"Pak-US Relations At a Critical Point" – Hillary Clinton

This is a Pakpotpourri Exclusive

By:General Mirza Aslam Beg

Former Chief of Army Staff

Threat to our national security increased with the occupation of Afghanistan in 2001, and has reached dangerous proportions now, as the defeated forces are seeking the support of "a compliant regime and a military dictator in Pakistan, to provide the fall back position in Pakistan and a guarantee for safe exit from Afghanistan"

.

TURKMAN: Troops of 47 nations saving Afghanistan from Pak Mercenaries, the Taliban have already been 'defeated'? Super Power USA now needs help of Pak Army just for safe exit from Afghanistan because otherwise, your Taliban would slaughter all its Soldiers? Sounds like you have gone senile, sir.

---------

In the past it was easy to bring about the Regime Change, with the help of the Army, the judiciary and political parties but the mood is different now.

The deceitful action in Abbottabad and the terrorist raid on Mehran Naval Base, were meant to create condition for Regime Change, but conversely these actions invited very strong reactions from the people, the media, the parliament and the armed forces, which caused deep concern in Washington.

.

TURKMAN: Osama assassination and Mehran Base attacks were to overthrow Democracy in Pakistan and make your Army to come in power? Have you started doing drugs? What the hell USA had to do with Mehran Base attack? Why 2 years ago Obama had refused to permit Gen. Keyani to even replace Zardari if he had wanted Military take over in Pakistan?

---------

Clinton and Mullen, came rushing to Pakistan to mend the damage caused to Pak-US strategic relationship. The critical issue is not the US-Pak relationship, but the targeting of the Pakistani Armed Forces, to malign them, through a well orchestrated media campaign, and to break their unity.

A very dangerous move indeed, as Anatol Lieven, the author of the book "Pakistan: A Hard Country" warns: "How American folly could destroy Pakistan, by inducing mutiny in the Pakistan Army. Washington, grotesquely might contribute to the destruction of the state it is trying to save and a historic triumph for extremism. Pakistan's tragedy would then become one of the entire world."

.

TURKMAN: Unity of Armed Forces of Pakistan was attacked? You must not know, Punjabis in Army had remained united with even British, when rest of Indians had revolted in 1857.

----------

The United States and their allies are in a desperate situation in Afghanistan, and need an early exit, which only Taliban can grant, under the condition that the 'occupation forces must give a definite time-frame for withdrawal.'

.

TURKMAN: The Taliban, who are scared to death and are only sneak attacking because of great salary they are being paid by ISI, the lure of great Bounty for killing every Foreign Soldier that is being paid by Pakistan and great compensation package for their families if they die? Which world you live in, sir? Taliban do not control Afghanistan.

-------

It is not 1989, when Mujahideen provided safe exit to the Soviets.

.

TURKMAN: MojaahiDeen had provided safe exit to Soviets in 1989? For what? What money had Soviets paid? Why are you you lying?

----------

The Afghan Taliban now have no trust in Pakistan, or the Americans, who cheated them in 1990 at Geneva and again in 2002 at Bonn, on the matter of power-sharing and the efforts continue even now to keep them out of power.

,

TURKMAN: Where are your those so called 'Afghan Taliban'? Can anybody see them? If they are so popular and in control of Afghanistan, why none of them ever ran in last 2 Elections despite Amnesty that Karzai had provided them? You know, why? Afghans hate guts of those few of your ISI Agents and they could not win any Afghan Parliament Seats. If they controlled any area, they would have forced Afghans to vote for them at Gun Point but they did not control any areas either. They had issued threats, "If anybody goes to Polls, he and his whole family would be shot dead" but still 70% of Afghans voted and those Jokers could not do anything. Why don't you understand, Afghans and Pak PushToons hate your Taliban and Afghans hate Punjabis more than anybody else in the world.

----------

Therefore 'no safe exit' and 'no soft-state' in Pakistan. So where do the American proceed from here? and what are the choices for Pakistan?

.

TURKMAN: When the hell USA ever said, it wants to leave Afghanistan completely anyway? Aren't you dreaming?

--------------

    • Pakistan had enough of war on terror, and stands badly bruised and battered, fighting our own people. Pakistan has to find peace with the tribals. Approach them with open arms and an open mind. Do not repeat the deceitful act of killing Maulvi Nek Mohammad, after truce was reached.
    •
  • TURKMAN: USA had told you to fight with every Pak PushToon Tribe that does not surrender to your Taliban. Why did you kill so many of them and got killed by Taliban to start with?
  • ---------
  • Go back to the historic 1947 decision of Quaid-e-Azam and hand over the responsibility of defense of our borders to them.

