[ALOCHONA] Probe identifies mastermind and associates

STOCK MARKET SCAM REPORT

Probe identifies mastermind and associates

Shahriar Noori

The three-member probe body on stock market scam found Salman Rahman and his associates as the masterminds behind the recent bourse debacle in the country, according to a reliable source.
An organised group took out or plundered at least Taka 3,000 crore from the small and medium investors through illegal manipulation, according to the findings of the report submitted to Finance Minister AMA Muhith.

The probe committee, formed on January 26 this year with Khondoker Ibrahim Khaled as its head, identified Salman Rahman, an Adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Private Sector Development, and Mosaddeq Ali Falu, a former private secretary to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, had taken the leading role in the manipulation game. The probe committee also spotted a group including ruling party MP CM Kamal (alias Lotus Kamal), Commerce Minister Faruk Khan's brother Azam Khan of Summit Group, HBM Iqbal, and Jahurul Huq Sikder for their involvement in the share scam.

   SEC officials
However, the unscrupulous activities remained hidden over the months due to corrupt practices of a section of officials of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
If the SEC officials were sincere with their responsibilities, the huge amount of money would not have been plundered from the country's share market so easily. Irregularities could have been prevented through regular checking of the depositing account of the share market, the investigation revealed.
For a long time the selling and buying activities in the bourse are being done through an automation system. So it is easy to monitor any manipulation and detect wrongdoers, the probe report observed.
The probe committee also detected a large number of individual accounts opened with misleading addresses and ambiguous photographs.

   200 people
According to an official of the probe committee, a total of 200 people were profusely benefited out of the recent share scam. They include officials from both civil and military services, bankers, police, intelligence officials, lawyers and the media professionals. The probe committee, however, submitted recommendation to stop recurrence of such incidents. It observed that if perpetrators in the share market get off scot-free, like that of 1996-97 scam, investment prospect of the country would turn bleak.

   SEC case in 1997
It may be mentioned that during the first tenure of Sheikh Hasina as Prime Minister, the SEC had filed a case on April 13, 1997 accusing 36 companies, including that of Salman Rahman, following a probe report. The probe committee headed by Professor Aminul Islam Chowdhury, former VC of Jahangirnagar University, had identified Salman Rahman as the main architect of the scam. He had manipulated the share market with the shares of his company Beximco Pharma, Shinepukur Ceramic and the securities company, the probe report had said.

According to latest report, Committee chairman Khondker Ibrahim Khaled handed over the report toFinance Minister AMA Muhith at the minister's Minto Road official residence around 9:30am on Thursday. Khaled, a career banker, dismissed the perception of political involvement in the Dec-Jan bubble trouble.
Drawn into main opposition BNP's claim that Tk 84,000 crore were channelled out of the market, the chief investigator said: "This is absolute trash."
"Tk 4000-5000 crore may have been laundered out of the country."

Khaled, before the formation of the probe body, had told the media that 10-15 politician-businessmen in the Awami League-BNP looted some Tk 150 billion from the stock market and that they would never reinvest the money.

[ALOCHONA] Re: Mukti Juddher Chetona

Is Islam turning into militant religion? Probably not yet, however if mass
Muslims do not retake hijacked Islam from mullahs then Islam surely will go into
militants hand. In most Muslim countries terrorism is a common disease and it is
growing like inferno.

Uneducated half cooked mullah and their so called political parties has taken
Islam from general mass and making it like something from another planet, so
unfamiliar so strange that it is hard to call Islam anymore. A big number of
madras no longer producing Aleem but mostly Jaleem who wants to go out with
sword in one hand while the other carrying Holly Quran and the body rapped with
bombs ready to blast to take life of common people Muslims and Others alike.
Turning Mosque and Madrasa into insulated breading ground for terrorists and
future terrorist. Muslim must claim their religion from so called Muslims like
Amine who breathe nothing but violence. Free young Madrasa students from Jaleem
like Amini and his hooligans.

