Dear All
As country is passing through political crisis of its highest level
in its history, less enthusiasm was seen in celebration of the
Independence Day.  BAL Govt could not arrange Armed Forces
Ceremonial Parade (in fear of a cou ?).  And the citizens of the
country passed the day with fear about the future, instead of
feeling of festival.  With solem selute to the Freedom Fighters
who gave their life for independence and their living comreds-
today's DDD is prepared on মহান স্বাধীনতা দিবস.  It covers few
days diary, with pictures in 6 pages, around Independence Day.

RE: [mukto-mona] কোথায় বুদ্ধিজীবিরা

No one expect all will be angels in politics. The human being do mistakes. When time changes the actions of the past can be interpreted in a critical way. But above all the intention of the actions must be judged. One can be an expert sitting in the audience gallery to criticise the players. But the criticizer would be the least capable to handle the game.

But all will probably agree that there were/are politicians and intellectuals in every nation those who are power grabby, shrewd and with evil intentions.  Some of them do it knowingly (devils) and some of them unknowingly (because of their blind convictions).

Thus Chakrabarty and Mushrafi flock together in support of a devious and dubious Mawlana Bhasani who lacked formal education, was not even a graduated mawlana, learned Arabic only by rote of the holy Quran. He hailed from Serajganj, left home after stealing a cow from his peasant father who insisted on his attention to formal education, and ultimately got included in the pay roll of Ispahani as a Muslim League cadre before the partition of India. He was an opportunist as always. From "Don't disturb Ayub" to "Kick the ballot box" policies he adopted, he proved his role as a B-team leader to the ruling oligarchy in Pakistan. As he was denied a role after the military crackdown, he became subversive and remained so till his end.

After independence we got rid of the Biharis, but cannot tolerate the Hindus and now there are rumblings that the Ahmadis, Shias and other non-Sunnis are to be got rid of. Aren't these blatant signs of communalism? How nice a country could have been without such sectarianism and communalism!

And as regards selfishness, it goes without saying that almost everybody in the Indian subcontinent (India, Pakistan and Bangladesh) is selfish. There are, of course, some exceptions. However, among this selfish genre, the religious people are more selfish that others. The main reason is that the religious people have to spend money in the name of God ('kurbani', 'jakat', 'Hajj' etc) on top of the State taxes and quite often they acquire such extra money by resorting to all sorts of illegal means.

Personally I have huge respect for Bhasani. I don't see when he betrayed common people. He was always ahead in every progressive movement. If he were alive, he would have alliance with Jamaat-Islami! Alliance in what sense? The kind of alliance BNP has? I doubt. The kind of invisible alliance sometimes AL had or has? Might be, but as a strategy in a democratic movement.

Bangladeshis are extremely communal and selfish! I cannot quite agree with Dr. Rahman. It is a big topic.

And, for Avijit, I do not think Bangladeshis really care much about him. He is just another name and people are already openly justifying his gruesome murder. That is our reality in Bangladesh. And it is not going to change anytime soon.

Re: [mukto-mona] Khaleda: cruelest terrorist leader

Your opinion does not make any sense. You said BNP just want to go to power by any means, including undemocratic means. I completely agree with you. But, then you said - Awami League should talk to BNP.
What's the point of talking to a party, if it does not care about democratic process? BNP has to carry out Jamati plans now, most of which are undemocratic means. Democratic system cannot function with political parties that do not follow democratic means. That's exactly the problem, I see, in Bangladesh.
I wonder if Amartya Sen also believe democracy will come to Bangladesh if Awami League talks to Jamat.

The only answer is that BNP does not care about the country and the people. They will do any thing to go to power. They don't care whether the movement is democratic or not. AL should also be more accommodative and start talking. Democracy works well when you talk and are allowed to talk. In a recent visit to Bangladesh Prof. Amartya Sen emphasized on this. People are now sick of terrorism  by BNP-Jamaat and the state terrorism as well. I hope sense will come to both the position and opposition.

