I hate to believe that Mr. Khuswant Sing is an apologist of Islam. He has witnessed in his early life the atrocities carried out in East Punjab. He seems to have less aptitude than Mr. Anwar Shaikh (Mujahideen turned into an apostate). Doesn't he notice the phallic symbols on the top of Gurudwaras shaped by the influence of those on the Mosques? He should read Richard M. Eaton's book on the rise of Islam and the Bengal Frontier published by the Oxford University Press. It's fifth chapter deals with the mass conversion to Islam In it he quotes Suniti Chatterji,
"The conquest of Bengal by these ruthless foreighners was like a terrible hurricane which swept over the country, when a peace loving people were subjected to all imaginable terrors and torments---wholesale massacres, pillages, abduction and enslavement of men and women, destruction of temples, palaces, images and librarys, and forcible conversion. The Muslim Turks, like the Spanish conquistadors.....sought to destroy the culture and religion of the land..."
And also from R. C. Majumdar,
"The Hindu and Muslim communities resembled two strong walled forts, standing side by side, each of which had only one gate,----that of exit in the case of the Hindus, and that for entrance in the casae of the Muslims. Even for the slightest deviation from the rules of touch and purity the Hindus were cast out of society, with no chance of re-entry, and once they entered the fort of Islam, the door of exit .... was forever barred."
I wonder if the greed for petrodollar is playing a part in the formation of Mr. Singh's opinion.