  • TURKMAN: Then, why you disappointed 56% of 1971 Pak Population so much that India took advantage of the situation and made you fail that 'Defense Responsibility' by surrendering to Indian Army? The Pakistan that Mr. Jinnah had gotten from British, its border was River Sindh. It did not include NWF Province, Baluchistan, Northern Territories, Tribal Areas, State of Bahawalpur and a few other Independent states. Why are you occupying them and have extended your borders up to Durand Line, when you could not even save East Pakistan?
  • ---------
    • Find peace with the oppressed and the angry Baloch, and pre-empt the dangerous designs of our enemies, to foment revolt and cessation. The on-going process of pacification must be accelerated to achieve national integration.
    • Offer regrets and apology to the Afghans, for joining the American war in 2001, and create space for diplomacy to re-establish friendly relations and facilitate a safe-exit for the occupation forces.
TURKMAN: No sir. Afghans are thankful already that USA has changed their lives. They have Electricity, they can watch TV, listen to Music, have Afghan Idol Singing Competition on TV, they can fly Kites, have VCRs, Satellite Dishes, paved roads, Land Mine Free Roads and Fields, have plenty of Food, their standard of living is rising. They are becoming richer etc. They want USA to stay and Karzai gone because he is talking like he is doing Heroin. Why don't you offer your apology for keep occupying the Afghanistan west of River Sindh instead or end your occupation of that region, sir?
----------
    • Let the election process, throw-up new leadership and the democratic system finds its roots. Any attempt to rock the boat now, would be highly dangerous.
TURKMAN: What do we have now. Its not democracy? Had not Pakistanis elected this government for a full term, when they had gone to vote for it?
---------
    • Let the supremacy of the law of the land prevail and punishment metted-out to those who break the law.
TURKMAN: Tell this to your Army because it has been getting thousands of Taliban released by threats to Police and Judges.
---------
    • Tell the world that our nuclear assets are safe, as much as safety demands. They are well dispersed and known only to those "who need to know." Even the users – the Army, Navy and Airforce do not know, where they are kept, but at the time of need, they will be delivered the war-heads, to be embedded with the delivery systems. Our command and control system is one of the best in the world, if not the best. By the Grace of God, ours is the only nuclear programme, in the world, which has never experienced a disaster or a mishap.
TURKMAN: Which country's Atomic Bomb Making Program has ever faced disaster? Why don't you know the difference between Nuclear Power Plant and Nuclear Arms Manufacturing Program? Please also tell us, if even GHQ is not safe and can be taken over by Taliban like it was, how can you claim Nuclear Assets are safe?
--------

The 'safety' of nuclear assets as well as 'deterrence' are complementary. One relates to its credibility and the physical ability to keep them safe and the other relates to: "the will to use the capability to deter and defeat aggression".

The will to use this capability is 'a function of command decision, of the person in authority' as demonstrated in 1990, when CIA, Mossad and RAW had planned to attack our nuclear assets.

.

TURKMAN: RAW, CIA and MOSSAD had planned to attack Pak Nuclear Assets in 1990 without any provocation? Why you had not published this news in 1990? What Evidence you have to prove this, Liar? How could have anybody known Pakistan had Nukes in 1990, when there were no Nukes built yet and China had just told A Q Khan, "The Blue Print stolen from USA that you think is fake is not fake. Its genuine and your own Blue Print is faulty". I was hanging out with my Islamabad buddies in ISI, when this news had reached in January, 1990. There were years to go before build it still.

----------

We received very disturbing signals from own sources and friends in the Middle East. The then Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto – "the person in authority", called an urgent meeting of the Nuclear Command Authority, and after due deliberations took following decisions:

    • Sent the foreign minister to Delhi, with the message, that if attacked, Pakistan would retaliate against India, no matter, where the attack came from.

(I.A. Gujral, the former Prime Minister of India, mentions in his book "Matters of Discretion" about our Foreign Minister's visit on 23 January 1990 and the message delivered, but cleverly relates it to the tension on the cease-fire line, whereas, our army had put the Indians on the defensive there. Ask former GOC 12 Division, Major General Safdar, SJ, to know the facts. Later-on, when Benazir Bhutto visited India, Gujral asked her, whether, she had sent Sahibzada Sahib with the message. She replied, 'No'. That was politics.)

