Is It An Appropriate Case For Remand ?

Dhaka dailies have reported that police yesterday morning arrested Mehnaj Rashid Khondker, daughter of Lt Col (retd) Khondker Abdur Rashid, with her one-year-old baby from her Gulshan residence in connection with the bomb attack on Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh, MP.A Dhaka court yesterday placed her on a five-day remand in connection with the bomb attack incident..The innocent people, however, should not be subjected to harassment, political observers feel.
Other reports in the presssay that Mehnaj was only a girl of two or three years at the time of assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.We do not understand how remand was necessary in her case, particularly when she has a baby of one year.We can not comment on court judgment but we question the police whether it was necessary for them to give prayer of remand to the court. .Police could ask her in her residence unless they intend torture.We are dismayed. Remands are taking place violating the guidelines given by the Supreme Court. We ask the government to review this matter and also the remand matter as a whole.
