[ALOCHONA] RE: [KHABOR] THOSE WHO ENTER THE HELLFIRE BUT WILL NOT REMAIN IN IT FOREVER

These people are just bigots. They just raise questions to raise doubts. The same Allah has said that people will be resurrected with soul and body and pleasure and pain will be felt by both.

Allah has said in the Quran that it is the soul that commits sins. Taking Allah's word into cognizance, may I ask you why, after facing trial on the Day of Judgment, Allah would consign the human bodies to the fire of hell, instead of their souls?

Secondly, Allah has clearly stated in the Quran that the sinners would dwell in hell forever. Now, you are telling us that that won't be the case; many sinners would get relief after passing some time in hell. You have used Hadiths in support of your assertion.

My question to you is: Are Hadiths more credible than the word of Allah?

Regards,

Mohammad Asghar

THOSE WHO ENTER THE HELLFIRE BUT WILL NOT REMAIN IN IT FOREVER

Dr. 'Umar Sulaymaan al-Ashqar'

Who are They?

Those who will enter the Hellfire and then come out of it are the people of tawheed. They are the ones who do not associate anything with Allaah. However, they have accumulated many sins. Their evil deeds have exceeded the limit and their good deeds have become light on the scale. These individuals will enter the Hellfire because of their sins. Afterwards, they will come out of it due to the intercession of the interceders. By the mercy of Allaah, groups of people who never produced any good deeds will be extracted from the Hellfire.

Sins Punishable in the Hellfire:

I will mention here some of the sins, which there is evidence for, informing us that those who commit them will be punished by means of the Hellfire

SPLITTING UP INTO GROUPS THAT OPPOSE THE SUNNAH

Aboo Sufyaan narrated: "The Messenger of Allaah stood among us one day and said; Indeed those before you from the People of the Book divided into seventy-two groups. And this gropus ( Muslims) will divide into seventy-three. Seventy-two groups will be in the hellfire and one of them will be in Paradise. And it is the Jamaa'ah."

This is an authentic hadeeth. Al-Haakim, after checking its chains of narration, said about it. "These chains present evidence in favor of the authenticity of the hadeeth. "lmaam ath-Thahabee agreed with this. Shaykh al-Islaarm Ibn Taymiyah said. "It is a well known authentic hadeeth."

It has also been authenticated by ash-Shaatibee in his book al-Itisaam. Shaykh Muhammad Naasiruddeen al-Albaanee gathered its routes of narration, discussed their chains, and clarified that it is an authentic hadeeth, there being not doubt concerning it's authenticity.

However, Sideeq Hasan Khaan is of the opinion that the addition to the hadeeth <All of them are in the Hellfire except one>

And similar additions such as <Seventy-two are in the hellfire>

are all weak additions to the hadeeth. He cites this claim of weakness from his teacher lmaarn ash-Shawkaanee and before him, Aboo al-Wazeer, and before him, Ibn Hazm. And he has approved of the saying, "These additions are from the schemes of the apostates. For indeed, in them are a means for turning away from Islaam and a reluctance from entering into its fold."

Shaykh al-Albaanee has refuted those who claim that such additions are weak from two angles:

1. The rules of hadeeth criticism regarding the additions for the hadeeth prove its authenticity, for there is no basis in the statement of the one who has claimed that it is weak.

2.That those who have graded it authentic are greater in number and knowledge than Ibn Hazm. This is especially the case, since he is known among the people of knowledge for his severity in such criticism. We should not make use of it (his criticism) when it goes solely among lack of opposition. So how can we use it when it is oppossed ( by more knowledgable scholars)?

As for Aboo al-Wazeer, he rejected the additions to the hadeeth based upon their meaning, not due to the chain. Sideeq Hasan Khaan has spoken of this in his book al- Ibaarah, clarifying that the one who goes by this addition is stating that those who enter Paradise from the ummah are few. Meanwhile, the authentic an confirmed texts show that those entering Para- dise from the ummah will be many, almost reaching half of the inhabitants of Paradise.

This may be refuted in a number of ways:

1. The meaning of the division of this ummah into seventy-three sects is not that thee majority of this ummah will be in the Hellfire. This is because the majority of the ummah consists of common folk who do not enter into the fold of these sects. And those who divide into sects and remain in opposition to the Sunnah are fewer in discription than those who avoid that in its totality.

