Re: [ALOCHONA] Re: Dr Yunus & Grameen Bank

Dr. Mr. Chowdhury:
You offered some very biased and insensitive comments about Dr. Yunus and his organization.  Perhaps you should not forget that Dr. Yunus put Bangladesh in a world map with his distinguished Nobel Prize at a time when Bangladesh ranked one of the worst nations in the world in corruption.  Dr. Yunus' idea is now being experimented and implemented in many parts of the world.
We ought to offer our respect for every visionaries like Mr. Hossain and Dr. Yunus who are the proud figures of Bangladesh, responsible for economic growth, national GDP, employment, and prosperity.  You did mention that they both are "fruit."  You may discard one fruit because you may not like it but all fruits provide nutrition to nurture our growth.

Perhaps, you should not forget that!
You labeled Dr. Yunus and his Grameen Bank "vampire," "stinking cow dung," "kabuliwala" and so forth.  You even indicated Dr. Yunus and his Grameen Bank as bloodsuckers.
I wonder what your depth of background is in economics, social reform, entrepreneurship, social responsibility, national growth and reform and such.  It seems to me you project as a person of  "a little learning is a dangerous thing."  In Bangla, we say, "olpo biddya voyon-kori."
Please don't make a fool of yourself.  Speak and write like an intellectual and stand beside those who are trying to do something for our country.  If you cannot put up with the efforts of these visionaries, then shut up!

Please do not compare apple and orange though both are fruit. Fazle Hossain Abed is the pioneer of working for rural people not for profit in Bangladesh. His organization BRAC started working among have-nots right on the day one after liberation. BRAC is an organization not for profit on the other hand Dr. Yonus started his so-called social enterprise business decades after BRAC.
Mr. Fazle Hossian Abed a great freedom fighter who along with some of his friend started working among on the breadline people since 1970 when then East Pakistan was struck by historical cyclone of 12th November. During the liberation war, Mr. Abed and his friends worked on the frontline helping the helpless refugees the entire nine months. After the liberation war ended when all freedom fighters returned home Fazle Hossian Abed and his friends did not, they started the real struggle of building a prosperous Bangladesh in light of spirit they attained during long nine months of liberation. Since then his relentless work lifted millions of rural off the cuff people to somewhat humane. The journey that started from Shalla of Sylhet still ongoing many parts of the world. Fazle Hossain Abad's disadvantage is his shyness in front of camera. He does not want him to be portrayed as the savior of poor of the poorest. Fazle Hossain Abed is a real social reformer not a darling poster child of capitalist west unlike Dr. Yunus. I will not say there is no blemish with BRAC or Fazle Hossain Abed, there may be many but comparing the vampire state of Dr. Yunus, his is none.
On the other hand, Dr. Yunus's Grameen Bank sets a pipeline to suck the blood of the poor of the poorest in the name of social enterprise. Dr. Yunus should get an OSCAR award for reenacting the Kabuliwala character from movie to real social life. Grameen's incredibly towering loan interest rate should be note worthy for documentation in Guinness Book of Record.
Dr. Yunus and his involvement with Grameen Phone are on record. He and his so-called social enterprise Grameen are involved with every move of Grameen's illegal VoIP quick moneymaking business. The Grameen is a registered trademark used by Dr. Yunus's Grameen only whether it is Grameen Check or Grameen phone. If you claim the milking cow is yours then you must not disclaim the stinky cow dung of the same cattle as not yours.
Thanks

Professor Mohammed Yunus and Fazle Hassan Abed are visionaries and
leaders of change not only in the context of Bangladesh but from a
global perspective. Only the people who have not objectively
researched enough will utter the ignorant (I am sorry but could not
find a better word to articulate myself) comments about their
contributions. I request these people to read some books (now
available in plenty) on the efforts of Grameen Bank and BRAC in
transforming the rural poverty situations in Bangladesh over the past
thirty years which had a directly positive impact on the overall
socio-economic environment of the entire country. Apart from the
empowerment of the women, eradication of grass roots poverty,
upgarding of rural health and education situation - the increase in
production in rice, vegetables and maize farming, poultry and cattle
farming, pissiculture, textiles and rural handicrafts due to the
involvement and coordiantion of the NGOs like Grameen Bank, BRAC and
others are simply mind boggling. The progress Bangladesh has made
over the past 30 years has lot to do with these individuals and
organizations. The reasons behind the higher interest rate and
service charges are also explained in details in the literature
published on these organizations - the rural poor are provided with
small loans with no securities or collaterals - there is a cost
involved in the process. One needs to have an analytical mind to
understand this ! Best regards, Shafqat

Folks,Please know the fact about Dr. Yunus and GB before jumping to
strong conclusion at. http://www.grameen-
info.org/bank/GBGlance.htmDr. Yunus is NOT an official of Grameen
Phone I found the following truth about Grameen Phone's involvement
with corrupt practice and its relation with Dr Yunus. All the
references are given at the end of this message. The issue is a bit
complex and I am not finding Dr. Yunus has anything to do with the
illegal activities committed by Grameen Phone. Dr. Yunus is
associated with Grameen Telecom - not with Grameen Phone. Actually,
Grameen Phone and Grameen Telecom are separate entity. Grameen Phone
is a for-profit organization while Grameen Telecom is a non-profit
organization and a unit of Grameen Bank. Grameen Phone's majority
share (62%) is owned by Telenor and the rest (38%) is owned by
Grameen Telecom. The important thing is that Dr. Yunus is NOT a part
of Grameen Phone's managemnet. In essence, a tense relation is going
on between Dr. Yunus and the management of Grameen Phone for quite
sometime. Dr. Yunus is fighting to obtain the majority shares of
Grameen Phone for Grameen Telecom per a verbal? contract made in the
past (according to Dr. Yunus). Bottomline, Dr. Yunus has nothing to
with the illegal acivities of the Grameen Phone. I collected most of
the info from the following links.http://www.grameen-
