It is strange as well!
I have also observed the same thing in New Zealand and in some other country.
Some of the NZ citizen (of Bangladesh origin) in NZ support leftist parties (like New Zealand Progressive Party, New Zealand Labour Party (present ruling party, for last 3 terms) but in political context of Bangladesh, unfortunately they are activist & supporter of Jamat, BNP and other reactionary party.

I really commend this CTG for their unfoldings of previous BNP-Jamaat
coalition govt's numerous illegal and grossly unjust acts. This is
one of them. But sadly, many of my friends and relatives in USA, who
are also highly qualified and educated, blindly supported all these
activities. Even though they vote for the left leaning liberal and
moderate politicians abroad, but when it comes to politics of
Bangladesh they support the extreme right-wing views. They really
hate the popularity of Narendra Modi and his relection victory right
after the gruesome Gujarat riot in 2002, but they openly or tacitly
supported Nijami and Mujahid as Ministers in Bangladesh. Mini Hitler
Modi did not sanction killings or rapes of other Hindus, but these two
from Bangladesh are worse than Modi; they sanctioned murders and rapes
against their own people and co-religionists. This simple fact many of
us cannot comprehend. And this is how many of us trying to become good
Muslims.