    • A squadron of F-16 fully armed with nuclear weapons was ordered to be ready to strike targets deep in the South, at Trombay. These activities were soon picked-up by the American satellites and Robert Gates came rushing to Pakistan to pacify our leaders. President Ghulam Ishaq Khan cooled him down, and never again the Nexus, attempted to challenge Pakistan.

  • TURKMAN: The problem is, you people react on Conspiracy Theories but ignore the facts.
  • ---------
  • On the night of 1/2 May attack in Abbottabad, two of our F-16s scrambled, but chose not to challenge the American aircrafts providing air cover from across the borders. Rightly so. Our superiority is on ground – the men and missiles and the conventional weapons support. Our men belong to one of the best fighting machine of the world, and the hard core freedom fighters come from our border region and remain undefeated. Based on Men and Missile, we do have a 'war plan' to deter and defeat aggression. Let there be no ambiguity about it.
  • .
TURKMAN: Sure, sure. Even if you are telling the truth, good thing, those Pilots flying the Jets given to Pakistan as a Charity were not Nmak Hraam enough to use them to shoot down US Helicopters otherwise, there were hundreds of a lot more advanced Jets and huge Bombers waiting to destroy Pak Army if Pakistan went to war with USA. 3 Aircraft Careers with tens of thousands of Soldiers and hundreds of Missiles were ready to shower them down on Pak Army. Even Pilots in Qatar US Base were alert to participate. Dozens of huge high flying Bombers with even Daisy Cutter Bombs were ready in US Diago Garcia Base also.
----------
Whether Osama was killed in 2009 or 2011, is immaterial. Sure, he is dead, for whom, the Americans invaded Afghanistan. It is no more necessary therefore to "jointly chase the shadows."
    .
TURKMAN: Your Taliban are shadow in the middle of the night sneak attacking in Afghanistan. Why should they not be chased in to Pakistan?
    ---------
Turn the page, and negotiate peace with the Afghans,
who are fighting for their freedom for the last thirty years and have suffered over two and a half million dead and colossal destruction.
    .
TURKMAN: But your Taliban are Pakistanis, not Afghans. Afghans are not at war with USA, Pakistanis and Pak Army is. What should US negotiate with Afghans, who do not want US Soldiers to stop building Schools, Hospitals and Roads for them? Why don't you turn the page and negotiate peace with India so, Pakistan can advance instead of keep living off Charity of Aid and Loans of USA and other rich countries of the world?
    ---------
Guarantee for safe exit and lasting peace is possible only if the invaders and the aggressors such as, Russia, America, European Union, India and Pakistan, agree to pay the War Damages and find a place in the hearts of the Afghans, through massive reconstruction and rehabilitation works.
    .
TURKMAN: What else is US doing in Afghanistan by spending $ 8 billion a year? Why are you not aware of this? And who the hell are you demanding and guaranteeing all this? Are you Afghan? Is Afghanistan your country? I guarantee you lasting peace and no more threat from India if you people stop fingering Anus of India. USA is in Afghanistan because with the help of ISI, the Monkey of Al Qaeda had fingered Anus of a Sleeping Lion in New York. Why you people love to finger, who can blow you away in an hour little annoying Flies?
    ---------
That is the stark reality, to determine the correct level of Pak-Afghan-US relationship, particularly now when the US war machine is stuck in the hard-rocky sands of Afghanistan. Admiral Patreaus did cry- out after experiencing this hardness: "The reality about Afghanistan is, it is all hard, at all times."
    .
TURKMAN It would not remain anything like this before 2012 starts because either your Army going to call its Taliban Dogs off Afghans, USA and Pakistanis or there won't be any Pakistan Military left. It would be bombed in to Stone Age and all nations in Pakistan occupied by Punjabis would be freed by USA.  Just watch ...!

[ALOCHONA] Can anyone control Pakistan's ISI spies?

Can anyone control Pakistan's ISI spies?

A Pakistani journalist in Hyderabad protests against Mr Shahzad killing, 1 June 2011 Protests against the killing have taken place all over the country

    Related Stories

Pakistan's dreaded spy agency, the ISI, is back in the spotlight, accused of murdering journalist Saleem Shahzad. The agency's engagement with the media has become progressively more virulent as the "war on terror" has progressed. BBC Urdu editor Aamer Ahmed Khan asks whether anyone can bring the ISI under control.

