[mukto-mona] On 16 December, Victory Day

To me 16 December is a day which can be marked as a watershed in the annals of history of the Bengali nation. This was a day when a thousand years old dream came true. The partition of India in 1947 was a blunder and the creation of Pakistan based on religion was illogical and the inclusion of East Bengal into Pakistan was a very bad political decision. We were destined to be separated from Pakistan sooner or later this is historical reality. At 40 what is the achievement of Bangladesh as a free nation? Political squabbling is there but the country itself is not failed one. There are certainly some visible progress has been made despite all these negative aspects. Bangladesh has established itself as a nation in the eyes of the world. A few of its achievements are well recognized by the international community.

The political quagmire is the only negative sign which will take some more time to mature. There is hardly any politician in the country who really understands their impartial responsibility towards the nation. They are mostly illiterate, short sighted and parochial. They have no power to chart a realistic approach to solve the national issues. Politics does not have anything to do with personal comfort and ego. This is the rotten sore in the Bangladesh political scene.

The way Bangladeshi politicians conducts politics it does not reflect the vision of an independent nation. Their behavior shows their lack of enlightenment and overall understanding of nature of politics. Harold Laski once said that a nation gets a government it deserves. This comment from a world renowned political philosopher may sound harsh but in many cases it’s true.

I do agree that 40 might not be a significant part of the eternity but in this span of time some sort of discipline should have emerge in the over all political situation of Bangladesh. This is yet to happen and when it will happen nobody knows.

A few blunders were committed at the early days of independence. Sheikh Mujib himself did no know the real concept of secularism which led him to join the spineless Organization of the Islamic Countries. This weakness was grabbed by the anti independence forces to divert the nation from the core value of nationalism. He failed to embrace and appreciate the different sections of the nationalist forces that all fought to defeat the enemy. The notion of democracy which was the mantra for our freedom struggle was not understood in its principles and spirit by Mujib who could not find a unity in diversity.

General Ziaur Rahman harmed the nation by resettling the religious fascist forces in national politics. He wanted to reaffirm and establish his authority by expanding his base by allowing these dark communal forces a free hand in the national politics. But despite all these the future will come with a positive synthesis which will be ushered by the posterity.

[ALOCHONA] Re: FW: Each star on this map represents a U.S. military base. See how America has surrounded Iran. And yet, America claims it has reason to feel threatened by Iran.

Of more interest would be a map of Desh with a star showing every place where a murder or extortion has been committed by the apparatus of the ruling AL. We could do the same for when BNP is in power. The we could sit back and watch the Bong intellectuals debate:

BNP intellectuals: we only killed 5 but AL killed 10. Vote BNP!
AL intellectuals: we only killed 5 but BNP klilled 10. Vote AL!

And when the 'jaath gelo, jaath gelo' nerve is touched all Bongu intellectuals can say that at least 5 killings by a ruling party is 'natural'. Coz shomoi lagbe.

Bloody Bongus.

[ALOCHONA] Re: DIPU MONI’S 102 TRIPS

Coud it be true that she made 102 trips abroad spending a total of 7
months outside the country since becoming Foreign Minister? Sounds too
much even to a critic like me.

But we have to understand the whispered explanations of AL
intellectuals. This Apa, or Bhabi, is a very nice lady who speaks good
English. And that's the whole explanation.

What else could we Bloody Bongus want?

[ALOCHONA] Re: Govt refutes Larma's allegations

Oh dear! AL intellectuals please do something quickly! Oherwise Hasina will lose out on the Nobel Prize again next year. Its bad enough she wasn't among the 3 who shared the Prize this year.

Intellectuals! Where are you?

[ALOCHONA] Re: CORRUPTION DECREASED IN BANGLADESH !!!!!!

If you asked Manik for help with some injustice he would not turn you away. He would not take you promptly to a lawyer or to a policeman. He would contact his 'political connection' because that is how his Sonar Bangladesh operates. The political connection will ask for money to solve the problem. Manik will not hesitate to tell the victim "Bhai, ey bhabe kaaj hoi". At the victim's request Manik asks the political contact for a discount. The standard answer will pass back from politician to activist to victim: "rate fixed, higher ups bholche, dhorkar hoile taka dhen nahole chole jan".

Democracy in action. There maybe some interesting context and unfortunate fate in all this. So what?

We are still Bloody Bongus....