2. Everyone who opposes the carriers of the Sunnah in an issue among the many issues of religion does not fall into the category of being a sect in opposition to the Sunnah. Rather, the correct understanding is that they set up principles by which they become groups divided among themselves, abandoning much of the texts if the Quraan and Sunnah due to it. This is the case with the Khawaarij, the Mu'tazilah and the Raafidah.

As for those who establish the Quraan and Sunnah and do not abandon these two, but differ in an issue from the many issues in Islaam, they do not fall into any of the sects.

3 . The additions in the narrations are evidence that the divided sects will be in the Hellfire. However, this does not imply absolutely that they will reside in the Hellfire forever. What is well known is that some of the People of these sects are disbelievers who will :main eternally in the Hellfire, such as the hid- en extremists. They are the ones who make apparent their eemaan, yet hide their disbelief, such as the Ismaa'lees, the Drooz, the Naseereeyah and others.

Among the sects are those who oppose Al-us- Sunnah in major important issues. However, heir differences are not based upon disbelief. .,here is not a definite promise for these people hat they will enter Paradise. However they fall under the Will of Allaah. If He wills, He will forgive them, and if He wills, He will punish hem. Perhaps they may have a great number of righteous deeds that will save them from the Fire. They will also be saved from the Fire by the intercession of the interceders. And they will enter he Hellfire and abide therein as long as Allaah wills for them to do so. Then they will be extracted from there, due to the intercession of the interceders and by the mercy of the Most Merciful.

THOSE WHO HOLD BACK FROM HIJRAH (MIGRATION)

It is not permissible for the Muslim to re- side in the lands of the disbelievers when there are Muslim lands that exist. This is especially so if his residence in the lands of disbelief will involve him in fitnah [trouble for his religion]. Allaah does not accept the excuse of those refrain from making Hijrah (migration). Thus. Allaah informs us that the angels will reproach this group of people at the time of death and they will not accept their excuses when they plead to them saying that they were oppressed in the land.

Allaah says (which means): Verily as for those who the angels take in death while they are wronging themselves, they say to them: "in what state were you?" They reply: "We were weak and oppressed in the land." They (angels) say: "Was not Allaah's Earth spacious enough for you to migrate?" Such men will find their abode in Hell-what an evil destination! Except the weak among men, women and children who cannot devise a plan nor are they able to make their way. Surat An-Nisaa (4:97-98)

Allah does not accept excuses from such individuals, except for those who are weak and can not find the method to leave, and they are not able to make away by which they will be directed to the land of Islaam. [Note from the editors: this is a general rule that has been under-explained here. One is encouraged to see what the great wise scholar Ibn'Uthaymeen explained about related guidelines in the book "Explanation of the Three Fundamental Principles of Islaam" (al-Hidaayah Publishing)]

INJUSTICE IN PASSING JUDGEMENT

Allaah has revealed His Sharee'ah (Divine Law) for passing judgement between mankind with equity. And He has commanded His servants with justice and fairness.

Allaah says (which means): Verily Allah enjoins al-adl (justice) and al-ihsaan (beneficence). Surat An-Nahl (16:90)

Thus He has made it obligatory upon the rulers and the judges that they rule with justice and avoid injustice.

Allaah says (which means): Allaah commands that you should render back the trusts to those who they are due, and that when you judge between men, you judge with justice. How excellent is the teaching that He (Allaah) gives you! Truly, Allaah is the Hearer of all, the Seer of all. Surat An-Nisaa (4:58)

Allaah threatens those who do not judge in truth with the Hellfire. Buraidah Bin Haseeb has narrated that the Messenger of Allaah said: ,The judges are of three types: One in Paradise and two in the Hellfire. As for the one in Paradise, he is the one who knows the truth and judges by it. For the one who knows the truth and does not do justice in his ruling, then he is in the Fire. And as for the one who passes judgement between people out of ignorance, then he also is in the Fire.

