সাম্প্রদায়িকতা নির্মূল হলেই সম্ভব 'বিকাশ যজ্ঞ': মোদি

Re: [mukto-mona] Fw: Government enough to secure religious minorities in Bangladesh, says information minister

Religious minorities asking protection from foreign governments is nothing new. Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council have been lobbying foreign governments around the world for decades for protecting religious minorities in Bangladesh. So, nothing out of the way this time around, since religious minority persecution continues unabated, irrespective of which party in power.
I agree that - Bangladesh government should seek help from other countries as well, because – other side is already getting help from foreign countries.

"Government is enough to secure religious minorities …."
Really? Then, what's stopping the government to do just that?
The fact is - government is totally impotent to confront religious fanatics, who are striving to make Bangladesh Islamic State again, and they are being aided by Pakistan, Turkey, and other Muslim countries around the world. Unfortunately, this condition did not come overnight.
Religious minorities have been reminding the government, for decades, about this threat, but Awami-government has been ignoring this threat for years, until recently.
Unfortunately, the threat has been matured now, so much, to even threaten the current government, and I do not think this government has the capability to confront it alone.  Slogan like this will not solve the problem.
Bangladesh government must seek help from other foreign governments, including India, to confront the threat head-on. Minority leaders may have paved the way for it already.

Minority groups in Bangladesh do not have to seek help from a neighbouring country as their own government is 'enough' to ensure safety, Information Minister Hasaul Haq Inu has said.
The government's tough stance has ensured the religious rights of minority groups, he said in a press conference at the Secretariat on Monday.

Multiple newspapers in India have cited the Press Trust of India (PTI) to suggest that 'two leaders from Bangladesh's Hindu community' had sought security from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the killing of several Hindus.

A journalist asked Inu to comment on the report.

"The government is working to maintain harmony. Pujas are celebrated alongside the Eid of sacrifice. They can practise their faith because the government is providing security."

"So I don't believe there is a need to urge the leader of a neighbouring country for ensuring security of minority religious groups. We are enough."

The PTI report used by Indian media quoted a representative of the Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council and a former managing director of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation.

The minister claimed the targeted killings by suspected militants were part of an anti-government conspiracy
being led by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

"Religious minorities have come under this attack like other ordinary citizens of this country."

"These have not destroyed our communal harmony. There are no riots... these are attacks by terrorists."

[mukto-mona] Fw: UN human rights chief asks Bangladesh to prioritise investigation, prosecution of recent killings

http://bdnews24.com/bangladesh/2016/06/13/un-human-rights-chief-asks-bangladesh-to-prioritise-investigation-prosecution-of-recent-killings

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein has asked the Bangladesh government to make "investigating and prosecuting" the perpetrators of the recent wave of killings "a priority".
"I am very concerned about the dramatically increased number of brutal murders in Bangladesh that target freethinkers, liberals, religious minorities and LGBT activists," he said, speaking at a UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday.
He has urged all government officials and political and religious leaders "to unequivocally condemn these attacks on freedom, and to do more to protect affected groups".
The high commissioner was speaking on the worrying trends in human rights around the world, including concerns about the situation in more than 50 countries, according to the UN Geneva.
Secular bloggers, online activists, academics, gay rights activists, and members of religious minorities including Shia, Sufi and Ahmadi Muslims, Christians and Hindus were killed in the last two years, many of them were hacked to death.
It is still unclear who is exactly behind those killings. But groups linked to the radical Islamic State (IS) or al-Qaeda have reportedly claimed many of those murders.
However, police have rejected the claims of the IS and said 'home-grown' outfits were behind those killings.
The government also blames the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, who have trashed those claims as "politically motivated".
Police recently launched a crackdown on Islamists after the wife of a senior police officer was hacked to death.
The UN rights chief noted recent reports of police arrests in his speech and said: "I urge that investigating and prosecuting the perpetrators of these vicious crimes be made a priority, with full respect for human rights."
