Moudud Ahmed is indeed a dubious character. In the student life he was a founder of National Students Federation (N. S. F.), then he was in the Awami League, got into jail for some kind of corruption involving the refugee camps. After his father in law got him freed by exerting personal influence on Shaikh. Mujibur Rahman on promise that he would never again do politics, he has served B. N. P. as the law minister and H. M. Ershad as the Vice President. He is hated even in his own party. Whatever he said matters least. Even if Major Zia declared independence, he did so in the name of the Shaikh. During the freedom fight, he was nothing more than an ordinary Major. His role was so negligible that his presence in the surrender of Niazi was deemed unnecessary, though A. K. Khondker and Kader Siddique were present.
