Re: [mukto-mona] Re: {PFC-Friends} Mark Zuckerberg wants everyone to read 'The Muqaddimah' : which contradicts the Quran completely

1. Mr. Deeldar's comment is not clear to me and as such I refrain from saying any thing on it.

2. I don't understand why Dr. Jiten Roy thinks that the Muslim world 'completely' 'denounced' the knowledge of the 14th century. Muslims don't learn science! There are no scientists among them!

Muslim world completely denounced those knowledge of the 14 century, and failed to utilize the knowledge to advance. They have done the same under British rule, while Hindus embraced it whole heartedly.

Why is that? It's because - Muslims have ultra-fascination for their religion. No society can advance with such fascination for religion; the goal of the religion is to block mental maturity, not advancement. Islam, even though, ask followers to go to china to acquire knowledge, but when someone does that, he/she gains knowledge that contradict the religious text. So, those knowledge get rejected right away by the greater Muslim community, and he/she becomes apostate.

That's the reason why 14th century knowledge gained remained untapped by the Mulsim community, but embraced by the non-Muslim communities, especially by the European communities and moved forward.

During the 14th century, Ibn Khaldun wrote in his book 'Al Muqaddimah' (The Introduction):

Quote
This world with all the created things in it has a certain order and solid construction. It shows nexuses between causes and things caused, combinations of some parts of creation with others, and transformations of some existent things into others, in a pattern that is both remarkable and endless. [...]

One should then take a look at the world of creation. It started out from the minerals and progressed, in an ingenious, gradual manner, to plants and animals. The last stage of minerals is connected with the first stage of plants, such as herbs and seedless plants. The last stage of plants, such as palms and vines, is connected with the first stage of animals, such as snails and shellfish which have only the power of touch. The word 'connection' with regard to these created things means that the last stage of each group is fully prepared to become the fist stage of the newest group.

The animal world then widens, its species become numerous, and, in a gradual process of creation, it finally leads to man, who is able to think and reflect. The higher stage of man is reached from the world of monkeys, in which both sagacity and preception are found, but which has not reached the stage of actual reflection and thinking. At this point we come to the first stage of man. This is as far as our (physical) observation extends. [pp 74-75]

the muqaddimah

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's 2015 New Year's resolution was to read an important book every two weeks and discuss it with the Facebook community.
Zuckerberg's book club, A Year of Books, has focused on big ideas that influence society and business. His selections so far have been mostly contemporary, but for his 11th pick he's chosen "The Muqaddimah," written in 1377 by the Islamic historian Ibn Khaldun.
"The Muqaddimah," which translates to "The Introduction," is an early attempt to strip away biases of historical records and find universal elements in the progression of humanity.
Khaldun's revolutionary scientific approach to history has established him as one of the foundational thinkers of modern sociology and historiography.
The influential 20th-century British historian Arnold J. Toynbee described "The Muqaddimah" as "a philosophy of history, which is undoubtedly the greatest work of its kind that has ever yet been created by any mind in any time or place," according to the Encyclopedia Britannica.
Zuckerberg explains his latest book-club pick on his personal Facebook page:
It's a history of the world written by an intellectual who lived in the 1300s. It focuses on how society and culture flow, including the creation of cities, politics, commerce and science.
While much of what was believed then is now disproven after 700 more years of progress, it's still very interesting to see what was understood at this time and the overall worldview when it's all considered together.
Most of Zuckerberg's book club selections have explored issues through a sociological lens, so it makes sense he is now reading a book that helped create the field.

[mukto-mona] The fake pictures of the Rohingya crisis

This is what - I have been thinking while watching relentless campaigns and fund-raising in the internet using these fake pictures of atrocities. Now, it will be hard to make people believe anything about Rohingya crisis, which is a tragedy.

