democracy?

for how long?

Dear Alochoks,

Please do not listen to this kind of nonsense - the people of BD will never allow another military coupé by dishonest, corrupt, criminal army officers who come to power just to look after their own interest. Look at all the other countries in which the army are the ruling elite - like Burma, former Pakistani administration led by generals. This will ruin the chances of BDs progress in economy and social harmony.

The army should have only one purpose in life - defend the mother land. BD has made significant progress in the last decades. We should not look back to the past and live in the past and move on. My main frustration is that both main parties in BD carries a lot of emotional baggage that people of BD could do without.

Sir Winston Churchill was one of the most popular prime minister of Britain but does anyone know what his family members are doing right now? They are certainly not in the Cabinet office of current UK government! So what rights do the present leaders of Bangladesh have to become prime minister or leader of the political parties apart from being relatives of past political leaders and dictators?

Salam.

The article outlines the misrule of the present BAL government and its false propaganda. To refute some of the false propaganda, the article cites historical documents on 7 November 1975, finally stating that as the political government failed then, the army thus came forward. Is it a subtle hint?

[ALOCHONA] Bangladesh Fooled By Indian Tansit Deal--Says who?

The Policy of Anti Awami League people is drawn by ISI.
FACT:
1. Pakistan does not want any Indian Influence in BD, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bhutan doesn't matter how good some deal with India is for these countries.
2. ISI has been spending billions on Terrorism everywhere in the world, not only in BD.

Re: [ALOCHONA] Hindu temple vandalized by ruling party men in Bangladesh

Hope Bangladesh Hindu Buddha Christian Oikya Parishad will talk to our PM to bring justice to Utpal Saha and other BCL terrorists who attacked a place of worship.

I hope our lawmakers are watching these news where minorities are being left unprotected by our administration. According to the following report, all these attackers were Hindus themselves. Why Hindu leaders are not speaking up against them?

While we are going after those "Pakistani allies of 71" who burnt this temple during 71, it is equally important that, we do not live in the past and take strict measures on these extortionist vandals  who are attacking a place of worship in the year 2010.

Should we wait 30 more years before we do something about it? I hope not.......

Shalom.

Hindu temple vandalized by ruling party men in Bangladesh

A group of ruling party activists of Dhaka University wing vandalized several deities at Ramna Kali Mandir [Temple of goddess Kali in Dhaka] following confrontation between activists of the same party on question of collecting extortion from the locality.
Right after the incident, police arrested Animesh, Govinda and Prakash, who are members of Bangladesh Chhatra League [student from of the ruling party] from the spot while they were continuing such notoriety.
Police sources told reporters that the clash had erupted over ownership and extortion into shops located in the area.According to eye witnesses, during afternoon of Saturday [October 30, 2010], at least 45-50 activists of the ruling Bangladesh Awami League [BAL]'s student front, led by Utpal Saha, armed with machetes, iron rods, cricket stumps and hockey sticks went on the rampage and vandalized at least two deities inside the temple and ransacked the rooms of the priest.
It may be mentioned here that, since Bangladesh Awami League came in power in January 2009, members of its student wing are seen active in violence in almost all the university campuses in the country. Bangladesh Chhatra League is openly involving in extortion, terrorism, grabbing land and properties and various forms of illegal activities and the government has virtually become captive in their hands.

The above show has been ably displayed by both the two big political partY BNP and BAL against one another resulting in the gory present situation causing the nation to suffer and suffer.

The unfortunate populace is wondering when their plight will change to the direction of the

Perhaps, the insular politics will reward us with more n more tears in days to come paving the way to make ocean of tears to celebrate the "Mohan Shadhnata"????

Re: [ALOCHONA] brutality in Bangladesh

If you need to look into the issue you should go back to the Teachers as a community and their back ground.

Majority of them are recruited on different criteria over their merit or qualification as a teacher. Political link and influence is one of the greatest culprit and the Prime Minister is the prime patron. Since PM is the epicenter of all powers in our system therefore she should be blame for this recruitment and if one raise any blame should blame Hasina or in other time Khaleda. Recently even AL supporter needs to pay money along with his/her proof of loyalty. Once recruited these teacherse do not get proper training or supervisory guidance or monitoring, often taming them become difficult out of their political lineage. So an untrained teacher what would they teach? They only can create stories for Daily Star like the very distrubing picture that has been published for sell in this instance.

Every one understands the story being said. But for a criminalised society, perceive as you may think fit to your pattern, we do not expect better than this, listen to the main political players, their culture, actions, and vibes do you get any better than this. If you are not an Awami Leagure (now) you would agree with me.

Then again a society live with what they deserve, not being an Awami Leagure yet I do not voice strongly against the social malaise that is being inherited or created by the incumbent. Those sold out to AL dominates in this turn.

You can see how all the successive government's desperate machination destroyed all our basic institutions, say teachers training institute, PSC, hence most relevant to the issue. How much do we voice for good training budget and strengthening these institutions?

Today situation is such a dire state you can not even punish any wrong doing teacher, you can guess why. So what remains other than Daily Star to publish such an article.

a boy died after he followed his teacher's suggestion to ingest rat poison.

I would like to ask the so called "Teacher" to consume some rat poison.

These punishments are from the dark ages and uncivilized. If we like to be treated like "Civilized" people, we have to stop this type of severe beating of kids over trivial matters. These so called "Teachers" needs to be punished and re-educated in teaching methods.

All the talk about our "Great" culture, history and struggles [These ideas only inflate our ego] will not rid us the sins of tolerating such abuse of the innocent children. I am very disturbed.......

Banning corporal punishment extensively

Heather N. Goldsmith

The media has recently given us a glimpse into the lives of some of Bangladesh's children: a girl with disabilities was beaten for failing to contribute to the school fund, eight students were hospitalised after being punished for forgetting to bring colour pencils to class, a young girl had a mental breakdown after being tied to a bench as punishment, and a boy died after he followed his teacher's suggestion to ingest rat poison.
A 2008 study by Unicef indicates that these are not isolated incidents -- 91% of the students surveyed reported that they had been abused by teachers.