What is the achievement of the so called ceaseless blockade by BNP?
The answer would be – just killing innocent people, and destroying private properties. Is this the goal of the blockade? I don't think so. Then why is this blockade being extended continuously? Can we conclude that - BNP is somehow happy with the outcome of the blockade? That's hard to understand; isn't it?
Also, asking the government to stop  these atrocities is just one part of the equation; the other part is - what BNP is doing to stop it. Remember, there is no burning when there is no blockade.
I get amazed by the mindset of the Bangladeshi people. It is immaterial who is doing these terrorism, the root cause is the blockade. I know – BNP has the right to call for blockade. Yes, that's true only if there is peoples' support for the blockade. I do not see any support for the blockade at all. I am sure BNP leaders also think so. Then, why is blockade being extended continuously, only to kill innocent people and their properties? No one is asking these questions to BNP.

<<  From September to December in 2013, under the leadership of Khaleda, they again started terrorism. At that time, they had taken control Upzala ( First unit of the administration) of the country. One was Chittagong and two was Satkhira district. Then they killed more than three hundred people, burnt to death more than one hundred people; destroyed 987 temples anda heritage pagoda. More than one thousand five hundred Idols of the Goddess and twenty six thousand houses of the Hindu, Buddhist and Christian were destroyed by them. Even they chopped a two and half year's Hindu baby. However, the then government got successful to break their ugly hand.

All the terrorists are always very sneaky so they retreat from the fight and went to hide. Last one year they organized again in Bangladesh under the leadership of Khaleda Zia. In the mean time they have improve the connection of Al Qaida, IS, BokoHaram , Islamic Brother Hood, Harkatul Jihad and others. On the other hand Pakistani Inter service intelligence is (ISI) pumping huge amounts money to the Bangladeshi terrorist. Some of the ISI men direct supervise the terrorist of Bangladesh to sit in Bangladesh as a diplomat veil. Some of the IS and Taliban trainer enter in Bangladesh. Under the coverage of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party(BNP) and some government officer who are loyal to the terrorist, they make training camp in the remote hill and the river shores. >>

I have even participated in Farakka march along with Bhasani for a few yards in Rajshahi before it ended. Politics of Bhasani was spreading hate against India. He was requested by Bangabandhu to do so according to a secular Muslim friend of mine. There is no substance ever in Mawlana Chakrabarty's opinions. He has studied nothing and understood even less!

Let me little blunt here. Bhasani is just another Bangladeshi product with poor quality. He could speak few Bangla words and agitate people with his no substance oratory and that is all he had in his arsenal. There are very few politicians in Bangladesh that we can really call gifted, intelligent and consistent. Great leaders are not created in the vacuum. This is a curse for us and we may have to live few more decades for a true messiah to appear and save us from this horrible ongoing nightmare. Lets not pass any comments about our two great Begums (add Didi from the next door too).

Mr. Chakraborty, what's the big picture? Big picture is what we see today, not what was centuries ago.

You are trying to defend your positions based on the positions taken centuries ago. Perceptions change with time. Only test of time will tell who is right or wrong. Look around, and make your own judgment.
I observed Bhasani as an unreliable political leader, who could change political positions frequently. He was a good political agitator, not a serious political leader.

I have never seen so much cynicism in a person. Prof. Das sees only negativities in people. When he came to know that Rabindranath called Muhammed a great sage, he referred to a CU test in which one of the questions was to find spelling mistakes in one excerpt from Rabindranath. When he heard that Vivekananda praised Islam on one point, he totally dumped him. He did the same thing with Mujib and Bertrand Russell. He finds only negativities. I hope he will learn the art of criticism. I hope he will learn to look at big picture. Bhasani stole a cow. Maybe true. But what a silly quote and low level talk about a prominent figure!

Usually I try to ignore him. But sometimes I can't because he gets too personal and aggressive.