The fake pictures of the Rohingya crisis
BBC Trending What's popular and why
  • 6 June 2015
Share
  • This picture was all too real but several images online have been falsely attributed to the ongoing Rohingya crisis
The plight of Rohingya Muslims fleeing Myanmar was thrust into the spotlight last month after thousands of migrants were left stranded at sea - but not all the images being shared online are what they seem to be.
The Rohingyas are a distinct Muslim ethnic group mainly living in Myanmar, also known as Burma. They are not recognised as citizens of Myanmar and face persecution in the majority Buddhist country, where many live in crowded camps. Powerful and seemingly genuine pictures and videos emerged of what Rohingyas must endure in Myanmar after thousands of migrants were left adrift with low supplies of food and water last month. But BBC Trending found some of the images being shared online don't show Rohingyas at all - but instead come from other disasters and news events.
Many of these images are graphic and disturbing. One of the photos, for instance, that shows up in search results shows Buddhist monks standing among piles of body parts. On Facebook and Twitter, the photograph has been cited as an example of Buddhist violence against Rohingyas. But the picture is not from Burma at all - it was actually taken in the aftermath of an earthquake in China in April 2010.
Another picture shows a man on fire running across the road. One group that shared the photo on Facebook suggesting the man suffered horrific abuse - that he was chopped up and burnt alive. But the real story is much different. In fact, the photo is of Jamphel Yeshi, a Tibetan activist who set himself on fire in Delhi in 2012 to protest against the Chinese president's visit to India.
There are many disturbing pictures of children circulating as well. One shows a boy tied to a wooden pole, with the marks of beatings visible across his back. While online posts call him a Rohingya boy, he's actually a seven-year-old Thai child who was beaten up by a relative for stealing sweets earlier this year.
Then there's this photo which has been widely shared, particularly in India and Pakistan, showing a motorcycle riding across the hands of school students who are lying on the ground with outstretched arms. The incident was actually a stunt by a martial arts trainer in south India:
The caption reads "Burma's Muslims" in Urdu ... ... however it's really an AFP photo of a stunt in India, as the BBC reported in 2009
Other misleading images traced by BBC Trending using online photo search tools include a large crowd of people laying on the ground (actually of protesters being detained in Thailand in 2004), one showing burnt bodies (in reality from an oil tanker blaze in 2010 in the Democratic Republic of Congo) and a grisly photo of children with bloodstained clothes which apparently comes from Sri Lanka's decades-long conflict. These and other images have been shared thousands of times on Facebook mostly by people hoping to support the Rohingyas.
"We appreciate everyone's concern but encourage everybody to always check carefully before using images," says UK-based Rohingya activist and blogger Jamila Hanan. "Whenever the Rohingya hits media headlines these same photos are redistributed with some new ones included."
"There are so many genuine images of tragic scenes of the Rohingya that are genuine, there is simply no need for anyone to fabricate anything," Hanan told BBC Trending. "The most tragic images are the real ones."

Well, the man was brave enough to stick his neck out by asking some pertinent questions. I agree Darwin's work was far more methodical, logical and science based. Even without Darwin, things would taken the right course in the west. People are simply too curious to go for the logical answers than to be satisfied with manufactured stories..

Obviously Ibn Khaldun knew nothing about Charles Darwin's theory of evolution as he was some five centuries earlier. Although he posed all the right questions and arrived at the right conclusions, but at the final conclusion he had to bring in the Creator to let it happen. In his time, he was the supreme philosopher and the most educated man; but now with the accumulated knowledge of the last six to seven centuries, one can say that there is no need to bring in the unverified, unwarranted Creator. Things do evolve by themselves by the process of natural selection.

Re: [mukto-mona] Re: {PFC-Friends} Facts You Can’t Deny !

Significant historic facts should not be denied or hidden. Personal facts that do not affect others significantly can be hidden, should not be outright denied.

However, what we do with facts, and how we interpret facts, do matter probably more than the facts themselves. For example, all the facts here can lead some people to conclude like "it was a mistake to separate East Bengal from Pakistan." For example, "Major leaders Mujib and Zia both were murdered hardheartedly by Bangali(s)/Bangladeshi(s).", leading to the conclusion, "Let's not fight over Mujib and Zia for the sake of national interest.", sounds like trashing Zia to where he actually belongs is not needed. The way I see it, this criminal's grave near the national parliament is a national disgrace, for example.

For a nation that does not have the minimum sense of right and wrong, and self-honor, what is the point of self-interest? It is doomed to facts like #6.
