Re: [ALOCHONA] Bangladesh is a Muslim Country by constitution

Mr. Khokon:

Your posting begins with a fallacy. You use the words "secularists", "anti-Islamists", and "aethists" interchangeably, as if they are all the same things. Needless to say, from the rest of your post it is clear that you understand very little or nothing about what those words mean and have no idea about the  constitutional amendments that was initiated by none other than the self-declared General Zia, and followed through by Ho.Mo. Ershad. Except for declaring Bangladesh as an "Islamic Republic", Zia and Ershad et. al. have done more harm to the constitution than anyone else I can think of. These two morons had illegally altered the secular foundations of our constitution and our society just to appease Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

Saudis didn't recognize Bangladesh until 1975, and refused to accept us as a nation. It was only after Zia's illegal amendments to the constitution, Saudis gave us money and $1,000 for each mosques built. Until then, no one claimed Bangladesh to be a "Muslim country". There is a difference between a "Muslim majority country" and a "Muslim Country", and those who claim Bangladesh to be a "Muslim country", do so because of their communal mindset, political agendas, or out of sheer stupidity.

Cheers,
Cyrus

Subject: [ALOCHONA] Bangladesh is a Muslim Country by constitution

Dear brothers & sisters,

Greetings from the heart of Bangladesh .

Few people including so called Shushils (secularist or anti-Islamist or atheist) repeatedly have been claiming like a non-sense that Bangladesh is a secular country! This is nothing but distortion of the truth and history. We would like to mention that being a Muslim country, we have a long historical record of communal harmony among various group of believers.

Let alone the history, please read the Basic Principles of our constitution which stated as below :

http://www.pmo. gov.bd/constitut ion/part1. htm

PART I

The constitution is started with

"BISMILLAH-AR- RAHIMAN-AR- RAHIM
(In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)]"

"5 [2A. The state religion.. The state religion of the Republic is Islam, but other religions may be practiced in peace and harmony in the Republic.]"

http://www.pmo. gov.bd/constitut ion/part2. htm

"PART II

FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF STATE POLICY

8. Fundamental principles. 9[(1) The principles of absolute trust and faith in the Almighty Allah, nationalism, democracy and socialism meaning economic and social justice, together with the principles derived from them as set out in this Part, shall constitute the fundamental principles of state policy.

(1A). Absolute trust and faith in the Almighty Allah shall be the basis of all actions.]

(2) The principles set out in this Part shall be fundamental to the governance of Bangladesh, shall be applied by the State in the making of laws, shall be a guide to the interpretation of the Constitution and of the other laws of Bangladesh, and shall form the basis of the work of the State and of its citizens, but shall not be judicially enforceable."

Hope the untrue propaganda will be stopped by reading the constitution.

Thanks & Regards,