I must say the numbers of militant Islam follower are small but they prevail
as the vast mass is either unaware or excavate their head into sand not to see
the incoming express tsunami. Bangladesh today faced the barbaric forces of evil
lead by mullah Amini and his so called Islamic Law Implementation Committee
(ILIC) against proposed National Women Development Policy 2011, High Court ban
on fatwa and the recently-formulated education policy. Mullahs and their
political wings are against the Muslim women getting their rightful share of
their family property. Amini and his gangs are out there to hijack our mothers
and sisters God given equal right to acquire and exercise property right.

Shamim Chowdhury

Watch this video where Amini says he will rip up the eyes if Police BDR Army
or administration even looks upon his people with crooked eye (April 2011)

Watch this video from April 2008 on same issue:

Note: I like to bring some very interesting point made by Mr. Akbar Hussain in reply to my earlier e-mail in this same issue.
Please read his e-mail below.

Thanks for your very pragmatic views expressed in the article. So far
I understand a vast majority of Muslims are of the type you suspected.
This is not ignorance alone, there is also fear. This ingredient of
fear instilled in the mind of the Muslims, not by the prophet of
Islam, but by some later over jealous mullahs to maintain their grip
in the community. The brew of ignorance and fear has become a lethal
force in Islam. Look at the hypocrisy when the mullahs claim that
Islam is a faith of peace and compassion but can’t castigate those
crazy souls who kill the innocent by killing themselves. Following
your article I went to listen to some of the related YOUTUBE clips of
the mullahs and astonished to see that these fellows are still living
in the dark medieval times. The mountain of ignorance they are still
professing is disgusting. If faith is used to distribute ignorance
among the masses that faith needs serious reconsideration. Pastor
Terry Jones of Gainesville, FL, is a fool and agitator, but killing of
the innocent people to avenge his foolishness is totally unacceptable
especially from the followers of a faith boasted as the perfect faith.
It’s lamentable that after 1500 years of existence and followed by
more than a billion people, Islam has come to a stage when its in need
of a renaissance for revitalization.

I thank you for  your reassurance that I will never be taken to "an oven, stake or even a candle". I feel so much better being the cowardly sort. And also apologize profusely for seeing the difference between a contest & celebration. Howver, my original comments stand.

Actually its a p###### protest, not a p###### contest. There is a difference. A p###### contest is what you actually have in parliament now. Surely the democrat in you realises this. And yes, it applies to religious kaatmullahs, who have no milk of human kindness, and armed forces, who stand by as comrades are butchered.

You might take an enormous risk and suggest whom you deem worthy of being prime minister. Its no crime. Its a common enough discussion in a democracy. Except in Bangladesh. Here we like to keep our mouth shut because we are oh so respectable. And oh so cowardly.

And while you focus on figures of speech I am entitled to point out that murder, extortion, conspiracy and mayhem are actually already perpetrated by thugs of your preferred, precious party. Why are you so understanding? Amra tho fakir, shomoi lagbeh?

Don't worry. You could never be taken to an oven, stake or even a candle. You are far too cautious to object directly against status quo politics. : )

Re: [ALOCHONA] The Fund To Make A Point

Wow what an idea? a p.......g contest.

I am sure the "democrat" in you will ensure it also applies to the religious or military dictator or "so-called good person" you will determine to be worthy of ruling us corrupt Bongos!!! ie. those of us that survive the oven or the STAKE....

Dear Alochoks

I have come up with a brilliant idea.

I would like to create a fund of Taka 365,000. From this fund we would pay Taka 1,000 every day to a poor person to urinate on our Parliament Building. In one grand move we would be helping a poor person earn money at spectaular taka per second rate and also let Parliament know what we think about it and also highlight the lack of sanitation in the capital.

What do you think?

Of course we would have to be politically neutral. So this would take place every day irrespective of who is in or out of Parliament. And if, for example, Khaleda turns up after a long gap we could have more people urinating on that day to compensate for her absence.