ISI officials deny involvement in the murder of Saleem Shahzad. One said there is nothing sinister about their reported contacts with him. The agency, the official said, is mandated to remain in contact with journalists "for provision of accurate information on matters of national security".

But he would be hard pressed to find a Pakistani journalist willing to buy that - unless we agree that "sinister" is a matter of perspective.

I once received a phone call reminding me what a lovely family I had after I published a story for The Herald magazine on ISI-Taliban links. It had clearly upset someone at the ISI.

A panicked phone call home established all was well - and a few more calls to the relevant people from my powerful publisher ensured that the man who introduced himself as Col Tariq never called again.

But there was a catch - I had to go to the ISI's heavily fortified headquarters in Islamabad and meet the "internal security" people there. I could not shake off a creepy feeling that someone in the building had ordered that my family be monitored and watched.

    "Start Quote

It was only when officials stopped answering our calls that we realised it must have been the work of the ISI"

    End Quote
    Shot in the head

Spend an evening in any press club in the country and you are likely to walk away with stories that will sit comfortably in the pages of an underworld chronicle.

Tales of journalists who were made to write suicide notes for reporting on the suspected presence of India's most wanted man in Karachi. Accounts of correspondents who became hit-and-run victims after reporting on the agency's involvement in electoral malpractice.

I still remember the time when our tribal areas correspondent was picked up by the ISI and only released after being severely tortured for more than 36 hours.

Within the first few hours, we had made contact with every government official we knew, from the local police officer to the interior minister.

And it was only when they stopped answering our calls that we realised it must have been the work of bhai loag or "brothers", as ISI officials are commonly referred to.

Saleem Shahzad Saleem Shahzad had complained of ISI threats

In between, I received a call from a journalist I knew was in close contact with the ISI. He told me that a dead body fitting my correspondent's description had been taken to a hospital in the garrison city of Rawalpindi and that we had better check it out.

It took me 40 minutes to drive to the hospital, 40 of the most difficult minutes of my life as a journalist. When I saw the dead body, I could have hugged it.

I was so relieved that it wasn't my colleague. And when he was released the next evening, I found myself saying a silent thank you to his tormentors for letting him live.

Then there were the three bizarre days I spent in North Waziristan in July 2006 after a 30-year-old tribal journalist, Hayatullah, was killed.

He had been abducted from outside a local college, held for six months, then shot in the head and dumped by the roadside.

What struck me about that incident was that everyone in the area seemed to know the exact identity of his kidnappers.

Some even mentioned a name, supposedly an ISI major who, it was said, would often call Hayatullah's family and tell them that he had not yet made up his mind whether to release him or kill him.

    ISI immunity

It is not without reason that Saleem Shahzad's death has immediately led to allegations against the ISI. The entire journalist community in Pakistan knows how closely the agency monitors media and journalists.

They also know how immensely powerful it is, the extent of the immunity it enjoys and the fact that journalists are only a small part of its overarching remit.

Nearly 200 political activists have been abducted, tortured and killed in the troubled province of Balochistan over the past two years merely for demanding their political rights.

Their families are almost unanimous in their opinion that the ISI is involved. Yet the killings continue unabated.

Even the Supreme Court has tried to intervene to recover some of those kidnapped - but to no avail. It has merely come to be known as the case of the missing people.

Lt Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha ISI chief Gen Pasha's offer to resign over Bin Laden was declined

Former ISI officials proudly recount tales of how they engineered political alliances and brought down elected governments to "protect the national interest".

Yet after every general election, politicians from all political parties make a beeline for the ISI headquarters in the hope of securing a place in the cabinet.

The present government made a feeble attempt last year to bring the ISI under the control of the interior ministry.

But the agency reacted so sharply that the notification was withdrawn within hours. Since then, it has been business as usual.

In the aftermath of Bin Laden's killing, the current ISI chief, Gen Shuja Pasha, offered to resign after publicly admitting a complete intelligence failure. His offer was politely declined not just by the army chief but also by the entire parliament.

Still, there are some incorrigible optimists who believe that Saleem Shahzad's death can change all this. They point to the growing public criticism of the agency, fuelled by a steadily rising anger within a very dynamic media at its total lack of accountability.