LYING UPON THE MESSENGER OF ALLAAH

Ibn al-Atheer has compiled a chapter in his book Jaami'al-Usool in which he lists many ahaadeeth which warn against lying upon the Messenger of Allaah. Among them, is that which has been recorded by lmaams at-Bukhaaree. Muslim and at-Tirmithee. on the authority of 'Alee who said that the Messenger of Allaah said.,>Do not lie upon me. For indeed, the one who lies upon me will be tormented by the Hellfire.>

In another hadeeth the Prophet said, >Whoever attributes a statement to me of which I did not say, then let him find his seat in the Hellfire.>

Also, the Messenger of Allaah said, >Whoever lies upon me intentionally, then let him find his seat in the Hellfire.>

Among the other hadeeths is the one where Allaah's Messenger said, Indeed a lie upon me is not like a lie upon anyone else. So whoever lies upon me intentionally then let him find his seat in the then let him find his seat in the hellfire.

PRIDE

Among the major sins is pride. Aboo Hurayrah narrated that the Messenger of Allaah said, Allaah said: "Pride is my cloak and greatness is my lower garment. Whoever disputes with me regarding any of these will be cast into the Fire. " And he also said: "The one who has a speck of pride in his heart will not enter Paradise." So a man said to him: "Indeed a man likes to have nice clothes and nice sandals." He said: "Allaah is beautiful and He loves beauty. Pride is disregarding the truth and belittling the people. "

KILLING AN INDIVIDUAL WITHOUT DUE RIGHT

Allaah says (which means): And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell to abide therein, and the wrath and the curse of Allaah are upon him, and the great punishment is prepared for him. " The killing of an individual Muslim is not permissible in Islaam except for one of three cases, as has been stated in the following hadeeth, in which the Messenger of Allaah said, (The blood of an individual who testifies that there is nothing worthy of worship besides Allaah and that I am the Messenger of Allaah, is not lawful, except for one of three cases. They are: A life for a life, a married person who commits adultery, and the one who abandons his religion and breaks away from the Jamaa'ah. The Prophet also said, "The believer will remain within the margins of his religion, as long as he does not spill blood illegally." Ibn 'Umar said: "Of those dilemmas which there is no way out for the one who fails, is the shedding of blood without a due reason." The Messenger has warned the Mus- lims from killing one another. And he has in- formed us that the killer and the one killed are both in the Fire. Aboo Bakrah (4) reported that the Messenger of Allaah said, (When two Muslims face each other with their swords, then the killer and the one killed UNJUSTLY are (both) in the Fire. I said, "I understand the killer, but what of the one who is killed?" He said, (Indeed, he was intent upon killing his companion., Due to this, the righteous servant refrains from killing his brother, fearing that he might be of the dwellers of the Fire. And so the killer will attain his sin and the sin of the one he is killing. Allaah says (which means): ((And recite to them (the Jews) the story of the two sons of Aadam in truth; when each offered a sacrifice to Allaah. It was accepted from one but not from the other. The latter said to the former; "I will surely kill you." The former said: "Allaah accepts only from those who give Him due reverence. If you stretch your hand against me to kill me, I shall never stretch my hand against you to kill you: for I fear Allaah the Lord of the worlds. I intend to let you draw my sin on yourself as well as yours, then you will be one of the dwellers of the Fire. And that is the recompense of the wrong doers."

CONSUMING (RIBAA) INTEREST OR USURY

Among the sins that destroy the individual performing it. is usury. Concerning those who take interest after knowledge has reached them of its prohibition, Allaah says (which means), But whoever returns to ribaa, such are the dwellers of the Fire-they will abide therein. And He says. (which means): -0 you who believe! Do not consume ribaa, doubled and multiplied, but fear Allaah that you may be successful. And fear the Fire which is prepared for the disbelievers. The Prophet has counted ribaa as one of the seven sins that destroy the one performing it. It is recorded in the Two Saheeh collection that the Messenger of Allaah said. Avoid the seven destructive sins. They said: "And what are they, 0 Messenger of Allaah?" So he said,(To associate partners with Allaah (shirk), magic, killing an individual which Allaah has forbidden except with due right, consuming interest, taking the wealth of the orphan, running away from the battlefield, and slandering chaste believing women.

TAKING THE WEALTH OF THE PEOPLE UNJUSTLY

Among the greatest forms of oppression bringing a guarantee of the Hellfire is the consumption of people's wealth unjustly. This is as Allaah says (which means): O you who believe! Do not consume property among yourselves unjustly except it be a trade among you by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves (nor kill one another). Surely, Allaah is Most Merciful to you. And whoever commits that through aggression and injustice, We shall cast him into the Fire, and that is easy for Allaah. One who unjustly consumes the wealth of people also takes the wealth of the orphan unjustly. Allaah has specifically mentioned their wealth, due to their frailty, the ease at which their wealth can be consumed, and the detestableness of such a crime. ((Those who unjustly eat up the property of orphans, they eat only fire into their bellies, and they will be burnt in the Blazing Fire!

