[ALOCHONA] The Curse Of Symbolism

Dear Alochoks

In a few days, God willing, we will be better placed to understand
what has happened.

I would just like to say this. With not a drop of disprespect to Mujib and Ziaur Rahman. My numbers may not be accurate but they are meant here to indicate scale.

Some 20 million plus Bangladeshis stand with BNP. Some 5 million plus
Bangladeshis stand with Jamaat. They think Mujib, post Independence was a disaster and that Awami League sells Bangladesh to India.

Some 25 million million plus Bangladeshis stand with Awami League. They think Zia, post Mujib, was a disaster and that BNP and Jamaat sell Bangladesh to Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

This is no way to solve our problems. This is a cursed situation and we are not even close to breaking free from it.

To move forward, and to honour our past, we need to break free. we are slaves to the worst aspects of our history and character.

I might hate Awami League but many wonderful people support Awami
League. Or are those 25 million Bangladeshis all rajakars and dogs? 25
millions?

I might hate BNP but many wonderful people support BNP. Or are those 20 million Bangladeshis all rajakars and dogs? 20 millions?

I might hate Jamaat but many wonderful people support Jamaat. Or are
those 5 million Bangladeshis all rakjakars and dogs? 5 millions?

We can't win by spitting upon millions of Bangladeshis on the
other side.

And, thats why I am against Hasina and Khaleda. Their family names bring out the worst divisions amongst us, preventing us from breaking cruel barriers and drowning all hopes of a new future. They are not the root of all evil, I am not saying that. But they are in the way of reform, reconciliation and redemption.

For they will never be able to bridge the gap that keeps tens of millions of Bangladeshis pitted against each other.

Neither of these ladies are safe. And yet millions of Bangladeshi men cannot see beyond them. We create their doom - and our own.

May Allah forgive us.

Ezajur Rahman
