[ALOCHONA] Number of BSF killings stand at 82 in over 10 months




Four Bangladeshis received bullet injures during the last two days as Indian Border Security Forces opened fire on unarmed Bangladeshis despite its repeated pledges to maintain restraint. BSF promised not to commit atrocities on the border time and again, the latest on November 11 in a sector commanders meeting, but disregarded its own commitment.(TBT Report)

According to UNB, BSF shot and wounded two Bangladeshi cattle traders along Boroachra border at Benapole early Monday. The injured were identified as Saheb Ali, 20, son of Sohrab Sardar and Abu Sayeed, 18, son of Munshi Bepari of Bhober Ber village. Local people said the BSF troops from Kalini camp opened fire on the two cattle traders near the Boroachra border while they were entering into India to buy cattle. At first they were taken to Navaron hospital by their companions and later shifted to Jessore Sadar hospital as their condition deteriorated. A tense situation has been prevailing in the border area following the incident.

Earlier, two Bangladeshi nationals were injured as they were shot at by BSF at Masudpur frontier under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj early Sunday. The injured persons were identified as Tozammel Islam, 25, son of late Abdus Sattar of Namojagannathpur and Harun, 37, son of Afjal Hossain of Dovagi Char Hasanpur both under Shibganj upazila of the district.

BDR said, they were injured as BSF jawans of Paddarchar camp in India fired four rounds of bullet on them at around 5 AM. It was known from Shibganj hospital sources, the injured persons came to the hospital in the morning. Of them, Harun was admitted to the hospital but Tozammel was shifted to Rajshahi Medical college hospital as his condition was stated to be critical.

Meanwhile, the total number of Bangladeshis killed by BSF during the period from January 1 to November 11 rose to 82.

According to statistics projected by 'Odhikar', a non-government human rights watchdog, some 62 Bangladeshi civilians were killed by the Indian BSF from January 1 to July 11 this year. More than nine years between 1 January 2000 and 11 November 2009 a total of 809 people were reported killed, 846 injured and 895 abducted by the BSF.
