Re: [ALOCHONA] Re: The change agenda

Ezajur bhai...you make some very good points, and I share your fear over re-criminalization of our legislative and executive.

If anything....anything at all...has to change in BD after the election is someone's willingness to enforce the law of the land. Not divine laws, not arbitrary laws, no village laws. Just uphold the constitution, criminal and civil code, and just enforce the law. I don't care if that person is an AL or BNP supporter. As long as they are going to enforce the law, I will support them.

Having done some work with the Obama campaign in NY, I can tell you this much....one of the fundamental change that Obama has promised, and as a Constitutional Law professor has committed to uphold, is the enforcement of law. During the last eight years, laws have been broken, misinterpreted, abused, and thrown away. We all know the consequences.

We don't need an Obama. We need someone brave enough. We need someone or some people at the top of the government, who will look at the country's judicial system, reach out to the law enforcement, and enforce them. This could imprison a large portion of the politicians, business people, as well as law enforcement officials. But that will only strengthen our democracy. A true democracy can only rely upon the laws of the land. Unfortunately, since our independence, it is the law of the land that have been grossly abused in BD.

Let's keep praying that it would come true.

Subject: [ALOCHONA] Re: The change agenda

And this is precisely why change must come in the large part with a
new set of faces. Whilst Obama's transition team has many Clintonites
it has new people as well. And of course the newest new person is
Obama himself.

In Bangladesh what exactly is the newest thing we will have after the
next election? Well I know criminal dalals who have left Kuwait and
are busy now seeking AL and BNP nomination in the upazilla and
parliamentary elections. Maybe these guys will be new : )

In Bangladesh being a tout or a pimp won't stop your nomination as an
MP in either AL and BNP. Thats one of the great things about our
democracy -

We Are All Equal In The Eyes Of Politcians.

And that brings us neatly to one of the common dirty political
techniques in Bangladesh - making everyone equal, good and bad, and
painting oneself as 'magnanimous' at the same time. If you have been
involved in Bangladeshi organisational culture you will understand
this well.

Its one of the reasons why no more than two dozen really decent
people exist in public life in a nation of 150 milion plus.

Sick.