THE PICTURE-MAKERS

The people who will receive the worst on the Day of Judgement are the picture-makers. [Editor's note: There are a number of crimes in addition to this one, for which the Prophet mentioned they would warrant the worst punishment.] They are the ones who compete with Allaah's ability to create. Ibn Mas'ood reported that he heard the Messenger of Allaah say, <The people with the worst punishment according to Allaah are the picture-makers . lbn 'Abbaas said that he heard the Prophet say:,Every picture-maker is in the Hellfire. A soul will be placed for him into every picture that he fabricated, and Allaah will punish him (by it) in the Hellfire. 'Aa'ishah reported that the Messen- ger of Allaah said concerning a cushion that had pictures on it, Indeed the makers of these pictures will be tormented on the Day of Judgement. It will be said to them: Bring life to that which you have created.," He (4) also said, The people who will receive the worst torment are those who try to imitate the creation of Allaah. Aboo Hurayrah reported that he heard the Messenger of Allaah say, (Allaah says: And who is worse than he who tries to create the likes of My creation. Then let them create a seed, or let them create a kernel or grain.

THOSE WHO RELY ON EVIL DOERS ( DHALIMOON )

From among the means that cause the entrance into the Hellfire, is the reliance on evildoers, the enemies of Allaah, and befriending them. Allaah says (which means): And incline not towards those who do wrong, lest the Fire should touch you and you have no protectors other than Allaah, nor will you then be helped.

THE WOMEN WHO WILL BE CLOTHED YET NAKED AND THE ONES WHO WILL WHIP THE BACKS OF PEOPLE

Among the types of people that will enter the Hellfire, are the evil women who display their beauty indecently. They put the servants of Allaah to trial and do not themselves abide in the obedience of Allaah. Aboo Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet said, (There are two types of people from the dwellers of the Fire that I have never seen before. A people who have whips like the tails of cows by which they will be beating the people. And women who will be clothed yet naked, swaggering and bent over, their heads will be like the slanted humps of the bukht camel. They will not enter Paradise, nor will they sense its odor, even though its odor can be sensed from such and such distance., 32 Concerning those with whips like the tails of cows al-Qurtubee said: "The description of the ones with whips is visible among us even now, in Morocco." Commenting on the words of al-Qurtubee, Sideeq Hasan Khaan said:,"Rather, they are present in every time at every place, increasing day by day among the leaders and the notables. Thus, we seek refuge from all that Allaah hates." I say, we can still see this type of people in many of the lands, whipping the backs of people. May they and their likes perish! And the women who appear naked in spite of their being clothed are many in our time. Perhaps their evil has not grown so widespread before as it has these days. They are just as the Messenger of Allaah has described them, clothed yet naked, bent-over and swaggering, and upon their heads is the hump of the bukht camel.

THOSE WHO TORTURE ANIMALS

The Messenger of Allaah said: The Hellfire was presented to me and I saw in it a woman from the Tribe of Israa'eel who was being punished for a cat she had. She tied it up and did not feed it, nor did let it go so that it may eat the rodents of the earth, until it died of starvation. If this is the condition of the one who tortures a cat, then how is it for the one who is tested by torturing the servants of Allaah? And how much more is it, if the torture is for the righteous ones among them because of their eemaan and their Islaam?

THE LACK OF SINCERITY IN SEEKING KNOWLEDGE

Al-Haafiz al-Munthiree cited many hadeeths which warn against seeking knowledge for other than Allaah's sake. I have chosen only some of them. The Messenger of Allaah said: Whoever acquires knowledge, by which the Face of Allaah is sought, and he does not learn it except to attain honor by it in this world, he will not perceive the odor of Paradise on the Day of Judgement. Jaabir reported that the Prophet said: Do not acquire knowledge in order to compete with the scholars, nor to argue with the ignorant, nor to gain mastery over the gatherings. So whoever does that, then: The Fire, the Fire! ibn - Abbaas reported that the Messenger of Allaah said: Whoever acquires a knowledge for other than Allaah's sake, or desiring other than that, then let him find his seat in the Hellfire. "