One of Pakistan's most influential and respected publishers, Hameed Haroon, told the BBC that the situation had reached breaking point. "This has to end," he fumed. "They cannot treat our journalists, our intellectual assets like this."

The question is, who is going to end it?

[ALOCHONA] They talk only about Jewish holocaust.....

Genocide of Bosnian Muslims in the heart of Europe

Will Ratko Mladic, architect of Srebrenica massacre, also escape justice as Milosevic?

    Latheef Farook

Ratco Mladic, savage Serbian beast of unparalleled evil and cruelty, is responsible for the genocide of around 10,000 innocent Muslims in the Bosnian town of Srebrenica in July 1995.

After sixteen years of what Jewish controlled Western media described as "hiding",   Mladic was arrested   in the village of Lazarevo, around 60 kilometers northeast of Belgrade on Thursday 25 May 2011.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtfW6d2xW2Hn3j4emziW1esXBWXHvgSvZSGcfqTDAtzOHk9Xgz8eiAy4knYfl7uaeVs4jYIw4x8vZeWpBnHHRpNsKaH5MZwpM-eFuUMapy_HZed9MXgAxCzFp79SWuJEYGMqoOsqEDd1c-/s1600/ra.jpgHowever Mladic, supported by the Serb army, Orthodox Church, relatives and friends ,lived in comfort and freely attended wedding parties, football matches and expensive restaurants in public. And yet Serbian government, US, Europe and United Nations could not trace him?

One Muslim woman stated that "For all those years this monster was hidden by Serbia and they knew where he was," .Now they are handing him over to justice. Well, better late than never. But I'm afraid of another trial without a verdict."  The question is whether he will also die without a verdict like Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic who claimed he was poisoned.

Though the calculated massacre began as early as 1992 it culminated with the genocide in Srebrenica .Mass graves of Muslims remain scattered all over the beautiful mountainous areas of Bosnia.

Despite all these gruesome massacres, even today, neither Milosevic nor Mladic was described as terrorist by the Western media or the Western leaders who describe Osama Bin Laden as the worst terrorist though his crimes are yet to be proved? So much for   double   standard of Jewish controlled US and European Crusaders and their media towards Islam and Muslims.

    Bosnian Muslim prisoners. Trnopolje, Bosnia1992

Judge Fouad Riad of the United .Nations. tribunal said during Mladic's 1995 indictment in absentia that "there was evidence against Mladic of "unimaginable savagery. Thousands of men executed and buried in mass graves, hundreds of men buried alive, men and women mutilated and slaughtered, children killed before their mothers' eyes, a grandfather forced to eat the liver of his own grandson,"

This happened in Bosnia-Herzegovina, in the heart of Christian Europe, where Muslims, blue-eyed Europeans themselves, form the largest group in the population. Influenced for centuries by western culture for Bosnian Muslims, religion and religious traditions represented a crucial symbol of self-identity, though it was not easy to differentiate them from the predominantly Catholic Croats and Orthodox Serbs.

    http://photoarts.com/haviv/bosnia/image/ducksnipers.jpeg

In 1945, Bosnia-Herzegovina became a republic within the Yugoslav Socialist Federation and under President Tito's regime; Muslims were defined as a separate nation and enjoyed the same rights as others.

A child cries at his father's funeral. Croatia 1991

Problems began with the collapse of communism and the breakup of Yugoslavia in 1991.Following a referendum in April 1992, Bosnia-Herzegovina declared independence and emerged as a separate country. Bosnian Serb President Slobodan Milosevic of Yugoslavia unleashed a wave of violence, which later turned out to be the bloodiest ever war in Europe since World War II.  Bosnian Serb troops, led by Radovan Karadzic, the Ariel Sharon of  Bosnia, lay siege on the Bosnian capital Sarajevo controlled by Muslims. Violence broke out in the once peaceful area and  some of the worst ever genocides were committed against Muslims, who were detained in warehouses and other such places, starved for weeks, tortured, systematically and mercilessly butchered and buried in mass graves, some of which are yet to be identified.

Television footage of once healthy but starved, beaten, tortured and scantily dressed Muslims locked up by the hundreds in cattle-shed like enclosures spoke volumes for their plight.

Bosnians cry in fear as Serb commandos take over the town. Bosnia 1992

Inaction of Europe and the US to stop the genocide encouraged the Serbs to further intensify their carnage. In fact former French President Jack Chirac openly declared that France will never tolerate a Muslim entity in Europe

Even Bosnian Muslims themselves couldn't believe their plight because those who were burning and destroying their homes, villages and killing them were none other than their own friends and neighbors with whom they had lived in harmony and peace for generations.

