Appeal to ensure immediate safe return to home and personal security,
stop further harassment, intimidation and arbitrary imprisonment as
well as withdraw the all alleged fabrication of charges, give bail and
permanent release of daughter of the father of the nation, former
Prime Minister, President of Bangladesh Awami League and the recipient
of UNESCO peace award Honorable Sheikh Hasina.

Dear Sir,

We are the citizens of Bangladesh writing to our deep concern about
the alleged fabrication of charges by the police on Hon'ble Sheikh
Hasina the daughter of the father of the Bengali Nation Bangabandhu
Sheik Muzibur Rahman, former Prime Minister, President of Bangladesh
Awami League and the recipient of UNESCO Peace Award Honorable Sheikh
Hasina as well as brought her on trial before so called special
tribunal. Sheikh Hasina was arbitrarily arrested on 16 July 2007 and
falsely implicated with fifteen concocted cases as well as was brought
to trail before so called special tribunal under the emergency power
rule.

We would also like to inform you that during the period of her
imprisonment she was severely psychologically tortured. We want to
draw your attention that Sheikh Hasina is still severely suffering
from her eyesight and hearing problems from the torture in sub- jail
and is need of a proper treatment and intensive care.

We condemn the Bangladesh government for using the state of emergency
to arbitrary arrest, imprisonment and bring to so call trail of former
Prime Minister who is also known as daughter of democracy, with
fabricated charges and vague allegations of corruption and extortion.
These allegations are done for no reason other than to harm her
credibility and humiliate her in front of people of Bangladesh as well
as the world. Further more, the allegations were done to hinder her
mass developing activity those were being done during the period of
her rule in government and also try to eliminate her from the future
politics by disqualifying her for the next national election.

One of the former prime ministers of Bangladesh, got bail out from all
the allegations on just one day by the high court, whereas Sheikh
Hasina was freed on parole but was rejected for getting full bail. We
are also apprehending that if she comes back, she might have to suffer
from further arbitrary imprisonment along with harassment and
intimidation, which violates the rule of law and human rights. So, we
are asking to ensure right justice to the people regardless of their
position and linkage with the higher official.

We therefore strongly appeal you to take prompt action to ensure
immediate safe return to home of Sheikh Hasina. The fabricated charges
against the victim should be withdrawn immediately and give her bail
and permanent release. Also, a prompt and independent investigation
should be conducted regarding her arbitrary imprisonment as well as
strong disciplinary and legal action is taken against the alleged
persons.

Most of all, on the occasion of "Dignity and Justice for the Detainee
Week" declared by the United Nation from 06 to 12 October 2008, we
strongly urge you to take this opportunity to take prompt action to
ensure immediate safe return to home and personal security, stop
further harassment, intimidation and arbitrary imprisonment as well as
withdraw the all alleged fabrication of charges, give bail and
permanent release of our daughter of the father of the nation, former
Prime Minister, President of Bangladesh Awami League and the recipient
of UNESCO peace award Honorable Sheikh Hasina.

Yours Sincerely

Shahanur Islam Saikot
