Subject: A bountiful day for conspiracy theories

Reading todays columns in Pakistani newspaper produced a rare harvest of conspiracy theories. Here they are without any comment. Most days I'm not so lucky.

Pakistan will probably never catch terrorist leader Baitullah Mehsud alive. Why? For the same reason that we will never really know why alcoholic beverages were found from some of their hideouts. Or why citizens of China and Sri Lanka two close military allies of Pakistan were attacked on Pakistani soil by people claiming to be fighting America.

Similarly we will never know why listed companies like Google and Facebook are speeding up Persian translations of their sites when no profit is involved. (Will their stockholders accept democracy instead of profits?) And why the government did not object when the US and other allied donors tried to create a special fund for Balochistan and NWFP with the condition that it operate outside Pakistan's control.

Pakistanis cannot be allowed to savour joy and success peacefully. Just when the nation was tumultuously enjoying the magical victory of our cricket team, the hard reality of our hostile environment post-9/11 clouded over us once again. For anyone who thought the US was not targeting our nuclear assets, the screaming headlines from the Afghan-based Al Qaeda leadership's interview to Al Jazeera brought the issue to the forefront once again with claims that Al Qaeda would use our nuclear assets against the US if they could. The absurdity of the statement notwithstanding, it can be explained only if seen as part of the campaign to legitimise a US/NATO takeover of our nuclear assets since our security prevents the US from taking them out physically.

We have also seen US weapons mysteriously land in the hands of militants in Pakistan now we have the Al Qaeda leadership freely having access to the foreign media in Afghanistan. What is the US up to with Al Qaeda? Post-9/11 the world has had a memory lapse over the US-Al Qaeda connections especially when Sudan offered Bin Laden to the US but the latter allowed the Al Qaeda leader to move to Afghanistan!

America has many plans to the Muslims and the Muslim World divided and fighting among themselves. One such plan is to keep Sectarianism inflamed, [first] through Shi'ah/Sunni riots and [now] three fighting between the Barelvis and the Deobandis. To enhance the Shi'ah/Sunni conflict America successfully converted Islamic revolution of Imam Khomeini into a Shi'ah revolution. In Pakistan the Shi'ah intellectuals were made to oppose President of Pakistan General Ziaul Haq, and he was made to creat Sipah-i-Sahaba. So many people were killed, and then General Zia himself. Consider America's aims. Now for no reason it is obsessed with the Taliban. They belong to the Deobandi school of thought. Now their sectarian matters are being much talked about for nothing.

America went away [after the defeat of the Russians in Aghanistan]. It might have been better for us perhaps if it had not, for then there would not have occurred the wretched incident of 9/11. But it had to happen anyway. Perhaps it happened only for the Christians and the Muslims. I say that because apparently the target of those terrorist planes were only the people of those two nations. The wretched tower was empty of the Jews on that day, for it was a national holiday for the Israelis and, according to a Canadian news agency, these tower-destroying planes had been rented by the Jewish government. [In fact] the way that news agency had written its report it suggested that the American government itself had a hand in it because it wanted to attack Afghanistan using Osama bin Laden as an excuse.