One of the first casualties was the 16th-century Mostar City, built during the time of the Ottoman Empire and remained a symbol of Bosnia's cultural diversity, which was destroyed together with its famous bridge. The United Nations failed to act in time, but hoodwinked the world by   creating so called safe havens for Muslims in Sarajevo, Gorazde and Srebrenica where the Muslims didn't find any safety when their turn came to face Serb killers.

(Exhumation site shows mounds of bodies in the Srebrenica massszacre ( above) and Cancari Valley  below)

    Around 300,000 Muslims were

systematically butchered and 25,000 disabled. However no one really knows how many were killed as no proper records of killings were found yet. Hundreds of thousands of Muslim women and girls were gang raped by Serbian thugs. Several hundred thousand Muslim women who lived in peace lost their husbands, families, shelter and almost everything and thrown into streets with no means of survival. All these crimes took place for 44 long months between 1992 and 1995   under the watchful eyes of United States, Europe, United Nations and all other so called champions of human rights and freedom.

An eyewitness account of Srebrenica massacre said Muslims begged the Dutch Peacekeepers and other UN officials to save them. But Dutch soldiers refused and allowed the Serbs to take the Muslims away knowing very well that these Muslims would be slaughtered-as it happened later.

Five days after Serbs overran Srebrenica the entire Srebrenica region was turned into a slaughterhouse and the adjacent calm and serene beautiful valleys into mass graveyards - some yet to be identified and victims unearthed. Some say 7,000 Muslims were killed. Others put the figure at 10,000, while some estimate it as much more, though the world will never be told of the exact number British daily Independent said "UN let 8,000 to die in Srebrenica".

Name: 12.jpg Views: 1469 Size: 35.7 KB Describing how Muslims were mercilessly massacred, a Serb soldier Drazen Erdemovic, himself claimed to have killed one hundred Muslims in the Srebrenica massacre, told the war crimes tribunal of Milosevic that "Muslim men and boys were taken in busloads to a farm, systematically lined up and shot - first with machine-guns, then with a single pistol shot to the head". Many were blindfolded and had their hands tied. They first started mistreating people they recognized, and then started killing them all over the field. Yet he couldn't understand why it was done.

Former NATO Commander Wesley Clerk said that Milosevic had told him that he was aware a Srebrenica massacre was being planned. But nothing was done by anyone to stop this slaughter of Muslims.

Admitting the UN's failure the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan had this to say in his 155 page report on the massacre of Srebrenica Muslims:

"The massacre of Muslims would forever haunt the UN which must accept partial responsibility for this massacre, in the UN "safe area". The UN Security Council should have approved "more decisive and forceful action to prevent the unfolding horror". Not since the horrors of World War II had Europe witnessed massacres on this scale .The tragedy of Srebrenica will haunt our history forever and observers had been quick to blame the Dutch UN battalion which withdrew from Srebrenica in the face of Serb attack. But the Dutch commander's repeated requests for the use of air power were turned down and the UN was wrong to declare it would only use NATO air power against the Serbs as a last resort. The cardinal lesson of Srebrenica is that a deliberate and systematic attempt to terrorize, expel or murder an entire people must be met decisively with all necessary means, and with the political will to carry the policy through to its logical conclusion".

Criticizing the Security Council staff at the UN headquarters, including himself, UN peacekeepers in Srebrenica and the six-nation "Contact Group" that oversees the Balkans, Mr. Annah said that the "primary responsibility lay with wartime Bosnian-Serb leader Radovan Karadzic and his military chief General Ratko Mladic, who planned the killings. Both men have been indicted by the international war crimes tribunal but are still at large".

Kofi Annan said, "Remains of around 2,500 people have been found in mass graves. Thousands more who are still missing will probably be found in other burial sites. Many of those exhumed had their hands bound or were blindfolded. Some were shot in the back, others in the head. The fall of Srebrenica was "shocking" because the enclave's inhabitants had believed the UN and NATO would ensure their safety. Yet Serb forces ignored the Security Council, pushed aside the UN troops and overran Srebrenica with ease, and the military force should have been used to halt the killings".

