What you are saying is not based on any logic, it's blathering. I gave you an example of a great leader, like Lee Kuan Yew, and asked you to show me a similar leader in Bangladesh, who, with his vision and ideology, could transform Bangladesh into a Sonar Bangla, the dream of millions who joined the liberation struggle?
The country is much more communal now than before liberation period. Who are the beneficiary today? Beneficiaries are the people who opposed the independence. Don't you see that?
Why is that? Independence struggle was inspired by a secular spirit of Bangal-Jatiotabad, and a dream of a Sonar Bangla. What happened after the independence?  Our Bongabondhu came back from Pakistan, and rushed to join OIC, thus planting the seed of communalism in the then secular newborn country. That country has become a 44 years old matured communal country.
So, get over your childlike emotions, man, if you want to see/know the truth. Learn to judge things based on logic, not emotions.
Only you can make fake great leaders from inflating emotion and flowery talks, but not the real one. The real great leaders are made by their achievements and deeds.
And, about assassination; tell me - which head of state would brush off secret service alert requesting additional protection out of belief that no one would kill him?

I feel like pitying you. You don't see any great leader in Bangladesh. That some American presidents got assassinated does not mean that they were not great. Get rid of your inferiority complex as a citizen, man. Learn to respect yourself.

Who are those great leaders of Bangladesh? You are expert in making mountains out of molehills. Are you that naïve?
Do you see any great leader(s) in Bangladesh, like Lee Kuan Yew, who single-handedly built the modern Singapore? He is the father of the modern Singapore. In contrast, father of Bangladesh got killed due to his lack of foresight and over confidence, and left Bangladesh orphan right after the birth. This country has become a failed state, where civilized people are under seize, and criminals and assassins room freely. You should be proud of your great leaders' achievements!

I don't know what to say. I have already said that Bhasani's political career was colorful and controversial. Which political leader's political career is not controversial? Which political leader maintained his or her integrity? I remember Professor Muzaffar Ahmad who has recently refused to accept the Swadhinota Podok advocated for Islamic socialism during the political vacuum that was created when Zia captured power illegally through so called November  revolution.

We should have broadness of mind to evaluate our great leaders with fairness. Blanket comment by bishwa ninduk like Das is simply outrageous.

1. 1957 Kagmari conference strong voice for independent East Pskistan.
2. 1970 Novrmber cyclone: in Paltan declared independence.
3. Chairman of the advisory committee of the Mujibnagar govt.
4. Came to politics following C. R. Das.
5. Fought for immigrants and peasants in Assam.
6. Demanded for the right to speak Bengali in EP assembly.
7. Formed Awami Muslim League.
8. Formed NAP.
9. Went in hunger strike when inmate communists were killed.
10. Mahiuddin called him Indian agent.
11. Pakistan govt. called him communist.
12. Was against joining SEATO and CENTO.
13. Led 1969 mass upsurge.
14. Supported Mujib's 7th search speech immediately.
15. Formed leftist coalition in Kolkata in 1971.
16. Mujib used to take advice from him.
17. Farakka michhil to protest india's unilateral decision.

I have even participated in Farakka march along with Bhasani for a few yards in Rajshahi before it ended. Politics of Bhasani was spreading hate against India. He was requested by Bangabandhu to do so according to a secular Muslim friend of mine. There is no substance ever in Mawlana Chakrabarty's opinions. He has studied nothing and understood even less!

Let me little blunt here. Bhasani is just another Bangladeshi product with poor quality. He could speak few Bangla words and agitate people with his no substance oratory and that is all he had in his arsenal. There are very few politicians in Bangladesh that we can really call gifted, intelligent and consistent. Great leaders are not created in the vacuum. This is a curse for us and we may have to live few more decades for a true messiah to appear and save us from this horrible ongoing nightmare. Lets not pass any comments about our two great Begums (add Didi from the next door too).

Mr. Chakraborty, what's the big picture? Big picture is what we see today, not what was centuries ago.

You are trying to defend your positions based on the positions taken centuries ago. Perceptions change with time. Only test of time will tell who is right or wrong. Look around, and make your own judgment.
I observed Bhasani as an unreliable political leader, who could change political positions frequently. He was a good political agitator, not a serious political leader.

I have never seen so much cynicism in a person. Prof. Das sees only negativities in people. When he came to know that Rabindranath called Muhammed a great sage, he referred to a CU test in which one of the questions was to find spelling mistakes in one excerpt from Rabindranath. When he heard that Vivekananda praised Islam on one point, he totally dumped him. He did the same thing with Mujib and Bertrand Russell. He finds only negativities. I hope he will learn the art of criticism. I hope he will learn to look at big picture. Bhasani stole a cow. Maybe true. But what a silly quote and low level talk about a prominent figure!

Usually I try to ignore him. But sometimes I can't because he gets too personal and aggressive.

Thus Chakrabarty and Mushrafi flock together in support of a devious and dubious Mawlana Bhasani who lacked formal education, was not even a graduated mawlana, learned Arabic only by rote of the holy Quran. He hailed from Serajganj, left home after stealing a cow from his peasant father who insisted on his attention to formal education, and ultimately got included in the pay roll of Ispahani as a Muslim League cadre before the partition of India. He was an opportunist as always. From "Don't disturb Ayub" to "Kick the ballot box" policies he adopted, he proved his role as a B-team leader to the ruling oligarchy in Pakistan. As he was denied a role after the military crackdown, he became subversive and remained so till his end.

I said Bangladeshis are, in general, communal because in the olden days we could not tolerate the 'Biharis' and the Hindus. After independence we got rid of the Biharis, but cannot tolerate the Hindus and now there are rumblings that the Ahmadis, Shias and other non-Sunnis are to be got rid of. Aren't these blatant signs of communalism? How nice a country could have been without such sectarianism and communalism!

And as regards selfishness, it goes without saying that almost everybody in the Indian subcontinent (India, Pakistan and Bangladesh) is selfish. There are, of course, some exceptions. However, among this selfish genre, the religious people are more selfish that others. The main reason is that the religious people have to spend money in the name of God ('kurbani', 'jakat', 'Hajj' etc) on top of the State taxes and quite often they acquire such extra money by resorting to all sorts of illegal means.

Personally I have huge respect for Bhasani. I don't see when he betrayed common people. He was always ahead in every progressive movement. If he were alive, he would have alliance with Jamaat-Islami! Alliance in what sense? The kind of alliance BNP has? I doubt. The kind of invisible alliance sometimes AL had or has? Might be, but as a strategy in a democratic movement.

Bangladeshis are extremely communal and selfish! I cannot quite agree with Dr. Rahman. It is a big topic.

Bhasani was not the man that people try to portray him as he was. If he were alive, I bet, the man would would have had an alliance with the Jamatis. Bluntly put, he was an erratic individual with too many contradictions. I am not sure what he was really standing or fighting for?

And, for Avijit, I do not think Bangladeshis really care much about him. He is just another name and people are already openly justifying his gruesome murder. That is our reality in Bangladesh. And it is not going to change anytime soon.
