Kam Sin Wong, left, a Chinese junket operator in the Philippines, presents a document beside lawyers as hearings continue into how about $81 million of Bangladesh's stolen funds were transmitted online to four private accounts at a branch of the Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. during the Philippine Senate Blue Ribbon Committee probe Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the Philippine Senate in suburban Pasay, south of Manila, Philippines. Testimonies at the Philippine Senate hearing showed around $6.9 million out of the $81 million stolen by cyber criminals from the Bangladesh central bank's account in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and transmitted to fictitious bank accounts in the Philippines remain in local casinos and may still be recovered. AP/Aaron Favila

MANILA, Philippines – Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto on Thursday said that the masterminds of the $81-million money laundering scheme might be from China.

"This has all the makings of a made-in-China problem. Ang problemang ito nagmula sa labas, hindi sa Pilipinas," Recto said.

Recto added that the Philippines was also deceived by the perpetrators of the scheme as there might have been an "inside job" on the hacking at Bangladesh Central Bank.

The senator also noted that the wire transfer to the New York Federal Reserve was cleared, adding that the reserve din not conduct an investigation on the issue.

"Pati yung mga US banks na unang pinagpasahan ng pera, nagbigay ng go signal. Bakit nalusutan ang verification process?" the senator said.

Recto stressed that the accomplices involved in the banking heist were not even Filipino nationals.

"Kahit Chinese nationals ang involved, and I am not referring to Kim Wong, ni piyok sa Beijing wala tayong narinig. Lumapit lang ang isang bangka sa Panatag Shoal, nagtatatalak na sila," Recto said.

Casino junket operator Kim Wong recentlyturned over $4.63 million to the Anti-Money Laundering Council following his promise.

Wong testified before the Senate blue ribbon committee that he was not involved in the entry into the country of $81 million stolen from the Bangladesh bank account in the New York Federal Reserve.

[mukto-mona] Religion-based Nationalism is back in Full Force

<< The two-nation theory fueled communalism, assisted by another colonial contribution which was the Census that led to describing Indian society as consisting of a majority community and minority communities. To this was added the colonial theory of the foundation of Indian civilisation being the Aryanism of the Vedas. This contributed to the concept of the nation as a Hindu Rashtra and the Hindu therefore being the primary citizen of India. >>

In the 1960s we were confident that the use of religion for political mobilisation would decline because nationalism, namely, the secular, all-inclusive, anti-colonialism nationalism that brought us independence, would, despite Partition, be firmly established. This was in some ways such a firm belief that it was not thought necessary to specify the inclusion of secularism in the Constitution at the initial stage.  This has not happened. Religion as political mobilisation, and religion-based identity as the core of nationalism, sometimes called communalism, is back in full force.