Gravestones at the Potočari genocide memorial near Srebrenica

A public inquiry into the Srebrenica massacre by a Dutch parliamentary commission held the Dutch Government politically responsible for the massacre of Muslims at Srebrenica. The government of former Prime Minister Wim Kok's centre left cabinet resigned en masse after an official report by the Dutch War Archives Institute drew similar conclusions.

Criticizing the UN for failing to protect the Muslims, the inquiry report stated that the French General, Bernard Janvier, who was in charge of UN troops in the region, was wrong to refuse to allow air strikes to support the Dutch peacekeepers. This report also holds the former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic and his general, Ratko Mladic, ultimately responsible for the mass murders at Srebrenica.

The carnage in Bosnia ended, following the 1995 Dayton Peace Accord, which   created two entities; one for Bosnian Muslims and Croats, the other for Serbs each with its own government, parliament, president, police and military besides a central Bosnian government and rotating presidency with a NATO led peacekeeping force to ensure order and stability. Instead of integration, the two entities reinforced separation and nationalism.

Though the whereabouts of both Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic were open secret, they dare not arrest and bring them to the War Crimes Tribunal in The Hague. Perhaps the two may come out with information which may embarrass many European countries in view of their shady role in helping the   pair to continue their genocide and help Bosnia slide into the morass it is today.

On 11 March 2006, Slobodan Milosevic, charged with more than sixty counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity arising from wars in Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo, was found dead in his prison cell at the UN detention centre in Hague. Earlier Milosevic had complained that he had been poisoned with drugs.

Lamenting that he had died before being convicted shocked and deeply disappointed relatives of hundreds of thousands of Milosevic's victims said they had lost their chance to hear the verdict of impartial judges. Accusing the tribunal of failing to convict him, they pointed out that through five years, hundreds of witnesses, and tens of thousands of documents, the tribunal had ample evidence to convict Milosevic, but failed to do so and now, Milosevic could never be pronounced guilty or innocent.

Survivors of Srebrenica recount their ordeal. Tuzla 1995

The trial's premature conclusion also raised questions about the conduct of tribunal judges who made key decisions that led to an exhausting, expensive five-year process sending US$200 million down the drain.

"It's a huge setback for justice," said Richard Dicker, legal adviser of Human Rights Watch. "Most of all, it's a setback for the victims."

The judges "were deathly afraid that they would try him to death. And they did. That's exactly what happened," said Scharf, director of the Frederick K. Cox International Law Center at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. In hindsight, the legal experts said, the judges made a series of mistakes. They should not have allowed an ailing man to defend himself, they should not have agreed to join the three indictments into a single case and they should not have isolated Milosevic from other defendants facing the same charges.

Kids from Srebrenica at a United Nations camp. Tuzla 1995

Milosevic "ended up cheating history. One of main purposes of the tribunal was to create a historic record of atrocities and of who was responsible that would pierce years of propaganda," Scharf said.   "It would have been far better to have a verdict handed down by the tribunal on Milosevic's responsibility," said Dicker. But "history has already passed its verdict on Slobodan Milosevic's role and responsibility."

Now the question whether Ratco Mladic too will die before he is convicted?

    To: zoglul@hotmail.co.uk

Mahmudur Rahman: This India lackey govt has to be brought down through mass uprising.

He said, this govt is conspiring to turn our country into a vassal state of India. But the 16 crore people would stand up in resistance. He urged the people to unite. He also said that the Awami govt between 1972 and 1975 turned the country into a subservient state of India, and they imposed BKSAL to snatch democracy and independence of the people. It is through the 7 November army-people uprising in 1975 that our independence and sovereignty were safeguarded.

Genocide of Bosnian Muslims in the heart of Europe!

Influenced for http://photoarts.com/haviv/bosnia/image/ducksnipers.jpegcenturies by western culture for Bosnian Muslims, religion and religious traditions represented a crucial symbol of self-identity, though it was not easy to differentiate them from the predominantly Catholic Croats and Orthodox Serbs.

Around 300,000 Muslims were systematically butchered and 25,000 disabled.

    Name: 12.jpg
Views: 1469
Size: 35.7 KB Describing how Muslims were mercilessly massacred, a Serb soldier Drazen Erdemovic, himself claimed to have killed one hundred Muslims in the Srebrenica massacre, told the war crimes tribunal of Milosevic that "Muslim men and boys were taken in busloads to a farm, systematically lined up and shot - first with machine-guns, then with a single pistol shot to the head".
