[mukto-mona] Re: How to Cure the 'Cancer' of Honour Killings

As far as I know reading the Quran, the honour killing is not Quranic. There are many traditions allow such killings for the sake of preserving their own pure tribal identities or blood lines.

Tarek Fatah's "how to cure the cancer of Honour Killings" only depicts followers of Islamic traditions but what he fails to address is that the Horour killings are occuring among almost all societies. Some communities duck out of the issue by not publishing it to the media or pass it on as a domestic violence type of crime. Only way to address the issue is to educate the both men and women so that they loathe the crime/sin but not the person who commits the sinful act; hence honour killing will gradually be eradicted from the savage people's mind-set.

As for his concern of women praying along with men is a difficult issue to resolve because the way we pray has its own implication. I think women should be taught how to lead Islamic prayers for themselves and Tarek Fatah should encourage women to lead such prayers for them and gradually, I think, Muslim men will accept the new norm pretty soon.

As for the issue of hijab and the polygomy, every religions' people allow such practices among their adherents. There are 18 millions mormon christians who are polygomists in USA and Canada alone.

I find Tarek Fatah's intentions are not intended to educate people rather he is creating his own web of propaganda to create his own seperate identity at the expanse of these social trends.
