[mukto-mona] re: ongoing debate surrounding the transcript of Obama's PA speech

Having been away from net for a while, I was unaware that my posting of the transcript of Obama's speech has generated such a acrimonious debate in mm forum. Indeed, I am disheartened to read the transcript of this debate. It was unnecessary (not the debate itself, but the attacks at personal level) and something least expected from some very mature and dear members of the forum.

In my personal opinion, it was inappropriate for Ms Farida Majid (FM) to question the personal honesty and integrity of some members using their opposition to or disliking of Obama as the only basis. For years, I have known these people as decent and honest folks and would be the last person to demean them just because their opinion of Obama is not same (or as good) as mine. Mehul's response to FM's comment, especially going personal level, on the other hand, was also unfriendly and could have been easily avoided. And although ideologically he might differ, I do not agree with all the views that Mehul holds of Subimal.

I would request both sides that- it might help if, in our criticism, we target a particular statement or views held by a person rather than targeting the person himself/herself. Good argument often is lost in a debate which becomes too personal and the readers might end up losing the gist. It's a friendly reminder, and not a preaching.

Regards,
Jahed Ahmed