I think this could work. I don't think its illegal. Of course the police may arrest the guy if he does not confess to being a member of Chatra League. But we could have a separate legal fund for him. Say another Taka 1,000 to pay the cop to release h! im.

What do you think?

No exceptions for National Holidays :)

In fact on National Holidays I might go myself.

For free :)

Friends

It is an established fact that  literate(fools) and illiterate Hindus are by born against ISLAM. The reason being the wide acceptance of the basic human principles of ISLAM which caters the need of day to day life of an individual irrespective of social standing or society and the whole nation and the globe as well. It strictly teaches n instructs it's followers not to be blind and die hard and be harsh against other believers of faiths and rather respect them with right dignity.  But the followers of the HINDUISM on getting any opportunity to undermine any religion specially ISLAM they do not leave any stone unturned to defame, denigrate the religion as well it's followers. Dada Amartya is no exception.

As Dada Amartya was well received by the PM and BAL to undermine our great son Md. Yunus, so, he is taking opportunity to set their vicious black teeth against ISLAM and high light their religion HINDUISM which in fact preachers hatred and discriminate amongst people of the tribe just due to birth by the class distinctively made by the so-called brute upper class Brahmins to squeeze the lower class forever.

Amartya dada is no different than literate(fools) and at last joined the queue of the ignorant fascist fundamentalist HINDUS and so-called secular K.Jibis supporting  the rubbish bull shit so-called religion created by Akbar

It is doubtful whether an warrior like Akbar that he had so much time and prudence (since he was an illiterate person + busy day in n day out to face war) to write such an attractive treatise to allure people out  from an established and respected religion ISLAM. Some say that it was Akbar's one type of diplomatic endeavour to appease the majority HINDUS of then INDIA to come and rally behind him since he showed that he has left ISLAM and believes in faith other than ISLAM. This he has done with the intention that HINDUS will support him since they(HINDUS) were die hard against ISLAM considering Muslims are invaders.

One wonders looking at the insular fundamentalist attitude of the  Noble Laureate Amartya who is suppose to uphold the cause of the people to unite n have solidarity instead he is echoing the sentiments of the blood sucker Bal Thakre/ Adbhani who has strictly asked the Muslims of the secular(???) HINDU  STAAN either become HINDU or leave HINDU STAAAN. What a tragedy of down grading in thinking of the world famous celebrity. Then what is the difference between him and the blood monger HINDU fundamentalist  in secular HINDU STAAAN.

The conscious people who had some iota of respect for the Noble Laureate  feels very frustrated and shocked observing the insular fundamentalist face. So, it is clear that how much a HINDUSTANI talks and claims to be so-called secular overtly but in fact they do neither believe nor practices the same. At the back of their mind they have hatred against MUSLIMS and wishes to subjugate them as well followers of other religious faith within their jurisdiction.

Conscious people should reject  Dada Amartya's book in totality and identify him as a fundamentalist Hindu.

Amartya Sen on religion

Amartya in his 'The Argumentative Indian' has repeatedly mentioned that (Islamic and Muslim) tradition should be rejected and 'rahi aqbal' theory given by Emperor Akbar should be accepted as the main principle. He has even gone to the extent of saying that this demon tradition should and must be fought and rejected by the society.'

Dr Sen says, "Akbar not only made unequivocal pronouncements on the priority of tolerance, but also laid the formal foundations of a secular legal structure and of religious neutrality of the state. ...Despite his deep interest in other religions and his brief attempt to launch a new religion, Din-ilahi (God's religion), based on a combination of good points chosen from different faiths, Akbar did remain a good Muslim himself."

"The pursuit of reason and rejection of traditionalism are so brilliantly patent as to be above the need of argument. If traditionalism were proper, the prophets would merely have followed their own elders (and not come with new messages".