THOSE WHO DRINK FROM GOLD AND SILVER VESSELS

Umm Salamah narrated that the Messenger of Allaah said: ,One who drinks from a gold or silver vessel is only gulping the fire of Jahannam into his stomach. In another similar narration, he said: The one who eats and drinks from a gold and silver vessel, is only... Huthayfah reported that he heard the Messenger of Allaah say, Do not wear silk garments nor silk brocade. And do not drink from gold and silver vessels, nor eat from such bowls. For indeed, they are for them (disbelievers) in this world, and they are for you in the next.

THE ONE WHO CUTS DOWN THE LOTE TREE WHICH SHADES THE PEOPLE

The Messenger of Allaah said:Whoever cuts down a lote-tree, Allaah will pour Fire on his head. Aa'ishah reported that the Messenger of Allaah said: Indeed, the ones who cut down the Lote-tree a molten Fire will be poured on their heads.

THE RECOMPENSE OF SUICIDE

It has been confirmed in the Two Saheehs that the Messenger of Allaah said, ,Whoever kills himself with a weapon, then that weapon will be in his hand, stabbing him in the stomach in the Hellfire eternally. And whoever kills himself with poison, then the poison will be in his hand, he will be sipping it in the Hellfire eternally. And whoever throws himself from a mountain and kills himself, then he will be falling down in the Hellfire eternally. Aboo Hurayrah said that he heard the Messenger of Allaah say, (The one who strangles himself will be strangling himself in the Hellfire And the one who stabs himself will be stabbing himself in the Hellfire.

[ALOCHONA] The Talented Dr. Richard Benkin

The Talented Dr. Richard Benkin

It turns out that Dr. Richard Benkin, the "reporter" who is the source of stories about Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury and Mr. Choudhury's supporter, is registered as a foreign lobbyist. However, if I asked you to guess which government he represented, you would probably be way off the mark.

On September 6, 2005 Dr. Richard Benkin registered as a foreign agent with the United States Department of Justice, under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), for the Government of Bangladesh. [Click here to see the registration document.] Given the kind of articles Dr. Benkin writes about Bangladesh, this revelation is rather shocking.

Dr. Benkin was hired to prepare and disseminate informational materials via radio or TV broadcasts, magazines or newspaper articles, letters or telegrams, press releases and the internet. He was hired to disseminate this information to public officials, civic groups or associations, legislators, newspapers and editors. According to the document filed with the US government, Dr. Benkin had already received $5000 from the Government of Bangladesh as payment for his services. He was to receive $5000 per month based on an oral agreement between Dr. Benkin and the Government of Bangladesh. According to the filing:

The Registrant agreed to provide Public Relations services to the Foreign Principal at a cost of $5000.00 per month, to be paid to the Registrant at the beginning of each month for services that month. There is no formal duration, but it is expected to last at least twelve months.

A month after Dr. Benkin filed his paperwork, the respected lobbying firms Ketchum Washington and The Washington Group also registered as foreign agents for the Government of Bangladesh to do public relations. [Click here to see Ketchum's registration and click here to see The Washington Group's registration.]

There is one significant difference between Dr. Benkin's lobbying and those of Ketchum and The Washington Group. While Ketchum and The Washington Group indicated in their filing that they would deal with the Bangladeshi Embassy in Washington via the ambassador, Shamsher M. Chowdhury, the filing by Dr. Benkin indicated that he would deal with Lutfuzzaman Babar, State Minister for Home Affairs in Bangladesh. The difference is significant.

As an aside, the reader will note that in the first email Rabbi Sue Levy sent me regarding Mr. Choudhury, she accused the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington of trying to discredit Mr. Choudhury.

It does seem unusual that Dr. Benkin would ink his deal with a Bangladeshi state minister involved with domestic law and order, rather than with the official representative of Bangladesh, that is the ambassador and the Embassy. Why the Bangladesh Embassy was sidestepped in a foreign lobbying effort is certainly food for thought. Further Mr. Babar is featured and cited in a large number of Dr. Benkin's "reports" about Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury - yet, Dr. Benkin never mentions that he is a paid consultant working for Mr. Babar. Mr. Babar was also featured in a glowing article dated June 15, 2006 entitled "Babar & His Magic Stick" in the Asian Tribune, Dr. Benkin's mouthpiece of choice. The article was written by a certain Christopher Giddings whose prose is decidedly Bangladeshi in tone, rather than one of a native english speaker.

