Two members of the parliamentary standing committee on the youth and sports ministry left Dhaka on Saturday night for the Caribbean islands 'to inspire' the Bangladesh national cricket team.
Talukdar Towhid Murad Jang and Golam Faruque Khandaker of the ruling Awami League 'wanted to visit the Caribbean islands to congratulate the team on their historic Test series victory' and 'also inspire the players during the one-day series', said Zahid Ahsan Russell, the chairman of the standing committee, when talking to New Age over the telephone on Sunday.
The visit was planned after Bangladesh won the Test series against the West Indies, he added.
The cash-strapped Bangladesh Cricket Board, which is learnt to have dropped the media manager from the touring party as an austerity measure, will bear the expenses of the visit of the two lawmakers at the request of the parliamentary committee, said sources in the board.
Besides expensive business-class air tickets, the parliamentarians will each get $250 as daily allowances, added the sources.
They parliamentarians are expected to return on August
