Washington DC - November 16, 2007:  The Bangladeshi-American Foundation, Inc. (BAFI) expresses deep sorrow at the loss of life and properties from the ferocious Cyclone Sidr that swept across the low-lying watery edges of southern Bangladesh late Thursday, downing trees, crashing mobile telephone towers and sweeping away thousands of homes. Initial estimate of the death toll is over 280, but is expected to rise several folds.

 

BAFI appeals for support to help those who need our help most at this tragic time in their life. As in the past, we will work through well-known NGOs in Bangladesh to provide relief and medium term help including support for construction of more cyclone shelters in the low-lying areas of Bangladesh.