Those familiar with Bangladesh will note that Mr. Babar is a young politician who gained a reputation for ruthlessness by creating the Rapid Action Battalian (RAB) in March 2004, a paramilitary force responsible for countless extra-judicial killings in Bangladesh. Those unfamiliar with RAB under Mr. Babar can get a sense of their modus operandi by reading the publication "Judge, Jury and Executioner" by Human Rights Watch.

The current interim government in Bangladesh is likely tightening the noose on Mr. Babar, now the former state minister, on alleged corruption charges. So far, anti-corruption forces have raided his home, and have arrested his personal secretary and his cousin on corruption charges.

I can see why Mr. Babar might want a personal PR man to defend his brand of human rights abuses - a lot of people have famously died in the "crossfire" as RAB hunted extremists and common criminals alike. However, Mr. Babar might have been running his own little fiefdom without official government sanction. It makes little sense that at the same time the Government of Bangladesh, through legitimate diplomatic channels, was enlisting the likes of Ketchum and The Washington Group, that a state minister in Bangladesh would hire a foreign lobbyist on his own. It also seems odd that he is repeatedly cited by Dr. Benkin in his "reports" that masquerade as news stories without mentioning that Dr. Benkin is on Mr. Babar's payroll. I am sure the anti-corruption authorities in Bangladesh will have a few questions.

There is a lot of reporting to be done here. I leave it to the reader and fellow Bangladeshi bloggers to fill in the blanks to paint the complete picture. Something smells, and it smells bad.

[ALOCHONA] New leadership in Dhaka

New leadership in Dhaka

By Christopher Giddings

For past several years, one of the top topics of Dhaka̢۪s political arena is new generation leadership, which should ultimately take over the responsibilities of policy making. Keeping this target at the front, both the major political parties, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Awami League (AL) are searching for young leaders inside. AL leader Sheikh Hasina already expressed willingness of bringing her only son Sajib Wajed Joy in the party politics.

Political analyst feels that, Ms. Hasina will possibly try to ensure the future presidency of Bangaldesh Awami League, very much within her home. Although there had been another potential candidate, her younger sister, Sheikh Rehana for the post of future president of the party, Hasina did not endorse this idea, and already gave signals to Rehana for not becoming ambitious for any political post in the party.

Sheikh Rehana is also possibly quite sure about the fact that Sajib Wajed Joy is the only possible candidate to become AL̢۪s future president, although by now, this young man has greatly failed to give any appreciable performance to put any positive impact on the leaders, especially the seniors of Bangladesh Awami League. Moreover, Joy̢۪s wife is a foreign lady and a non-Muslim, which will certainly stand as an obstacle for him to become Bangladesh̢۪s future Prime Minister, as such marriages are not seen as normal by the majority of Bangladeshi societies.

But, here, chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Khaleda Zia showed an effective stand. He brought her elder son, Tareq Rahman in politics and made him the senior joint secretary general of the party. But, much ahead of becoming the JSG of BNP, Tareq Rahman started participating in the politics of BNP and helped greatly in the landslide victory of the party in 2001. Many believe that, Tareq was the silent figure behind such victory, who not only helped his mother in putting right candidates in the rights position, by providing her with electoral statistics, but also, very successfully made series of television documentaries projecting the atrocities of Awami League government.

These documentaries were certainly extremely helpful for BNP in winning people̢۪s mandate. But, after he entered in direct politics by becoming the JSG of the party, Mr. Rahman for the first time in Bangladesh history, took the steps of mobilizing the grass root level workers of his party by traveling to each of the part of Bangladesh. He listened to the party workers and leaders and subsequently submitted reports to the party chairperson, which is now gradually turning into blessings for the party.

Although Awami League leadership also tried to follow the same track of Tareq Rahman, it was a grand flop for them to run the project with Joy at the fore front. Because, neutral analysts feel that, as a human being, Tareq is soft spoken but extremely intelligent and committed like his late father President Ziaur Rahman and mother Khaleda Zia.

