Books, not bombs

Words scream between eternal darkness

 

… Silence memory history democracy

humanity freedom love

word right race peace hope

poetry politics perfection

toleration indifference war …

 

Words

such as these

are known

but when challenged

not understood

 

Before the second darkness

I want to understand one word one sentence

not just understand it

but to live it

 

I beg you

master of words

 

give me a year a day an hour a second

without bombs

but with books

books alone

 

free me from slavery

let me understand a single word

a single sentence
