalid Rasheed of Darul Ifta Firangi Meheli -- another radical Islamic body which also issues fatwas -- criticized the Deoband fatwa as a retrograde restriction on Muslim women.

The fatwa was in response to a question whether Muslim women can take up government or private jobs and whether their salary should be termed as `halal' (permissible under the Sharia) or `haram' (forbidden).

Well-known Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawwad, however, justified the fatwa. "Women in Islam are not supposed to go out and earn a living. It's the responsibility of the males in the family," he said. "If a woman has to go for a job, she must make sure that the Sharia restrictions are not compromised," he added, citing the example of Iran, where Muslim women work in offices but have separate seating areas, away from their male counterparts.

In Lucknow, a city with strong secular and progressive traditions, where Muslim families train their daughters to be doctors, engineers and executives, there was a sense of shocked disbelief even in conservative quarters that such a decree could come from those who consider themselves to be advocates of the community.

"I am also a working woman and also ensure that my Sharia is not compromised," said Rukhsana, a lecturer at a girl's college in Lucknow and a member of the executive committee of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB). "It's not necessary that one would have to go against the Sharia when going to work."

"Name one Islamic country which does not have a national airline and does not hire airhostesses? If I know correctly, even the Saudi Airlines has hostesses and they don't wear a veil," said Shabeena Parveen, a computer professional in the city.