Moreover, Tareq has an admirable personality and the excellent quality to attract people towards his vision. He is already telling the people to work in unison in building a prosperous Bangladesh, and initially to fight poverty and illiteracy. His next mission is to create substantial job opportunities for the people of Bangladesh, which currently suffers from unemployment problem. Just recently, he told repeatedly of fighting corruption, once BNP comes in power again during the next general election in 2007.

He is also talking of good governance as well continuing the ongoing battle to combat terrorism and Islamist radicalism in Bangladesh.

This young man has already become a known name in Bangladesh̢۪s rural and urban population, and even the people of the country are greatly appreciative of his intelligence, zeal and bold leadership quality. Tareq Rahman greatly favors discipline within the party, which has already helped BNP is cleansing internal feud amongst the leaders, and it is rather expected by many that, this young man can possibly give something great to the entire nation in the days to come. He is not a leader now, just because he is the son of Ziaur Rahman or Khaleda Zia, but is well acclaimed for his own leadership qualities. In personal life, he is a soft spoken person and married to Dr. Jobaida Rahman, a physician and daughter of former Naval Chief of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh definitely needs good leadership for its future politics and administration, and there is no doubt, Tareq Rahman has already passed the testimonies of riding into the higher level of Bangladesh̢۪s politics. Some people see a new Mahathir Mohammad in Tareq. Let us all hope, this young man can really transform Bangladesh into a developed nation with immense possibilities.

[ALOCHONA] Stepping back from Grameen, Yunus and Bangladesh WikiLeaks

Stepping back from Grameen, Yunus and Bangladesh WikiLeaks

aladin

The basic tenets underlying good journalism can never be taken for granted, nor can they be reiterated too often.

Last year bdnews24.com published lead stories relating to Professor Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank's treasury operations as well as United States government documents on Bangladesh which were released by Wikileaks. The material we sourced was not strictly 'new' or recent but we believed shed light on important public, civil processes. These early revelations, during December 2010, touched nerves, ignited public controversy and gained their own momentum, triggering  further coverage and analysis elsewhere in the Bangladeshi media as well as abroad. bdnews24.com's exclusive Wikileaks revelations were followed a few days later by the UK's Guardian newspaper releasing a cache of further Wikileaks documents on Bangladesh.

bdnews24.com took a strong editorial line in its treatment of the Grameen/Yunus and Wikileaks stories, which some have found close to the bone. bdnews24.com, however, continues to harbour a very wide range of opinions within its own walls and across its reporting team. It represents a lively discourse that will continue to actively transform and shape future coverage — about whose future direction there can therefore be no presumption. Founded on the premise of impartiality, bdnews24.com's readership expects it to resist dogma and partisanship. So even as it persists with its agenda-setting investigations it will iteratively review its own stances.

This is as good a moment as any to be reminded of the importance of finding time and space to stand back (literally or metaphorically) in the midst of complexity and flux. Doing so allows an opportunity for perspective and for more constructive alternatives to emerge. To remain 'caught up' constrains outcomes and limits options for the different parties involved; it can also agonisingly draw out the process of moving towards resolution. Stepping back, though, is not plain sailing; in fact, the more contentious the times the less easy it becomes to arrange that step. Yet the greater the trials the more critical it becomes to reflect, adapt and then move forward again.

In seeking momentary distance and withdrawal from the Grameen/Wikileaks melee, it might be helpful to invoke a Martian perspective. I should briefly mention that this particular Martian has acute qualities of discernment, mapping as s/he does only that which is absent, invisible, outside of the frame. We should speculate then about the picture of Bangladesh that emerges from recent news coverage — in terms of what is missing. The recent Grameen/Yunus and Bangladesh Wikileaks narratives are essentially dystopian — with their litanies of human and institutional shortcomings. What is often absent, due to journalistic convention more than anything else, is validation of the less newsworthy elements of the story — namely operations in the light of day with long histories of rectitude. Whereas for the most part the record of these parties in the public life of Bangladesh is marked by a prosaic commitment to and record of building and shoring up civil processes and rights.

