1. Power of the state of the art technology is such that it can do and undo things most efficiently and effectively. The scale of destruction it can cause clouds our views of what fantastic things it is doing to the humans. Invasion, domination, persecution, etc. have always been there and very clearly they still exist. But over the centuries there has been gradual (with some discontinuities and regressions) paradigm shifts in the collective wisdom (or 'ideas') whenever it has come to dealing with humans or 'good' of the human societies.
2. Aristotle supported slavery, aristocracy and superiority (and hence domination) of husband over wife. He preached that slaves had no right to education. They were born to be slaves and were nothing more than living instruments. During the same periods, we see similar things in India too. Only Brahmans had the right in the Vedas although there are instances where low-caste persons got access to these supreme books of knowledge. Jesus never denounced slavery. Even after 600 years Mohamed did not abolish the system although he advised his followers to treat them well and, if possible, even to liberate them. India still has caste system although in the eye of law it is a crime. Now slavery is illegal and adult francise is the norm. I see these developments as social advancements and signs of progress of ideas over time.