What Hasina Wazed does is simly called mockery. She is not a secular person at all. Secular political persons were Jinnah and Nehru. Nehru did not go to a Mandir at all as a prime minister to keep his secular attire. Jinnah was out and out secular in his life style and practice.

[ALOCHONA] Yunus case can hurt ties: Blake

Yunus case can hurt ties: Blake

Wed, Apr 6th, 2011 10:15 pm BdST

Dhaka, Apr 6 (bdnews24.com) — A senior US foreign ministry official has said the bitter battle between Muhammad Yunus and the government could strain growing ties between the two countries.

US assistant secretary of state for South Asia Robert O Blake, who had visited Dhaka last month, made the remark in a Congressional hearing on Tuesday.

"I warned that a failure to find a compromise 'that respects Yunus' global stature and maintains the integrity and effectiveness of Grameen Bank' could hurt the bilateral relations," he said.

The United States warned last month that ties with Bangladesh could be affected if a solution was not found to the clash.

The Supreme Court on Monday confirmed the High Court ruling that backed the sacking of the Nobel Peace laureate from Grameen Bank as its managing director.

Yunus has gone on to move the Supreme Court for withdrawal of its order in what should be his last throw of the dice in the harsh legal battle over the future control of Grameen Bank.

"The Bangladesh government and Dr Yunus have become embroiled in a struggle for control of Grameen Bank, which has implications for the health of Bangladesh's civil society," Blake said.

A copy of the full text of the hearing is with bdnews24.com.

"When I went to Bangladesh two weeks ago, Dr James Wolfensohn and I pressed the Government of Bangladesh to protect the integrity of civil society and the autonomy of the Grameen Bank," he told the hearing committee.

"Grameen Bank was a pioneer of the concept of 'microcredit' – providing small loans to tens of millions of Bangladeshis, especially women, who possess little or no collateral."

He said Bangladesh "also can be proud of its vibrant and innovative civil society, which has produced such outstanding global citizens as Nobel Peace Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus."

The US secretary of state Hillary Clinton is a close friend of Yunus, who has won the two highest civilian honours of the US — American Presidential Medal of Freedom and Congressional Gold Medal.

Blake, however, said the United States had a 'strong interest in maintaining close relations' with Bangladesh, which was 'a secular democracy and moderate Muslim country with a history of religious and ethnic tolerance'.

The US government intended to work with Bangladesh and its people to advance "our common interests and help sustain the country's upward movement", he added.

The dismissal of Yunus caused an international outcry with the US criticising Bangladesh's handling of the affair. Yunus' supporters said the firing was the culmination of a political vendetta against him.

Prime Minister Skeikh Hasina last year accused Yunus, who briefly set up his own political party in 2007 during the military-run caretaker government, of using 'tricks' to avoid taxes and 'sucking blood of the poor' with his bank's loans.

Last month in Dhaka, Blake issued a thinly-veiled threat that if a compromise was not reached at on the Yunus issue, the US-Bangladesh relationship would get 'impacted'.

"We in the United States have been deeply troubled by the difficulties he is currently facing," he had told the media at press conference.

Blake had also discussed the issue with both prime minister Hasina and leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia.
He had reiterated his appeal for a "compromise" solution that would preserve Grameen's "integrity and independence".

"Such a compromise will also allow us to continue the very good progress we have made in our bilateral relations," he told reporters after meeting Hasina.

Separately, the 26 members of the US congressional caucus on Bangladesh wrote last week to Hasina, warning that the campaign against Yunus was "beginning to overshadow" what had been the improving US-Bangladesh relationship.

Finance minister AMA Muhith last month said the government would be open to to some compromise – such as to allow Yunus to remain an emeritus fellow at Grameen – but not, however, to his proposal that he should step aside as managing director and be made chairman instead.

Yunus, 70, was sacked for having no legal authority to act as the micro-lender's managing director, since its board had not obtained the Bangladesh Bank's sanction to re-appoint him beyond the bank's official retirement age of 60.