In standing yet further back from the locale of these news reports we begin to note a physical landscape that is bountiful against the odds. We perceive large numbers of inhabitants living side by side according to the rhythms of the seasons rather than the alarums of the anxious. We discover myriad inventors, social innovators, economic and engineering feats not seeking acknowledgement or needing it. Standing back, we also become reminded of how much there is to celebrate, enjoy and feel optimistic and reassured by in terms of the vast majority of individuals, institutions and formal and unmediated processes that make up Bangladesh. These are all elements that must sometimes appear absent from or not particularly discernible in the palette that the media tend to dab their quill pens in. Returning to our enquiring Martian — s/he may feel s/he is missing out on a properly rounded account of place or event were s/he to rely solely on what the media choose to reveal. At bdnews24.com we accept to the core the responsibility of keeping editorial outputs under constant review and remain deeply committed to a balanced approach to populating our pages.

So take a step back at those times you feel bdnews24.com is stumbling or coming up short. You will see us there too — taking a moment to refresh our maps and retune our senses. We will always return to the heart of the fray however. It is a privilege we will never relinquish.

Re: [ALOCHONA] Re: [Dahuk]: Felani's Dead Body or Bangladesh's Dead Body !!!!!!!!

How is it that the girl's outfits have changed when they are carrying her away?  Is that a different girl?  But the caption says it is Felani.
I also don't get the fact that if the girl and her father lived in India, why would they sneak into Bangladesh over the barb wires?  And why would Indian border patrol would kill their own people?  If they are Indians, why do the the newspapers trying to make them Bangladeshis?  These border killings are horrible crimes, but this particular story seems to have huge gaps in it.

Blood suckers animals can't spare a poor girl. Hasina has given them the whole country to cruise around in the name of corridor and in return, they are running havoc in the border.
Shame Indian bootlicker Hasina.

BSF tortures 2 Bangladeshis

Two Bangladeshi cattle traders, who were tortured and left unconscious by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in border areas of the district's sadar upazila, are fighting for life at Satkhira Sadar Hospital.

Of the two, Rafiqul Islam, 35, is from Sultanpur of Satkhira town and Fazlur Rahman, 45, from Mahmudur village of sadar upazila.

how many times we have seen similar news in 2010?
So what Bangladesh Govt. has done.... so far.... about it?
Have we asked our rulers, forcefully enough, for the accountability?

Best wishes.

Khoda hafez.

[mukto-mona] Emergency Call to support the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain

Emergency Call
The Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain (CEMB) needs your support!

An ex-Muslim from Birmingham writes:
“I've discarded Islam and I want to be with others like me in the effort to break the taboo associated with leaving Islam. This organisation is significant because it represents one of the most difficult things I must deal with in my life, and is the only effort in the UK to tackle the hardships of those in much worse situations than I.”

Another ex-Muslim woman from the UK writes:
“After 20 years of Islam, I finally gave up the prison for my freedom... It has been a long and painful journey, with many more obstacles ahead, but I am confident that things can only get better for the long-term. Well done CEMB for creating this unified voice for ex-Muslims!”

And here’s one from Pakistan:
“I was born and raised in a Muslim family and later studied medicine, two polarizing aspects, which led me to the conclusion that there is no god...  Living in a place like Pakistan, where there’s zero tolerance for freedom of thought and choice, I find this Council a big step forward in the face of religious conservatism, a place where people like myself can find acceptance. I reject the religious hypocrisy that surrounds me and thank you all for accepting a free mind.”

Since its establishment in 2007, the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain (CEMB) has become the refuge for people to come to if they have left Islam and religion. It is a hugely important sanctuary for women and men who face threats, intimidation and/or isolation for taking this step.

And, since our inception, we’ve always been here to help – whether it is finding a safe house and giving support or defending the right to asylum for ‘apostates’ fleeing Sharia law.

In the past year, we’ve helped hundreds of people, held an important conference on Apostasy and Sharia Law, had speaking engagements across the country and developed a number of crucial resources including Guidelines for Ex-Muslims and Frontline practitioners and an information document on Apostasy and Asylum in the UK.

But all this work needs money and the CEMB is in the worst financial situation since its inception. It is incredibly hard to get support for our work from funders, even some who might be perceived as allies. The media and government, too, continue to avoid real discussion on the issues at hand. That’s why we have to depend on you for your help in getting the word out, supporting ex-Muslims and challenging Islamism and Sharia law, which punishes ‘apostates’ with the death penalty.

We hope you can take time out to send us a donation. Any amount, whatever you can give, will truly help. We are looking for people to give just £3 a month (more, if possible), so that we can begin to have an income that we can rely on.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Warmest wishes

Maryam
